Madonna accepts damages over photos

Madonna has accepted substantial undisclosed damages for privacy and infringement of copyright over the Mail on Sunday’s publication of “purloined” photos of her wedding to Guy Ritchie.

The singer, who has just completed her Sticky & Sweet world tour, was not at London’s High Court for the settlement of her action against Associated Newspapers.

Her solicitor, John Kelly, told Mr Justice Peter Smith that she would be donating the damages to her Raising Malawi charity.

Mr Kelly said that the star went to great pains to ensure that the December 2000 wedding was wholly private.

But, in 2003, an interior designer, who was working on her home in Beverly Hills, surreptitiously copied at least 27 photos from the wedding album and provided them to Bonnie Robinson who, in June 2008, offered to sell them to the Mail on Sunday.

Mr Kelly said that the newspaper did not purchase them at that time but waited until October 2008, when Madonna had announced that she was divorcing and there was huge media interest about her marriage, to purchase the purloined photos.

Just three days after she had announced her divorce – and without any warning to Madonna – it published 10 of the photos.

Associated Newspapers’ solicitor, Niri Shan, said that it accepted that it was wrong to act in this way and offered its sincere apologies to Madonna and her family for invading her privacy and infringing her copyright.

Madonna leads big chart debut week

Seven new albums crashed the top 10 this week in Canada, topped by Madonna at No. 1.

Her double-disc hits collection, "Celebration," came in on top with 17,000 in sales, according to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

Five more premieres crowded the second to sixth slots: Barbra Streisand's "Love Is the Answer" (13,000) landed at No. 2, Paramore's "Brand New Eyes" (12,000) at No. 3, Alice in Chains' "Black Gives Away to Blue" at No. 4, Mariah Carey's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" at No. 5, and the French compilation "Generation Passe-Partout" at No. 6.

The slew of debuts sent Three Days Grace's "Life Starts Now" down five positions to No. 7, and Pearl Jam's "Backspacer" sank from No. 1 to No. 8.

The last top 10 entry of the week went to Jann Arden's "Free" at No. 9, while the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" went from No. 5 to No. 10.

In the U.S., Barbra Streisand entered in first, followed by Paramore in second, Mariah Carey in third, Breaking Benjamin's "Dear Agony" in fourth, and Alice in Chains in fifth.

Celebration becomes Madonna's 18th US Top 10 album

In a Top 10 almost completely taken over by debuts, Madonna's greatest hits album Celebration lands at #7, with sales of 72,159 copies, making it her 18th album to reach the Top 10 of the US album charts.
While this could seem as a disappointment, considering it's the first time ever a Madonna release sells less in the US than in the UK, let's look at a few things:

The #7 peak matches that of GHV2 from almost 8 years ago, when Madonna was still riding high one of her most successful periods and sold 150,000 in a week with it, even though it featured no new songs. Now, Celebration covers almost the complete The Immaculate Collection (which still remains one of the best selling female albums) and the majority of GHV2. Combine that with all of Madonna's singles being available on iTunes since 2005, there isn't much incentive for the public to buy a Madonna compilation, especially in a country where traditionally greatest hits albums don't do as well as in the UK.
The single Celebration got next to no airplay in the US (unlike in most parts of the world) and Madonna's promo was minimal in US media and she did not do any live performances.

To put things in perspective even better, let's make a one-off comparison with other artists, who happened to debut at the same week on the chart, making it a "diva week":

With sales just above 180,000 copies, her new album featuring covers of jazz standards, her first in 4 years, singer-actress-director Barbra Streisand tops the chart for an unbelievable 9th time in her career, extending the lead among female artists (Madonna remains at second place with 7 #1 albums) and becomes the only female artist to have a #1 album in five different decades. Barbra has been long out of the single/video game and her promotion was more traditional, including an interview and a live performance at the Oprah Winfrey Show. Her previous album 'Guilty Pleasures' in 2005 opened with 101,000 copies and was the sequel to her best selling album ever, 1980's 'Guilty', which famously features megahit 'Woman In Love'.

Mariah Carey is the other big name female artist to enter the chart disweek, with sales just below 168,000 copies, she debuts at #3. Unlike Madonna and Barbra, Mariah got plenty of airplay with her single "Obsessed", it eventually reached the top 10 and gathered 85 million audience impressions at radio, a number Madonna only reached once in the 2000s, with the Music single. Mariah also appeared and performed at the Oprah show, along with The View and Today Show, along with small-venue perormances in Las Vegas. She followed up her previous album 'E=MC2' in a mere 17 months (which came out 2 weeks before Hard Candy) that yielded a #1 hit 'Touch My Body' (which sold half of 4 Minutes' total) and sold above 460,000 copies in its first week, with a total above 1.3 million.

As a reminder, Hard Candy opened with sales above 280,000 copies, the single 4 Minutes got around 60 million audience impressions, sold 2.5 million digital downloads and the album itself ended up with 725,000 copies in the US.

The point we're trying to prove is, judging by the sales numbers of these female stars, it's safe to say the CD sales era is over and radio itself is not in control of high sales now. We'd like to reassure worried Madonna fans that she's still doing fine in a country that keeps abandoning old artists and is always looking for a new fad and Mariah's numbers show investing in album promo does not pay off in 2009, which explains why Madonna has been focusing on touring now. None of these new CDs debuted will be coming close to a million copies when all is said and done, most likely not even matching the total of Hard Candy, which was only aided by one hit single, only one tv interview and no live performances whatsoever and erroneously got labeled as a 'flop' by fans. Now it's clear it was not out of the line from the rest of the industry.

When her next album drops (possibly in a year, or later), Madonna will be lucky to debut with 100,000 copies and her total won't even reach 500,000 in the US, regardless of the collaborators and genre she explores next time around, so this is no longer a popularity contest and Madonna is smart to put her efforts where it all matters, touring.

And as a sidenote, currently Madonna's Celebration in its 3rd week and Barbra Streisand's 'Love Is The Answer' in its 2nd week are battling to reach the top spot of the UK charts this coming Sunday, while Mariah's album was delayed till November there...

To close this off, let's look at the bigger picture: No 2009-released album is aiming to sell 2 million copies in the US and the best selling artist of America in 2009 is going to be the late Michael Jackson, who's already leading the year-to-date sales list with his 'Number Ones' compilation that moved more than 1.7 million this year alone.
Worldwide, U2's 'No Line In The Horizon' is the only 2009-release that reached Hard Candy's worldwide total of 3.5 million and no CD is eyeing to reach 5 million worldwide sales in the last year of the decade.

Keep it going

Madonn and Lady Gaga continued their play catfight from "Saturday Night Live" well into Sunday. After squaring off in an SNL skit, they got into a one-on-one dance-off at SoHo hot spot Submercer at a Sunday night birthday party for Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary.

"(Deejay) Jus Ske was joking around and alternating their songs Holiday and Poker Face, and then they both started going at it," says an onlooker. "Madonna seemed to be the winner. People were going wild."

Also attending were Lenny Kravitz and Andy Samberg.

''Celebration'' is chart-resistant in Germany

The Celebration CD rules the German Album Chart for a second week in a row.

After entering straight to #1 last week the new collection holds the top spot for a second week - a remarkable achievement considering that "Celebration" dropped to #2 in countries such as Italy and the UK where Madonna is usually a chart topper.

"Celebration" was released digitally and physically in Germany on September 18 and entered the Album Chart straight to number one on October 2.

The Sticky and Sweet Tour premieres on EPIX

Madonna fans in the United States will finally have their chance to see the "Sticky & Sweet Tour" on television. With a press release issued a few hours ago, EPIX have announced that they will debut the Live in Buenos Aires concert special across all their platforms - television, video-on-demand and the internet.

EPIX is a joint venture between Viacom, Paramount Pictures, MGM. and Lionsgate. Conceived as a next-generation multiplatform premium entertainment channel, video-on-demand and online service launching with Verizon FiOS and other distribution partners in October 2009, accessing more than 15,000 motion pictures spanning the vast libraries of the partner studios.

"An unstoppable force and the ultimate entertainer, Madonna gives an amazing performance," EPIX president Mark Greenberg said about their Madonna deal. "She's in a category of her own."

EPIX also expressly mentions that they will world premiere the Sticky & Sweet show on television, although they confirm that the broadcast was filmed in Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium, which is likely to be the one we saw already in a number of countries around the world.

So far, the concert premiere on SKY in the UK in an almost complete edit featuring the entire set list. A similar version aired on HBO Eastern Europe and a reduced one-hour version with highlights from the show did broadcast in some European countries. A longer version - with no additional song but a longer intro and the full "request song" moment was shown in South America by CityVibe.

A DVD from the tour is also expected from Warner Music later this year.

More remixes coming in, no Summer Tour for 2010

Guy Oseary was quite talkative again yesterday on his Twitter page, and here's a couple of tidbits you will certainly be interested to hear about..,

Xavier69 tells guy he loves "Celebration" album version... "Working on a few more remixes.. stay tuned" is what Guy tells him.

Materiallboy asks him about a new tour next year?
" I don't see a new tour next year.. definitely not summertime..." Guy says.
Later on, her confirms that "as I've promised... we will definitely go to Australia next tour."

There are no plans for Madonna to do SNL or any other TV as of now, (answering to Duzett who told him that Madonna was great with Gaga on the show last Saturday and asked if she was going to be on SNL again).

Then Guy says goodnight to the Twitterers saying "thanks again to all of you for helping Greatest Hits sell 2 million albums in just 2 weeks.."

That sucks. Dont want any more Celebration remixes now (No point now) want M on tour again and no TV for her for now

Madonna 'to buy Jesus $2.7m apartment'

Madonna has reportedly decided to buy a $2.7 million (£1.7m) apartment in New York for her boyfriend Jesus Luz.

The 'Celebration' singer allegedly wants to purchase a property near her own Upper East Side townhouse as an alternative to Luz moving in with her family.

"Madonna has her agent searching for the perfect pad for Jesus in her new neighbourhood. She's told them to spend no more than £1.7 million and the pad has to be within walking distance of her townhouse," a source told The Sun.

"She is financing everything, but Jesus will own it once it's bought. She wasn't kidding when she told him he'll never have to worry about money from now on."

According to the report, Luz has also been added to the payroll of Madonna's company and has secured a number of modelling contracts with Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs through her.

Madonna reportedly upset her lover recently when she claimed that she would rather "get run over by a train" than marry again.

Todo Sobre Madonna — Is Her Madgesty Eyeing an Almodóvar Role?

http://images.nymag.com/images/2/daily/2009/10/20091012_penelope_250x375.jpg

Paper magazine threw a party in honor of Penélope Cruz’s new Pedro Almodóvar film, Broken Embraces, at the newly opened Casa Lever on Saturday, and Madonna made a surprise appearance. Her Madgesty sat in the center of the room, of course, directly between Cruz and Almodóvar, and made small talk — babies? Beauty? Latin studmuffins? We’ll never know — with Cruz, and she flirted with Almodóvar. “I must confess, I introduced myself to one of her friends’ friends," said Paper’s Mickey Boardman, who co-threw the soirée. "It’s my birthday, so I was joking that I wanted Madonna to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me. When everyone was singing, everyone I had said that to was like, ‘She sang the whole time!’” So how did he get her to come and sing him the birthday song? "She’s a big fan of Pedro’s. One thing I’ve learned — actresses who want to work with him love having an opportunity to have dinner with him."

As a party reporter in the presence of perhaps the most famous woman in the world besides Princess Leia, we had to at least try to talk to her. So when the right moment arose, we shyly said, “Excuse me, Madonna,” on behalf of Intel. There was a real moment where she pretended that this wasn’t happening, but finally she shook our hand — at which point we noticed she was wearing fingerless gloves — and we blurted out that that was very cool. “Thank you,” she said, and she returned to her dessert, which she did seem to be eating.

It was a little moment, an innocent one involving a tiny web journalist and a tiny international superstar, but it caused quite a ruckus. Some person purporting to be Madonna's handler (it was not Liz Rosenberg, whom we love, so we didn't bother to remember his name) immediately swooped in and called us a "liar" and said we "disrespected" him. Even dropping the all-important words "Daily Intel" had no effect, because he said, "I don't have a boss, like you. I own my own company." [Eds: We are hardly Vilensky's bosses. He's more like our affiliate party pixie.] Truthfully, we had tuned out after about nine seconds because we had just touched Madonna. Not even Jesus — the Biblical or Brazilian one — could have distracted us at that moment. Meanwhile, Boardman’s speculation that she may want an in with Almodóvar, lauded Spanish auteur, may be correct: We hear she sat through the screening of his new film the next night.

Madonna shoes offered to Gypsy charity in Romania

Madonna is putting her shoes where her mouth is.

Madonna's signed Christian Dior shoes. The Queen of Pop has offered one of her favorite pairs of Christian Dior shoes to a charity supporting Gypsy child education. Organizers said Tuesday the skyscraper gold heels, which are autographed by Madonna, will be sold at the Ovidiu Rom annual ball later this month.

Madonna drew international attention by saying during an August concert in Bucharest on her Sticky & Sweet tour that widespread discrimination against East Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma, should end.
Thousands of fans responded by booing her.

"Madonna's very mild comment regarding equality shone a spotlight on a common European attitude toward Gypsies," Leslie Hawke, president of Ovidiu Rom, told The Associated Press. "We're thrilled to have her donation because she is such an icon of innovation and vigor and 'can do' spirit."

Hawke's son, actor Ethan Hawke, will attend the ball and speak to guests.
Guests at the ball will make donations to win raffle tickets for the auction of donated prizes. This year's items also will include a gold chain provided by actress Vanessa Redgrave.

Eminem reportedly snubbed Madonna's offer to work together on new material.

The 36-year-old rapper turned down the opportunity to collaborate with Madonna after the Celebration star approached him about a possible team-up.

Madonna, 51, told Rolling Stone: "I wanted to work with Eminem. I don't think he wanted to work with me. Maybe he's shy."

Nelly Furtado recently revealed that she also wants to record a track with Eminem.

Stubbon Eminem he is. I like the idea of Nelly Furtado working with Madonna but I would much rather Lady Gaga did.

• Madonna: “I see myself in Lady Gaga”

“I see myself in Lady Gaga. When I saw her, she didnt have a lot of money for her production. She’s got holes in her fishnets, and there’s mistakes everywhere. It was kind of a mess, but I can see that she has that it factor. It’s nice to see that at a raw stage.”

In someways she is. Found fame in New York (Not sure about that). Released 5 tracks form her first album. I wonder what will be her encore for the Like A Virgin era for her next album?

I would love them to sing a song together particuly as a single.

Its not her personality I have a problem with. I just dont like her music anymore. She tries too hard to follow the trend, instead being herself. But she use to be one of my favorites by far.

Exclusive: A Look Into Madonna's Cauldron

With the release of the Celebration album and single and the coming release of the Sticky and Sweet tour on dvd it would seem logic for any artist to take a pause and enjoy the success but that doesn't happen to Madonna, who is working on more releases for her fans to enjoy.
First of all there's Revolver, the second new track on her greatest hits album that, as previously reported by MadonnaTribe a while back, will be the second single release off the compilation. The news is that lots of remixers have been contacted to remix the song and among them we find Tracy Young, David Guetta and Paul Van Dyke.

And Guetta will not only give his own treatment to the second single, because he's also working on a remix for Celebration together with Akon.

But for die hard fans the most exciting news regarding her music is that for Christmas we'll also get brand new house remixes of two of her biggest classics: Holiday and Into The Groove!

Meanwhile Madonna will also be busy with another fashion campaign. She will team up again with photographer Steven Klein next month for the new Dolce & Gabbana campaign, but the cool thing is that this time she will model not for the women's collection but for the men's! We are sure Madonna and Klein will come up with some great ideas for this one!

That's it for now and stay tuned to MadonnaTribe.com, the home of Madonna fans that is your number one source for Madonna news!

This story just makes me laugh. Madonna sure is funny!

NYC neighbor sues Madonna over loud music

One of Madonna’s New York neighbors says the superstar’s loud music and frequent dance sessions are causing a commotion.

Karen George, of Manhattan, lives above Madonna in a building on Central Park.

She said in a lawsuit filed Friday against the building’s co-op board that the Material Girl is using her apartment as a rehearsal studio, forcing neighbors to endure “blaring music, stomping and shaking walls,” for up to three hours each day.

George complained about “unreasonably high-decibel, amplified music” and vibrations pouring through walls, ceilings and radiators.

The building’s board says it has already threatened to evict Madonna.

Madonna’s representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Madonna, U2, AC/DC lead Touring Awards finalists
Madonna, U2 and AC/DC are among the finalists for the 2009 Billboard Touring Awards, which are based on global box-office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from October 1, 2008, through September 30, 2009.

The awards will be presented at a November 5 reception in New York.
The finalists for the Top Tour and Top Draw awards, which acknowledge the top-grossing and top-ticket-selling tours, respectively, are the same three global treks: U2's 360 tour, Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour, and AC/DC's Black Ice tour.

The Top Package award goes to the top-grossing tour with three or more artists on the bill. Finalists include five-time winner Kenny Chesney for his Sun City Carnival tour with Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, Sugarland and Montgomery Gentry on the bill; the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 with Jordin Sparks, Honor Society and Wonder Girls; and Nickelback for their Dark Horse tour, with Hinder, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel on board.

The Breakthrough Award goes to the top-grossing artist in their first decade as a national headlining act. Four artists enjoyed touring breakthroughs this year: Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Kings of Leon, and Il Divo. Dane Cook, Robin Williams, and French & Saunders are finalists for the Top Comedy Tour.

Finalists for the Top Boxscore award, which goes to the top-grossing single engagement for the time period, are U2 at Croke Park in Dublin, U2 at Stade de France in Paris, and the Oxegen fest at Punchestown Racecourse in Naas, Ireland. (source: Reuters)

MADONNA hates hearing her old songs.

Legendary tracks such as Holiday and Like A Virgin follow her around wherever she goes.

But the Queen of Pop admitted that she has to tell staff in shops and restaurants to switch them off.

"Not to toot my own horn but they always play my old stuff when I'm in a shop or wherever," she said.

"They are usually songs I am really sick of though and I have to say 'Oh please, turn this off.'

"For some reason people think that when you go to a restaurant or you are going shopping that you want to hear one of your own songs.

"It's usually Like a Virgin - and that is the one I don't want to hear."

Meanwhile Macca fans were up in arms after Madge appeared to suggest his shows were boring.

"People have told me, 'You could just go out there and play guitar and sing your songs like Paul McCartney,' but I'd be too bored," she told Rolling Stone magazine.

"Most of the joy of the shows is the magic of creating them -- theatre. I'm a perfectionist. I like hard work. I like to sweat."

Ever since she did the Drownded World Tour she has insisted she hates Like A Virgin and Holiday. She said in the Rolling Stones that Into The Groove is a 'retarded' song to sing. I guess hearing them songs so long can make you bored of them.

Madonna not the face of Dolce and Gabbana

from ELLE UK:

Rumours have been swirling all day that Madonna is set to be the next face of Dolce and Gabbana’s menswear line, but ELLE can put an end to speculation and tell you that it’s sadly not true.

While the Queen of pop’s boyfriend, model Jesus Luz, is this season’s face of the Italian brand, and the design duo has created costumes for the star on several occasions, it seems that Madonna is content with her roll as muse rather than model. For now at least…

22 October - Madonna to lay school's foundation stone in Malawi

Pop star Madonna will visit Malawi on Sunday to lay the foundation stone of a multi-million dollar girls' school she is building, her charity Raising Malawi told Reuters.

The singer, who has adopted two children from the southern African country, is due to arrive on Sunday and attend a brick-laying ceremony in Lilongwe on Monday. The school is expected to cost about $15 million.

"She plans to meet the President Bingu wa Mutharika and together lay a foundation stone for her multi-million dollar girls school," a staffer at the charity, who declined to be named, said on Thursday.

An AIDS epidemic has left over a million children orphaned in the impoverished country of 13 million.

Malawi's government came under fire after Madonna adopted a 13-month-old boy, David Banda, in 2006, with critics accusing it of giving her special treatment by skirting laws that ban non-residents from adopting children.

In June this year, Malawi's Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling made in April which said Madonna could not adopt a four-year girl -- Mercy James -- because the singer was not a resident of the country.

Madonna last year divorced British film director Guy Ritchie, with whom she has a son Rocco. She also has a daughter Lourdes from her relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon. (source: Reuters)

Rumors about Madonna’s new movie “W.E.”

The singer Madonna is receiving a helping hand from ex-husband Guy Ritchie in casting an odd-sounding film about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson…

Madonna has written the movie with Alek Keshishian, who directed the documentary Madonna: Truth Or Dare in 1991.

W.E. is described as a romantic comedy about a woman called Wally Winthrop.

The synopsis of W.E. states that Wally was ‘named for her grandmother’s passion’ and there are fantasy and flashback scenes involving Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson who, after the Abdication, were styled the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

There’s a lot of dialogue between the Duke and Duchess, but my guess is that the screenplay will be re-written before shooting commences next year. I’m presuming W.E. stands for Wallis and Edward.

Other segments of the film have Wally Winthrop marrying a pediatrician. She then attends an event featuring items that belonged to the Duchess of Windsor where she finds herself falling for a security guard.

Madonna has several meetings planned this week and next with various actors and actresses. She needs to cast a star name to help boost the budget. In this climate, Madonna’s name alone won’t guarantee a picture will be financed.

Guess what she was doing in London this week...

25 October - Something to remember: I'm too busy surviving

In 2009, no Madonna fan is surprised when Madonna is reported to be spending some studio-quality time with hip hop producers. That was not the case 15 years ago, when exactly on this day, on October 25th, 1994 Madonna released her seventh studio album Bedtime Stories, helmed by Babyface, Dallas Austin Dave Hall & Nellee Hooper. Even though her earlierst records with Warner were also collaborations with black producers who drew inspiration from R&B, 1994 was the first time when Madonna jumped on the hottest urban sounds of America. Madonna carefully picked the hip hop producers whose work she most admired. They were already famous for giving chart topping hits to TLC, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton & Mary J. Blige. Dallas Austin at the time produced the album 'Pendulum Vibe' for his R&B songstress protege Joi that caught Madonna's ears as well. Nellee Hooper, on the other hand, got Madonna's attention for producing the breakthrough album of Icelandic superstar Björk 'Debut' that got a lot of critical acclaim. The direct result in Madonna's canon of the latter is the title track Bedtime Story that combines ethereal singing with lush electronic production in a non-conventional melody.

Thankfully, the rest of the album retains Madonna's signature catchy pop melodies, juxtaposing them with hard hip hop/new jack swing beats (even including a rap by then-up and coming Maverick artist Me'Shell NdegéOcello in I'd Rather Be Your Lover) and smooth R&B grooves, just like how Madonna wanted it, along with an extensive usage of old school and more recent urban samples. Lyrically the album is a combination of some of Madonna's sweetest and most vulnerable love songs ever, such as Forbidden Love, Love Tried To Welcome Me, Sanctuary & Take A Bow (Inside Of Me fits here as well even though Madonna explicitly stated it is about her mother), and her reaction to the controversy that surrounded her in the Erotica era. The opening track Survival, is the first in a long list of Madonna songs that express the now-signature Madonna theme of never stopping and always doing her thing. More explicit on this subject is the minimalistic Human Nature, with lyrics like "Did I stay too long? Oops, I didn't know I couldn't speak my mind!". It's also the first time when Madonna started hinting back at old lyrics in new songs, combining that with actual poetry by Proust, Shakespeare, Walt Whitman and George Herbert.

While the album also brought a new look for Madonna as a platinum blonde Jean Harlow-esque mature but sexual woman which character fully blossomed in the Secret video, Madonna actually wanted to put the focus on the music and released the album without major promotion. Other than a couple of tv and magazine interviews, she only gave one live performance in US, UK, Germany and Italy each, all in early 1995. Which is probably why the album did not get a stellar start on the charts (stuck behind 'Murder Was The Case' soundtrack by Snoop Dogg and 'II' by Boyz II Men in the US, Bon Jovi's 'Cross Road' in the UK) and quickly started falling down, even though Secret was a hit in most countries. The downward trend was halted with the release of second single Take A Bow that stabilized sales and eventually helped Bedtime Stories to pass the sales of Erotica in the US and made it a success in Canada and Japan as well. In Europe, however, none of the singles managed to hit big and Bedtime Stories remains one of the very few eras where Madonna could not score a worldwide megahit. It still sold a respectable 6 million copies worldwide.

Unfortunately the album is also remembered for being the first Madonna album marred with commercially questionable singles choices and missed opportunities. After the massive radio success of Take A Bow, Madonna followed with the experimental Bedtime Story and the defensive Human Nature (with staggered release dates depending on territories), which decision resulted in ending Madonna's record of 32 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits.On one hand these decisions showed Madonna's more artistic side that produced two fan favourite videos, but it still doesn't change the fact that one of Madonna's most commercial albums could not shine on the charts even though practically all the rest of the songs could have been good single choices, especially the lone dance track of the album, the bouncy Don't Stop that recalls then-hot girl group SWV, and the steamy Forbidden Love which is quite alike to the other famous 90s all girl formation TLC's just as sexy 'Red Light Special', that charted at #2 just after Take A Bow's long reign at the top. Forbidden Love fortunately got more attention on the ballad compilation Something To Remember released a year and two weeks after Bedtime Stories, and 10 years after that on Confessions On A Dance Floor it became the only songtitle in Madonna's catalog that got reused, coincidentally also as track #7 like on Bedtime Stories.

Bedtime Stories is also the first, and so far only album that did not get to shine on a tour. Madonna intended to tour the record but because the Evita movie project came along, such plans got cancelled. Since then unfortunately only two songs got performed live on tour, Secret & Human Nature, plus the Re-Invention Tour showcased a video interlude set to Bedtime Story.

Fun fact: Madonna thanks Erotica producer Shep Pettibone in the booklet "for being understanding", possibly referring to abandoning several songs they collaborated on before Madonna found her R&B direction. Madonna reused bits and pieces of Shep's ideas in Secret, I'd Rather Be Your Lover & Inside Of Me that later on resulted him getting co-writing credit for those songs. A Pettibone collaboration Love Won't Wait was later given to Gary Barlow who took it to #1 in the UK, and fans got Madonna's own version as well when it leaked online earlier this decade. Also, more outtakes ended up in fans' hands: the 2003 remix EP Remixed & Revisited contains the dancy Your Honesty, the 1997 rainforest benefit Carnival! houses the minimalistic funk of Freedom and the very sexual Let Down Your Guard backs Secret on European editions of the single.

The 1994 album remains one of Madonna's most divisive albums among her fanbase, some say it's one of her least important records in her discography and it was just an attempt for her to stay hip, others think it's a catchy album with an amazingly smooth flow and its lyrics reveal a lot about Madonna than you'd think at a first glance.

Madonna arrives in Malawi to launch girls school
Madonna arrived in Malawi Sunday to visit the girls school she is building in the impoverished country where she adopted two children, an official for the star's charity said.

The official who could not be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter said Madonna arrived at about 2:30 p.m. (1230 GMT; 8:30 a.m. EDT) on Ethiopian Airlines.
The 51-year-old celebrity was accompanied by her four children - Lourdes, 13, Rocco, 9, as well as her two adopted children. Madonna adopted the Malawian-born Mercy, 3, this year and David, 4, in 2008.

The official said Madonna would take part in a groundbreaking ceremony for the school on Monday.

Madonna will also meet with President Bingu wa Mutharika and visit some of the orphanages her charity supports.

Madonna to attend Raising Malawi Academy for Girls ceremony

Madonna posted this blog entry on raisingmalawi.org yesterday:

"My family and I are on our way to Malawi to attend the ground breaking ceremony for Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. The ceremony will take place on Monday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. on the future site of the Academy.

Our vision for the school is to empower girls to become Malawi's future leaders. Our goal is to teach them to challenge themselves, serve their local communities and develop their country. We created this vision in partnership with the local Malawian Ministry of Education, and other educational experts from Malawi, Sub-Sharan African and elsewhere around the world.

We are developing and using innovative educational approaches, cutting-edge architectural design methods, and other modern technologies, which we hope, will become a replicable model for girls secondary school education.

Research proves that young girls throughout the developing world are often left without opportunities to receive a comprehensive education and the benefits that education can provide.

It’s an honor for me to be able to help as many of these girls as I can achieve their dreams.

I’m also incredibly proud of all the projects Raising Malawi is involved in and I look forward to visiting a number of them during my visit."

WMT Gives Back to the fans ''Celebration'' Thailand Fan Version

It was exactly one month ago that Thailand had it's biggest Madonna "Celebration" in the Asian Region! An overwhelming two thousand fans swarmed Thailand's biggest shopping district at Siam Parc Paragon celebrating the Queen of Pop's 26 years in the entertainment industry.

Today, as a gift to the Madonna Fans in Thailand, Warner Music Thailand released the official Thailand Fan Version music video of Celebration.

The entire video shoot was filmed outdoors in the middle of main event, which explains for its quality. The video will also be serviced to MTV Thailand, Channel V Thailand, Local Shopping Malls, and the BTS Skytrain.

Warner Music Thailand has all reassured to the fans that the video will definitely be delivered to the Queen of Pop herself! Even though the quality of the video may not be up to par with the International Fan Version (filmed in a studio) the video is sure to excite fans in Thailand and many across the world.

Oakenfold on 'role model' Madonna

Madonna has been described as "a great role model" by DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Oakenfold has worked with the Queen of Pop several times over the years, most recently on Celebration, and has opened for her on tour.

He said: "I think she's a great role model for young girls and women alike, and I don't understand why people give her such a hard time."

Video: Discovering My Destiny

"My life has been changed. I must share my story with you," says Madonna in a new email message.

"It all began seven years ago when I learned of a small country in Africa called Malawi. Over one million children in this country have been orphaned by AIDS and extreme poverty. Children have been left raising children. Learn more by watching the video message I created for you and discover my interest and concern for Malawi:"

"The moment I realized the impact I could have on these children, my life was transformed. With the smallest actions, I have witnessed enormous change -- and I'd like to give you the opportunity to help others in need and experience the same kind of fulfillment."

''Where could we have been without you?''

Madonna has been branded a ''God'' by one of the children at the Malawi orphanage she adopted son David from, Contactmusic reports.

The singer - who adopted the boy, now four, from the African country in October 2006 when he was 13 months old - visited the centre where he used to live this week and the children couldn't hold back their praise for her.

One child said to her: "You are our God. Where could we have been without you?"

Workers at the Home Child Care Centre in Mchinji, Malawi, also spoke highly of the 51-year-old star about the way she has been raising David.

The centre's director, Lucy Chipeta, said: "David is too young to understand... but for us who remember the sickly tiny little baby of 2006, it was hard to hold back tears, including Madonna."

Orphanage founder Thomson Chipeta added to Us Weekly magazine: "He is so boisterous! I can't believe he is the same chap of 2006."

Madonna promises electricity for Malawian village

Madonna has promised electricity to a village in Malawi, the impoverished southern African country where she runs a charity organization and from which she has adopted two children.

Speaking in Mphandula, some 30 miles from Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, the singer said Thursday: "I know you work in darkness. I will bring you electricity."

Madonna's Raising Malawi charity already has donated $500,000 for a child care center in the village that feeds and educates 3,000 orphaned children.

Madonna arrived in Malawi on Sunday accompanied by her four children. On Monday she broke ground for her $15-million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.
About 500,000 children in this nation of 12 million have lost a parent to AIDS.

William Orbit talks about Ray Of Light and Madonna

William Orbit is picking his Tracks of My Years on BBC Radio 2 this week in a pre-recorded interview played daily. Today Ray Of Light was one of the featured tracks and here are some highlights from his interview:

Presenter Zoe Ball mentioned that she thought 4 million copies in the UK were sold - William said he'd heard it was 17 million worldwide!

He is still friends with Madonna and keeps in contact with her by email and sees her occasionally in LA and London.

Zoe asked if they would work together again. William replied that he (and of course Madonna) never look back although there are lots of tracks they worked on which are probably being saved for a rainy day!

At the time Ray Of Light was being recorded, Madonna was 'friendly' with a very tall basketball player who came into the studio to hear the recording. He actually fell asleep whilst there much to Madonna's amazement! William said that he's heard that loud music can actually make you feel drowsy especially if you've been working out to keep fit like a basketball player would!

Fans can listen to the interview again at www.bbc.co.uk - the episode will be available later today. Skip through to 2 hours 35 minutes when Ray Of Light is played and then William talks about the track. Only available for next 7 days.

Ethan Hawke praises Madonna for Gypsy support

Actor Ethan Hawke on Saturday praised Madonna for her boldness in speaking out against discrimination against Gypsies, words that provoked boos from thousands of fans at her concert in Romania.

Hawke, visiting Romania to help promote his mother’s charity supporting education for Gypsy children, placed the pop superstar alongside Bob Marley and John Lennon as part of a tradition of artists speaking out against racism.

“She transcended being a pop star,” he told reporters. “She drew international attention and shone the spotlight on a level of racism and the need for greater education,” Hawke said.

At an August concert in Bucharest on her “Sticky & Sweet” tour, Madonna called for an end to widespread discrimination against Eastern Europe’s Gypsies, also known as Roma. Thousands of fans responded by booing her.

“I don’t have an agenda, Madonna doesn’t have an agenda. We aren’t politicians,” Hawke said.

Hawke, 38, was to speak later Saturday at the Ovidiu Rom charity Halloween ball. He and his mother, Leslie Hawke, the charity’s president, were already dressed in costume: the actor in top hat and tails and his mother in a Japanese-style kimono, black wig and geisha-like makeup.

“I love her, she’s always been an idol of mine and she’s been so nice to me – I think I can say now that we’re friends, which feels a bit weird,” she told Grazia Australia.

“I love her daughter Lourdes. She is such a lovely young girl. She came to my show with her mom and we got along famously.”

In the sketch, the duo argued over who was hotter before getting into a catfight.

“We were thinking, what do our fans want to see? And we thought, they want to see us fight. I was pulling her hair and we couldn’t stop laughing,” she added.

Fans wanted for Everybody magazine article

Journalist Peter Magennis would like some input from fans for a new magazine article he is putting together about Madonna and her first single Everybody:
Following my July 2008 cover feature for Record Collector magazine, I’m currently working on another magazine feature article about Madonna.

Inspired by the recent release of Madonna’s latest greatest hits collection, the aptly titled Celebration; the focus of the article will be the most in-depth, behind the scenes account of the making of Madonna’s very first single, Everybody ever told.

The article will be told with the help of the song’s producer Mark Kamins, the recording engineer Butch Jones, studio owner Bob Blank, the musicians (including keyboardist Fred Zarr, drummer Leslie Ming and guitarist Ira Siegel) and her first ever agent, Rob Prinz, who were all there with her in the recording studio to witness her history in the making - and all of whom I have conducted original, exclusive interviews with.

Of course the story wouldn’t be complete without hearing from Madonna’s fans, including the original club kids who hung out at Danceteria and witnessed her debut performance of Everybody, and the world’s very first Madonna-wannabe!

If you’re a long-time fan of Madonna, who remembers when Everybody was released I’d love to hear from you. Maybe you saw her perform live at Howie Montaug’s No Entiendes, or maybe you witnessed one of her track dates at The Roxy or Paradise Garage in New York City. Did you read the review of Everybody in the Village Voice? Or maybe you just remember hearing Everybody being played on WKTU radio.

Maybe you’re from the other side of the pond and saw Madonna’s UK debut at The Camden Palace. Whatever your story, I’d love to hear your recollections of Madonna’s very first single release. Please email me at Peter@TheBeatsWithin.com (''Peter@TheBeatsWithin.com'')– I look forward to hearing from you.

Debi Mazar: My Kids Have Play Dates With Madonna

Want to date Madonna?

Entourage star Debi Mazar has had plenty of dates with the pop icon - at least while their kids are present.

'Madonna and I have been friends for almost three decades - dear friends,' Mazar, 45, tells CelebrityBabyScoop.com. 'Our children have had play dates, and we will always be friends.'

'We are both creative minds,' she says, adding that she hopes to work with her again.

Madonna takes to the dancefloor

Madonna is prepared to grind hard to promote man-candy Jesus Luz's career. The pop superstar showed up to catch the tail end of her boyfriend's DJ gig at the DVD release party of Matt Tyrnauer's 'Valentino: The Last Emperor' on the 18th floor of the Standard Hotel. 'She was grinding with a bunch of hot fashion guys while Luz spun,' says a spy. 'She's been tak ing a more active role in promoting him, so she stuck around for a bit and mingled before they left together (right).'

Madonna has already given her Brazilian boy-toy's modeling career a push, helping him land a juicy contract with Dolce & Gabbana, although her rep insists she's 'not at all involved in managing the career of Jesus Luz.' Also in attendance were Adrian Brody, Charlie Rose, Diane von Furstenberg, Martha Stewart, Marc Jacobs, Katie Lee - who was overheard discussing her new book of recipes in the elevator - and Brian Grazer and his former 'culture czar'

Brad Grossman.

Madonna's autographed shoes raise $16,600 USD for charity

Madonna's one pair of designer shoes reportedly fetched about $16,600 USD for Roma children at a Romania charity auction.

Madonna donated one of her favorite specially made pair of autographed designer skyscraper gold heels Christian Dior shoes to a charity supporting education of Roma children, which was auctioned off at the fifth annual Ovidiu Rom Halloween Charity Ball held in Bucharest (Romania).

One of the golden heels was reportedly marked with kisses and a heart by her while the other was autographed 'Love Madonna'. Oscar nominated Hollywood star Ethan Hawke (Training Day) reportedly spoke at the Ball.

A gold chain donated by Oscar winner actress Vanessa Redgrave (Mary, Queen of Scots) was auctioned off at about $8,300 USD. Money thus collected will be used to buy clothes and schoolbooks for Roma children, according to reports.

Madonna shoots Dolce and Gabbana's campaign

From Dolce & Gabbana's Swide blogazine:

Madonna has joined forces with Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana to showcase their spring/summer 2010 collection in the brand's forthcoming ad campaign. The campaign will be shot today in New York by photographer Steven Klein.

Madonna first met the designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce back in the early nineties and have retained a strong bond and mutual respect ever since. After first meeting the global superstar whilst she was on the set of Dick Tracy in New York, the designers went onto design her costumes for the now iconic, The Girlie Show tour in 1993.

As Dolce & Gabbana's spring/summer 2010 collection returned to the Italian roots of the brand, evoking its strong heritage and revisiting iconic pieces such as the corset (the designer's finale was composed solely of corsets) it seemed only fitting that Madonna, who embodies both the strong sensuality of the brand and who shares an Italian heritage with the designers should be the one to showcase the Sicilian inspired collection.

Reports: Madonna to visit Brazil next week

It has been reported by major Brazilian newspapers that Madonna will be in Brazil next week, from Nov 09th to Nov 14th.

She is reportedly going to land in Rio de Janeiro on Monday but she is expected to be travelling alone. She is going to meet with Brazilian entrepeneur Eike Baptista to discuss about his donations to her Raising Malawi fund. She will also meet with Rio de Janeiro's Governor and Mayor to discuss social projects to happen in slums of this city and state.

According to reports Madonna will travel to São Paulo on Thursday to meet with first lady Marisa, wife of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, also to discuss social projects in slums of the whole country.

She may meet Jesus Luz during her stay as he's expected to be landing in Brazil next week.

Madonna was granted a visa in the Brazilian council in New York yesterday. This is the 3rd time Madonna visits Brazil, the first time was in 1993 with her Girlie Show tour and also last year with her smash hit tour Sticky & Sweet. It was also during her 2008 stay that she met Jesus Luz during a photoshoot for W magazine in Rio de Janeiro.

Quotes on Madonna: ''She's simply beautiful''

"Very, very tired but very happy as well." Stefano Gabbana briefly tweeted about the long day at the photoshoot for the new campaign with Madonna by Steven Klein. "It's really cold tonight," he added a few minutes after 8 PM local time from New York City.

"We r at the last shot... M she's simply beautiful...", he added one hour before.

The shooting took place in New York City on Friday, as M-Tribe exclusively reported last month. Designer Domenico Dolce was also on the set. Steven Klein also shot Dolce & Gabbana's male campaign on Wednesday.

Madonna finishes new screenplay

Madonna has confirmed that she has completed writing a new film script.

The popstar, who wrote and directed her first feature Filth And Wisdom in 2008, said that she is planning to relaunch her movie career.

The 51-year-old told Absolute Now: 'I just finished writing a script and I am trying to get funding and casting for it, believe it or not.' 'It's called We and it's a love story. It is two parallel love stories told from a woman's point of view, obviously. One is a historical story that took place with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. And the other is one I made up about a couple in New York.'

It is thought that Madonna will not star in the forthcoming film.

Madonna's Raising Malawi school construction blocked by villagers

A project to build a girl's school in Malawi funded by Madonna has run into problems after villagers sought to block its construction.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01517/Malawi_1517595c.jpg

A group of around 140 villagers in Chinkhota village, about 10 miles outside the capital Lilongwe are demanding more money for land the government has leased to Madonna's charity – Raising Malawi – for 99 years.

Talks between senior government officials and representatives from the singer's charity have failed to resolve the dispute, the latest controversy for the singer in the African country from which she has adopted two children.

The government has now threated to arrest any villages seeking to prevent the building going ahead.

"If we cannot agree on this and if you cannot understand that this is government land, then I will have no choice but tell police to arrest you people for blocking development work on the site, " Lilongwe Charles Kalimba, the district commissioner, told villagers.

Madonna was in the Central African country last week to start the building project by planting a Moringa tree, a hardy tree with edible leaves.

"If this school is a success – with God willing it will be – we will replicate it not only in Malawi but in other parts of the world as well," she said.

The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is expected to be completed in two years and will admit 500 girls from the small southern African country's 28 districts. The construction is expected to cost £9 million.

Malawi's authorities came under fire after Madonna adopted 13-month-old boy, David Banda, in 2006, with critics accusing them of giving the singer special treatment by skirting laws that ban non-residents from adopting children.

In June this year, Malawi's highest court overturned a lower-court ruling made in April, which said the pop star could not adopt a four-year-old girl – Mercy James – because the singer was not a resident of the country.

An Aids epidemic has left more than a million children orphaned in Malawi, a country of 13 million people.

"We are protesting because we feel government and Raising Malawi have not been fair ... earlier agreements about how much they were supposed to pay us have been scrapped and now we are being told the land does not belong to us," the village chief, Chinkhota, said after the meeting.

b]Madonna wants to help Rio slums, says governor[/b]

Madonna, who has promoted school building in the African country Malawi, is now turning her star power onto projects to improve the notorious slums of Rio de Janeiro.

The 51-year-old star is in Rio to visit some of the Brazilian city’s slums, or “favelas”, and meet with one of the country’s richest businessmen to discuss setting up social projects, said state Governor Sergio Cabral.

“She will get to know some social projects; she is enchanted with Rio and wants to help,” Cabral said. The beachside city has about 1,000 slums, many of them controlled by violent drug gangs or other armed groups.

A major outbreak of violence last month, which followed Rio’s selection to host the 2016 Olympics, underlined its stubborn security and poverty problems.

Madonna states Brazil visit is 'strictly business'

Madonna has refuted reports she's jetted to Brazil to meet her boyfriend Jesus Luz's family - insisting her visit is strictly business.

The Material Girl landed in Luz's native country this week alongside her beau, fuelling speculation she is to step up the romance by meeting the model's relatives.

But Madonna is adamant she is only in South America for charity work - she plans to visit some of Rio de Janeiro's slums and to discuss setting up some 'social projects' with the city's governor Sergio Cabral.

She tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, 'I am going there strictly for fundraising and humanitarian purposes.'

The singer is also sponsoring a documentary on the children living in slums.

Madonna will be swapping music for modelling once again, as she becomes the latest cover girl for Dolce And Gabbana.

The Italian fashion duo – who designed iconic costumes for her Girlie Show and Sticky And Sweet tours in 1993 and 2008 – announced on their online magazine, Swide.com, that the Queen of Pop is the face of their spring/summer 2010 campaign.

“To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true,” said designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

It’s the latest modelling coup for Madonna, who was the face of Louis Vuitton for two seasons.

The ads were shot last week in New York with acclaimed photographer Steven Klein.

''We must do more!''

Raising Malawi co-founder Michael Berg sent in an email mail-out today back from what he calls an "emotionally charged" trip to Malawi with Madonna the other week.

"It wasn't the poverty or hardship in Malawi that shocked Madonna - it was your response to it. When Madonna pledged to match $100,000 in your donations to Raising Malawi, she never dreamt that you'd crush that goal in just a few days!"

"After the news of your generosity set in, Madonna looked around and said, "We must do more!" Madonna has upped the stakes and pledged to match an additional $150,000 in donations made in the next week."

"Will you make a donation to Raising Malawi? Madonna will match your donation today: www.raisingmalawi.org/doubletheimpact."

"The paradox we experienced in this small African nation is hard to put into words. The poverty and lack of basic resources for the children in Malawi is nothing short of heartbreaking. And yet upon our arrival, the spark of hope in the eyes of these young children is unlike anything I have seen before.
That spark comes directly from you.
These boys and girls, many of whom were orphaned after losing their parents to AIDS, are receiving the critical resources, support and love all children deserve."

"Together, we can do even more. Please support the children of Raising Malawi now by making a donation. Madonna will personally match your donation - doubling the impact."

Fabien Baron talks about Madonna picture retrospective

Jacob Bernstein interviewed Sex book art director Fabien Baron for The Daily Beast and managed to make Fabien say more than he probably should:

Fabien Baron has redesigned some of the most famous publications in the world, including Harper’s Bazaar and French Vogue. He talks to Jacob Bernstein about reinventing Andy Warhol’s Interview and doing a new book with Madonna.

Fabien Baron’s office on New York's Hudson Street is the cleanest thing you’ve ever seen. There’s a flat-screen TV on the wall in the waiting room and a couple of loveseats to sit on, but everything is white. The walls are white. The seats are white. The coffee table is white. It’s almost like a doctor’s office, except that the man who works here with his staff of 35 doesn’t diagnose illnesses: He cures design problems.

Baron’s said to be working on another coffee table book with the singer now - a massive retrospective of the queen of reinvention as photographed over the years by everyone from Herb Ritts to Steven Klein. 'I’m not sure I’m supposed to talk about it yet,' he says, with characteristic self-restraint.

Madonna in Tears after Huge Donation Offered

US pop star Madonna broke into tears when Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista announced that he would donate $7 million for her welfare projects, a media report said.

During a dinner at Batista’s home Thursday, the tycoon asked the singer how much money she collected and how much more she needed. When she answered that she had $3 million and needed to raise $10 million, the billionaire announced his readiness to complete the sum.

It was at that moment that Madonna was moved to tears, the Folha de Sao Paulo daily reported.

At the dinner were Rio de Janeiro State Governor Sergio Cabral and Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The singer left Brazil Friday after a five-day visit seeking investments for a number of social projects that she wants to launch.

On Thursday before the dinner, the artist made a quick trip to Sao Paulo to meet a group of poor women, with whom she spoke about the positive values contained in the Hebrew doctrine of the Kabbalah, of which she herself is a follower.

The mayor told the media that the singer had accepted his offer for her to perform at the next New Year’s festival, for which some two million people would gather on the Copacabana beach.

Madonna raises $11 mln for Malawi charity

Madonna has raised 11 million dollars from Brazilian millionaires for her Raising Malawi Foundation, the daily Rio O Dia reported on Monday.

The US pop star, who visited Brazil to stroke the country’s wealthy into giving, notably won an unspecified pledge from the country’s richest man, mining magnate Ike Batista, who has an estimated fortune of 7.5 billion dollars.

Madonna, 51, was accompanied during her fund-raising by 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus de Luz, whom US and British gossip pages have referred to as her “toy boy”.

Her Raising Malawi Foundation, started in 2006, finances humanitarian projects in Malawi, the southern African country where Madonna has adopted two children.

Madonna’s Demo Tape on Auction

Have you ever had a burning desire to own a pair of Michael Jackson’s beaded socks? How about a suit tailor-made for John Lennon when he was a Beatle? Or you might like a size 42 jacket Elvis Presley wore in the film “Speedway.” If you’re in the market for a used car, how about a black 1985 Mercedes that once provided a royal ride for the King of Pop?

http://i47.tinypic.com/2ivh442.jpg

Julien estimates the tape will bring $1,000 to $2,000, noting that the Material Girl still holds the copyrights to all the songs.

Those items are among hundreds of rare rock relics being auctioned off this Saturday, Nov. 21, by Julien’s Auctions at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square in New York City and online at juliensauctions.com.

Video and more here : http://allaboutmadonna.com/2009/11/madonnas-demo-tape-on-auction.php

…Another unique item is a demo tape an unknown performer named Madonna made in 1979 to send to record companies in an attempt to get a recording contract. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, it’s just Madonna, her music unadorned by post-production magic and elaborate orchestration. The songs on the tape include “All My Love,” “Hear Me” (a song that evolved into “Shine a Light”), “Simon Says” (which became the familiar “Love Express”) and “Little Lost Boy.”

Revolver News

Revolver sent to radio, no video planned

Warner Music Netherlands confirms via Madonna.nl that the David Guetta remix of Revolver was sent to Dutch radio today, but just like Guy Oseary confirmed last month, no video will be filmed for the release.

It is currently unknown whether Revolver is going to be released as a physical single or digital-only, but it's listed for December 14th in UK's Music Week magazine. This date is not confirmed by Warner, neither any other airplay or release date for other countries.

While Revolver, featuring the biggest selling hip hop artist of 2008 definitely has hit potential, fans should not expect any notable chart action for this catchy song as it's been available as an individual download on iTunes for 2 months already and it's unlikely that gets considerable airplay, which means Madonna's very last Warner single will be a "for the fans" release with several remixes.

------------------------------------------------------

That sucks it NEEDS a video for it to sell. Otherwise it will flop like Miles Away did. Come on PLEASE release a video for Revolver!

Bye bye NRJ... Hello Fun Radio

The 25 years of collaboration between Madonna and French radio NRJ have come to an end. NRJ was considered as the "Madonna Radio' in France, they used to heavily promote her albums and singles except for the latest ones and they even boycotted her because she refused to attend the NRJ Music Awards back in 2003.

Another French radio, Fun Radio, issued a press release yesterday announcing they signed a partnership with Madonna and Warner France, from now on they will be the official Madonna radio in France, they will give her the promotional support the best selling female recording artist of all time deserves.

The Celebration remix featuring Akon is already on heavy rotation on Fun Radio and a Madonna online radio, ''Celebration Station by Fun Radio'', will be launched on december 7.

They will also air an exclusive interview on december 4 at 6pm cet and for the occasion the Queen of Pop recorded a short message used in a tv commercial which is available to watch online here (http://www.funradio.fr/actu/radio/5930628662/madonna-choisit-fun-radio.html) on Fun Radio website.

Rumour: Madonna dons bullet proof vest in Brazi

lMadonna insisted on wearing a bullet proof vest during her visit to a Rio de Janeiro slum even as she was accompanied by a squad of bodyguards.

The state governor also gave company to the 51-year-old hitmaker, reports the Daily Express.

Madonna stayed in the shanty town for nearly 40 minutes.

The star is trying to raise funds from local businessmen to aid a children’s charity there.

29. Confessions on a Dancefloor – Madonna (Maverick, 2005)

Anointing Stuart “Les Rythmes Digitales” Price as her voguish producer du jour, Madge approaches her sixth decade with the slinky chutzpah of a 19-year-old club kitten. From the Abba-sampling Hung Up to the turbo-charged feminist floorfiller Jump, this is her best album since True Blue.

Maripol comments on her photo of Madonna

http://allaboutmadonna.com/images/news/09-11-27-madonna-by-maripol.jpg

Madonna photographed inside New York City’s Danceteria in 1983.

“The picture is talking in a way. It’s saying ‘Look who I am. I’m not famous but I’m going to be.’ She didn’t drink much but she liked her Martini. I don’t think she smoked. Maybe I gave her the cigarette for attitude. I never saw Madonna smoking cigarettes as much as other people. She never did coke. That’s why she was Madonna, why she became as big as she did: because she was always in control.” – Maripol

Britney Channeled 'Classy' Madonna in Radar Video

Britney Spears has been compared to Madonna since she leapt onto the pop scene, dancing around in a schoolgirl uniform. The two did eventually hook up for 'Me Against the Music,' but Britney's video for 'Radar,' from her Circus album, really paid tribute to the pop queen and her ultra-glamorous Bedtime Stories period.

In the video, Britney is stuck in a love triangle with two very sexy polo players, who spend a good part of their time trying to woo Spears or riding their horses. Spears hooked up with 'Boys' director Dave Meyers for an ode to Madonna's 'Take a Bow.'

'That was the premise behind 'Radar.' [We were] looking for a way to take her into a contemporary, classy environment,' Meyers explained. 'I felt empowered by referencing Madonna's video. Britney hasn't done anything like that.'

Rupert Everret talks about Madonna…

What’s more, he has a special knack of always being where the action is: in Moscow with the tanks and Yeltsin during the 1991 coup, strolling through downtown Manhattan on 11 September, nightclubbing in Miami with Gianni Versace before he was shot, sleeping with Béatrice Dalle when she was the most desirable woman in France, having an affair with Paula Yates when she was one half of the most famous couple in Britain. Not forgetting his most publicly defining role: gay best friend to Madonna.

Or at least he was. Until she read his book.

“She really didn’t like it.”

Didn’t she, I say? But it’s very affectionate.

“I think it is very affectionate, and certainly with her I was very careful to only write things that were. But she felt it was an infringement of privacy.”

In fact, it is mostly very affectionate. Of their first meeting, he writes: “She had the cupid-bow lips of a silent screen star, and it was obvious that she was playing with Sean [Penn]’s cock throughout the meal. She was mesmerizing. She oozed sex and demanded a sexual response from everyone. It didn’t matter if you were gay. You were swept up all the same.”

When I read it a second time around, though, I think I spot some of the areas of potential concern. His observation that she smells “vaguely of sweat”, to take one example. Or that, like all Hollywood’s alpha females, she’s something of a “she-man”. Or just possibly it was this bit that she didn’t care much for: “Just like America, everything about Madonna had changed. And what had happened had been carefully wrapped in psychological clingfilm and locked inside an interior fridge. Sometimes, in moments of stress, Madonna had power cuts and the old whiny barmaid came screaming out of the defrosting cold room.”

Still, I say, it’s not like you give anything away.

“No I don’t, but goddesses like that are obsessed with their public image and want to control everything about it, so if anyone is to tell anyone anything about her it’s got to be her.”

So has she forgiven you for that now?

“No.”

Really?

“Elephants don’t forget.”

Has she not forgiven you in a jokey way, or has she really not forgiven you?

“She doesn’t trust me any more.”

Madonna loves Christian Audigier's label, but will we?

He is one of Hollywood's most popular celebrity designers, beloved by the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, David Beckham and Mariah Carey. Now Christian Audigier, the man behind the Ed Hardy label, is opening his first boutique in the UK, prompting the question: are we ready for his tattoo-inspired, crystal-encrusted clothes?

The popularity of the Ed Hardy range owes nothing to style magazines or fashionistas - it has become famous for its inclusion in celebrity wardrobes.
Although the designs of skulls, roses and tigers are the work of US tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy, they have been transformed into a global brand by French designer Audigier, who has covered a wall in his Los Angeles office with 70 paparazzi shots of Madonna wearing his clothes. Audigier says he is now working with the star to produce her own clothing range.

He was also meant to be working with Michael Jackson on a clothing brand at the time of the singer's death in June, and Audigier created stage outfits which were to be used in Jackson's comeback tour. The free publicity from these celebrity endorsements has proved a successful marketing plan - this month, Hubert Guez, chief executive of Ed Hardy, predicted that the brand would generate sales of $400m this year.

'I associate the brand with Madonna,' says Ellie Crompton, style editor of
Heat magazine. 'It would make sense for them to collaborate on a project. He's a strong horse to back in fashion, and part of the interest comes from his personality. He's a crazy character and fashion loves a character.'

As Ed Hardy clothing has become more famous, so has Audigier. The designer, who started his career working for 80s brands such as Fiorucci and Naf Naf, is as flamboyant as the sparkling T-shirts and hooded tops that have made him rich. Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson and Michael Jackson were guests at his 50th birthday party last year.

In an interview with American GQ last month, Audigier said he was due to appear in a film with rapper 50 Cent and to record an album with Kanye West. He told GQ: 'Obama was 200% advertising. I promote myself to sell my brands. Because now I am a kind of celeb. I am in a different world than the fashion industry. I am with Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Madonna. I build me as a celebrity.'

But will his clothing range catch on in Britain when the store opens in west London's Westfield Centre this week? 'Stars like David Beckham and Madonna have a massive reach with the British public,' says Crompton, 'so I can see it having a far-reaching appeal to the mass market. But how long can Audigier make that last? The label's got a very strong image, but I don't see how he can diversify the brand. It might be this year's fad.'

30 November - Something to remember: All the world is a stage

...and everyone has their part. With that Shakespearean line as the centerpiece of the song's bridge, Take A Bow signals a very special period in Madonna's career. The closing track and also the second single of the Bedtime Stories album, Take A Bow received exceptional video treatment from Madonna, and the final result of that premiered on MTV exactly 15 years ago, on November 30th, 1994. Madonna flew to historic town Ronda in Spain with the direction of Michael Haussman and created a videoclip that would serve as her plea to get her dream role as Eva Peron. Executed in a 40s style, the video showed Madonna at her classiest yet, in a Galliano dress she shone as the mistreated lover of a famous bullfighter, eventually running away from him. The storyline is interspersed with scenes of bullfighting and Madonna showing her assets in bed, not entirely abandoning the explicit Erotica years. The gorgeous video would go onto winning the Best Female Video at the 1995 VMAs and yielded a follow up in the form of the You'll See video where Madonna has the higher hand and escapes from her stalker.

While the video undoubtedly gave the single the push to become a classic, the ballad also stands on its own merits with its Oriental-tingled instrumentation (which is also inspired by the Paul Robeson version of the classic poem "Trees"), Craig Armstrong's amazing string arrangement and Madonna's silky smooth vocals backed by co-writer/co-producer Babyface, one of the most famous hitmakers at the time.

But it's the song's chart performance that made it a remarkable entry in Madonna's career. All formats of the single were released days after the video premiere and both sales and airplay would slowly and steadily climb until the end of January, when Madonna gave her first and so far only live performance of the song at the American Music Awards (the only time she sang at this show). Dressed in a Chinese gown, Madonna gave a simple but effective performance backed by an orchestra and Babyface himself, which gave great exposure to the song in the US and soon after it would climb to #1, kicking the Dallas Austin produced "Creep" by TLC from the top spot and holding it for seven weeks, which would be the longest ever for a Madonna single. While the sales of Take A Bow exceeded 600,000 copies in the US which earned it a Gold certification, it failed to reach the Platinum status of her other megahits as it was airplay where the track was really shining: it was the most played song of America for nine straight weeks. The success of the single also helped the album to stop falling down the chart and it managed to stay in the Top 20 during the Christmas season, which would eventually become the only reason why Bedtime Stories outsold Erotica in the US, as after Take A Bow started its slow descent on the charts, the album went with it and subsequent single releases didn't have much effect.

Outside the US the single also became a big hit in Canada, Japan and Australia, her other main markets of the 90s. In Europe, however, Madonna got some of her worst chart positions ever when this single got lost in the Christmas shuffle, like in Belgium, or in the UK, where it was her then-lowest peaking single and is one of the six Madonna singles that failed to reach the UK Top 10. Madonna gave 2 lip-synced performances of Take A Bow at Germany's Wetten Dass and Italy's San Remo which gave better chart performances in those countries.

The success of Take A Bow allowed it to become one of the 4 songs in Madonna's discography that can be found on 4 different Madonna albums. Featuring on all the compilations released after the single itself, proves that among all of Madonna's ballad hits of the mid-90s, Take A Bow is the pinnacle.

Unfortunately Take A Bow has never been performed live on a Madonna tour and is the only one out of the 34 hits of the Celebration compilation that was not used on a tour in any form. It is speculated that Madonna intentionally refuses to perform songs on her tours that have a "goodbye" theme. Maybe Madonna is saving Take A Bow to be her last ever live performance? Time will tell...

SING Campaign Second Anniversary

SING, the Annie Lennox song performed with the "Choir of 23" international singers and including Madonna was released two years ago today, December 1st, to coincide with World Aids Day.

To celebrate SING's second anniversary, Annie Lennox is auctioning five very special prizes.

The money raised will help prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa, where 1,000 people die from AIDS-related causes every day. Moreover, approximately a third of all pregnant women there carry the virus, and without intervention, a third of their children will be born with HIV.
Unless they get diagnosed and treated, half of all children with HIV die before their first birthday.

But it doesn't have to be like this. With appropriate intervention and treatment, these babies can be born HIV free. The SING campaign is trying to ensure that every single person living with HIV has access to treatment and support.

Since 2007, SING has raised over $2 million, and helped over 100,000 people affected by HIV in the Eastern Cape of South Africa - but there is much more work to be done, and we need your help to do it.

Click here to visit the website and place your bid today! (http://annielennoxsing.com/)

The story behind the facts

Raising Malawi Executive Director Philippe van den Bossche posted this entry on the site's blog today, on World AIDS Day.

Today is World AIDS Day - a time for us all to pause and to reflect. We could spend the day giving you shocking statistics, but today we wish to share with you stories of courageous people, not so different from you and me.

In Malawi, HIV/AIDS impacts everyone - mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and even sons and daughters. Loving people of flesh and blood, who are just trying to make the best of their situation.

Edith and her son Sinode were one such family. Watch their story in the video embedded here:

In some areas of Malawi it can cost $2 to travel to proper medical care. For many Malawians like Edith, this is an expense well beyond their means.

It takes the kind of strength and determination Edith exhibited just to make it to a hospital. Her courage not only inspires me, but will no doubt be an incredible life lesson for her son.

Many of us can relate to the experience of having to care for family members or raise children while being sick ourselves. But few of us have had to overcome the financial and logistic hurdles that Edith faced to receive basic medical care.

Learn more about Edith's story here. (http://www.raisingmalawi.org/pages/why-hiv-aids-disease/)

Sinode and many other children in Malawi need our help. They have witnessed the courage of their parents and family members, but too many are now left alone, orphans raising orphans.

Today, on World AIDS Day, I encourage you to think of the faces of this epidemic - beautiful, courageous people confronting a life-threatening disease with incredible bravery.

The people of Malawi have shown great depth of character, but now it's up to us to ensure the future of their next generation. It is the children of Malawi that will raise their great nation.
