I got sacked as Madrid manager last night. I've won two cups with them in my first three games, the European Super Cup and something else, think it was like the Spanish verison of the Community Shield.

What I hate about the game though is that you have to pay about 3 times more than the player is worth to be able to sign them

Report: David Villa Will Only Move To Premier League For Liverpool

Valencia's David Villa has ruled out a move to the Premier League during the close-season unless it is to play for Liverpool, according to a report in the British tabloid The Sun.

Apparently, the 27-year-old has informed close friends that he would only consider swapping Spain for England if he were to link up with fellow countrymen Rafa Benitez and Fernando Torres.

The news, if true, has seemingly ruled out the possibility of seeing the Spain international, who has scored 29 goals in 45 caps for La Furia Roja, plying his trade in the Premier League.

While Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be interested in acquring his services, it appears he would not be interested in a switch to either club.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are not thought to be able to compete financially with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid for the 5ft 9in striker.

Gibbs linked with rival switch

Arsenal, 15:12, June 19, 2009

Burnley are being linked with a move for Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs, who says he would be interested in a loan deal.
Gibbs is having to play second fiddle behind Gael Clichy at the Emirates Stadium and, although he is firmly in the future plans of Arsene Wenger, a season away on loan looks to be on the cards.

The Clarets are keen to take him and Gibbs, who starred for the England under-21s in their 2-0 win over Spain on Thursday night, would be open to a loan move.

"It will be difficult because when you play week-in week-out you get used to it and it would be different coming off the bench again," he revealed.

"I'm still 19 and he (Clichy) is a world-class left-back. I've still got a lot to learn from him and I don't think it will be too disappointing for me to continue learning from one of the best left-backs in the world.

"I enjoyed it at Norwich. Would I go again? I would go again if the manager wants me to, if he feels I need more experience before going back in at that level."

I cannot see Gibbs going out on loan he will get quite a bit of first team play, hes a great sub.

Wantaway Liverpool midfielder Mascherano set for Barca in £35m deal

Javier Mascherano is set to leave Liverpool, with Barcelona preparing a £35million bid.

The Argentine, 25, has told boss Rafael Benitez he needs to leave because his wife, Fernanda, is reluctant to return to England.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed earlier this month that the midfielder was unsettled but Benitez had hoped to persuade him to stay.

However, Fernanda is pregnant, has returned to South America with their daughter Iola and does not want to fly back.

Benitez is understanding but still wants at least £35m for his midfield enforcer.

Mascherano's agent, Walter Tamer, held talks on Wednesday with Barca general manager Raul Sanlehy and sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who will offer around £20m plus possibly striker Bojan Krkic.

If He goes for 35 million, barca will be officially the most stupid club in the world.

Hes not worth 35 at all way over priced. Could buy david villa if he does go though.

Are Chelsea about to Hijack Liverpool’s Big Money Move for Glen Johnson?

Only a few days ago it seemed as though the deal was done but rumours are surfacing that Chelsea are set to launch a last minute bid to seal Glen Johnson’s signature from their title rivals Liverpool.

Rafa Benitez had identified right back as being a spot in the squad that needed strengthening. Rumours have persisted over Alvaro Arbeloa’s future and Jamie Carragher’s aging legs can no longer get him up and down the flank as is required under Benitez’s system. Glen Johnson, therefore, seemed like the ideal signing for the Reds.

But Chelsea have let it be known to his suitors that Jose Bosingwa might be available at the right price leaving them too in need of a right back. Despite selling Johnson only a few years ago after he failed to break into their first team, he has clearly done well enough away from Stamford Bridge to convince them that they should bring him back to the club again.

For Johnson the choice is a nice one: two Champions League clubs, two teams challenging for the title.

Which should he choose?

Apparently Portsmouth has now agree'd terms with Chelsea apparently.

The Daily Mail says the highly rated Russia goalkeeper has been linked to Arsenal and Manchester United in recent months and his club have indicated they will listen to offers for some of their star players this summer.

In the strongest indication yet that Akinfeev will be offloaded, CSKA's Brazilian coach Zico is said to be lining up his compatriot Helton, of Porto, as a replacement.

Man Utd confirm Tevez to leave Old Trafford

LONDON (AFP) - Argentinian forward Carlos Tevez will leave English Premier League champions Manchester United, the club confirmed on Saturday.

Tevez's two-year loan deal was set to expire this month because United have been unable to agree a transfer fee with the group of investors who own the economic rights to the Argentine forward.

United offered Tevez a new five-year deal that would have made him one of the highest-paid players at Old Trafford, but said he turned it down.

A statement from Manchester United said: "Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the Club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the Club.

"The Club agreed to pay the option price of 25.5 million pounds and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest paid players.

"Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the Club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the Club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United.

"The Club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

The decision paves the way for Tezev, who has been linked to a number of top flight clubs in England including Liverpool and Manchester City, to relaunch his career in the Premier League. He has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Despite playing a leading role in United's success last season the Argentine complained of not playing enough. He was regularly used as a substitute.

Tevez last put on a United strip for the Champions League final in Rome, but had to watch from the bench as Barcelona took a 1-0 half-time lead.

Ferguson eventually sent the Argentina forward on as a half-time substitute but the Spanish giants went on to score another goal to win 2-0.

Arsenal's new £11m signing Thomas Vermaelen promises success

Arsenal's new signing Thomas Vermaelen has vowed to bring silverware back to the Emirates.

The £11million capture, who can play at centre-half or left-back, has signed a fiveyear deal after completing his move from Ajax.

He said last night: "I just want to assure the Arsenal fans I will give everything for this club and I hope we can enjoy winning some trophies together next season."

Vermaelen, 23, made more than 100 appearances for Ajax after joining the Dutch club in 2004.

The Belgian international, added: "Arsenal is a great club with a world-class manager, high-quality players and a fantastic stadium.

"Everything is set up for Arsenal to be very successful for years to come and I joined this club because I know Arsenal will challenge for trophies."

But while Vermaelen was euphoric, William Gallas was considering his future.

Could Everton Football Club be prepared to cash in on Joleon Lescott?

Arsenal and, more likely, Manchester City are said to be willing to pay £15million for the England international, who has become a key player for the Toffees.

However, reports claim David Moyes has made a bid for Russian international defender Sergei Ignashevich, who is contracted to CSKA Moscow.

This has sparked rumours the Goodison Park club may be willing to cash in on Lescott, who cost £5million when he moved from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006.

XABI ALONSO WON'T COMMIT TO LIVERPOOL

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has refused to commit his future to the club amid reports he is poised to make a return to Spain's Primera Liga.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez looks under increasing pressure to cash in on either Alonso or Javier Mascherano to part-fund his own summer spending spree at Anfield.

While Mascherano's agents have held discussions with Barcelona, Alonso has intimated he may also be looking for a better deal elsewhere, with Real Madrid already announcing their interest in signing him.

Speaking in South Africa, where he is competing in the Confederations Cup with Spain, Alonso stoked up the speculation surrounding his future.

"Would you be disappointed if you end up having to stay at Liverpool next season?" he was asked.

"I can't answer that question," he replied.

Benitez has already insisted he does not want to sell any of his key players this summer, with the club releasing a statement last week stressing their desire to keep the midfield duo.

City agree Santa Cruz fee
Blackburn striker set to be reunited with Hughes

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Blackburn to sign Roque Santa Cruz for £18million, according to Sky Sports News sources.

The Paraguayan striker's future has been the subject of intense speculation for some time and he was linked with a move to City during the January transfer window.

Mark Hughes attempted to bring him in but could not agree a fee with Rovers as Sam Allardyce fought to keep one of his top players.

Santa Cruz was brought to England by Hughes in 2007 when he was in charge at Ewood Park.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a tremendous first season in the Premier League but struggled for form and fitness following Hughes' move from Blackburn to City.

He has regularly been quoted as saying that he could leave Blackburn in the summer and it now appears he may be reunited with Hughes.

It is understood a fee has been agreed but personal terms will need to be sorted out before a transfer can be finalised.

City are looking to strengthen their squad considerably before the start of the 2008/9 campaign to enable them to compete with the top clubs.

They already have a formidable set of strikers but Hughes feels Santa Cruz would provide a different kind of threat.

Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy made available by Real Madrid

• Spanish club has to sell to keep buying galácticos
• Renewed bid for Valencia's David Villa likely

30stone
20-06-2009, 01:02 PM
Real Madrid Real Madrid have contacted several *Premier League clubs with a list of nine players they are keen to offload as they desperately seek to recover some of the £150m they spent on Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy are among those for sale.

A fax has been sent from the Bernabéu that includes the names of the club's Dutch players, as well as the former Manchester United full-back Gabriel Heinze. Robben and Van Nistelrooy are joined by their compatriots Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart and Royston Drenthe. The defensive midfielder Mahamadou Diarra and the striker Javier Saviola have also been made available.

Madrid concluded two huge transfers in four days for Kaka and Ronaldo but their new president, Florentino Pérez, is determined to continue spending. He wants to make a renewed bid for David Villa after negotiations broke down at the last minute with Valencia, whose president, Manuel Llorente, is furious at Madrid's approach. Valencia want €45m (£38m) for the striker but Madrid have so far refused to meet the valuation.

That late twist appeared to offer Chelsea and United a glimmer of hope in their *pursuit of the Spain international although a Barcelona director has admitted they, too, are in talks with Villa.

Pérez has announced that he had to "do in one year what we would normally do in three" and he is determined to sign a left-back, central defender and central midfielder. Madrid also want to sign a striker and will turn their attention to Diego Forlán should they fail to sign Villa. Although Madrid have appeared to boast limitless resources over the past week, the Spanish club are aware that they have to sell in order to continue buying.

Madrid have set themselves a target of €100m of incoming transfer fees to help fund a total outlay that could reach €300m. That would represent a significant loss on players who cost them more than €160m but the figure still appears optimistic.

The shift in the euro means that a €10m player will now cost an English club about £8.5m, when a little over a year ago the figure was closer to £6m. The vast majority of the players have also seen their value drop at Madrid. Van Nistelrooy is one of the few to have enhanced his reputation but he has been injured for eight months and will be 33 in two weeks' time. He and Huntelaar are among Tottenham's targets.

Although Robben has expressed his desire to stay at the Bernabéu, Madrid are especially determined to sell him because they consider him one of the few players who can command a huge fee, alongside Sneijder, who signed for €25.5m from Ajax in 2007. Robben is not helped by his status as a marquee signing and electoral promise of the former president Ramón Calderón – the only promise he delivered on. Privately, however, Madrid doubt their chances of recovering the €36m he cost from Chelsea.

Madrid remain determined to sell players, even if they do not recuperate their original fees, and would also consider loans. Together, Sneijder, Drenthe, Robben and Van Nistelrooy account for almost €10m a year in wages, while Diarra is on €2.8m, Saviola €2.5m and Heinze €2m.

Reading boss calm over Premier League target
10:00 PM 19 June, 2009
New manager Brendan Rodgers knows that Stephen Hunt is itching to play in the top-flight again amid interest from Sunderland and Everton.

"I will always pay respect to players," Rodgers told the Reading Chronicle.

"Once you've been in the Premier League and have shown that you can play in there, it can be very difficult to spend your time in the Championship.

"It's not something new, I think Stephen was looking to go last season but decided to stay right through thinking Reading might go up."

Ice man set for new Royals deal

Reading, 15:51, June 19, 2009

Nicky Hammond has confirmed that midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson has been offered a new one-year contract to remain at Reading.
The Royals' director of football has revealed that the club are hopeful of keeping the 33-year-old Iceland international at the Madejski Stadium beyond this month when his current contract expires. And Hammond admitted he will be speaking to Gunnarsson's representatives over the weekend in order to try and get him to pledge his future to the club for another 12 months.

"Bryn has been offered a new deal and I'm due to speak to his people in the next couple of days," he told Reading Post.

"With Bryn it is his right to look to see what else is out there to see if he can get a longer contract near the end of his career.

"We understand that situation and if he moves on then of course we will wish him the best of luck wherever he goes, but I hope he will stay."

Hammond also said that, while he thinks Gunnarsson will make an excellent coach in the future, he dismissed claims this new deal offer would include him stepping into a coaching role at the club.

He added: "People need to earn the right to become a coach and do their badges, but Bryn is definitely someone who would be good at that.

"He's an intelligent guy who would definitely make a good coach."

Normal England.

We have had a few easy games and they have played dangerously and made mistakes like conceeding 4 goals.

But we have dominated every team really.

I would love a Spain - England Final.

with 3rd and 4th Russia and Italy.

Manchester United have confirmed that Carlos Tevez is leaving the club.

United were willing to pay the £25.5m to turn the striker's two-year loan move into a permanent five-year deal but Tevez, 25, has decided to move on.

"Disappointingly, his advisors informed the club that he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United," read a United statement.

"The club thanks Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

Tevez became a crowd favourite during his time at the Old Trafford club and helped the side win the last two Premier League titles, the 2008 Champions League trophy as well as last season's Carling Cup.

But he has joined Cristiano Ronaldo in wanting to exit the club, with his final appearance being as a substitute in United's loss to Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

Manchester City have agreed a deal with Blackburn to buy striker Roque Santa Cruz, BBC Sport understands.

The Paraguay international was the subject of a number of bids from City in January but Rovers boss Sam Allardyce refused to sell Santa Cruz.

The 27-year-old's buy-out clause in his contract is as high as £18m.

Santa Cruz, who was under contract with Blackburn until 2012, missed the end of the season with a knee injury and has made no secret of his desire to leave.

If the deal goes through, it would be City's second signing of the summer, following Gareth Barry's £12m move from Aston Villa.

After joining from Bundesliga side Bayern Munich for £3.8m in 2007, Santa Cruz went on to make 70 appearances for Rovers, scoring 29 goals.

But he scored just six goals last season in a disjointed campaign, with the knee keeping him on the sidelines for the last two months.
