And Yes, Arsenal will be one of the stronger sides this season they are going to make a few defensive signings already got one, and maybe 1 - 2 midfield signings no strikers i don't think.

But with liverpool maybe not able buy new transfers and be on a tighter budget than Arsenal hopefully we can pull above them...

top 2 in premiership next year Arsenal and Chelsea.

True Arsenal be in the title hunt alright just get two top class centre backs and we be on are way:thumbs:

They are the teams with the best odds for winning.

But Burnley LOL 5000/1 some places up to 10000/1

Imagine that you put a tenner on burnley just for fun... all premiership teams debts and that collapsed and they had to sell every player and all youngsters had to play instead. lol

"I therefore advise him to sign (Igor) Akinfeev…and Liverpool? Perhaps (Aleksandr) Anyukov."

Calms all the Arsenal doubters in Wengar about moving back when there were rumours.

Perez: Real couldn't tempt Arsene

Updated: June 5, 2009, 11:07 AM EDT

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says Arsene Wenger was never interested in taking over at the Bernabeu as he is so committed to Arsenal.

Perez apppointed Manuel Pellegrini earlier this week after reaching a deal with Villarreal but he was originally interested in Wenger as well, only to learn the Frenchman had no intention of leaving.

Wenger was linked with Real after receiving some criticism towards the end of another trophyless season with the London club but Perez found him to be totally committed to his job at the Emirates Stadium.

"From the beginning we have worked on two possibilities - Wenger and Pellegrini," Perez said in L'Equipe.

"We have always been attracted by the Frenchman and we talked to him several times.

"He didn't come because he feels very responsible about what has happened and what will happen at Arsenal. He didn't want to abandon the club that he has given such a lot to.

"But as (director general Jorge) Valdano said: 'Pellegrini is the Wenger of Spanish football'."

Season's best
Kammy picks his highlights of the 2008/09 campaign

And so we've come to the end of a fantastic Premier League season.

The battle between Manchester United and Liverpool has been a joy to watch - but when it came down to a war of words between Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez, there was only going to be one winner, and it wasn't the Spaniard!

Liverpool made no mistakes early on in the season, but Rafa's famous rant showed that Fergie had got under his skin and they lost it for a few weeks. They soon got back on track and pushed United all of the way but it was the Red Devils that took the trophy.

It was another magnificent achievement for Ferguson, the best manager of my lifetime. I was around to watch Bob Paisley and Brian Clough do their stuff, but Ferguson has topped both of them.

At the other end of the table, mis-management cost Newcastle their Premier League status. Like their neighbours Middlesbrough, they did not have one of the worst three squads in the division yet they've gone down.

There have been too many changes at St James' Park and it looks as though the players have lost their desire to play for the club. By the end of the season nothing could get them going.

At Middlesbrough, Gareth Southgate showed a bit of naivety and he'll need to learn from that. He's fortunate to be working under the best chairman that ever walked the land and he'll probably be given the opportunity to try and bring them up again next year.

I was delighted for Hull, who limped over the line but did all of the hard work at the start of the season. If you flip the season upside down and they'd finished like they'd started then people wouldn't be criticising them.

I'm also delighted for Roy Hodgson who has done a fantastic job at Fulham. When you consider they were almost relegated last season, to get them into Europe without spending a lot of money is tremendous.

It goes to show that team-work, togetherness and organisation can go a long way. A bit like Stoke, Fulham have proved that you can achieve great things in this league if you make yourself hard to beat.

Kammy's Picks of the Season

TEAM - Manchester United
It has been a fine feat for Hull and Stoke to survive because they've not had great resources and have relied on a few Championship-level players to survive. They deserve a mention, but the team of the season has got to be Manchester United. They've won the World Club Championship, the Carling Cup, the Premier League and are in the final of the Champions League. The only downside is that a fixture pile-up meant they played a weakened team in the FA Cup semi-final and they paid the price. If they win the Champions League they could be remembered as one of the best teams of all time.

GAFFER - Sir Alex Ferguson
There's lots of contenders for this. David Moyes has taken Everton to fifth in the table and an FA Cup Final, despite all of the injuries he's had to his strikers. Phil Brown has done brilliantly to keep Hull up and their early-season form was magnificent. And in a market without Fergie I would give it to Tony Pulis because his work in keeping Stoke up has been massively underestimated. However, you can't ignore what Sir Alex has done. It goes without saying that he's the manager of the season for what he's achieved - and he's one of the greatest of all time.

PLAYER - Steven Gerrard
This is a difficult one to call. Ryan Giggs showed fine early-season form and I think Cristiano Ronaldo was fantastic in the second half of the campaign. Frank Lampard has had another great season and maybe doesn't get the credit he deserves, while Nicolas Anelka won the Golden Boot even though he wasn't really playing as a centre-forward for most of the season. However, Steven Gerrard is my choice. His level of performance has been consistently magnificent and on current form it would be hard to disagree with those who say he's the best player in the world. I just wonder whether he will play in his preferred position in the England team.

GAME - Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal
This was the game of the season for me. I remember Liverpool playing some absolutely outstanding football throughout the match, but Arsenal's counter-attacking play was devastating. Even top-class players like Jamie Carragher and Pepe Reina couldn't stop the sheer class of Andrey Arshavin on that night. He showed everybody in England why Arsene Wenger waited so long to get him. That was the game that finally upset Liverpool's title challenge and it was memorable for so many reasons.

GOAL - Emmanuel Adebayor v Blackburn
My goal of the season is Cristiano Ronaldo's long-range strike against Porto in the quarter-final of the Champions League, I'll never forget that goal. But from a Premier League perspective my favourite was scored by Arsenal against Blackburn at the start of the season. There were 27 passes in the build-up, but it wasn't 27 square passes, it was 27 probing passes looking for an opportunity. Denilson found it with the cross onto the head of Adebayor and it was great to watch.

GRIPE - The referees' closed shop
I've said it all season, but it's about time Keith Hackett and the referees allowed people who've played the game to sit down with them and help them improve their performances. Graham Poll told me the other day that blocking somebody in the box from a corner was "cheating" - but anybody who has played the game knows that it has gone on for years and is totally different to pulling a shirt. Referees also don't take into account the angle of the movement of the ball when deciding on fouls. It would help for them to consult people with football experience, but they don't seem to want it to happen. It's a closed shop and it's "them and us". I tell referees my opinion all of the time and some are prepared to listen, some aren't. There's nothing wrong with people with no football background becoming referees - but at the highest level why not sit back and listen to people who've played the game?

Do you think Man Utd go and spend a few million on decent midfielders and decent striker?

The Game of the season by a good bit too:tongue:

David Prentice: Everton FC's Mikel Arteta lives up to the song

THE Gwladys Street has always been economical with the truth when it comes to fitting lyrics to their finely crafted songs.

Bobby Latchford couldn't really walk on water.

The only thing regal about Andy King was his name.

While most of the Blues who managed to get Wembley tickets probably did manage to have some tea last Saturday night.

But there's one song which is absolutely, unequivocally correct. There's nobody better than Mikel Arteta – and statistics back that up.

The best little Spaniard they know missed a third of Everton's season, yet still topped the Blues' goal creation chart yet again.

He was joined this season, however, by Steven Pienaar, whose influence continued to grow on the side as the season progressed – and whose left flank partnership with Leighton Baines was a telling weapon for the Blues.

But statistics only tell half the story when watching Mikel Arteta in full flow.

Bare figures cannot beging to express the matchless grace and subtlety of a man who embodies the club's School of Science traditions.

Stats are all well and good, but there's something ethereal, elemental almost of watching an artist splash his brush about Goodison Park.

Mikel Arteta might top Everton's stats chart once more – but he's also number one in the popularity parade.

Again.

Tottenham and Liverpool On Alert After Boro Admit Downing Is For Sale
Submitted by Alan James on Fri, 2009-06-05 17:48.

A bidding-war looks likely following the confirmation that Middlesbrough are prepared to sell one of their star players.

Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb has sanctioned the sale of England winger Stewart Downing should the club receive an acceptable offer for the academy graduate.

Downing is recovering from a foot injury sustained in the final home game of last season following a challenge from Aston Villa’s Stilian Petrov. Some doubt has been expressed about Downing’s likely recovery time, but Lamb isn’t expecting such concerns to put off any interested parties.

Lamb said: “Who knows whether Stewart will be here in August. If he is he will be playing for us in the Championship. But if the right offer comes along he will be allowed to leave.”

He added: “It has been suggested he could be out for as long as six months but he is quite a good healer and we hope he will be back before then.”

“There is no reason why Stewart won't make a full recovery. He has been told that by the surgeon and he believes it. If someone wants to take a chance on him now, it's up to them. It's out of our hands.”

Middlesbrough need to balance the books following their relegation from the Barclays Premier League, and the Teesside club are willing to listen to offers for a player who has been with his hometown club since his school days and came through the ranks at the Middlesbrough Academy.

Downing handed in a written transfer request to Middlesbrough on 5 January, with Tottenham Hotspur making several bids to lure him to White Hart Lane; but Middlesbrough refused to sanction any move with their own Premiership status in considerable doubt at the time.

The news of his availability is certain to grab the attention of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp. However, other teams will be interested, with Liverpool reportedly also tracking him.

Lawrenson fears Liverpool decline

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson fears the club could be left behind by their rivals as a result of the financial situation at Anfield.

The club's owners lost £42.6m last year and he is worried that could affect their ability to buy new players.

"One or two of the top clubs are already doing the business, and buying players," Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

"If Liverpool have to wait they're already going to be behind the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea."

Lawrenson added it would be a "great blow" to the Anfield side if they started next season with a weaker squad than this year "because that isn't going to win the Premier League".

The loss was mainly caused by the £36m of interest payments that Kop Football Holdings - the company set up by American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to buy and run the club - had to make to service the debt it took on when buying the club in March 2007.

Accounts for the year showed the club itself made a profit of £10.2m with a record turnover of £160m.

But auditors KPMG LLP warned that the need to refinance loans of £350m by 24 July "may cast significant doubt on the group's and parent company's ability to continue as a going concern".

Liverpool Football Club ran Manchester United close in this season's Premier League title race, and while there has been disappointment at losing out on the championship prize, coming second has played a crucial off-field role.

Clinching runners-up spot means Liverpool is guaranteed passage to the lucrative Champions League group stages next season, with its gate monies, TV revenues, and other commercial spin-offs.

And that financial boost could not be more timely - for the Anfield club's two American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are fast approaching the 24 July deadline to repay the £350m they owe to banks RBS and Wachovia.

Latest accounts show the parent company of Liverpool FC, owned by the duo, lost £42.6m in the year to August 2008.

Annual accounts for Kop Football Holdings show how much money is being drained to service the costs of the parent company's loans - with interest payments accounting for £36.5m of Kop's losses.

But auditor KPMG has noted that the club's owners are confident they can secure the funding, and the US pair are said to be relaxed about obtaining a refinancing package.

The pair bought Liverpool in February 2007 and since then have squabbled with each other, alienated some fans, failed to progress with a promised new stadium, and seen potential sales of the club fall away.

This deal would be good for both teams as Arsenal need experience at the back and Juventus could do with the money to strengthen the side. Also will be people please stop linking Marcos Senna to Arsenal. And saying he will cost 10 million pounds!!! You must be joking. At his age anything over a million would be mad!

But auditors KPMG LLP warned that the need to refinance loans of £350m by 24 July "may cast significant doubt on the group's and parent

They need another investor badly but liverpool be okay and Lawerson also likes to stir the pot doesn't he?

SPL pays up in lieu of TV money

The Scottish Premier League is to pay £3m to 12 member clubs from its own funds to tide them over in lieu of money owed by broadcaster Setanta.

Cash-strapped Setanta was due to make the final payment of the season on Monday for its football match coverage.

But, after a second board meeting in three days, the SPL has decided to dip into its own coffers to prevent any clubs facing financial difficulties.

Meanwhile, negotiations between the SPL and Setanta will continue this weekend.

The broadcaster, which last year agreed to pay £125m over four seasons for extending its exclusive live coverage from 2010, has been attempting to renegotiate a number of its contracts because of cash-flow problems.

That followed the losee of one of its contracts with the Barclays Premier League in England.

Estimates suggest that up to £20m could be wiped off the value of that increased deal, but the apparent inability to meet one of the demands of their present £13.5m annual contract raises further fears.

The SPL board has had updates from its financial and legal advisors and will see what develops over the next 48 hours.

And it could theoretically terminate its contract with the broadcaster as early as next week.

A television deal is vital to support the economy of Scottish top-flight football.

Several Premier League clubs are thought to be financially reliant on the TV money to keep themselves afloat.

Advertisers pay handsomely for shirt sponsorship and pitch-side displays on the basis that they will have their brand and products shown in hundreds of thousands of homes through television coverage.

Losing a television deal would not only leave the SPL as a whole the poorer but also make a substantial dent in many clubs' finances.

Setanta first won the rights to broadcast live SPL matches in competition with previous rights holder BBC Scotland in 2004.

However, it is unlikely that a free-to-air terrestrial broadcaster could now come close to matching the kind of money offered by Setanta for live coverage of Scotland's top-flight.

BBC Scotland has been broadcasting SPL match highlights on television and the internet while looking to buy up rights to live matches involving Scottish clubs in European competitions.

Hosts England crashed to a humiliating four-wicket loss to the Netherlands off the last ball of a thrilling opening to the World Twenty20 at a rainy Lord's.

Ravi Bopara (46) and Luke Wright (71) put on 100 but England struggled for boundaries and finished on 162-5.

Tom de Grooth smashed 49 and Peter Borren 30 as the minnows attacked.

The Dutch needed seven off the last over and two off the final ball and sealed a stunning win thanks to an overthrow from bowler Stuart Broad.

The defeat leaves England in danger of failing to qualify from their three-team group.

Robbie Keane warns Ireland of danger posed by Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov might not have had much impact in Manchester’s United tame surrender against Barcelona in the Champions League final, but his shadow looms large over Ireland’s World Cup aspirations. It is a presence of which Robbie Keane is well aware.

Keane spent two years partnering Berbatov in attack with Tottenham Hotspur before a parting of the ways last summer. Although the Ireland captain is back at White Hart Lane, after a brief spell with Liverpool, he remains wary of his former team-mate, however enigmatic he has been at Old Trafford.

It is Berbatov who represents the biggest threat to Ireland when he plays for Bulgaria in the World Cup qualifying match in Sofia this evening. “Of course, he is very dangerous,” Keane, 28, said. “He is a fantastic player.

“I had the privilege to play with him at Tottenham and he is a massive danger to us, but Bulgaria also have other players who are just as important to their team. He has got quality, he is good on the ball, he’s great in the air, he can score goals, so we will have to be ready for him.”

Giovanni Trapattoni will send his Republic of Ireland team into World Cup battle in Bulgaria tomorrow night intent only on victory.

However, the wily Italian admits after the game, he might be happy with a draw as Ireland look to keep the chasing pack at bay in Group 8.

Victory at the Vassil Levski Stadium would send the visitors to the top of the pile, ahead of current leaders and reigning champions Italy.

It would also leave the Bulgarians, perhaps the Republic's closest challengers for the runners-up spot when the group was drawn, eight points adrift with only a single game in hand.

However, while Trapattoni will be targeting all three points, he knows a draw would not be the worst result for his team.

He said: 'I go on to the pitch with my team and I hope to win. I don't think about losing.

'Every coach thinks about winning - afterwards, you think maybe a draw is a good result.

'This game will be for us a very important and a difficult game. I am conscious how important it is to finish this long season with a positive result.'

That has largely been the way since Trapattoni took charge last year - his side is unbeaten in six competitive games and has tasted defeat only once in his 11 outings to date.

That resilience and the confidence it has helped to breed were major factors in Italy in April when skipper Robbie Keane's late equaliser denied the Marcelo Lippi's 10 men victory and maintained Ireland's bid for qualification.

However, the Italian has been in the game long enough to know how quickly things can change in football, and he saw enough from Bulgaria at Croke Park in March, when Kevin Kilbane's own goal handed them a deserved point, to expect a much tougher test this time around.

As if to illustrate the point, opposite number Stanimir Stoilov will this time be able to call upon Dimitar Berbatov, Martin Petrov and Valeri Bojinov, all of whom were injured for the game in Dublin.

Trapattoni said: 'It's is absolutely important to concentrate for an hour and 50 minutes.

'We know the famous Bulgaria players, they know the little details, they are clever they are also creative, so I repeat, my players, we need to be 100% concentrated always.

'The have back players like Berbatov and Petrov who were missing in the last game. We know them, they are famous, they play in England.

'We have respect for those two players.'

England v Kazakhstan: England's presence signals Kazakhs' move from Borat to Beckham

It is a long time since David Beckham and the boys sat in a changing room like this: green plastic chairs, peeling paint, antique treatment tables, iron radiators from another age and nowhere to hang an Armani shirt.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01417/david_beckham_1417964c.jpg

Soviet minimalism is alive and well in Borat country.

The Ortalky Tsentralny Stadium is a decaying monument to the fading Soviet ideal of sport for all. In its heyday 50 years ago it was doubtless a temple to the utilitarian model beloved of the Eastern Bloc that made sport an integral and often militarised feature of the good life.

In these post-socialist days of rampant individualism and crushing uncertainty the communal aspects of civic life are on the back burner in Kazakhstan, along with upkeep of an ageing national arena.

The sand pit that sits at one end of the running track beneath the main stand looks as if it has not seen a rake since Kazakhstan kissed goodbye to a command economy 18 years ago. The grass was six inches long in some places on Thursday, making up for the lack of dimension elsewhere on a pitch five yards shorter in length and width than the Premier League average.

The place is policed by old men dressed in jumble, who watch over a tiny retinue of officials and administrators holed up in musty rooms. Along the corridor stretching either side of the main entrance, the polar opposite of the Old Trafford megastore is laid out in claustrophobic order. Think High Street sports shop in Sixties Britain, table tennis balls piled high next to boxes of replacement studs and dartboards.

Attendances for the three domestic clubs that play here barely exceed the numbers reached by League Two teams in England. on Saturday Kazakhstan hits the jackpot. And, significantly, the world is looking on.

The arrival of the Premier League All Stars justifies the switch made by the Kazakhstan Football Federation eight years ago from the Asian Football Conference to Uefa. Football is seen as an agent for change, a sporting tool for raising the profile of a country with its foot on the accelerator as it lunges towards modernity.

Seventy-two hours in the company of Beckham buys a chunk of global airtime for a remote nation that few could locate on a map. A new stadium is under construction in the capital, Astana, a symbol of where this Silk Road backwater, the largest landlocked country on earth, sees itself going rather than where it has been.

Perception is a big issue for a ministry of tourism saddled with Borat as a cultural ambassador. Sacha Baron Cohen's cartoon depiction of Kazakh man as an inbred goat herd is an image nation-builders here are in a hurry to bury.

Cohen didn't even get the name right. Lean out of a window in Almaty and shout Murat or Bolat and a head might turn. 'Borat', the name, is no more a reality than the character. Kazakhs are a soft target for sophisticated mickey-takers in the West. The national pastime before football involved riders on horseback carting headless goats across a field in the manner of polo players. Instead of scoring a goal, players are required to carry the carcass around a pole at one end then drop it into a circle – the circle of justice, no less – at the other.

Buzkashi allowed the steppes warriors of south central Asia to demonstrate their masculinity and prowess in the saddle. A game can last days, another reason why television is not involved. The winners are more likely to neck a pint of fermented horse milk, a favourite tipple in these parts, in celebration rather than reach for the amber nectar. It is not hard to see how Borat made us laugh.

A stroll around Almaty is likely to confirm, not dispel prejudice. Nature bestowed on this city an Alpine backdrop the equal of Salzburg. The nomadic tribesman that once populated the region did not share the Hapsburg enthusiasm for Baroque splendour. Nor the Soviet architects that moved in subsequently.

The money presently being derived from Kazakhstan's mineral wealth and copious supplies of oil and gas cannot be spent quickly enough on raising Almaty above the mundane. Football plays its part in that realignment tonight.

The Premier League is a staple of the televised football diet in Almaty. The image of Ronaldo beckons people through the doors of the billiard hall along the road from the England team hotel. The No 7 shirt of Manchester United clothes the backs of teenage boys. Beckham, or more accurately, David, has monopolised interest on this trip, despite his waning influence in the Fabio Capello era.

Were Beckham to bill his hosts for the PR benefit the invoice would probably run to seven digits. The Kazakhs might even get a full half-hour of his time.

A five-goal mauling would be acceptable. Kazakhstan have already got the result they wanted. Beckham is here on legitimate business, marking, ministers hope, the beginning of the end for Borat.

Tiredness no excuse, says Capello

England boss Fabio Capello has brushed off suggestions that tiredness could affect his players during Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan.

Capello's squad has flown over 3,500 miles to the far eastern end of Europe for the Group Six game after a tough domestic season for many players.

"It's a long trip but we must remember that they played well in first half at Wembley," Capello told Radio Five Live.

"This is the problem, not the jet-lag and the flight."

England defeated Kazakhstan 5-1 at Wembley back in October and are huge favourites to continue their 100% winning run in World Cup qualifying against the minnows.

But Capello has warned his players and the England fans that they may need to exercise a degree of patience during the tie.

"It will not be an easy game," he said.

"I watched the last two games Kazakhstan played. They started well, pressing and running a lot and they had good positions on the pitch and were not easy to score against.

"But sometimes when you run and press a lot by the end of the game the focus is not the same as at the start."

This view is underlined by Kazakhstan's result against England last autumn where Rio Ferdinand's 52nd-minute goal broke the deadlock and three goals in the last 15 minutes gave the scoreline a more comfortable look.

And in their last qualifier, at home to Belarus on 1 April, Kazakhstan led 1-0 at half-time, but conceded five second-half goals to lose 5-1.

England return from Kazakhstan to take on the bottom side in their group, Andorra, on Wednesday.

"These next two games are very important for us. It is a big step to the World Cup in South Africa if we win these two games," Capello added.

England captain John Terry is expecting a tough game in Almaty and warned that a victory is not a formality.

"It's going to a difficult game," he told Radio Five Live. "They started the game well at Wembley and made it difficult for us in the first half.

"But we find as a county that wherever we go everyone raises their game and Kazakhstan are going to be no different.

"We know they're going to press us early on, but if we can come away with three points it will put us in a great position in the group.

"The key is to be organised and keep our concentration. If we can do that, we should get the right result."

Liverpool have already seen long-term target Gareth Barry sign for Manchester City for £12m and there are concerns that the financial situation could lead to them missing out on other high-profile targets.

"If Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City are after the same players as Liverpool it's going to be extremely difficult," said Lawrenson.

"We're already hearing that Chelsea have a new manager and Abramovich might bankroll Ancelotti with money to spend, Manchester United will be buying players, Arsenal will also be in the market and Man City will be busier than anyone.

"The great problem is that it looks at the moment as if Liverpool are going to have to sell quite a few players just to get the two or three very high profile match-winners in."

Xabi Alonso - who played a significant role in the side last season - has already been touted as a target for both Real Madrid and Manchester City, whilst Javier Mascherano is reportedly on Barcelona's wish list.

Liverpool finished second in the Premier League this season with 86 points, their best total since winning the title in 1988, and a 10-point improvement on the 2007-08 season.

"As the Premier League runners-up, they have Champions League football to offer to potential targets, and all the history and passion that goes with the badge remains a strong draw," says BBC sports news correspondent Gordon Farquhar.

"There's also a healthy revenue stream and (manager) Rafa Benitez surely wouldn't be staying if he thought there was no money to spend.

"However, there must be a feeling that until the re-financing issue is resolved, the directors aren't going to want to go hell for leather at the transfer market with cash falling out of their pockets."

Prior to the takeover by Hicks and Gillett, Liverpool operated with a much smaller level of debt.

But in borrowing money to finance their purchase the American duo considerably increased the sums owed - roughly £250m themselves and £100m attached to the club - at a time which coincided with a seismic downturn in global financial conditions.

"The club are separate to a degree from the biggest part of the risk, but of course, they're still linked," says Farquhar.

"The club's directors say they're confident they will be able to either re-negotiate the deadline, or re-finance by 24 July, and privately may well think the auditors have gone a bit over the top."

Hicks and Gillett have been scouring the globe to find investors for the club but Rogan Taylor, creator of Share Liverpool FC, a group aimed at recruiting fans to purchase the club, believes the only way Liverpool can move forward is if they are taken over by fresh investors.

"There's no way anybody is going to lend the Americans that kind of money when the club is in such deep debt," Taylor told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I expect in various parts of the world, people are looking quite closely at the situation and I wouldn't be surprised if there's some marked changes.

"Share Liverpool FC are keen to be involved and we can probably raise between £25m and £45m, so we need to come in with a major partner.

"It is an opportunity though. Let's get rid of these American no-marks and get on with life."

Hicks and Gillett have become increasingly unpopular among Reds fans since they took the club over in March last year, drawing criticism for their treatment of Benitez and their financial management of the club.

Plans for a proposed new 60,000-seat stadium have undergone two re-designs already.

In their accounts, Hicks and Gillett say they are "committed to building a new stadium and actively seeking funding to complete the project".

But they admit that "the opening of the new stadium will be delayed until 2012".

Tonge seeks bigger role at Stoke

Midfielder Michael Tonge is prepared to stay with Stoke City and challenge for a first-team place next season.

The 25-year-old signed from Sheffield United for £2m in September but played just twice for the Potters in 2009.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's been frustrating because I've not played as much as I would have liked.

"But I'm looking forward to next season. Everyone starts on a level playing field again, and hopefully I can play myself into the team."

Tonge made just two starts all season - against Portsmouth in the Premier League in October, and in the FA Cup defeat to Hartlepool in January.

Despite his continued absence from the first team, Tonge remains convinced that he made the right move to join Stoke, and believes he can play a more important role for them in their second season in the Premier League.

"Even though I've not played as much as I would have liked, I've really enjoyed it. I've settled in really well and everyone at the club has made me feel really welcome.

"When you got to a new club, you want to prove that you're good enough. I've got no thoughts of leaving. I just want to play a bigger part than I did last season.

"I want to try and impress the manager in the pre-season games. The lads that have played the majority of the season will be in a strong position.

"You just want to start the season flying, because everyone will be coming back a little bit rusty and no one's got any sort of form. If you hit form early doors, you can make a statement for starting."

Why Is Arsenal Player Giving Us Transfer Tips?

Last summer I was hoping Sir Alex Ferguson was going to show interest in Andrei Arshavin. It never happened. It was fairly disappointing when Arsene Wenger snapped the talented Russian up during the January transfer window.

I imagine most reds are a fan of his because aside from his great talent alone, he did put four goals past the dippers as time starting running out for them towards the end of last season. What a match.

It seems like Arshavin is keen to feature more heavily in our good books though, passing on a good transfer tip to our manager.

Arshavin reckons that we should look at replacing Edwin Van der Sar with Russia’s number one, Igor Akinfeev. He has been linked with the other clubs in the top four and no doubt Guus Hiddink has let the Chelsea camp know about him.

“Given that Van der Sar will not be around forever, Ferguson is most in need of a goalkeeper,” said Arshavin. “I therefore advise him to sign Akinfeev.”

It does beg the question of why he would want to strengthen the squad of a supposed rival though? Arshavin, shhhhhhhhush.

See the 23-year-old keeper in action…

lol there was a vid but its not working lol.

Arsene Wenger is ready to beef up his Arsenal midfield with a sensational summer swoop for Barcelona giant Yaya Toure, reports claim.

Wenger is keen to team up La Liga and Champions League winner Yaya with his brother, Kolo, at the Emirates Stadium and is ready to offer the Catalan giants £12million in a move that will win over Gunners fans who have questioned the Frenchman's transfer policy.

Supporters are keen for Wenger to add steel to a lightweight midfield and 25-year-old Yaya, who had a trial at Arsenal in 2005 but failed to seal a permanent move and joined Olympiacos, fits the bill.

Yaya said: "It's true that it would be great to play for a big club with my brother. That would be fantastic but you never know."

That would be perfect for Arsenals defence.

Wenger: Fantastic Arsenal doesn't need to sell best players

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says the club's sound finances means he doesn't need to sell any of his players.

He said: "We do not have to sell because we have a balanced budget. I believe that what is important at this stage is to keep the players you have.

"People think it is a disaster to get to the semi-finals of the Champions League and the FA Cup while finishing fourth. OK, you can do better but if that is a disaster, then the future of the club is very promising.

"Legacy is about leaving the club in every aspect that is important in a good situation. It means you leave a good squad with good young players, a good financial situation and a good structure.

"What is the most important is that the club continues to improve and the state of our club is fantastic."

Bentley bait for Spurs Ash bid

HARRY REDKNAPP has offered David Bentley plus £8million for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill this week sold Gareth Barry to Manchester City.

And he will be desperate to hold on to Young, 23, who is also a top target for Chelsea.

Tottenham chief Redknapp admitted he was priced out of buying midfielder Barry, who signed for City in a £12m switch.

Yet it has not stopped him going back for Young - although he knows Chelsea could offer the PFA Young Player of the Year far higher wages than Spurs could afford.

Winger Bentley, 24, has had a nightmare since his £15m switch from Blackburn last summer, failing to hold down a first-team spot and losing his place in the England squad.

http://www.eatsleepsport.com/football/chelsea-ready-for-40m-swoop-909756.html

Chelsea are ready to launch a £40million bid for Valencia striker David Villa in the hope it will be enough to secure a deal.

Roman Abramovich looks set to go on a major transfer spree this summer after appointing Carlo Ancelotti as the club's new manager and Villa is high on the wanted list.

The Blues are already thought to have failed with one bid of £37.5million for the Spain international and now they hope the improved bid will tempt los Che into cashing in.

Real Madrid are also said to be in the hunt and that could scupper Chelsea's hopes if the 27-year-old would prefer to stay in Spain.

Ohh looking promoising 40m offer, Chelsea could be even more dangerous. If they get him i think they will be massive title contenders.

Madrid target Man Utd friendship

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez promises that he will not fall out with Manchester United over his pursuit of Cristano Ronaldo.

Perez, who returned to the role he held between 2000 and 2006 on 1 June, has publicly targeted the forward.

But after United's angry response to Madrid's approach last summer, he told The Times that he will take more care.

"If I had to choose between the friendship with United and Ronaldo, I would choose the friendship," he said.

"Plus, I have never said that Cristiano will arrive in June. That is an arrogant and false statement.

"I shall be talking with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill to build bridges."

Fifa rejected a complaint from United last June that Real's overtures amounted to an illegal approach, but the La Liga side were warned against inducing the player to breach his contract in the future.

It is unlikely that the Old Trafford hierarchy will be impressed with Perez's claim that the Spanish club could exploit a clause in the 24-year-old's contract which runs until 2012.

"From what I hear, there is an agreement between the player and his club," he said.

"If one day there is a chance of him playing for Real Madrid, that would be an honour for us."

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson denied in December that there was any secret arrangement to sell Ronaldo at the end of the season.

"Do you think I would enter into a contract with that mob? No chance. I would not sell them a virus," he said.

"Sometimes I get really annoyed with them. But we know their game. I think we should play ours and ignore them."

After David Beckham's switch in 2003, the clubs did successfully negotiate left-back Gabriel Heinze's move to the Bernabeu in 2007, after United disputed his own claim of a gentleman's agreement that would allow him to sign for Liverpool.

Perez's previous reign coincided with the Galactico era that brought Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Luis Figo and David Beckham to the club.

In less than a week in charge, he has already spoken of his admiration of AC Milan's Kaka, Valencia's David Villa and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery.

Manuel Pellegrini has been appointed manager in place of Juande Ramos after being lured from Villarreal.

If you hit form early doors, you can make a statement for starting.

Barca linked with Reds ace

Barcelona are reported to be lining up a £20million swoop for Javier Mascherano as Liverpool could be forced to cash in on key players.

Friday's revelations that Liverpool's parent company, Kop Football Holdings, lost £42.6m in the year to August 2008, has sparked fears that Rafa Benitez may have to lose some of his star names.

European Champions Barca are on the look out for a new midfielder as they will lose both Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita for almost two months when they go on African Nations Cup duty and boss Pep Guardiola wants to draft in Mascherano as a replacement.

Mascherano still has three years to run on his contract at Anfield but that will stand for nothing if Barca come in and make a huge offer for the Argentina ace.

Liverpool also fear for the future of fellow midfielder Xabi Alonso as reports in Spain refuse to go away suggesting that Real Madrid are lining up a £24million bid.

No Everton Deal For Stephane M'Bia - Reports
The club deny that a deal for the Cameroonian has already been done...

Everton have dismissed rumours that they are about to enter negotiations with Rennes midfielder Stephane M'Bia, after it was rumoured that the midfielder was on his way to the Premier League.

The Cameroon midfielder was said to be the subject of much interest from the Toffees yesterday, but the Liverpudlian club have rejected the rumours.

Everton boss David Moyes was reportedly chasing the midfielder last summer, but could not agree a fee in time for the player and the interest was dropped.

M'Bia was apparently keen on a move to Goodison Park, but the Ligue 1 club would not allow him to leave unless their valuation was met.

Now, the Toffees have rejected all speculation that they are set to enter negotiations again with the 23-year-old.

At the moment, the Cameroon international is still unsure over what his future holds.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, M'Bia said, "I had an agreement to leave at the end of the season if all parties are happy, so I can’t say yet what will happen.

"There are many good clubs linked according to the press so let’s wait and see."

The midfielder signed a new deal with the French club last season and his new contract included a €6.7 million release clause.

The 23-year-old has been at Rennes for his entire career, joining the club in 2004 and being promoted to the first team.

He has since made 124 league appearances for the club, scoring seven times.

Wenger looking to bolster defence

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he wants to improve his side's defence during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners conceded 37 goals as they finished fourth in the Premier League in 2008/09, 18 points behind champions Manchester United.

And Wenger - who is in Beijing while evaluating Chinese players - recognises his young team need to improve at the back if they are to end a four-year trophy drought.

"The last season was very interesting because we had a sloppy start and then we became stronger and stronger," said the Frenchman.

"It has been interesting as well because it is a very young team, but they have been tested mentally.

"The defensive record, that is an area that we want to work on and that we want to improve."

Dzeko favours Gunners switch

Arsenal and Manchester City have made offers for Wolfsburg's Eden Dzeko but the striker would only consider a move to the Gunners.

Dzeko was one of the hottest strikers in Europe last season as his 26 goals in 32 appearances helped Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title and both Arsenal and City have made an approach, according to his agent, Irfan Red?epagi.

However, despite their riches a move to City would be out of the question as the player wants to play in the Champions League next season, something he could do with Wolfsburg and the Gunners.

"It is not realistic for Dzeko who is a leading player in Germany and due to perform in the Champions League to opt for an average club like Manchester City," Red?epagi revealed. "Arsenal is the other case. We will discuss their offer seriously.

"I will talk over the weekend with Eden and we will see what is best for him. On Monday it is back to the negotiations with Wolfsburg."

Well i guess hes not just a money grabber wanting to go to man city then prefering good football over cash.
Though im not sure where he will fit in Arsenal already have 6 strikers.

Good man though wants to play champions league football not just money.

Dossena ready to leave

Andrea Dossena has been told by manager Rafael Benitez he will be allowed to leave if Liverpool receive the right offer.
The Italian has lost out to Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua in the race to make the Anfield left-back slot his and has openly expressed a desire to quit Merseyside to move to Serie A giants Juventus.

"I have talked to [Rafael] Benitez. He is a wonderful person and has understood my problem," Dossena told Tuttosport.

"He told me that if they receive an offer that satisfies both the club and me, he will facilitate my transfer. I would run to Juve. They showed interest in me last year, but then Liverpool stepped in and wrapped things up in less than an hour.

"In England they play continuously and the hardest training session does not last more than 40 minutes, but I need to train longer.

"Now I truly hope to join Juve and start a new life."

Barcelona plan to capitalise on the financial problems at Liverpool with a £20m raid for Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano.

The Reds are also set to miss out on their top summer target - Valencia's Spanish midfielder David Silva - because of the budget constraints imposed on manager Rafael Benitez, with Real Madrid favourites to land the player.

One man who appears to be on his way out of Anfield is Italian defender Andrea Dossena, who is a target for Juventus.

Stoke are set to join the race to sign Manchester City defender Richard Dunne, who is also being tracked by Tottenham.

West Ham have targeted full-backs Rennes' France international Rod Fanni and Middlesbrough's Matthew Bates, as replacements for Lucas Neill, who has rejected a new one-year deal at Upton Park.

Like i said they will struggle, at least they dont have to sell players like viera henry etc..
