Well I'm from Edinburgh, but have lived in Livingston for the past 3 years. Which is between Edinburgh and Glasgow but a lot closer to Edinburgh (about 10 mins outside it).

Live in a wee village called Mid Calder, it's nice but a bit quiet for my liking. When I'd lived in Edinburgh for my whole life, it made this place look like a bit of a ghost town

Definitely, Edinburgh will always be my home. I'm still there all the time as all my mates live there and so do most of my family, so I'm there pretty much every weekend.

It does have his downsides, a lot of rough areas (we lived in one of them) which is what made my mum and dad decide to move house, but every place has their rough areas.

It's a beautiful city though, great for tourists. The nightlife is pretty good as well, lots of places to go out to.

Yeah well Carrick Knowe (my old area) was never that bad but up the road was really rough, a 10 floor flat buildings were knocked down a large amount of folk living there moved down to CK and the area went downhill from there. My sister was just born, and we had drug dealers living next door and everything, so understandably they didn't want her being brought up around that.

I'd personally still rather live there but know it's best for the family as a whole to live here. It's not so bad here now, I'm starting to get to know folk around the area as I work/go to college here now for the past 18 months. I normally just work during the week, then at the weekends I go through and spent time/go on nights out with my mates and stay at one of there's or my gran who lives very close to the city centre.

Unfortunately I'm not in a band, it is my biggest wish though. Currently trying to learn guitar so maybe one day if me and my mates stick in we could get something together. What made you think I was? Just my passion for music?

..yeah I can understand why your parents would want to move because you do feel differently when you have children and what you want and don't want for them...I think there are advantages and disadvantages with both as living in a smaller place/village can make you feel a little 'insular' from the real world..and a false sense of security...I've lived in both villages and towns so that's a good balance...

..ah yeah, I know..my son was tutored at classical guitar but he taught himself to play electric and he's really quite good..(at both..)..although I might be a bit biased..I find electric guitar much more difficult, I can just about play the intro to Smoke on the Water but who can't ..?...

..do you have friends who are interested in forming a band..?...

My sister says I will probably find electric easier, as the strings are slightly wider apart. My sister got tutored a bit but mainly taught herself, she's quite good.

So far I can play one song but I've not done it that much yet to be fair. Yep, pretty much all my friends are all really into their music/gigs like me and have the same taste. I reckon if we all put our minds to it then something could come of it in a couple years time.

Yeah just this last semester to get through! Just want it to be over now, I want to have a full time job, earn my wages and be able to go home at the end of the day and do what I want with my spare time and not have to be doing a full time uni course and working ****ty jobs for little thanks and crap money; everyone says I'll miss it but I don't think I will at all, I didn't miss school when I finished that, I quite like working, I like having a routine and a fixed address and having regular money coming in!

I think the good thing about being unemployed now is that that's 11 hours I now have that I didn't have before to be doing other things... so might try and dedicate weekends to getting on top of my uni schedule and applying for graduate jobs because that's really time consuming, all these questionnaires and online forms you have to fill in only to get to the end and be told you're not "compatible" with whatever company's requirements... and I'm not even talking about any fancy jobs, I wasted an hour and a half applying for a part time job in M&S a year ago, didn't care what, just needed some work and apparently I'm not suitable... which I find offensive, having seen some of the people who work in there :idc:

So yeah just want to be qualified and then start applying for full time jobs, interviews don't bother me at all, can't wait to start applying for jobs where you're not judged on whether or not you're a student... so many places won't take you on because they think you'll quit by June, very annoying

....awww, I love that you've seen it all as being a positive thing and it gives you the opportunity and time to do other things which in the end will have more of an effect on your life long term as what you have been working for all this time is a career/job after uni and yeah, the application forms are a total nightmare and can take a few hours each to complete and that must be so draining...

..I think M&S have always been a strange place to get in and silly with their requirements from what others who have applied have said to me..?...I think that my son applied once when he was studying and didn't get in either...M&S is a bit rubbish anyway, that's probably why they're not doing so well..they don't employ good people...

Yeah :D it's a bit of a financial worry to not have a part time job anymore but my rent payments end in March (it's been done in a weird way but it's the company's policy; I pay about a month and a half's worth of rent every month so I have the room until June/July and no more rent payments after March, which means my financial situation isn't so bad, my parents are gonna try and give me what they can until March, thankfully I've been sensible with my spending so I still have a healthy bank balance but I reckon I spend about £300 a month on every day living costs - food, paying for the subway, paying for laundry... it all adds up :/

Now I can try and focus on getting ahead of my uni schedule and trying to set myself up for after it all ends!

..yeah, it'll be hard but if you can get through it then it's only really a few months and the time you can use doing other things is far more valuable and it's nice that you have parents that are able to help you out a bit and as much as they can...I'm sure that you'll have down moments and times with it all but it is just really temporary and it's so much easier to have those when you can see the end to them, which is different from when people have to struggle on very little money long term...is it German that you're doing..?..what would be your perfect/ideal job if you could choose..?...

..yeah, it'll be hard but if you can get through it then it's only really a few months and the time you can use doing other things is far more valuable and it's nice that you have parents that are able to help you out a bit and as much as they can...I'm sure that you'll have down moments and times with it all but it is just really temporary and it's so much easier to have those when you can see the end to them, which is different from when people have to struggle on very little money long term...is it German that you're doing..?..what would be your perfect/ideal job if you could choose..?...

Yeah :) it is just temporary, you're right, not long left to go at all! Uh German and a subject that's really complicated to explain but it's looking at European/Eurasian politics and international relations, kinda like a cross between politics and history but specifically focused on Europe/Asia, I consider that my main subject because it's what I'm doing my dissertation in, I find it interesting and I'm much better at it than I am at German; but most of my uni friends are on my German course - it's only really this year I've gotten to know anyone in the other course but I wouldn't call any of them friends... just people who I can chat to if I see them...

I think I would just like to have some kind of mentally stimulating office job where I need to use my brain a bit, I don't mind doing the work nobody else wants to do or the easy stuff but I think the line of work I want to get into would be dealing with trading in other countries, maybe the oil and gas sector because of where I'm from, my dissertation is looking at oil and gas trade between Russia and European countries so I find all of that really interesting.

Ah yeah, I know what you mean. Not too long to go now, I think it's worse when you can see the end though, it gets harder to wait

Oh definitely, nothing worse than when you're counting down the days until something! I had planned to finish, go away on holiday somewhere (either Greece with my home friends or Germany with my uni friends) and then go home and start job hunting or start at my new job if I managed to get a grad job before I finished... not sure if that's likely now though after losing my job, won't be able to save money for a holiday!

..yeah, the mornings are really dark and I hate driving to work when it's like that because they are country roads and we have deer/rabbits etc and there tends to be a lot around when it's darker and running over the roads...
