Something like that was bound to be leaked beforehand, probably by someone in production rather than the papers. More publicity for the stunt, really.

Less than that. Filming in advance just makes it appear longer on screen.
Also, you said he "never" takes six months off which is not true. 2003 and 2006 spring to mind. Nobody said those breaks were over shoddy producers.

No. He took a year out 2003-2004 and him, Peggy and Grant returned in 2005.
He left as part of Letitia Dean's exit in 2006 and came back. Letitia Dean was supposed to be taking a break and returning with him (with Dennis' baby) but didn't come back until 2012.

Yup. The Chrissie/Den stuff managed to drag in all the major families from the previous 20 years into it. Best bits were Phil and Grant shoving Johnny Allen into next week and Sharon giving Chrissie one dirty bitch slap at the airport.
Eastenders was never gonna top all that. It's been good at points since but nothing tops the first 20 years (in my opinion).

Has the nature of Lisa's mental illness been hinted at before or are they just using "mental health issues" as an explanation?
She's always clearly had mental heath issues, through Phil's alcoholism and abuse of her, her using Mark Fowler when things were bad with Phil, being worn down to the point of shooting him, and Phil even almost drove her to suicide in Portugal.
They've never actually focussed on it as its own story though, like for example Stacey's bipolar.
It's an interesting and good way to take Lisa if they wanted to bring her back, but the fact she's only back a couple of weeks makes me think what's the point as they can't really go that in depth with it.
Hopefully though, it allows Phil and Lisa to bury the hatchet for good and them to make peace and Louise can have a relationship with both, going to see Lisa off screen.
Marsh.
28-07-2017, 08:05 PM
Lisa Fowler is the queen of iconic returns. Remember when she caught the bouquet of flowers at whoever's wedding it was?
Kate's wedding to Phil. After everyone assumed Lisa had been murdered by him in Portugal as he came back with Louise with no sign of Lisa. Kate was the undercover cop working with Marsden IIRC.
I loved that era, how all the major storylines didn't just spring up out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly, they all actually flowed and affected one another. One story directly caused the next etc. Like it was all one massive arc.
The show kind of got that back a little with DTC, like now you could say Max's story has been one big arc from 2013, then right through the Lucy stuff. But it's nowhere near as brilliantly written and plotted.
Marsh.

"Why are you being so stubborn!"

Also, apparently the "event" which involves all of the characters occurs in September. Apparently, a protest begins against Weyland and Co and their gentrification of the area and Max and the Chairman hire people to hijack the protest and a riot breaks out across the Square.

I don't think she's ever been reluctant to return.
She just said she always wanted to come back with a story rather than floating about.
Which considering she was a huge part of Who Shot Phil? I wouldn't want to settle into a longterm role of buying sandwiches from Honey in the Minute Mart either.

She's dissociating, that much I can tell. I know dissociation can cause memory gaps (amnesia) so that would explain the 'lie' she told her therapist. Phil's obviously a traumatic trigger for her.
Dissociation's just a broad phenomenon though. The extreme version of it's split personality but they're obviously not covering that type of illness in three weeks. It's hard to see an exact disorder at this stage.
Marsh.
29-07-2017, 03:25 AM
I just assumed she was lying, rather than believing it herself.
But it makes sense, in times of high stress she'd probably really convince herself everything was fine and going well to try and calm herself down.
Redway
30-07-2017, 02:10 PM
Yeah. Like I say she's not gonna be splitting alter egos for two weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if she's a case of complex PTSD.
That's if they follow it up correctly. If it turns out to be anything like Lee's depression it'll just end up being a crock of poorly researched ****. I don't trust Easties to do a good job anymore where mental health's concerned.

Which doesn't even make sense in the way they've told this so called "story".
But then Whitney as a character makes no sense. Her sole function is to just hang around groups of characters who don't want her and be overly sexual but then have a meltdown and blame it on her past.

This whole Taylor family benefits storyline really has me cacking. "I will get a job! I won't go on benefits!" when literally everyone beforehand just asks for a job and gets on straight away.

Yeah, it is funny how everyone in soap normally gets a job over the road from where they live overnight and no matter the type of job have enough to run their own home, have a family, eat out, drink out and have designer clothes etc.
That's what makes the attempt at "realism" with the Taylor's even worse. They're not real, they're ridiculous but at the opposite end of the extreme.

It's ridiculous. ESPECIALLY for EastEnders since London is just so expensive.
But tbh all soaps are the same. They just don't have enough time these days to keep things realistic. Characters don't exist outside of story lines anymore.
And no one ever eats in unless the story commands it - for example TV dinner/microwave meal to show character is lonely (they'll inevitably shove it to the side, whip out somebody's phone number whom they brushed off earlier in the day and ring them) or an awkward family meal where no one eats and an argument breaks out/secret is revealed.
Ugh. :yuk:

So I haven't watched properly since the bus crash. How much have I missed?
Not much except all of the drip feeds of storylines seem to be reaching a head.
- Fi now revealed as Max's girlfriend, which we saw coming. He's sleeping with Carmel thought to get "information" from her about the council's planning department. You know, because this woman who's worked there for 5 minutes knows all the secrets?
- Woody's returning soon and engaged to Whitney after they slept together once and spent 6 weeks off screen together.
- Linda has returned, though it's been revealed Elaine has been back on her feet for a while, there is something else that's kept Linda away the last couple of months.
- Jane and Ian are moving away and giving the house to Lauren and Steven. Kathy isn't happy and recently mentioned Arthur's bench as a potential new home for her.
- Steven told Lauren he had a brain tumour to stop her leaving him for New Zealand as she thought her feelings for Josh were about her missing Peter.
- Max found out about the lie and then told Lauren that Steven only had three months to live so they're getting married ASAP.
- Abi is sleeping with Steven and being a general mess.
- Denise is... waiting for her GCSE results.
- Lisa returned briefly and promptly had a nervous breakdown to explain her absence from Louise's life.
- Phil is back, his storylines are stepping up again soon.
- Sharon's played second fiddle to everyone else.
- The Taylor's remain cringeworthy and the lad from Benidorm is the only one who can act. The teenage girl is pregnant... because she's poor and common innit.
- The Murray's have a gun that relates to a secret nobody cares about.
- Tracy lost her job at the Vic because they couldn't afford her wages... then hired Stacey, Ted, Patrick and Woody.
- Honey and Billy continue to float in the background.
- Jack has a new live-in nanny that looks suspiciously like a younger Ronnie.
- And Kim and Vincent booked a holiday that Vincent is worried to tell Kim they actually can't go on now. :o
- Oh and Michelle has struck up a romance with some random bloke who had a nosebleed on the tube. After one of their dates he randomly shouted at a stranger, like Ben Stiller in Friends.
- The bullies set fire to Louise and were arrested and left the show.
- Shaki cut his bun.
- Bex is over her bullying ordeal but continues to over emote.
- Louise learned how to act.
- SOC was fired!!!!
:)
