WWE.com is reporting CM Punk is undergoing knee surgery today in Pensacola, Florida.

There is no other information at this time about the injury, recovery time or plans moving forward for the WWE title.

WWE.com has updated the situation surrounding WWE Champion CM Punk, as it pertains to the knee surgery he underwent Tuesday afternoon.

It now appears as if Punk will no longer defend the WWE Championship at the upcoming TLC pay-per-view. Instead a six-man tag team match will replace the former ladder match main event. It will feature Ryback teaming up with the WWE Tag Team champions, Kane and Daniel Bryan, as they take on the Shield.

Unless they are given a match on next week's Monday Night Raw or Smackdown, their contest at TLC will mark the first ever WWE sanctioned match for the NXT trio of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

According to a letter supposedly written by Vince McMahon, the six-man match will still be a Tables, Ladders and Chairs contest, although for the first time ever it will be fought under pinfall and submission rules. The letter also says that Ryback is still in line for another WWE Championship match, and it will take place "in the very near future".

My memory of 2007-2010 is really cloudy for some reason but he got over big during that time. He may have jobbed but he definitely moved up the card before stagnating again until last summer. SES came off the back of him working with 'Taker in 2009 [the irony being that 'Taker's myth has grown so much since then that it was more believable that Punk could beat him back then than it is now. I have no interest in a rumored Punk/Taker match at WrestleMania].

I watched the Best In The World documentary recently. It's one of the finest WWE have ever done. They spend a long time and a lot of footage on his indie days and it really reveals what a complete disaster his first world title reign was. They insulted both him and the belt by chucking it on him for no reason and having him wrestle in midcard matches.

When he first turned heel Vince called him into his office to ask Punk was he up for it. Punk got deeply offended and told Vince within six months he would be the hottest heel in the company.
