One of the worst films I have ever seen. Great effects, story is horrid and boring. I know people will love it but for me - it was a clock watcher.

Watched a lot over the weekend :

Gangs Of New York : Pointing out how creepy and fantastic Daniel Day Lewis is is obviously necessary and whilst Leonardo DiCaprio is no slouch either the movie burned me out by the end and I found what felt like a rushed conclusion to be a bit ... ****.

The Damned United : Another part of the random download basket, I assumed this one was a football hooligan epic given it's title but instead it's a rather nice snapshot of the life of manager Brian Clough and his assistant coach - the bloke that plays Scabbers the rat in Harry Potter. Colm Meaney is in it too. He has a habit of just turning up like that. It's an entertaining way to pass two hours.

8MM : I loved it. It got panned but I loved it. It's one of those funny, dodgy films. Nicholas Cage plays Nicholas Cage trying to track down the makers of a snuff movie with the help of a flamboyant, lederhosen wearing Joaquin 'I don't know if I spelt his name right' Phoenix who - no stranger to having a riddiculous name - plays the porn store clerk Max California. There's something about Nicholas Cage's wife and child in it too, and something about a dead girl, but the main thing is that Phoenix helps Cage find a snuff movie production company.

One brilliant scene in particular sees the intrepid duo blend in with the L.A. underworld for a drawn out ten minute romp through an underground illegal porn supermarket in someones basement.

Funny People : This is the one where Judd Apatow dissapears up his own arsehole. Seth Rogan goes with him of course. Two and a half hours for a 'this is my serious comedy movie' disaster that always 'heh' funny and never 'LOL!' funny [apart from the scene where a 'dying' Adam Sandler and Rogan make fun of Sandler's doctor, the actual guy who plays Carl from Die Hard, because he looks like someone from Die Hard - 'I just keep getting the feeling that you're going to be torturing James Bond after this!']

It's overlong and the story looses all meaning about an hour in when you find out that Adam Sandler's character is no longer dying. So you get a decent hours movie, then another 90 minute generic Apatow movie about getting the girl, and dick jokes, and suchlike.

The Book Of Eli : Denzel Washington tries to keep the last remaining copy of the King James Bible from Gary Oldman who wants it for his own evil purposes. That's it. Seriously. It's fun enough though. It's got a nice, washed out, overly orange and brown visual style that you will find either incredibly striking or incredibly annoying. The script was penned by newcomer Gary Whitta who is a video game journalist and this one has 'written by a videogamer' all over it. More than once I felt like I was back in Fallout 3.

Crazy Heart.. I acyually quite enjoyed it although I felt there were a few threads of the story which I would have liked to have seen developed a bit more before the kind of disappointing ending.
It also made me realise that I'mnot overly keen on Maggie Gylenhall.. I find her a bit irritating.
However, it was an enjoyable film with a great performance from Jeff Bridges :)

Aww pooch. It was sad but I didn't cry. It was romantic. The dead husband leaving lots of messages for this wife. I think he might have left too many! But it was one of the most romantic things I have seen!

My favourite horror movie of all time :D Brilliant, scary enough, hilarious and just has an amazing storyline and backstory, Wes Craven is just amazing as is Kevin Williamson

10/10 :D

Scream 3: (2000, original 3, Patrick Dempsey, Parker Posey, Scott Foley, Jenny McCarthy)
The weakest of the Scream trilogy, due to the fact it was written by the dire Ehren Krueger, though the storyline is good and it has a good idea, it just falls into the clíches and isnt that scary tbh.

Amazing film. Christian Bale gave one of, if not the best performance i've ever seen.. Great the way it is more than just a boxing movie aswell, actually makes you interested in the characters instead of just the fights. Much better than Black Swan, and probably on par with Inception.

It's a boygirl thing.....

A nice little rom com. Where the girl and boy swap bodies. Yes.. like Freaky Friday!

It was a bit predictable.. the whole "prom thing" at the end. God.. I do like these cheesy American rom coms.. but why oh why do nearly all of them have to end or nearly end or even at some point in the film have the "prom" scene!

Anyway other than that.. it was good. I especially loved it when the girl gorged herself in the canteen eating away!! (The boy was currently in the girls body at this time).

Had quite a good soundtrack to the film too! With James Blunt.. and an Elton John CD playing in the background! Hoooooot!

Did she get raped or just stabbed and then put in that box? << Suppose if they showed this explicitly it wouldn't be a 12 rating then!

It was a bit sad but nice that Susie was like in heaven, well half way between life and heaven in all them beautiful landscapes and ended up with children her own age!

The peedo was a fantastic, creepy character as well.

Ooo I like that film. When the obese woman dies and then the family wanted her to keep her dignity and not lifted out of the house to be buried or cremated and that instead she was left in the house and they burned the house down. Lol. I loved Johnny Depp's and Juliette Lewis's chemistry in it. The obese woman made me feel sick though.

Ok I finally watched a Serbian film..

and...eww!

just an excuse to depict extreme torture porn. Not believable at all and therefore hard to take as anything other than a bad shockhorror. Saw and Hostel did it way better without the extreme twisted perversions. Just throwing in any disgusting depiction for pure tittilation and shock value.

I did see the very first uncensored edit sent out to critics before release so maybe the later version is more palatable? Whatever...it just left a nasty taste. Better looking actors may have helped if going for tittilation btw. Just saying.

You may think you want to see it....but you really don't.

I read the book (which was alot better) and yeah she was raped first. Also, in the book, when she comes back for her "first kiss" it's actually for a shag, she'd already kissed him when she was alive. Also in the book, her mother leaves for years, alot longer than in the film

The Baby of Macon

A story, set in the Ancien Regime of France of a baby stolen from its mother by a woman who wants people to believe she is capable of a virgin birth. The theme of exploitation and gaining off the backs of others seems to permeate the whole movie. For an arthouse obscurity, it's very watchable and entertaining. It includes an early role for Ralph Fiennes and he gets a very lengthy and graphic nude scene, for which the movie gets extra points from me.

Get your hands on it while you can. It's a British movie, but I had to buy a Swedish import (from Amazon UK nevertheless), because BBFC censorship has prevented it from being made available for general release in the UK (hard to understand when they leave the likes of Hostel, Antichrist and the Human Centipede completely untouched) and I have no idea how long it's going to stay in print.

The Last King Of Scotland - Brilliant but disturbing, Forrest Whitaker was fantastic in it

'22 Bullets' with Jean Reno. Very violent, not half as good as Leon, but good.

Land & Freedom - about a British volunteer for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War, it was really good although I'm not sure if it's meant to have subtitles in it, parts of the film are in Catalan and the version I watched didnt have any but it was on Ken Loach's official youtube page so I dunno if it's supposed to be like that :/

Where the Wind Blows

A good movie, but hard to watch. It's an animated movie from the 80's about a sweet old British couple who survive the blast from a nuclear bomb by building a crummy shelter in their home (they think the experience will be just the same as the blitz of WW2), but are unaware that they are slowly dying from radiation sickness.

It is extremely moving and darkly comic all at once and yet I don't think I could handle watching it again. It makes Barefoot Gen (a similar movie) look like Astro Boy. See it at least once.

8.5/10

The most frightening war movie I've EVER seen and probably ever will and about as bleak as 'what if' scenarios get. Hard as it is to believe, this was made for the BBC at one of the scariest times in the Cold War (Reagan/Thatcher/Andropov as world leaders). It takes you through, in disturbing detail, the near-instant annihilation of Britain's infrastructure and civilization following a full scale battle between the Soviets and the West with thermonuclear weapons. Oh... and a couple of familiar faces from Coronation Street and Emmerdale pop up.

I'd recommend pretty much anybody see this, unless you found 28 Days Later scary.
