It's getting more and more frequent. His health has deteriorated over the last few years.

Just glad he's ok.

He just collapsed off his chair.

He'll be in for a couple of days at least.

He has COPD so they need to monitor it caused from years and years of smoking. He still smokes even now which is making it worse but I think the way he sees it as, the damage is done now.

..he's in the best place for him, Glenn and I know the smoking thing must be a worry to you but if he's smoked for many years then he'll probably be miserable if he gave it up and that wouldn't be good for his health either...these grandparents are such a worry, I know..they're also often a bit stubborn as well...all you can do is just give him a big hug when you see him.....

They're feeding him up because he's not eaten properly in 2 weeks. He's been put on steroids and they help with his appetite. He's in good spirits.

..no, it's not the same as seeing him..only seeing him is the same as seeing him but it keeps a better connection in between the times that you're together..back in the day, before we were married, my OH worked and lived in another part of the country to me and we would talk on the phone for hours each day but parents could get a bit funny about it because of how much the calls were costing with it being long distance..all I can say Jess is that it was all well worth the wait until we could be together permanently...and the times you do get to see each other are just incredible, eh..?..

..oh, I don't know what to do for Easter yet, I have these coloured cardboard egg things which I fill up every year for the boys and their girlfriends and it's mostly chocolate stuff but I'm thinking that this year I would like to fill them with something different/more useful, it's just thinking what to put in because it has to be quite small things to fit...hmmmmm...

There's a fair amount....we were looking for the deeds to the house as the probate people need them. He and my nan were the tidiest hoarders I've ever come across. They have kept every newspaper clipping, birthday card, Christmas card they have ever got from any of us, including my dad and uncle so it's slow going as its so interesting  And so sad....my grandad was one of those men who always wore a shirt and tie even just to sit in the house...he must have had a hundred ties

Matthew is fine, he knows that great grandad has died, but keeps saying he is going to come back on an aeroplane when he's better...bless. We've finally been able to arrange the funeral though.

...I always aspire to tidiness but never quite fully achieve it and envy people who do, I love looking through old photos and letters etc, I think that why I also get distracted from my tidy campaigns because I have to look at them all...my dad loved ties/cravats as well, I kept lots of them when he died and wear them when I'm feeling a little low..I don't really care what they look like on me.....aww, Matthew.....it's just one of the wonderful things about children that they don't understand these things fully and nor should they...

..yeah, you can kind of see both sides of it because although it's disturbing that a young child could be lost and no one offer help, if a stranger were to approach the child with genuine concern..(and maybe especially more so a male..)...that could be misconstrued in devastating ways...and maybe that's become the primary thought for many people...it's sad also because there are relatively few people who would have sinister intentions but the media often portrays otherwise...

Ammi, did you ever hear of the Liverpool 38? 38!!! people saw James Bulger in distress, one woman even saw him upset and drew her curtains ,one woman stopped them as James was crying only to be told he was their brother and they were right by a police station, one woman was going to take him there but another one would not hold her dog while she took him!! this happened all through his journey,IF someone had just intervened this tragedy may never have happened,so imo,I would intervene whether someone liked it or not, best err on the side of caution tbh.

..I knew there was a lot of people who had witnessed him being taken but I wasn't aware of the Liverpool 38..it's funny because I was thinking about James the other day in a thread about Madeleine McCann and the difference between leaving children unattended for several hours and taking your eyes off them for moments, which is all it takes for an abduction to take place...obviously what happened to James shocked a world and especially parents who knew the same thing could have easily happened to them and their own child...anyway, I think I'm getting off the subject..yes I agree, now I would always help but for the Liverpool 38..?...I don't think that it would have ever occurred to me that 'children' could have been so evil, so I'm not really sure if I would have felt assistance was needed...

There's a lot of things that people don't know about it ammi, when the woman with the dog stopped them she asked if he was allright as he had a bump on his head and was upset, and now I am upset, this always starts me off,but I was just highlighting the importance of stopping and being nosey if you have to,it might save someones life.

Definitely Niamh, his injuries were horrific and the scum still free to roam this earth.I can believe people passed those two kids as that seems to be our society, too busy, too rushed and too scared.

Ammi
24-03-2014, 10:48 AM
..yeah, I don't recall up until then another high profile case of such young people doing something like that and I think the age thing was a huge shock factor for everyone....

..I remember though when my youngest was around 3yrs, he had his first tantrum in a shopping centre...it was really shocking to us because he was such a placid child and hardly ever complained about anything...anyway, there was one of those little stalls that sell sweets..you know the thing..?...and it had these huge gobstoppers, they were all swirled with colours like a rainbow and he wanted one...the stupid thing is that it wouldn't even have fitted into his mouth because they were like tennis balls but maybe he wanted to throw it or kick it or something, which didn't seem like a good idea to me...anyway, he had the hugest of tantrums and kept running off and screaming and 'fighting' us when we tried to calm him...so in the end, I had to literally just 'pull' him through the shopping centre and back to the car and people looked but they said nothing...and even a security guard just walked by and smiled at me but didn't intervene...I was glad they didn't in a way because I was so devastated by what was happening and just wanted to get my son somewhere quieter where I could try to calm him but what if I had been abducting him..?....

Ammi

..yeah, you're absolutely right Kaz, people should never feel afraid to intervene and I was thinking that before James, people would have maybe not thought children capable of what they did or anything at all sinister and maybe that's why they did nothing... but I didn't know that he already showed signs of injury though....

Kazanne
24-03-2014, 10:56 AM
Nothing worse than you child having a tantrum in a shopping centre,if you tell them off you get stared at,I've always wanted to do what that woman does on that advert, get on the floor and have one myself, that would give them something to stare at:hugesmile:

Ammi
24-03-2014, 11:02 AM
..yeah, I think we've all felt like doing that occasionally.....luckily that shopping centre thing was a one off, I think the gobstoppers had some magical spell over him..one of my biggest irritations and something that really annoys me though is when you can see a 'tantrum' building up with a child because they're trying to talk to a parent and are being completely ignored and you can see the frustrations growing in them until it kind of bursts...

Niamh.
24-03-2014, 11:04 AM

It would, America have a whole TV show dedicated to these dilemmas, I think it's called 'what would you do?'
I have to say the account kaz gave had me in tears, and the central London location may have had a part to play in your scenario.
It would have been interesting to compare the same experiment in a few different cities?

I have to say the account kaz gave had me in tears, and the central London location may have had a part to play in your scenario.
It would have been interesting to compare the same experiment in a few different cities?

..I we might have had a recent thread on that programme..?..yeah, I don't know if reactions would be 'regional', that would be interesting to see, living in a village and rural area, I can't imagine anyone to just walk by and not approach the child and help her find her mum but I do also understand a reluctance that some people might feel if they were worried that their actions could be misinterpreted....

I would think the last thing anyone would want to do after their first game of bed-rugby is announce it on facebook, some people are just plain crazy. :umm2: I can't stop cringing.

:joker: Well, nobody can be a perfect match in the music taste department. For example, my bf has high regard for Lady Gaga's bum but isn't a big fan of her music. :fist:
