Knuckles (miniseries)
quite enjoyable
also has Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso, Strictly Come Dancing 2022) in it as one of the baddies, alongside Rory McCann (The Hound in Game of Thrones) as main antagonist ''the buyer''
also Christopher Lloyd as the voice of Pachacamac

some funny and lovely scenes between her character and Knuckles

Finished Season 1 of Severance
I wasn't sure if it was a one off season or if there would be a season 2, big cliffhanger end though and have to wait till January for S2. Really good show though

…yeah it’s excellent…it’s one of those series though that I’ve forgotten so much detail that I’ll have to rewatch just before any new season…

I came late to The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, both of which I've watched this year. Thinking of watching Breaking Bad next. Anyone recommend this, or not?

I watched most of it, some people prefer that to Breaking Bad but I didn't, I did like it but I kept forgetting about it, I will finish it some day  That's probably not a great endorsement
…although I loved both series, I think that on reflection I preferred Better Call Saul…just because…
…Walter’s character became so dislikeable whereas I was rooting for Saul right up until the last inhale and exhale of it all…I also loved so many more of the dynamics of the connections of Saul’s story…

He did and I despised him but I think that's what made the series more compelling than Saul, you need those ones you're rooting against as rooting for and I do love him as a character as in I loved how they turned him slowly from a good, kind and thoughtful man into the monster he became. And how it turned out the high school drop out druggie kid had more heart and was a better person than most of the others in the show

…I didn’t feel that Saul Goodman remained a ‘good guy’ as such…I think he also had those layers that Walter did …it’s just that he somehow held on to who intrinsically was…whereas I don’t think that Walter did so much…he became lost in it all…/the power…

and also
I really liked how they ended it too, they allowed Walt as much redemption as was realistic to give him. There was no real way he could actually redeem himself after everything he'd done but sacrificing himself for Jesse at the end was about as much as he could do, it's like he finally realised what he'd become

breaking bad is a bit like pulp fiction in that it turns traditional feelings on their heads. Dexter does it too

That you root for the bad guys? I definitely wasn't rooting for Walt  Dexter yeah although I did feel like he had to die or be arrested by the end because he wasn't sticking to his code anymore

I was rooting for Walt at various points where i normally wouldn't
I started disliking Walt pretty early on, Jesse did some bad things but it felt like he felt bad about stuff and was forced into doing the most bad things by Walt who always just felt like the main reason he was doing what he was doing was out of pure selfishness and because he liked the power it gave him, he liked the feeling being feared gave him where as Jesse always felt like he did things to protect other people or because he was just manipulated into doing things or was trapped

…like Niamh, I don’t think that I was rooting for Walt from quite early on….hmmmm, I guess that his character wasn’t really so balanced in the beginning, it didn’t show him to be flawed like Jesse for instance…?…so you know that there is nowhere to take his character other than to become more and more flawed and the storyline did that to the point of us losing Walt completely as someone to root for…whereas with Jesse, his world was already flawed/as he was as a character…but rather than him descend more and more, the storyline often saw him compassion/empathy etc because so much room had been left for positive aspects of him to develop…?…so we saw him become less and less flawed as we rooted for him but I just felt less and less for Walt …
i cheered when he took out Gus, i cheered when he used the automatic gun on the gang clubhouse

Only because Jesse was going to be saved though :hee: But I mean is it really rooting for him when he's just taking out other bad guys? I certainly wasn't rooting for him when he was responsible for Jesses g/f dying or when he poisoned his other g/f's son
Oh also, I never understood as well why
Skylar always got so much hate for just reacting like most people would to finding out her husband is a criminal and not who she thought he was

Well Ted was another rat bag so.....
…I think the thing about it is for me that it wasn’t so much rooting for Walt but rooting against others who were equally lost in that world of power and killing and evil etc…I mean, Gus would have been a ‘good guy’ at one time in the same way that Walt was…but they all became lost in that power in a way that Jesse didn’t seem to…so seeing the end to Gus and his harming anyone ever again wasn’t rooting for Walt …it would have been the same feelings with whoever brought that end about…
Niamh.

Exactly ^^
…it’s funny because…
…Jesse didn’t come from feeling the love and support of a family circle like Walt did…and maybe that was a difference because he came to realise the value of other things beyond money and power…he strived for ‘family’, didn’t he….whereas Walt was surrounded by all of that so those things he didn’t have became all important…the money and the power…it’s that ‘grass is greener’ thing…?…reaching for what you haven’t got ….

I think
maybe it could also be because he felt betrayed by his former friends giving up the rights to that successful company they ran and felt like he lost out on the notoriety and money they got and this was his way at a second chance of getting what they had "stolen" from him in his mind, he was definitely very bitter about that

…yeah that’s true…’he could have had and should have had’…and that adds another layer to it meaning so much to him…sadly it had a price and the price involved everything he loved but it was a process, wasn’t it…I’m thinking that if he knew what would be lost from the beginning, he would have turned away from it all…?…but descent is a gradual thing and often people are lost before they even realise that direction is taking place…and the interesting thing was that while Walt already had his riches in his loved ones ….thats what Jesse was striving for, really…and that’s why he didn’t lose himself because he kept people and the value of people so closely in his heart and his wants ….

and
We said Walts character wasn't flawed at the beginning but actually I think his flaws were always there and what led him down a path he never needed to go down. This bring me back to the hate Skylar always got for not appreciating how Walt was "providing" for them etc. He didn't have to do what he did, his ex business partners/friends offered to give him a job and when he refused they even offered to cover the costs of his treatment but he was too proud and bitter to accept their help and instead decided to make and sell drugs

…yeah, he definitely chose to go that way when he didn’t have to…and you’re right, maybe it was connected to his partner and what he felt belonged to him but was taken from him…and feeling helpless in that situation…?…so power became an all important thing as well…there is no doubt that the characters are so very layered and that’s such a part of the excellence of the series…

Yeah, there was a lot of absolutely amazing and complex characters, fantastically written imo. Mike is another one who I loved and although was a technically a bad guy, had a good heart like Jesse. I think the thing for me that separates Mike and Jess from Walt was really that Mike and Jesse seemed to do bad things for other people(Mike for his grand daughter and daughter in law) Jesse for multiple people over the series) where as Walt's reasons always came across as self serving and manipulative

there arent many series that spark discussion the way BB does, and the funny thing, and i think its why the show is so successful, the supporting characters are all well fleshed out and complex in their own right

Quote taken from Rotten Tomatoes -
From is one of the best shows on TV. It's a terrifying puzzle that continuously raises the stakes.
A friend told me about it this time last year, i just told her i'd give the first ep a go and see what happens. Anyway, ended up watching all 20 eps in the space of about 5 days. I was hooked.

Yeah just looked too, you can watch it on Sky Sci-Fi in the UK, so if you have Sky you have the first 2 seasons.
Prime want £2.49 per ep, fck that!! :nono:
…I’ll see if I can get some free NOW TV…/…a trial period…
Wow they really are making this show hard to watch for people in the UK, i've been looking and i think NOW TV only have it on their Irish site, not the UK?

…Band of Brothers was the same, Amazon Prime were originally charging a fee per episode but it has come on free sites since that time…hopefully it’ll be the same for From…I’ll wait…
There are sites out there of course, but i don't really like recommending them just in case of a virus or something. I mean it's a lot worse with sports, TV shows are usually pretty safe, but you'll need a decent ad block regardless. But there's always that risk.
My friend and I have been watching a Japanese horror/drama series called Gannibal, based on the manga of the same name. From the title, you might think it's a series involving cannibalism. And you'd be right. Still, it's a decent show so far.

You have a very good chance at liking From then, as it has Damon Lindelof as the Showrunner if I'm not mistaken, and he was a big part of Lost's success.
And the actor who played Michael is the lead character in From, and imo is a great character in the programme.

…oh, I think that I’ve seen that on Amazon Prime so I might give it a go on your recommendation…
You should. Give it a few episodes as they're only 30 minutes long, and the first season is quite short, but it's the 2nd and 3rd seasons when the show will really blow you away. Best thing I've seen in years.

…I did actually start to watch it…(…the first season…/…I’m not sure if there is only one season on Amazon…)…I wasn’t familiar with the lead actor at all…I was a bit tired, though so I didn’t finish the whole episode as I wasn’t really absorbing it properly…it seemed interesting enough, though…
…quite a bit gory, though…I’m hoping the storyline takes over from the gory parts and they become less once they’ve established what his job is……

It's a bit weird at the start, not berceuse it's actually weird, but in the days of over production, it was made so cheaply and is so character focussed that it's a bit jarring. It does have violence throughout because that's his job, but it definitely becomes more about his family life with his disabled brother, his friends, and his young daughter.
The whole show is on here:

Disney+ now also having its own spanish languaged original (also available in other language dubs)
c-AO_0G2dzU
and soon mid october also the very first Disney+ dutch original series ''Nemesis'' is premiering
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMSjUpX3ZAE
great to see Disney following into Netflix's footsteps for more worldwide original content
Nemesis has a bit of a big name star from my nation too, Lies Visschedijk from the award winning series/film Gooische Vrouwen
Nicky91
29-09-2024, 02:13 PM
also has Peter Blok in Nemesis, alongside Visschedijk, Blok is famous internationally for his role as resistance fighter Van Gein in the war film Zwartboek where he played alongside Carice van Houten
Nemesis, is basically about the dutch criminal underworld, tax fraud, trafficking (basically Disney's own attempt at creating a similar popular hyped series as Netflix has in Undercover)

…this is what I watched yesterday…

That is weird, but it's not the show I'm on about. Although a movie was made about 20 years ago, which the series was based off, the movie isn't called Mr. Inbetween. That link I provided a few posts up has all 3 series if you want to watch it.

Ayla y Los Mirores is good fun
a 14 yr old girl with amnesia ending up in a foster home called ''the forest'' and joining a dance group called The Mirrors (although at first reluctantly and the group blackmailed by the foster home leaders)
her aunt meanwhile having her inheritance money (because her dad died in a boat accident, and they found her hat also at the boat, so they thought she was also killed) was a funny scene at a country golf club, her aunt and a friend having a feast meal at the restaurant, but not paying for it and just running away when the waiter wasn't looking :fan:
I watched it years ago, I can only barely remember it, is it by Stephen King or did I dream that?
…no you didn’t dream that, it’s a Stephen King trilogy and there are three seasons…(…strangely enough……)…I don’t know if its a different main storyline for each season but with some storyline threads running through also…I suspect that’s what it might be but I don’t want to risk any spoilers by looking…
…it has vibes for me of Happy Valley with it being personal for the main character and him being taunted by the first season killer…
…I just finished binging the first season of Mr Mercedes….I think the one criticism that I would have of it is that the season could have been shorter…/…or maybe the episodes could have been shorter…it was a great watch though, so riveting and it’s left a cliffhanger for the next season…

They end the show properly. The actor who plays Boyd did say he this about it though :
When “From” came to you, did you have any concerns about how it would play out, especially after “Lost” was accused of not having an endgame? Did you ask if there would be answers?
I did. Look, we have all been traumatized a little bit by “Lost.” The people who were in it, the fans, the creators – there’s was a bit of talk about, “You didn’t answer the questions!” So when I was talking to them for “From,” I was like, “Are we going to go through this again?” And they were like, “No. We have a story to tell. We’re going to do it in 10 episode bursts. And this is the first season, this is what you’ll find out in the next season, and here’s how it’s going to go.” It was more than they ever gave us with “Lost.” So they have a real plan. And it’s shorter seasons, so you can tell the story and answer questions more quickly.

Give Ludwig a try on catchup if you haven't been watching it... ep 1 is a bit naff cos of the plot setup but the rest are quite good
Coma -- tried ep 1 but gave up through ep 2 cos of the silliness of him not admitting it up front (as anyone normal would have done)
Sherwood was OK but not scintillating
Tried Joan but decided not to bother after ep 1

am surprised how much i liked it, never really watch dutch language series/films, apart from Undercover that is
but its quite nice
so what it is about
all about tax fraud by high profile criminals, druglords, dictators with offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands, Monaco, Luxembourg, through illegal gambling sites
strong acting performance by Lies Visschedijk too
major spoiler (ending of ep1)
some shady man impersonating as a plumber at first was scouting at Sylvia (Lies Visschedijk) her home, whom was allowed in by her son when he went to see some friends
and later in the evening, that same man presumably broke into her home, Sylvia went silently to her son's bedroom, and they called the emergency number to report the break-in
Glad you enjoyed Ammi!

For people that enjoy From.
Have you watched Teacup?
It stars Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah from Dexter, plus she was also in Chuck) and to copy Wikipedia's description of the Show.
"On an isolated branch in Georgia, several people are forced together to face a mysterious threat."
I wasn't in love with it at first, and it's not as good as From imo.
But give it a few episodes and I think that you guys will really grow to like it.
And on a side note, Yvonne Strahovski still looks really good, better looking than most of Hollywood's younger stars imo.
And tbf to her, she is one of the better performers in the programme I feel.

…I’m watching From now…thank you both for the recommendation……I’m only two and a bit episodes into the first season but it really grips you with its mystery from the beginning, doesn’t it…I can probably watch the second season as well after this but ughhhhhh, it’s going to end in a cliffhanger then, isn’t it…and that’s why I try to/prefer to watch series that are complete and over and have reached their conclusion…I don’t know whether to stop now before it gets a full grip and leads to complete frustration……

You'll watch it anyway [emoji23]
……ok then Miss Smartypants…as if I could stop if I wanted to and that’s only after two episodes…

Its so addictive, I just hope they end it satisfactorily (unlike Lost)

…yeah, I also hope that it isn’t axed before it reaches a proper ending…and that it’s not too many season because I’m not a real time watching girl….I NEED to know the outcomes of these mysteries…
…that guy, the Sheriff guy…?…wasn’t he also in Lost, actually…?…

…I don’t know what the deal with Sara Myers is but she’s pretty creepy…it felt as though her killing that guy was more that she was a psychopath herself as a side story…and not that she was being ‘controlled’ by the monsters…

…oh you have such a treat ahead of you, GH…the first season is so, so good……
Started watching the live action One Piece adaptation. I read a few of the manga volumes back when I was in school and watched some of the anime here and there, but essentially I'm still a newbie to the whole thing. It's been pretty fun thus far. A friend thought it'd be a good fit because I like pirate fiction and all...

I'm now half way through ,and wow....I've never hated a character so much in that JP since I watched Bad Girls , where that prison officer Fenner was a total rotten monster. I keep getting annoyed now when the sister's fail at killing JP :joker::fist:. He's such a evil smug twat ,who deserved his outcome.

…I didn’t actually watch Bad Girls but yeah, JP is a pretty unredeemable villain character…I think that’s such a huge part of that type of story, isn’t it…that we invest so much in the ‘wrong’ us’ as well…I’m glad that you’re enjoying it…… it’s an excellent series…

So who do you think
The other people trapped in the Town are? If Tabitha and Jade are reincarnations of the parents who tried to save their children originally (and also previously Miranda and Christopher) and the monsters are the parents who killed the children? (obviously some are just collateral damage like Jim, just being stuck there because he was married to Tabitha etc)

it all becomes confusing, for example, the woman effectively killed her new born child by "accident" in the real world, was that therefore not an accident? Was that why they ended up back in the town. Is the old guy that appeared at the end of the episode connected to the boy in the white suit.
Of all the things that they did in the town, why was digging the hole the "biggest" mistake  I could go on all day

I've started watching Ally McBeal on Channel 4 from the beginning.
I haven't seen it since it was actually on TV about 25 years ago back when I would watch it late at night with Frasier and other American shows on C4 on my little square TV in my bedroom when I was in primary school. :joker:
It's really great - fantastic cast, very funny and very nostalgic (it's so 90's). Cracking soundtrack too.

…I know, I thought it would be your type of thing with your love of old style Hollywood because that’s exactly the vibe of Jean Smart’s character…she’s smart and funny and oh so glamorous …the relationship between the ‘old hack’ and the young comedy writer forced on her……is so good also…it’s nothing new, I guess…but it’s so well done and when something is good, it’s good …I think it’s Amazon Prime that I’m watching it on…either that or Netflix but I’m thinking Prime is the way to go…you’ll honestly love it, I feel…

…I’ve just started an Australian series called Bay of Fires……it’s a little slow because it’s establishing characters but it also feels as though it has potential to be very good…I find Australian productions have a great blend of black comedy and drama and can keep those thrills going also…it’s about a city life successful business woman who finds her life under threat so has to ‘go into hiding’ with her two children…leaving everyone and everything behind and having no contact with her past etc…and the remote place she ends up in is probably just as bizarre as any past experience……anyway, I think it’s shaping up t9 be very good…

I'm watching this one, slowly but I will finish it. The lead actor plays one of the main characters in Fear the Walking Dead, he's why i started watching it.
…I binge watched No Good Deed on Netflix yesterday…I didn’t mean to binge it all so quickly but it was such a good watch, I liked it a lot…it was a bit of so many things…a dark comedy is what it’s billed as but it also has a murder/mystery element to it as well and lots of good relationship dynamics …a solid cast also with Lisa Kudrow and Luke Wilson…yeah, really liked it very much indeed……
