Once Aurelio is fit again we've got a good defence.
RB: Johnson, Degen.
CB: Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Ayala.
LB: Aurelio, Insua.
I think we'll end up selling Degen this summer though, so might need to bring in a new right back and center back.
Edit-
And Arbeloa at RB.

Maybe so, but Carragher won't be much help because Liverpool will have young, energetic defenders to replace him within the next two years. This would result in Carragher being on the bench for most of the season, so he might make 20-25 Premier League appearances in a season by then and that is just not good enough.

YES NEWS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!
Arsenal in fight to sign £25m Huntelaar
Tuesday, 28 July 2009
The race to sign Dutch star Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hotted up last night.
Arsenal are ready to blow their north-London rivals Tottenham out of the water to land the 25-year-old, with Arsene Wenger keen to team him up with compatriot Robin van Persie.
The latest twist in the battle to win the signature of the Real Madrid striker came when AC Milan’s new boss Leonardo spelt out his intention to make a move for the player.
And with money to spend after the £65 million transfer of Kaka to Madrid, the Italians will be hard to compete with if they follow their interest through.
“If we find the chance to buy, Huntelaar is a player we would consider,” said Leonardo.
Last week Huntelaar — who has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu after the arrivals of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema — turned down a move to German side Stuttgart who’d agreed a fee of £15 million with the Spanish giants, who paid PSV Eindhoven £17 million in January.
Last night striker Samuel Eto’o completed his move from Barcelona to Inter Milan.
EDIT:
Apparently we have put in a bid of around 18m for him, 1m higher than tottenham.
But we will see what milan do..

28-07-2009, 12:43 AM
Which team would Arsenal knock down to 4th place then?
BTW, I think Chelsea have the Premier League in the bag this season.
30stone
28-07-2009, 12:46 AM
Imo, the weakest other than Arsenal right now would be Liverpool.
Utd seem to have enough options still..
But liverpool will lack depth this season, and with injuries too...
If we keep our players fit and injury free, like minimal in comparision to last season, i think we will guarantee 4th and shoot for 3rd.
pato and Huntelaar would be good at ac milan i can see that working

28-07-2009, 12:53 AM

We nearly won the season, Chelsea and Arsenal had no chance!
30stone
28-07-2009, 01:10 AM
This season will be different you have limited players the smallest team out of the top 4 i think.
1 good striker.. and if alonso leaves no one good enough to replace him.
I think you could struggle as much as Arsenal, but of course you wouldnt admit that.
Liverpool's awful defence will let them down

30stone

Henry of Arsenal
With just over two weeks until the Premier League season, the Rumour Mill is in overdrive and this week we start with a fanciful tale that could see a former Arsenal giant in a Gunners renaissance.
Henry's homecoming
Thierry Henry flew with Barcelona to play Spurs in London on the weekend, but the striker's mind was nowhere near the game - after the match he was spotted dining with none other than his old mate Arsene of the Arsenal.
So why would TH want to leave Barcelona for a return to London? With the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Camp Nou, Henry will be forced further out wide. This was the position in which he first came to prominence over a decade ago, before Wenger re-invented him as a striker… with rather good results.
You can be sure that over a bottle of nice claret, Arsene will have offered Thierry the genuine striker role he craves, and with the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor, it only takes a small leap of imagination to get to Henry's triumphant return to north London.

Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh has confirmed his interest in signing Newcastle forward Obafemi Martins.
Nigerian Martins was quoted on Monday as saying he was keen on a move to the German champions, and Veh admitted the 24-year-old is on his list of targets.
Veh said: "We have two tall strikers in Edin Dzeko and Grafite and they both play pretty much centrally.
"Therefore we are looking for a player who can combine with them both, who can come in from out wide."
Martins has expressed his desire to leave Tyneside, following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship, and said on Monday that Wolfsburg is his preferred destination.
"The Bundesliga will soon be the best league in the world," said Martins. "Therefore Wolfsburg excites me. I hope the transfer happens."
Martins was signed by former Magpies boss Glenn Roeder in 2006 and has scored 35 times for United.

Only player left from the Invincible season
I think if we don't secure hangeland he will call it off.
Portsmouth manager Paul Hart wants to bring former Liverpool full-back Steve Finnan and Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic to Fratton Park.
Hart sees Finnan as a replacement for Glen Johnson, and Kalinic as the man to fill Peter Crouch's shoes.
Finnan has been released from his contract by Spanish side Espanyol just one year after leaving Liverpool.
"Steve Finnan is one of many people we are interested in. As is Nikola Kalinic," said Hart.
"Steve is a quality player and if you saw my list you could probably see a few more quality players there."
Finnan, 33, started only three league games for Espanyol during an injury-plagued season with the Spanish club. The Republic of Ireland international was linked with a move to Tottenham or Hull in January but stayed to see out the season in Spain.
Kalinic, 21, could help fill the gap left by Crouch, who joined Tottenham on Monday for a fee believed to be in the region of £10m.
He has scored 32 goals in 59 league games for Hajduk Split, drawing comparisons with legendary Croatia striker Davor Suker, while national team boss Slaven Bilic describes him as "the future of Croatian football".

Personally I think it might happen if there is no buyer by the time their season starts. They're in limbo at the moment... no buyer, no new players, no manager, and players (i.e. Martins) declaring they're going to leave (after a 6-1 defeat to Leyton Orient).

- Liverpool right-back Alvaro Arbeloa says he has agreed a five-year deal with Real Madrid, adding: 'My transfer is almost complete.'
- After signing Crouch from Portsmouth, Huntelaar interest has cooled at white hart lane, Leaving just Arsenal in contention from the premiership (Hunelaar's preffered destination) and Ac Milan.

Spain international Alvaro Arbeloa is set to complete his move to Real Madrid from Liverpool after passing a medical.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Reds for £2.6m from Deportivo La Coruna in January 2007, will sign a five-year deal for a fee believed to be £3.5m.
Right-back Arbeloa had one year left on his Anfield contract so could have left for free next summer.
Dossena's move to Napoli is on hold now because of his wage demands. But if they both go through then that gives us around 7 million to spend, and we've still got a couple more players that will probably be leaving.

Why?
We only done badly last season due to massive amounts of injury.
We have a great side, and it does have depth its just with 4 - 9 injuries its obviously hard.
We have lost
Adebayor and Toure.
We will bring in hangeland and Huntelaar.
If we lose
Senderos and Eboue we will bring in one new player.
We also have youngsters ready to play this season.

Celtic v Dinamo Moscow
Celtic will be without midfielders Scott Brown and Barry Robson for their Champions league qualifying clash with Dinamo Moscow on Wednesday night.
The pair have recovered sufficiently from injuries to take part in training, but they will sit out the match along with defender Stephen McManus.
The Russian visitors enter the first leg of the third-round qualifier minus suspended captain Dmitry Khokhlov.
Otherwise, Dinamo coach Andrey Kobelev has a full squad to choose from.

BREAKING NEWS: OFFICIAL: Kolo Toure Leaves Arsenal And Signs Four-Year Deal At Manchester City
The Ivorian has completed his Eastlands switch today...
Manchester City have today made another sensational swoop in the summer transfer market, and signed centre-back Kolo Toure from Arsenal, with the club's official website confirming that the player has signed a four-year deal.
The defender's agent confirmed that Toure had chosen to swap the Emirates for Eastlands because he believed that playing for City would satisfy his keen ambitions for honours, as well as providing him with a new challenge at this stage of his career.
"Kolo's very ambitious at this time of his career," Saif Rubie told Sky Sports News. "He was very impressed with Sheikh Mansour and the chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak's vision for the club.
"For him, it's a new challenge. He's very excited with what Mark Hughes is doing at the football club. He sees himself as being a lynchpin for the team and wants to do everything to turn Manchester City into what they have to be."
Rubie also asserted that his client had not simply moved to Eastlands for the money, as more cynical observers had opined was the case.
"Believe you me, anybody that knows Kolo Toure knows that he's a man who plays and fights with his heart," the agent continued.
"He's has never done anything less than that in eight years of being at Arsenal. He's looking to give that to the team at Manchester City. Hopefully for years to come."

Hangeland in no hurry over new deal
Fulham defender Brede Hangeland says he is in no rush to sign a new deal at Craven Cottage, intensifying speculation that he could soon be departing for pastures new.
The 6ft 5in centre-back has made 52 league appearances for Roy Hodgson's side since arriving in January 2008, with the 28-year-old's rock-solid form last season helping the Cottagers seal a Europa League place, 12 months after avoiding relegation on the final day of the campaign.
As a result, the Norwegian international - who has featured 50 times for his country - has been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Manchester City.
While North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also on the lookout for a new central defender, with Arsene Wenger set to lose Kolo Toure to Manchester City and Harry Redknapp seeing Michael Dawson, Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King all suffer injuries.
Hangeland has previously pledged his allegiance to Fulham, insisting he was happy to stay at the club and assist them in their European quest in 2009/10.
However, the stopper has now revealed that is in no hurry to agree a new deal.
"I’m not in a rush to sign the contract. We will wait and see what happens," he said in the the Daily Telegraph.

Arsenal Ready To Re-Sign Patrick Vieira From Inter - Report
A north London derby is a-brewing around the Frenchman...
According to a sensational report in The Sun, Arsenal are planning to bring back one of their former greats, Patrick Vieira.
The French midfielder spent nine trophy-filled seasons with the Gunners, captaining the 'Invincibles' side that went unbeaten throughout the 2003-04 Premier League season.
Now, the Senegal-born star's future at Inter is uncertain, and a return to England looks increasingly likely. Birmingham City have had an offer rejected, while Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as surprise suitors.
Harry Redknapp has publicly admitted his interest in Spurs' old foe, but now it appears that he will have to contend with Arsene Wenger's advances in what was already a complicated proposal.
In many a pundit's view, Arsenal have struggled to properly replace Vieira since he left for Juventus in 2005, and thus it would perhaps be fitting if they filled their void in midfield with the man who created it in the first place.
It is understood that the club will offer the 33-year-old a one-year contract identical to that put forth by Tottenham.
for a 1 year contract.
I doubt it but still shocking.
Hes a bit old, need huntelaar over viera..

Liverpool Midfielder Xabi Alonso Hands In Transfer Request - Report
The future of deep-lying playmaker Xabi Alonso appears to be away from Anfield, as a flurry of press reports published today indicate that the Liverpool midfielder has requested that he be made available for transfer, in order for his protracted move to Real Madrid to gather momentum, as per a report in The Times.
Alonso has been linked with a Merseyside exit since last summer, when Arsenal were rumoured to be making firm eleventh-hour advances only to be denied a swoop during the closure of the transfer window.
Yet Liverpool's perceived willingness to do business for the Spaniard is perhaps the catalyst that has convinced Alonso to part ways with a club with whom he has won major honours.

Brad I'm sure they can sort it if you can prove you're definitely Brad, they'll be able to reset your pw and give you it.
Actually, not mods - but admins can - so contact James, Mark or Kaz!

Rangers vs. PSG, show starts at 1:30, not sure about k/o.
Its followed by Arsenal vs. Athletico Madrid, should be some decent matches today.
Sky Sports 2 and HD 2 btw.

Mon the 'gers!
Jayson
01-08-2009, 11:09 AM
Lauren, are you gonna be discussing?
I'm reckoning on 3-1 Rangers, and 2-1 Arsenal :hello:
Lauren
01-08-2009, 11:12 AM
Rangers 4 - 1
Arsenal 2 - 1
(Though slightly dubious as gers not made any new signings yet, but they have a very on form Thomson, and Mendes!)
Brad.
01-08-2009, 11:15 AM
Rangers 3 PSG 1
Arsenal 2 Atletico Madrid 1
So yeah, the same as jayson.
Lauren

C'mon gers - score the extra one so I beat these two hahah

It all depends how seriously Rangers take it, with their top team they could easily get 4, not sure how their line-up will look :/

Naah.
I've seen their training, they've brought Thomson back to the first team, and Mendes is on form. Bring on Novo second half for the pace and they'll easily get to 4. Mark my words (or famous last words pmsl).

I'd like them to bring Novo on, finally see him play LOL

lol he's a second half player - runs for every ball, you'll literally see him all over the pitch. Every team needs a player like Nacho!
(and ive met him and he's gorgeous and he has lovely big brown eyes and a big strong hug and...)
