as for torres hes never really like someone i want to watch mainly on the pitch.

Along with gerrard to.

Arsenal have nobody like Torres, hence their downfall..

When they had Henry it was win win with amazing goals, but nobody has replaced Henry since he left.. Dark times for Arsenal and even Tottenham are looking to overtake them..

Torres is better than Henry on every level.. But yeah a new Henry type player is needed at Arsenal, a natural striker like Torres, Owen, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Henry would help Arsenal big time..

Not all Arsenal fans are happy with their manager and it's easy to know why, past 5 years says it all.

Im very happy with him, hes had such a limited budget had to sell lots of stars that were vital parts to the team.

Good to see this year they have given him a lot to spend.

I think lack of money could affect liverpool.

Gunners reward Ramsey
Welsh teenager puts pen-to-paper on new contract

Arsenal have announced that Wales international Aaron Ramsey has signed a long-term contract extension with the club.

The Gunners won the race for the 18-year-old's signature last summer, securing his services from Cardiff City for £5million.

Ramsey made 22 appearances in all competitions during his debut season at Emirates Stadium, netting one goal in the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal have now opted to tie the midfielder down on new terms, much to the delight of manager Arsene Wenger.

Wenger told the club's official website: "We're delighted that Aaron has signed a new long-term contract.

"He made a very good contribution in his first season and he showed that he is a very intelligent player with great quality.

"He is still only 18 and we're really looking forward to seeing him develop with us in the forthcoming years."

Lyon Confirm Real Madrid Deal For Karim Benzema

Just hours after denying that a deal had been agreed with Real Madrid for Karim Benzema, Olympique Lyon have confirmed that a deal has in fact been done.

A statement on the offiical Lyon website announces that the striker will cost Madrid €35 million initially and that with performance related bonuses the deal could rise to €41 million.

The message also explains the situation with Benzema and that he asked the president if he could move to Madrid sooner than expected.

"Some days ago, Karim Benzema informed president Jean Michel Aulas of his wish to join Real Madrid, always his preferred club after OL, sooner than he expected," read the statement.

"The player wished to seize the chance that Real Madrid offered to be one of the major elements in a team that has world-wide players.

"Olympique Lyon accepted the decision of Karim Benzema and negotiated the conditions for a transfer that satisfied both parties.

"The club wishes Karim every success with Real Madrid, which, in pursuit of its ambitious plans on the pitch, benefits from advantages in legislation (e.g. sponsoring and online betting with Bwin), taxation (more favourable tax status for players abroad) and property ownership (a privately-owned, value-generating stadium) that are incomparable with the situation currently prevailing in French professional sports."

Benzema will be the fourth signing of the summer for Madrid, behind Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Albiol.

Real to seal Benzema signing

Lyon have confirmed that striker Karim Benzema is set to complete a move to Real Madrid for an initial fee of 35million euros.

The 21-year-old had initially stated his intent to stay put with the French club for another season, but will now seal a switch to the Bernabeu which could eventually be worth 41million euros to Lyon.

A statement on the French club's official website read:"A few days ago Karim Benzema informed president Jean Michel Aulas of his wish to join Real Madrid as soon as possible.

"The player wished to seize the opportunity offered to him by Real Madrid to be one of the major elements of its new ambitious policy, centred around some of the world's best players.

"Lyon accepted the decision of Karim Benzema and negotiated the conditions of a transfer which bring satisfaction to all parties.

"The club wishes for Karim the greatest success with Real Madrid."

Wolverhampton have boosted their squad today, by securing the services of highly-rated young midfielder Andrew Surman from beleaguered and bankrupt League One outfit Southampton.

Sunderland are keeping tabs on Chilean international striker Humberto Suazo.

Discussions between Chelsea and Inter Milan over a possible switch to Italy for defender Ricardo Carvalho and midfielder Deco have collapsed. The Blues value the pair at £12m while the Nerazzurri are unwilling to go beyond £6m.

Barcelona will turn their attentions to prising midfielder Cesc Fabregas away from Arsenal after learning that previous target Franck Ribery would prefer to leave Bayern Munich for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are delaying a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso until a sell-on clause with the midfielder's former club Real Sociedad expires later in July.

Having been frustrated in their pursuit of Felipe Melo, Arsenal will go head to head with Tottenham for the signature of Marseille midfielder Loik Cana.

Michael Owen is holding out for offers from Aston Villa and Everton as his Newcastle United contract comes to an end today.

Brazilian forward Jo will return to Everton on loan next season, with Manchester City boss Mark Hughes unable to promise him a regular first-team place.

Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Arsenal's Philippe Senderos as well as fellow defenders Sylvain Distin of Portsmouth and David Wheater of Middlesbrough.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has said that AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all enquired about the possibility of him leaving Old Trafford but, despite his wife's eagerness to move away from England, he is determined to stay put.

England coach Fabio Capello has told his scouts to monitor Sylvan Ebanks-Blake once the new Premier League season gets under way to see if the Wolves striker is ready for the step up to international football.

Manchester City will recruit Endemol, the company behind reality TV series Big Brother, to expand their global brand.

Problem is, Pre season training has started today, so teams want to get started with their new players, They then have 2 full months or 8 weeks of training with that team, don't wanna come in a week before, because usually they will be benched for about 3 weeks until they get used to the play like Arshavin was.

They should start early.

Promoted as "The Greatest Show On Earth", the Premier League is the world's most popular and most watched sporting league, followed worldwide by over half a billion people in 202 countries.

The Premier League has since become the world's most watched sporting league. It is the world's most lucrative football league, with combined club revenues of £1.93 billion ($3.15bn) in 2007–08. Werder Bremen’s Naldo linked with Arsenal
02.07.09 | Andrew Slevison

Werder Bremen defender Naldo has been closely linked with a move to Arsenal.

The 26-year old Brazilian centre-back may find himself at a new club next season according to Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.

"Naldo is a great athlete and could do well at the right club, unfortunately he doesn't fit the direction we're planning to move in any longer," Schaaf explained to a club insider.

"We expect to move him for somewhere in the region of €10 million, and English side Arsenal is as of now the most likely destination."

Real Madrid are set to launch a transfer offensive for Inter defender Maicon, according to his agent Antonio Caliendo, Goal.com can exclusively reveal.

The Nerazzurri stopper has been making noises over his future, and reports in Italy have suggested he wants a better deal at the San Siro. Real Madrid have reportedly shown an interest in the Brazilian international, and Caliendo has told Goal.com that he expects that desire to be taken further.

"Now that Real Madrid have completed their attacking department, I think they will make a charge for Maicon," the agent told Goal.com.

"We are waiting for Real Madrid. I can foresee a transfer assault from them."

Inter director Ernesto Paolillo recently revealed that the club would be sitting down with Maicon in order to discuss his future.

http://goal.com/en/news/596/exclusive/2009/07/02/1359339/exclusive-i-expect-real-madrid-to-launch-transfer-assault-on

Maicon is valued at over 20 million.... How much money do Real have? And I guess this means that they won't be going in for Arbeloa either, they already have Ramos at right back, if they sign Maicon he will be their first choice right back, so unless Ramos goes Arbeloa would be 3rd choice.

Hertha Berlin are reportedly making eyes at Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, who is also thought to be on Everton's radar.

Real Madrid are reportedly hoping to convince Alvaro Negredo to stay on at the club despite Karim Benzema's arrival; meanwhile, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is mulling over offers from England, Germany and Turkey.

Still in Germany, Franck Ribery has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Bayern Munich. It seems like only a matter of time before he leaves Bavaria...

Everton have allegedly told Manchester City to come back with a serious bid for Joleon Lescott. The Sky Blues may have to fork out around £20 million for the England defender.

Birmingham are aiming to land another player with Arsenal ties, as reports suggest that a loan deal for Armand Traore is on the cards.

Although Karim Benzema is currently Real Madrid's primary target, the Spanish press are predicting ahead: Liverpool pair Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa will be followed by Valencia ace David Silva.

Sunderland are reportedly ready to swipe winger Stephen Hunt from Championship outfit Reading.

Wenger Interview: Chamakh may sign if Ade leaves

Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger gave an exclusive interview to French radio station RMC earlier this evening.

Some of the questions posed to him were very interesting, and as you’ll see below, so are his answers.

Thanks to Vince from ASCFR for translating these.

Will there be a lot of movement at Arsenal this summer?
We’ll start with the same players. We’ve got a policy “anti-Real”. We build on the long term, a bit like Barca. We don’t need a lot of signings, only if there’s players leaving.

Miguel Veloso: Villa Join 4-Way Chase for £13M Sporting Star with Arsenal, Spurs & Man City

Miguel Veloso is set to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer despite recent comments made by the midfielder. At least four Premier League clubs are reported to be chasing the £13m man. The versatile star was limited to just 21 League appearances last season (15 starts) and is finally set to leave his homeland after being continually linked with moves abroad in recent seasons.

The player himself told the Portuguese press, “I want to play and be a champion for Sporting.”However, he left the door open to a move to the Premier League when he said, “I am fine where I am, but I have the dream to play abroad and that is normal in every young player.”

Bolton made a move to sign the Portuguese star back in January which was confirmed by the midfielder’s agent Paulo Barbosa. When asked if Bolton were likely to sign the player, he told Setanta.com, “No, no it is not true. Bolton, no.”

“It is true they were interested in January but Sporting refused an offer for €12 million.

When asked about Arsenal and Man City’s continued interest, Barbosa interestingly revealed, “We will see, we will see soon.”

Barbosa had confirmed that the Premier League was his most likely destination when he revealed, “England is his first choice, and he already speaks good English. Everything is possible at the moment.”

Man City and both North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal had been strongly linked to the defender come defensive midfielder although Aston Villa’s interest is new but makes perfect sense now Gareth Barry has left the club and Martin Laursen has retired as Veloso is adept at both of those player’s roles.

Milan's Lawyer Pessimistic About Deal For Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor
The Rossoneri's transfer consultant and lawyer has played down the possibility of seeing Adebayor at the San Siro...

Milan lawyer and transfer consultant Leandro Cantamessa is not optimistic about signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal or Real Madrid's Huntelaar, but the club seems keen on Sevilla ace Luis Fabiano.

The search for a striker continues in Milan after the Edin Dzeko attempt failed. Earlier reports suggest Milan still wanted the Wolfsburg striker, but those links appear to be dead as Cantamessa hinted at Fabiano as first choice, and there was no mention of Dzeko.

"Is the deal for Luis Fabiano going well? It's possible, even though many hypothesised transfers don't always end up being concluded," Canatmessa told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

"I don't know about Huntelaar, while Adebayor is a name which does not make me enthusiastic. In any case Galliani is the one who deals with these things and you should ask him."

Andrea Pirlo has been in Chelsea's sights following Carlo Ancelotti's move there, but it seems the Italian will be staying at the San Siro.

"I would only sell Pirlo if I had the guarantee of finding a direct replacement as he is a very good player," concluded the lawyer.

Arsenal winger Jonas Rasmussen waiting for Viborg offer

Arsenal winger Jonas Rasmussen is expected to sign with Viborg.

The Dane was released by Arsenal this week and said: “Right now I’m just waiting for some clarification. I have been in Viborg for two trials and then on a tour in Switzerland with Young Boys, and received an offer from another Swiss club.

"My first priority is, however, to return to Denmark. Right now I await the situation in Viborg and keep options open in Switzerland.”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/arsenal/5719104/Arsenal-chief-executive-Ivan-Gazidis-urges-Premier-League-to-look-at-salary-cap.html

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis urges Premier League to look at salary cap
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis believes the Premier League should consider a salary cap and other measures aimed at achieving financial stability.

As Manchester City dominate the summer's transfer headlines with reports of huge fees and wages being offered for top stars, Gazidis has called for a greater responsibility from top-flight clubs.

"I think it is worth our while to investigate whether there are elements of the salary cap system, which they have in US NFL and baseball (sic), which would benefit football," Gazidis told The Guardian.

"Clubs have a duty to provide more stability in our business models and some form of wage restraint is one element worth looking at.

"There are many ways in which it could work."

Gazidis joined Arsenal last year after working as the deputy commissioner of Major League Soccer, which employs a salary cap.

He is part of a European clubs' association working group considering improvements to the financial running of football, and highlighted Germany's Bundesliga which has tight restrictions on the debts clubs can carry.

Manchester United and Liverpool both have huge debts to sustain, although that has not stopped them from spending big in the transfer market on the likes of Glen Johnson and Antonio Valencia.

Arsenal, on the other hand, do not have the same spending power as their nearest Premier League rivals, but Gazidis is confident the club's business plan will ensure long-term success in the future.

"The club is fundamentally strong," he said.

"I can say with confidence that provided we don't do foolish things, this will be one of the leading clubs in the world this year, five years from now and 20 years from now.

"This is not some experiment to see how successful we can be over the next couple of years, and who knows where we will be after that. This is a good, sustainable business."

Michael Owen at the Man Utd training ground having a fitness test..

He could sign for Man Utd later today!

Good for Man Utd as he is a free signing.

Downside is that his best days are behind him.

Good for Owen as it could open the door for England..

Downside for Owen is that he is not Man Utd's first choice striker..

Michael Owen is undergoing a medical at Bridgewater Hospital ahead of a proposed free transfer to Premier League champions Manchester United.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker is out of contract at Newcastle and looks set to be Man Utd's second summer signing after Antonio Valencia.

Owen, 29, has been linked with Everton, Aston Villa, Stoke and Hull but now looks set for the Old Trafford club.

If all goes well, he will return to the training ground to sign his contract.

Owen had checks on an old knee injury in London on Thursday and is undergoing a full medical at the private Bridgewater Hospital.

The England striker has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, suffering with groin, ankle, thigh, hernia, metatarsal and knee ligament problems.

The 2001 European footballer of the year has dropped out of the England squad, but a potential move to the Premier League champions would give Owen the chance to revitalise his career, even it involved accepting a lower basic salary package.

Gibbs signs new long-term contract

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that England Under-21 international Kieran Gibbs has signed a new long-term contract extension with the Club.

Lambeth-born Kieran shot to prominence during the FA Youth Cup run to the Semi-Final in 2007. His performances earned him an appearance in the 2007/08 pre-season fixture against Barnet and, later, a start against Italian giants Inter Milan in the inaugural Emirates Cup in July 2007.

Gibbs made his full First Team debut the following season during the 2007/08 campaign, in the Carling Cup Fourth Round victory at Sheffield United in October 2007.

Kieran, who can operate as a left-back or in midfield, was a revelation last season, making 21 First Team appearances, including eight in the Premier League and four in the UEFA Champions League.

His performances during last season earned Kieran, still only 19, with a place in the England Under-21s squad, which then led to him becoming a regular in this summer’s UEFA Under-21 Championships in Sweden, helping Stuart Pearce’s England team reach the Final of the competition.

Manager Arsène Wenger said: “Kieran made such a great impact last season and the progress he made throughout the year was fantastic. Kieran is an intelligent player with huge quality and he proved last season with his performances that he has great potential. We’re delighted that Kieran has committed his future to Arsenal and we’re all excited to watch his future development at the Club.”

Everyone at the Club is looking forward to Kieran’s continued contribution and development with Arsenal for a long time to come.

Kieran joins Theo Walcott, Lukasz Fabianski, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, who have all signed new long-term extensions with the Club in the close season.

The Morocco striker, also tracked by Tottenham and Aston Villa, is seen by Arsene Wenger as a possible replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor, although the manager remains confident his Togo forward will stay at Arsenal

Real Madrid have reportedly offered Alvaro Negredo and cash to Liverpool in exchange for midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool custodian Pepe Reina has declared that only a very large sum of money will tempt the club to sell any player, as coach Rafa Benitez wants to hang onto his current squad.

Manchester City are not a side who are afraid of rejection. According to reports, they are preparing to table a third bid for Chelsea's John Terry.

Liverpool have identified Gokhan Inler has a possible replacement for either Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, one of which looks likely to leave Anfield this summer.

But Rafa Benitez is reluctant to meet Udinese's asking price of £18m (€21m).

Everton are ready to make a double swoop. Manager David Moyes has targeted Cardiff City's Joe Ledley and Fulham's Clint Dempsey, both of whom have rejected contract extensions from their respective clubs.

Arsenal's interest in Marouane Chamakh appears to have cooled after AC Milan ended their pursuit of Emmanuel Adebayor, and Sunderland could steal in with a £12m bid.

Real Madrid are said to be preparing to pounce for Chelsea and England player Ashley Cole after he rejected the offer of a new contract at Stamford Bridge due to a disagreement over wages.

Felipe Melo is dominating the headlines today! Fiorentina now claim that Arsenal are in the hunt, and will use Emmauel Eboue as a makeweight in order to ease negotiations!

Viola eye Melo-Eboue swap

Fiorentina suggest deal could be struck with Arsenal

Fiorentina have released a statement revealing they would be willing to negotiate the sale of Felipe Melo to Arsenal with Emmanuel Eboue involved in a potential swap deal.

Brazil international Melo had been strongly linked with the Gunners only to put pen-to-paper on a contract extension at the Viola on 30th June.

A buy-out clause, said to be €25million (£21.4m), has been included in Melo's new deal and recent reports have suggested Juventus could match that fee.

However, Fiorentina have claimed Arsenal remain the only side to have made an offer that comes close to activating the midfielder's sale clause.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino, in denying the transfer rumours of the past few hours, which sees Felipe Melo definitely at other clubs and reporting potential meetings to finalise the transfer of the player, underlines the following:

"In case the footballer has already reached an agreement with any club, the release clause fixed with the player himself is €25million. We would not contemplate any exchange, unless it is to the liking of Fiorentina.

"Arsenal is the only club to have come close to the sum established by the release clause.

"Fiorentina in turn proposed to the aforementioned club a reduction in the amount set by the release clause by including right-back (Emmanuel) Eboue in the deal."

Eboue, who signed for the Gunners from Beveren in 2005, has recently grown unsettled at Emirates Stadium and has not ruled out an exit.

eltic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has admitted that his personal life affected his performances last season.

"Never mind if you are a worker in a factory or you are a goalkeeper playing in front of thousands of people every week," he said.

"If you have personal problems, it will affect you at work."

However, he insisted that his form was not poor - it was just a case of the errors he did make being punished in a way they were not previously.

Boruc made a number of high-profile blunders, most famously when he mis-kicked a pass-back and allowed Northern Ireland to claim a 3-2 win over Poland.

The 29-year also found himself in trouble for breaching disciplinary rules for club and country following the break-up of his marriage.

"I don't accept all this talk that I'm in bad form," he said.
