Van Persie rejected bigger Chelsea, Man City offers for Arsenal stay
12.07.09 | tribalfootball.com
Chelsea management were convinced they could land Arsenal striker Robin van Persie this summer, it has been revealed.
The Mail on Sunday says both Manchester City and Chelsea launched audacious bids to lure Arsenal's Robin van Persie with salary offers of more than £100,000 per week.
Although tempted by the prospect of joining Chelsea because he would have been able to stay in London, Van Persie chose instead to sign a four-year, £80,000-per-week extension to his deal at Arsenal, having also rejected offers from Juventus and Inter Milan.
Van Persie's decision was a big blow to new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is still trying to sign the creative players he thinks the squad needs.

Bordeaux chasing Arsenal defender Silvestre
12.07.09 | tribalfootball.com
Bordeaux are chasing Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.
The Mirror says Silvestre, 31, has struggled to hold down a regular place after his move from Manchester United last summer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has also splashed out £11million on Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen who, like the French international, can play in central defence or left back.
Silvestre has not been a hit with the fans and that has led to Bordeaux believing they may be able to snatch him on a free transfer.
Arsenal signed him on a two-year contract last summer without paying a fee.

Ibrahimovich Considering Chelsea Offer
Reports are suggesting today Chelsea have made a bid of £60million for Zlatan Ibrahimovich.
A couple of questions spring to mind here, firstly, is this the ‘quality signing’ they hope will persuade John Terry to stay at the club or are they planning to fund the transfer off the back of John Terry’s departure?
Ibrahimovic naturally isn’t worried about where the money’s coming from and says “I am fully aware that Chelsea want to sign me and, of course, it is very flattering. They are one of the biggest teams in Europe and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. Money is not the most important thing. I will base my decision on what’s good for me, what suits me. It is about asking: will I still be able to be special in the league that I am going to, the team I am going to? Are my qualities right for the Premier League or not?”
I’m glad to hear he’s at least considering whether he’d be any good in the Premier League for that sort of money because he wouldn’t be the first big money signing from Serie A to fail in a better league.

Rafa Benitez has revealed Liverpool have rejected a number of offers for Reds ace Fernando Torres.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all been linked with a big-money move for Torres, while team-mates Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano have also been in demand this summer.
Benitez is not surprised his players are in demand, but he always knew Torres was happy to stay at Anfield.
"We have had some very big offers for some of our key players this summer - and that includes Fernando Torres," said Benitez.
"Clubs wanted Fernando and we were contacted by agents working for those clubs
"But we always knew that when a bid came in we would say 'no'.
"The main thing was that Torres wanted to stay here. People knew the player wanted to stay, but it did not stop clubs trying.
"We wanted to send out a message that Liverpool are a strong team and that we want to improve. You don't improve by selling your best players."

Meh havent watch football for years though...
Hibernian say they have beaten off competition from several clubs to take teenage midfielder Thomas McCready to Easter Road from Everton.
The 18-year-old trained with the Edinburgh side at the end of the last campaign and will join the successful Under-19 set-up.
Hibs were the Under-19 league and cup champions last season.
Seven members of that squad have since been handed first-team contracts, including Irish striker Kurtis Byrne.
Thomas Flynn, Ewan Moyes, Lee Currie, David Wotherspoon, Sean Walsh and Patrick Deane are the others making the step up this term and manager John Hughes has indicated that they will all get a chance to impress in pre-season games.
On the arrival of Chester-born McCready, who joined Everton as a 12-year-old, Hibs U-19 coach James McDonaugh told the club website: "He has a chance - you don't play a few games for Everton reserves for nothing - so he's got great ability.
"When Tom came up last season and trained with the boys that were winning every week, it helped to get him to the club."
David Beckham has hit back at LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan for suggesting he has shown a lack of commitment.
Beckham has returned to the Galaxy after a five-month loan at AC Milan with Donovan's comments on his mind.
"It is unprofessional in my eyes," said Beckham, who plans to speak Donovan about the matter.
"In 17 years, I have played with the biggest teams in the world and the biggest players and not once been criticised for my professionalism."
United States captain Donovan made his comments in a book called 'The Beckham Experiment'.
He said Beckham's level of dedication to the Major League Soccer club had waned since his arrival in July 2007, despite the 34-year-old former England skipper being paid "more than double anybody in the league".
I don't apologise for what I said - I just apologise for the way I did it
Landon Donovan
But Beckham said: "In every football player's eyes throughout the world it would be unprofessional to speak out about a team-mate, especially in the press and not to your face.
"But I'm going to turn it on a positive spin because that's what this needs."
Beckham will come face-to-face with Donovan when he returns to training with the Galaxy on Monday and is set to return to action for the side against New York Red Bulls on 16 July.
The England midfielder could get a hostile reception from some fans but insists the problems between himself and Donovan will not seep on to the pitch to the detriment of the side.
"I'm personally very professional when I am on the field," said Beckham, who has endured a tough time with a Galaxy side that failed to reach the play-offs at the end of his first season and parted company with manager Ruud Gullitt.
"I don't care what people say about me off the field, once I'm on the field I'm professional and if there is a chance for him to score, I will be giving him the ball.
"Me and Landon will talk, but that will be a private conversation."
606: DEBATE
Beckham really needs clearer thinking and much better professional advice
aries22
Donovan, who spent a spell on loan at Bayern Munich while Beckham was with AC Milan, played in LA Galaxy's 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday.
He has refused to apologise for his comments, although he regrets the way they have come out.
"I don't apologise for what I said," Donovan told the LA Galaxy website. "I just apologise for the way I did it.
"I should have told him to his face. I've long told David since he's been gone and I've been gone that I want to sit down and talk with him about everything.
"It's fresh in everyone's minds now, and it appears like everything has gone on in a short period of time, but this has been a long time coming.
"The timing of it makes it a little awkward and seemingly uncomfortable, but we'll be fine. We'll get through it."
He added: "We all like David. I like David as a person and I think he's a very good player.
"The frustrating part was at some point something happened and he seemingly turned off at the end of the year.
"Nobody knows what it was, and my fault is I should have asked him and approached him and I didn't.
"Instead I vented to a reporter and I regret it."

Chelsea given the green light to move for £50 million striker
Chelsea are ready to make a £50 million move for Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the player admitted he is very flattered to be linked with the Premier League giants.
When asked about the possibilty of a summer move to Stamford Bridge, the Swedish striker had this to say : ”I am fully aware that Chelsea want to sign me and, of course, it is very flattering. They are one of the biggest teams in Europe and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.”
Chelsea boss Carlos Ancelotti is desperate to bring in a new striker this summer and Ibrahimovic is understood to be one of his leading targets. Ibrahimovic, 27, has in recent times claimed that he may be ready for a new challenge and Chelsea are preparing to test Inter’s resolve with a £50 million bid.
I have always been a huge fan of Ibrahimovic’s and I would love to see him arrive at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks. During his three years at the San Siro, Ibrahimovic has scored an impressive 65 goals in all competitions and I’m sure if he was to arrive in England, he would score bags of goals.

Real Madrid Decrease Offer For Liverpool's Xabi Alonso
The Blancos have downsized their bid, according to the Spanish press...
Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Real Madrid have decreased their offer for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso by €3m in the face of a lack of response from the English club.
According to the Sunday edition of the Madrid-based paper, the Merengues' original offer of €27m expired on July 8, necessitating a new bid.
This offer has apparently been replaced by a decreased bid of €24m in an attempt to coax a response from the Anfield outfit.
At a weekend press conference coach Manuel Pellegrini stated that the Spanish international would fit nicely into his new-look, Galactico-studded line-up, as speculation over the ex-Real Sociedad crack's future heats up.
It is further rumoured that Xabi is keen to return to Spain, having apparently communicated these wishes to his coach, Rafael Benitez.

Aston Villa set to bid £12m for German starlet Mesut Ozil
The News of the World claim this morning that Aston Villa have targeted one of the stars of Germany’s Under-21 triumph at the recent European Championship, Werder Bremen playmaker Mesut Ozil.
According to the Sunday tabloid: "Aston Villa will turn their attention to Werder Bremen star Mesut Ozil after refusing to up their bid for Fabian Delph. Boss Martin O'Neill saw his £6million offer for Leeds midfielder Delph, 19, rejected and believes his inexperience does not justify a higher fee."
The News of the World adds that "Villa look set to confirm their interest with a £12m bid - and Ozil is ready to turn down Bremen's offer of a new contract to seal a move."
Ozil, 20, is contracted to Werder Bremen until the end of the 2010/2011 season and is pinpointed as the schemer to take over from Diego next season, after the Brazilian joined Juventus.
The left-footed playmaker is predominantly used as a central attacking midfielder but can also play deeper, as a supporting striker or as a left winger. Bremen signed him for 4.3 million euros from Schalke in January 2008 and last season he established himself as one of the brightest talents in European football.
Ozil scored three goals and provided 16 assists in 42 games for Bremen in the Bundesliga and UEFA Cup. Scouts in Germany describe him as a "hugely talented player. The young playmaker is agile, very quick and extremely technical skilled."
In the recent European Championship Ozil scored a goal against England in the final and in the tournament as a whole provided four assists as Germany won the competition. IMScouting picked Mesut Ozil as a Player to Watch in October 2008, a full report on "the new Diego" can be seen here.

Aston Villa Keen On Tottenham Hotspur Striker Darren Bent - Report
The Villans have switched their sights to the Spurs man, who has been reportedly linked with a move to Wearside...
Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has turned his gaze to north London as he looks to strengthen his side over the summer, and is set to launch a bid for Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Darren Bent, a man who has been strongly linked with a switch to Sunderland in recent days.
Birmingham newspaper The Sunday Mercury claims that the Ulsterman is considering a bid for the striker, whose wage demands have put off some suitors over the summer.
Bent reportedly earns £90,000 a week at White Hart Lane, an amount that has seen Spurs offer to make an additional payment to the player in order to facilitate a move away from the club.
Villa apparently do not want to pay the striker any more than £40,000 a week, nor will they better the £12 million that Sunderland were reportedly prepared to pay Spurs for the striker.
However, O'Neill is in need of some help upfront, with the injury-prone Emile Heskey and John Carew his main target men, and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is willing to lower his club's £16 million evaluation of Bent in order to clear some space in his squad for his own reinforcements.
Bent netted 17 goals from 42 games for Tottenham last season.

Manchester City confirm Carlos Tevez deal
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Carlos Tevez. The Argentina forward, who left Manchester United at the end of last season, is set to have a medical before meeting up with with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of South Africa.
The 25-year-old agreed personal terms and is expected to join on a five-year deal. City said the deal has been ratified by the Premier League and the Football Association.
"It is terrific news," Mark Hughes, their manager, said. "Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward."
"He is not only outstanding technically but he is a reliable goal-scorer and someone who will contribute fully to the team ethic. He gives us another exciting, attacking dimension.

Report: Man City To Offer Arsenal Striker Adebayor 5-Year Deal
Manchester City's negotiations with Arsenal and the player's representatives over a potential move for Emmanuel Adebayor from north London to Eastlands are now at an advanced stage, according to Sky Sports News, with the Citizens about to offer the striker a lucrative and lengthy contract, should he decide to switch in a deal now reportedly worth £22 million.
City are ready to offer the player a five-year contract, according to Sky's sources, with the accompanying personal terms also extremely appealing.
Adebayor can expect to earn something in the region of £170,000 a week at City, an amount that is apparently double what he currently earns at Arsenal.
Neither City nor the Gunners have yet made public comment on the potential transfer, but this report suggests that the Mancunians' move for the player has reached a fairly advanced stage, with the club now preferring to move deals along quickly after the convoluted saga involving Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o, which they officially ended on Friday.

If Arsenal’s Adebayor goes to City, is Chamakh good enough to replace him?
With the news today that Man City have turned their attention to the Arsenal striker Emanuel Adebayor, after deciding they couldn’t wait any longer for Samuel Eto’o to make up his mind, it has become distinct possibilty that the Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh will be replacing Adebayor at the Emirates.
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already stated in an interview that he is very interested in Chamakh, but only if Adebayor decides to leave.
Chamakh responded by agreeing that would he would be pleased to join Arsenal if Wenger came calling. He said: “I want to play in the Premier League and a club like Arsenal would be a dream. If they were to come calling, I would certainly give them a positive answer.”
So as it is a possibility it is worth looking at Chamakh’s previous record. He is tall, over 6ft, and although only 25 he has already played 50 games for Morocco. He was actually born in France but his Moroccan parentage qualifies him to play for them.
He first joined Bordeaux at the tender age of 16 and has been there ever since. By the age of 20 he was the club’s top scorer in Ligue 1, but in the following three years, despite being a regular starter, he only managed a total of 20 goals over the period.
Last year was a notable improvement, when playing alongside the young prodigy Yoann Gourcuff, he managed to score a total of 14 in 42 appearances for the club.
His professional career record stands at 53 goals in 223 games, hardly the figures expected from a top striker, but he is also respected as a goal provider for his strike partners, He is strong in the air, he can hold up the ball when waiting for support and is said to be an intelligent runner off the ball.
I am sure Wenger will be hoping he can work his magic on him and turn him into a more prolific striker, but if he creates as many as he scores there will be no complaints from his boss.
There will be many Arsenal fans that would be glad to see the back of Adebayor, and will be counting their lucky stars if Man City pay a good price for him, but perhaps it is worth considering that in the “awful” season that Adebayor had last year, h still scored two goals more than Chamakh!
Are Arsenal fans willing to trust Wengers judgement on this one, or would they just be happy to say goodbye to Adebayor, whoever replaces him?

Can Aston Villa stop Ashley Young moving to Chelsea, Spurs or Man Utd?
It looks like there is going to be a bidding war developing between Tottenham, Chelsea and Man Utd for the Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.
The Young-Player-of-the-Year last season has been consistently linked with these top clubs for some time now, and the reports that Martin O’Neill is trying to buy Stewart Downing from Middlesbrough has not helped the speculation.
Today’s news is that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is willing to give O’Neill his own winger David Bentley PLUS a substantial amount of cash to prise Young away from Villa.
But once it has been established that Villa are willing to listen to offers, you can be sure that Man Utd and Chelsea will come in with counter-bids.
Carlo Ancelotti was named as an admirer even before he was confirmed as Chelsea manager, and it has been said that Young is Alex Ferguson’s top summer target, and we all know he usually gets his man.
The one over-riding worry for Villa fans is the deafening silence from Young on the matter, and there has been no emphatic denial from Martin O’Neill either, compared to last summer when he continually declared that Gareth Barry would NOT be leaving.
Villa fans are looking at a new season without Gareth Barry, Martin Laursen, and now Ashley Young.
What do Villa fans think of this possibility?

Man Utd confident Gremio will accept new Douglas Costa offer
Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Gremio starlet Douglas Costa.
The Times says the Brazilian club are holding out for about £20 million — close to the release clause stated in the player’s contract — but United are reluctant to pay that much and hope that a compromise can be reached shortly.
United initially wanted to take Douglas, 18, on a three-week trial, but while that request was rejected by Grêmio, negotiations over a permanent deal are continuing.
The Guardian says United have put together a financial package, with an initial outlay of £7m, plus a series of success-related add-ons if the player lives up to the promise that has brought him to the attention of Ferguson via John Calvert-Toulmin, the club's principal scout in Brazil.

John Hartsons got cancer :/
Former Wales striker John Hartson has been diagnosed with brain cancer, a hospital statement said today.
Hartson, 34, who played 51 times for Wales and for clubs including Arsenal, West Ham United, Coventry City, Wimbledon, Luton Town and Celtic, is facing many months of treatment.
"Mr Hartson attended Singleton Hospital on Friday (July 10) displaying symptoms consistent with testicular cancer," Gianfilippo Bertelli, a consultant medical oncologist, said in the statement from the Swansea hospital.
"A number of clinical tests were put in place and these have confirmed the presence of testicular cancer. Unfortunately, it has also been confirmed that this cancer has spread to Mr Hartson's brain.
"We will be commencing a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy as soon as possible and foresee many months of treatment."
His former club Celtic issued a statement of support on their website (http://www.celticfc.net), saying: "It is very difficult for us to understand what John is going through at the moment but we will offer any support we can to a great Celtic player."
Hartson joined the club in 2001 for £6 million and spent five years there, scoring 89 goals. He retired from soccer in February 2008.

Hope adebayor stays, well thats if he can score a good amount of goals...
We do need someone good Chamakh isnt good enough for Arsenal imo.

Lol the Jayson pics had him being active with ladies but always online..
Ben! You know Arsenal can't keep him, Man City have the money to double his wages.
Sunderland have signed Paraguay captain Paulo da Silva on a three-year deal.
The defender, 29, has played more than 50 times for his country and is predominantly a right-sided defender who normally plays in central defence.
He joins from Mexican side Toluca where he was also captain and has previously played football in Europe with Perugia and Venezia in Italy.
Da Silva is new boss Steve Bruce's second signing following Fraizer Campbell's arrival over the weekend.
Bruce said: "I'm delighted to have signed a player of Paulo's experience.
"He is captain of his country and has played at the highest level in South America, so he will bring leadership qualities to our side."

Tbh, who would create a thread of pics of them with their friends, who just so happened to be female? Even if they WERE active with "the ladies" - the last thing they'd do is create a post on a big brother website with pics of them and women.
Even if he is real, that was a little sad LOL.
Tottenham are attempting to hijack Everton's £5m bid for Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton.
Everton hoped Naughton, 21, would undergo a medical and sign over the weekend but it is understood Spurs are now serious rivals for his signature.
Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, with boss Martin O'Neill an admirer of the England Under-21 star.
Everton remain hopeful, while BBC Sport understands Spurs are set to hold talks with Blades' defender Kyle Walker.
The highly rated Naughton was outstanding in Sheffield United's run to the Championship play-off final last season, where the Blades lost to Burnley.
Kent League side Beckenham Town have made an ambitious bid to sign former England striker Teddy Sheringham for their FA Vase games this season.
The 43-year-old played for Millwall, Spurs and Manchester United and ended his career at Colchester last summer.
Chairman Chris McCarthy told the club website: "I'm really hopeful that between us we can it a reality. It's an enormously exciting prospect."
Sheringham recently played a celebrity game at Beckenham's Eden Park Avenue.

when do the champions league group stage draws done?
Football League new boys Burton Albion have been drawn away to Reading in the first round of the Carling Cup.
Elsewhere West Bromwich Albion, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will travel to Bury.
Newcastle and Middlesbrough, who were also relegated into the Championship, received byes for the first round.
Top-flight clubs will not enter the competition until the second round, although teams that have qualified for Europe are introduced a stage later.
That means holders Manchester United as well as Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa and Fulham will enter in the third round.
The final is set to be held at Wembley Stadium on 28 February.
Last season Manchester United beat holders Tottenham 4-1 on penalties in the final at Wembley.

Newcastle have been told by the Football Association not to travel to the Dutch city of Utrecht for a pre-season friendly later this month.
The trip was thrown into doubt after it emerged local rivals Sunderland would be playing in Holland at the same time.
In a statement, the FA said it had "reluctantly withdrawn permission" for Newcastle to face Utrecht on 26 July.
Sunderland are due to play in the Amsterdam Tournament from 24-26 July, some 30 miles away from Utrecht.
Concerns were raised that trouble could be sparked, with supporters of both clubs likely to be booked on the same flights and ferries.
Amsterdam's mayor, Job Cohen, initially called for Sunderland to withdraw from the tournament, but the FA ruled that Newcastle will have to miss out as tickets for Sunderland's trip had already gone on sale.

BECKHAM TO RETURN ?
Former England captain David Beckham would consider a return to the Premier League to boost his chances of playing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who plays for Los Angeles Galaxy, said he would never turn out for another English side when he left Manchester United in 2003.
But in a U-turn, he stated: "Never say never. I would definitely consider it.
"When I left my heart was in Manchester - I couldn't see myself playing against United. Now I wouldn't rule it out."
Beckham has a five-year Major League Soccer contract, which began in 2007 and allows for him to spend the off-season on loan at a European club.
Manchester City are in negotiations to sign Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, BBC Sport understands.
The Togo international, 25, is believed to be on sale for about £25m after two-and-a-half seasons at the London club.
Adebayor, who scored 16 times for the Gunners last season, has also been linked to AC Milan and Chelsea.
City are intent on building a new-look attack and are on the verge of signing Carlos Tevez, while they have already captured Roque Santa Cruz this summer.

West Bromwich Albion have rejected a "derisory" offer from Fulham for their captain Jonathan Greening.
The 30-year-old midfielder has a year left on his deal at The Hawthorns and has been offered a four-year contract.
"We made it abundantly clear at the end of last season that should any players leave, it will be on our terms," said West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace.
"We didn't give Fulham's offer a second thought. It is derisory for a player of Jonathan's talent and experience."
Greening joined the Baggies for £1.25m from Middlesbrough in July 2004 and has made over 200 appearances for the Black Country club.
Celtic and Rangers may be set to mount a bid to take on the broadcasting rights to the Scottish Premier League.
Rangers confirmed the club was in talks with their Old Firm rivals about buying the TV rights to the SPL, following the collapse of Setanta last month.
The Glasgow clubs are unhappy at the deal offered by Sky and ESPN, thought to be worth £65m over five years.
The SPL said it had received no proposals from the Old Firm. Its board will discuss the issue on Thursday.
A spokeswoman for Rangers said: "Rangers and Celtic have had discussions with regard to buying out the SPL television rights.
"Both clubs felt obliged to do this given the offer from Sky and ESPN is so low."
A spokesman for the SPL said: "We have not received a proposal from the Old Firm in relation to our TV rights.
"Until we do so we are not in a position to comment on it."
Regular payments
It has been reported that the Old Firm believe the rights are worth £25m over two years.
Setanta collapsed at the end of the season after failing to meet deadlines for regular payments to both the Premier League in England and its Scottish counterpart.
The SPL decided to seek new partners after the Irish broadcaster reneged on the final payment of £3m which was due to the league for broadcasting live games last season.
Acceptance of any new deal would require all 12 clubs to vote on a formal resolution, which would have to be supported by a majority of at least eight to four.

Munto Finance have completed their takeover of Notts County, reports BBC Radio Nottingham.
Peter Trembling has been named as the club's new chairman and chief executive with Peter Willett alongside him on the board of directors.
Former directors, including chairman John Armstrong-Holmes, have resigned.
Trembling told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Our plans are very straightforward. We want to bring success back to Notts County Football Club."
He added: "We have already voiced our plans for the next five years, and that's very clearly to get us into the Championship.
"It may be that this season is one of consolidation...but without doubt, the concentration, the onus, is on getting up this season."
Rory Delap has signed a one-year contract extension that is set to keep him at Stoke until 2011.
The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder made 36 appearances last season and played a key role in helping the Potters stay in the Premier League.
Delap, who joined Stoke from Sunderland in 2007 following a loan spell, used his long throw-ins to good attacking effect, helping create eight goals.
"I said I'd like to stay here for as long as I can," said a delighted Delap.
"I think we exceeded everybody's expectations last year, apart from our own, and we've got to do it all again next year."

They've finally signed a world class player.
Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard could be back in action for the Premier League club by late September.
The Tigers' £5m record signing had knee ligament surgery early in the year after tearing ligaments just 28 minutes into his debut in January.
The 30-year-old told BBC Radio Humberside: "Every day I can feel it getting stronger and stronger. I've had no pain and no swelling.
"Every so often I try it and I feel confident, and that's a big thing."
He insists he will not rush his return: "In two or three weeks I'll try straight-line running, maybe sooner, I want to get back as soon as possible but I have to be sensible.
"I want to be right when I come back, hit the ground running and make a difference. I'm not going to be far away at the end of September, early October."

Wigan have secured the services of defenders Titus Bramble and Emmerson Boyce on new deals running until 2012.
Bramble, 27, had been linked with a move following ex-Latics manager Steve Bruce to Sunderland but has decided to stay under new boss Roberto Martinez.
"Both are at a great moment in their careers and I think they're best years are still to come," Martinez told the club's website.

Manchester City have completed the signing of ex-Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez for a fee believed to be £25.5m and on a five-year deal.
The Argentine, 25, left Old Trafford last month after rejecting their offer of turning his loan spell with them into a permanent switch.
Tevez said: "City came with a very good proposal and ambition to become one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"It was an easy decision and I am happy to be here."
Tevez was mobbed by joyous City fans on his arrival at Eastlands.
"It's terrific news," said City boss Mark Hughes. "He's an international of the highest class who possesses all the attributes to help drive us forward.
Nigerian players taking part in the Under-17 World Cup will be subjected to MRI bone scans to determine their ages.
Accusations of age cheating have blighted Nigeria's success at international age group tournaments in recent years.
But Sani Lulu Abdullahi, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is confident the MRI test will bring to an end such accusations.
"We will use the MRI bone confirmation tests introduced by Fifa," Lulu told BBC Sport on Tuesday.
"This is important as we want to be sure that we do it correctly and that players who represent Nigeria at underage competitions are actually the ages they claim to be."
Nigeria have won the Fifa Under-17 World Cup three times - 1985, 1993 and 2007 - but fans and media alike have long questioned the ages of some of the player representing the country.
The Golden Eaglets, as Nigeria's under-17 team is known, will be playing in their own backyard in October as they this year's World Cup.
Lulu insists the present squad under John Obuh will be the first set of Eaglets to undergo MRI scans.

LOL at the Nigeria story :joker:
Have you got any football news jayson
A SOCCER yob has been given a Football Banning Order.
Barrow AFC fan Andrew Leitch, 29, has been banned from every football ground in England and Wales for three years.
Leitch, who has followed the Bluebirds since he was 10-years-old, was on trial at Furness Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
His ban follows repeated warnings from police and Barrow AFC officials over his behaviour at matches, both before and after Barrow returned to Conference football last season.
This makes Leitch the second Barrow fan to receive the order from Furness Magistrates. Brett Cihlar, 37, received a three-year ban last September.
Leitch denied a section five public order offence following disorder at Barrow’s home game against Wrexham on Boxing Day. An injury-time equaliser from the visitors prompted Leitch to direct abuse towards Wrexham fans.
PC Matthew Knott and PC Ian Stables, of Cumbria Constabulary’s task force, gave evidence for the prosecution. The officers saw Leitch run towards the Cross Bar end of Holker Street where away fans were stood, segregated from AFC fans by a metal fence. Leitch proceeded to shout and swear in the direction of Wrexham fans.
PC Knott said: “When Wrexham scored he left the position he was stood at and came towards me and my colleague stood at the corner of the Ray Wilkie stand and Cross Bar. He was using intimidating and
aggressive behaviour.
“I told him to calm down on a number of occasions. He then said: ‘What are you going to do about it?”
Mr Ian Huggan, defending, said that by ‘it’ Leitch was referring to Wrexham fans who had come on to the pitch following the goal. He also argued that spectators at a football game
expect swearing and shouting between fans. Leitch was arrested and escorted out of the ground following the incident.
Detective Constable Craig Barrass, of Barrow police’s Area Intelligence Unit, was working at Holker Street on Boxing Day. He saw Leitch in handcuffs as he left the ground.
DC Barrass told the court: “I know Mr Leitch from working at the football. I saw him in the car park behind the Cross Bar. He was handcuffed and he shouted and swore at me aggressively.”
Leitch, appearing in the witness box for the defence, said: “I probably swore at him (DC Barrass).”
Bad character evidence based on Leitch’s behaviour at Barrow home games against Workington and Farsley Celtic was presented to the court.
The prosecution also referred to Barrow’s play-off semi-final against Telford United in the 2007-8 season, during which Leitch was ejected from Telford’s ground, and DVD footage was played showing Leitch in an exchange with police officers outside the Riverside Stadium following the Bluebirds’ FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough in January.
Mr Huggan, defending, said: “Mr Leitch was not arrested on any of these occasions, only at the Wrexham game. He has been following Barrow since the age of 10 and has been involved with sponsoring matches.”
Leitch, of Gatacre Street, Barrow was found guilty of the public order offence. The prosecution then applied for a banning order to be imposed, which magistrates granted. He was also fined £150, ordered to pay £275 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
Speaking after the trial, DC Barrass said: “Barrow police in conjunction with the UK Football Policing Unit are determined to work together to combat disorder at Barrow AFC games. This court result shows that the courts take such disorder seriously and any person involved in such incidents at Barrow AFC games could be liable to a three year football banning order such as Andrew Leitch’s.
There are plenty of ways to annoy an Arsenal fan. Knocking over his or her pint of London Pride into a freshly-opened bag of cheese and onion, for example. Pointing out that the Invincibles weren't technically, you know, invincible. Naming Dennis Bergkamp in a list of Most Overrated Players in the Premier League Era Top 10. Breaking into their house and stealing their collection of Arsène Wenger Toby jugs. Joining Tottenham.
And Patrick Vieira is ready to risk the Gunners' collective wrath by doing just that (join Tottenham, that is. Not Toby jug theft). Harry Redknapp has offered a one-year deal to the still-leggy-but-probably-a-bit-past-it-by-now Inter midfielder. "He is not afraid of the challenge from Spurs," 'a source' tells the Daily Mail today, a statement that can be interpreted any number of ways if you think about it.
Not satisfied with winding up their London neighbours, Spurs are also getting right up Everton's nose. Redknapp has gazumped David Moyes' bid for Sheffield United's Kyle Naughton by offering a hefty £11m for Naughton and fellow Blades defender Kyle Walker. Everton will make themselves feel better with a big box of Quality Street and a £6m move for Marseille's Lorik Cana.
In other OTT double swoop news, Phil Brown is ready to offer £10m for Cardiff's Joe Ledley and Ross McCormack. "Joe Ledley, Ross McCormack and [Sunderland striker] Daryl Murphy are all names who have been bandied around but it is important that we do our business behind the scenes," said the Hull manager, bandying names around rather than doing his business behind the scenes. Brown, though, will miss out on £4m-rated Valerenga striker Mohammed Abdellaoue, who is ready to join Steve Bruce at Sunderland.
Frank Arnesen's first job as Chelsea's sporting director will be to persuade Zlatan Ibrahimovic that west London is the place to be and Xabi Alonso is choosing exactly which font to use for his transfer request at Liverpool after Rafa Benítez demanded he put it in writing. Comic Sans is thought to be among the favourites.
Aston Villa hope to complete a £24m double move for Darren Bent and Stewart Downing this week, while Martin O'Neill will dangle the juicy carrot of Nathan Delfouneso in front of Leeds in order to tempt the sale of Fabian Delph.
Hameur Bouazza + £2.5m = Jonathan Greening and his lovely hair to Fulham.
And finally The Sun reckons Leicester are considering a £750,000 bid for Norwich striker Sammy Clingham - we think they might mean Norwich midfielder Sammy Clingan (yes, pots, kettles, glass houses etc and so on) - and a £1.5m move for Gillingham's Simeon Jackson, while Sheffield United want Kasper Schmeichel to replace the soon-to-be-banned-by-the-looks-of-it Paddy Kenny.
Real Madrid star Raul has likened the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at the club with that of David Beckham.
Real are a club who have become accustomed to welcoming world stars in recent times and Raul believes the former Manchester United pair generated a similar amount of hysteria.
The Spanish giants are in Dublin preparing for the new season, with world record £80million signing Ronaldo set to make his debut against Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium on Monday.
"I was as excited when Beckham started to play with us as I am with the arrival of Cristiano," Raul said.
"I was very happy when I worked with Beckham and I think Cristiano is going to bring a lot of happiness to all the supporters. He will bring very good things and make a great contribution to the team."
Ronaldo has gone on record as saying he was worth the money Real president Florentino Perez spent to sign him, and Raul agrees.
"As regards the price paid for Cristiano, that's the price in the market," he added.
"There are not many Cristiano Ronaldos in the world and Real Madrid has made a great financial effort but Real Madrid wants the best team in the world.
"Cristiano behaves like all the rest of the team, he's a very well-loved player, one of the best players in the world.
"Women and children, they ask him for autographs and he always complies very nicely. What's important is he plays good football and he's very committed and whatever he does in his private life is his own business."
Real do not appear to have finished their summer spending spree yet and continue to be linked with Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Raul said on the subject: "I suppose that's a question for the technical team and the coach. They have to decide what's best for the Real Madrid team.
"Me personally? I would love Alonso to play with us. I think he's a great player."

Heres some little news coming up...
Portuguese giants Sporting Libson have ruled out the possibility of selling captain Joao Moutinho.
The Portugal midfielder has reportedly been a long-term target of Everton, while lavish-spending Real Madrid have also been linked with a move.
Sporting have rejected approaches from Everton for Moutinho, who is understood to have a release clause in his contract in the region of £31million, in the past.
The 22-year-old is thought to be viewed as the player who can help Everton break into the top four in England, but Sporting insist he is not for sale.
"Joao is essential to our project. He is captain and we are not interested in the sale," the club's president Jose Eduardo Bettencourt told Portuguese media.
"Rumours are expected at this time, but Sporting have a very made a very clear decision - Moutinho is indispensable."

Carlos Tevez has been unveiled as a Manchester City player (wearing a rather fetching doily on his head) and he claims that he never received texts from Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. He said: "I was there for two years and Sir Alex never called or sent any text messages in that time. It doesn't seem that this is the way to treat a player in two years at the club."
Lille president Michel Seydoux has revealed Michel Bastos is on the verge of completing a move to Lyon after the Ligue 1 giants made an "exceptional offer".
Bastos has spent three seasons at Lille but only really burst onto the scene last campaign when he fired in 14 goals from midfield.
The Brazilian's impressive form attracted the attention of several clubs, in France and abroad, but Lyon's reported offer of 18million euros (£14m) appears to have clinched the deal.
"We're close to an agreement with OL," Seydoux told L'Equipe TV. "This will be done in the next few days.
"I've opened a window for this player because we received an exceptional offer.
"After three years of good and loyal service, I want to see him continue his progression.
"But he will be absolutely the only departure."
Bastos has yet to win an international cap but Brazil coach Dunga revealed recently he is considering the 25-year-old for the future.
Habib Beye is the latest Newcastle player to speak out against the club's current predicament, saying he feels he must leave for the sake of his career.
The defender was willing to stay and help the Magpies bounce back to the remier League but with the club still no closer to being sold and no manager in lace as a consequence he admits he has little choice other than to move on.
The 31-year-old has established himself as a firm fans' favourite in his two seasons at St James' Park but it now appears he could be set to follow Michael Owen out of the door.
"When I joined from Marseille two years ago, I was so excited to be joining such a big club, it was a dream move," he told The Sun.
"I'd like nothing more than to stay and help the team get back to where it belongs but there is no chance of us being promoted the way things are going.
"Training has been good and no one is slacking or taking it easy. But there is a sense that everything is just drifting.
"This cannot go on it really can't. I feel for the good of my career I have to get away because it is dragging me down."
Beye believes the Magpies should be looking to reappoint Alan Shearer as manager but adds that not even the Magpies hero knows what is going on.
"I'm really upset by what has or rather has not been going on this summer," he confessed.
"It was hard enough dealing with the disappointment of being relegated but things just seem to be going from bad to worse.
"I've spoken to Alan Shearer and I know how much he wanted to get Newcastle back to the Premier League. He is a top man and someone the players believe in.
"He had told us about what he expected when we returned to pre-season training and I left for my holiday fully expecting him to be in charge when I got back.
"But it hasn't happened and he doesn't seem to know what's going on much more than anyone else."

And some more, i'm not sure if its been posted yet.
WAITING GAME FOR ALONSO
Xabi Alonso is edging closer towards a move out of Liverpool to Real Madrid but the midfielder may have to first hand in a transfer request to force through the transfer.
The Spaniard, according to a host of daily nationals as well as the Liverpool Echo, has informed Rafa Benitez that he wants to leave Anfield. However, Real Madrid have yet to offer more than £27m for Alonso and Benitez is reputedly determined to hold out for more than £30m.
The Echo says that 'Alonso could try to force the issue by handing in an official transfer request but the midfielder believes that he deserves to be able to have his future sorted out without taking such formal measures after giving five years of service to the Reds'.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail reports that the telephone call to Benitez in which Alonso informed the Liverpool manager of his desire to leave was made 'less than 24 hours before he married his long-term girlfriend Nagore Aramburu in his home city of San Sebastian on Saturday, where the guests included former Liverpool team-mate Luis Garcia and Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta'.
Mention of Arteta gives F365 the perfect excuse to decorate this story with a picture of the Everton midfielder arriving for the ceremony in the company of his girlfriend, Spanish model Lorena Bernal.
Robbie Fowler is hopeful a frustrating run of injuries is behind him, allowing him to play his first game for North Queensland against Wolves on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old former Liverpool striker has endured a succession of groin and hip injuries since joining North Queensland last February, but coach Ian Ferguson has confirmed his star signing will get a long-awaited run-out against Wolves.
The Fury only arrived in Perth on Monday and were soon put through a light training session where Fowler appeared to be moving freely, untroubled by the recent hip complaint.
"I just got off a plane so just getting the legs going, it feels not too bad to be fair," Fowler said.
"Obviously in terms of fitness, I'm probably miles behind the rest of the lads, (but) as everyone probably knows, you get fitter and a little bit sharper by the more games you play, so I'm hoping to be involved in the game.
"It's been horrible. Anyone will tell you, you go to a new club, you go to a new place, you want to get yourself involved straight away in terms of kicking balls.
"Unfortunately I've not been able to do that so there's a bit of light at the end of the tunnel."
Fowler denied reports he was considering a move back to England with Tranmere to play under former Liverpool team-mate John Barnes.
He said: "You come to a new club and I've sort of kept my head down and not done many interviews the past month, so I just wanted to come and try and get myself fit.
"If people want to write stories, then that's nothing to do with me, the good thing was I came out and quashed it straight away.
"My family have only been in Townsville a week, so those reports saying they're unsettled, I've obviously not got a clue where it comes from.
"But it's a lovely place and I've been there three months and I've enjoyed every minute of it, apart from the injuries."
Think that's it for today on football news

Stupid City..
Adebayor Deal Could Be Worth £70m
Manchester City are reputedly determined to push through the transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor by offering the Arsenal striker a double-your-money deal at Eastlands.
Just over 48 hours after City announced they were no longer pursuing Samuel Eto'o, it is understood that talks between Arsenal and City over Adebayor opened on Monday afternoon. Neither club has yet to comment on the speculation but it's believed that City have offered £20m for the Togo striker.
Determined to hold out for £25m, Arsenal are mindful of AC Milan's interest in Adebayor and one complication in the proposed deal may be the player's reputed preference for moving to Italy. Whether that would remain the case in view of the wages apparently on offer in Manchester remains to be seen. According to The Daily Mail, 'The Togo forward is expected to open talks on a five-year deal worth £170,000 a week' and 'the deal could even be completed today'.
If those figures are correct then the total cost of the deal would be in excess of £70m - a staggering outlay given that the club have already spent over £100m in transfer fees alone this year after completing the purchase of Carlos Tevez on Monday.
The newspaper goes on to speculate that Arsene Wenger is willing to sell because 'has grown tired of what he perceives to be Adebayor's poor attitude'. It is more likely that Wenger is willing to cash in on Adebayor in order to fund further redevelopment of the Gunners' rearguard while pursuing Bordeaux's Morocco striker Marouane Chamakh.
1) 20m Simply isnt enough for someone who can score 20 league goals especially if Alsonso is worth 28m.
2) Chamakh isn't a good replecement.
3) I was extecting the price to have gone up when i read the title but nothings changed.
4) I hope he doesn't leave.
I think we have a chance to come top 3 this season, without him i think we would struggle to stay in top 4.

More than Utd and Liverpool seem to have at the moment.
Chelsea will win this season i reckon.
With Arsenal/ liverpool/ man utd 2nd, could easily go to any of them.

you predict the scores.
1 point for getting like weather a certain team wins or loses, or draws,
5 points if you get the score right to.

Birmingham City are close to signing former Scotland captain Barry Ferguson from Rangers.
The Barclays Premier League newcomers, managed by former Rangeres boss Alex McLeish, hope to complete the transfer, for about £1m to £1.5m, on Wednesday.
Ferguson had been poised to join West Brom, but that move collapsed when it became apparent that manager Tony Mowbray was leaving to join Celtic.
The 31-year-old was fined and stripped of the Rangers captaincy last season.
It followed a breach of discipline while on Scotland duty in April that also led to an end to his international career.
He was dropped by Rangers manager Walter Smith but returned for their last three games of the season as they overtook Celtic to win the Scottish Premier League and lift the Scottish Cup.
A tearful Ferguson, who is entering the last year of his contract, was coy about his future as Rangers celebrated victory over Falkirk after the cup final at Hampden.
Assistant manager Ally McCoist was also quoted as saying there was a possibility that Ferguson could remain at Rangers next season.
Ferguson, a product of Rangers' youth system, previously spent 18 months in England's top flight with Blackburn Rovers, who paid £7.5m for the former Scotland captain.
However, he returned to Ibrox for £3m less after an injury-hit spell at Ewood Park.
Blackburn are to hand Italian striker Christian Vieri another chance to earn a contract at Ewood Park after he impressed during a recent trial spell.
The 36-year-old ex-Juventus and Inter Milan star spent a week with Rovers at a pre-season training camp in Austria and will join them on tour in Italy.
He is a free agent after leaving Atalanta at the end of last season.
"We'll see how long he wants to give it to see if he can get to Premier League level," said Rovers boss Sam Allardyce.
"We'll take as long as it needs, hopefully to get there in the end."
Blackburn are looking for a striker to fill the gap left by the departure of Roque Santa Cruz, who has moved to Manchester City.
Emmanuel Adebayor has passed a medical and will move to Manchester City once his work permit is approved.
The Togo striker, who has spent three-and-a-half seasons at Arsenal, is believed to be valued at £25m.
The 25-year-old, who scored 16 times for the Gunners last season, has also been linked to AC Milan and Chelsea.
City boss Mark Hughes said as Carlos Tevez was unveiled: "There have been discussions and possibly a deal to be done but nothing has been concluded."
Speaking at the press conference to announce the signing of the former Manchester United striker, Hughes admitted that there could be more arrivals at the big-spending club before the start of the season.
"It may well be that opportunities will present themselves. We still have areas we want to strengthen," he said.
City are intent on building a new-look attack and as well as Tevez have also added Paraguayan Roque Santa Cruz to their ranks this summer, having signed Craig Bellamy last season.

Middlesbrough are believed to have agreed a fee in the region of £12m for the transfer of England winger Stewart Downing to Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old has made over 200 appearances for his home-town club since making his debut in 2002.
He is currently recovering from foot surgery, which is likely to sideline him until October at the earliest.
His future at Boro had been the subject of much speculation since the club's relegation to the Championship in May.
Downing, who has 23 England caps, signed a new five-year deal in February 2008 but, with Middlesbrough struggling last season, he had a written transfer request rejected in January.
ngland striker Peter Crouch is locked in transfer talks with Sunderland after they agreed a £12m deal with Portsmouth, BBC Sport understands.
The 28-year-old is also a target for Fulham boss Roy Hodgson as he prepares to rake in £5m from the sale of Bobby Zamora to Hull City.
Fulham boss Hodgson may hold the trump card with Crouch reportedly keen to move to London.
Bruce said: "He is a player I have admired for a very long time."
The Black Cats' boss refused to be drawn further on the deal, saying: "We hope we can try to put something together because he would be the type of player of course that would signal our intention of the way we want to take the football club forward."
Asked directly if a fee had been agreed, Bruce said: "I don't understand that just yet, but I have just come off the training ground.
"I haven't been told anything to the contrary. I will be getting back to work in the next couple of hours and we'll see. I know discussions at high levels were going on late last night, so we'll see and I'll be able to tell you more in the next 24 hours."
Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie was unhappy with Crouch's recent criticism of the club having not yet appointed a permanent manager to take over from Paul Hart.
Storrie insisted that was not possible while a proposed takeover by United Arab Emirates businessman Sulaiman Al Fahim was still under discussion.
Al Fahim has now completed the process of due diligence and is now trying to agree a figure with Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak.
Fulham have accepted a £5m bid from Hull City for striker Bobby Zamora.
Tigers manager Phil Brown turned his attention towards the 28-year-old after Manchester United's Frazier Campbell opted to join Sunderland.
Brown also missed out on Marc-Antoine Fortune, who signed for Celtic, but has said the club are close to a deal for Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy.
Zamora joined Fulham from West Ham last summer but scored only two goals in 35 league appearances for the Cottagers.
The former England Under-21 international made his name with Brighton but he failed to establish himself after a move to Tottenham

Maybe £12m is a little bit too much, maybe £8m - £11m would be nearer the mark.
I hope Saha stays fit this season

Arsenal turn to Madrid's £17m Huntelaar as Bordeaux demand Silvestre swap in Chamakh deal
Arsene Wenger could move for Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after being told by Bordeaux that any bid for Marouane Chamakh would have to include Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.
Emmanuel Adebayor is set for a switch to Manchester City, leaving Wenger in desperate need of a replacement as the £25million transfer could be sealed today.
Chamakh, who is entering the final year of his contract, is the Arsenal manager's preferred signing but the transfer could be complicated by the French club's insistence that Silvestre moves the other way.
That could scupper the move as it is thought Wenger is reluctant to let Silvestre, 31, leave even though he has six centre-backs - including £10million signing Thomas Vermaelen - plus the versatile Alex Song.
Chamakh, 25, is valued at £7million but if Wenger fails to lure him then he may turn to Huntelaar, although that would set him back £17million.
The Dutch striker is surplus to requirements at Real following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema and is stalling over a move to Stuttgart in the hope Arsenal make an offer for him.
Huntelaar rejected moves to Lyon - as part of the deal that took Benzema to Spain - and Marseille, while AC Milan have cooled their ardour after showing an interest in the 25-year-old last summer.
Wenger is an admirer of Huntelaar, who would relish the chance to link up with compatriot Robin van Persie.
Although Stuttgart are confident of landing their man, the player's agent invited bids from other clubs by revealing that the transfer is far from concluded.
'The German club has reached an agreement with Real, but not with us,' said agent Arnold Oosterveer.
'We have to talk. The player needs to evaluate not only the economic aspect, but also the sporting one.'
Adebayor, meanwhile, is expected to have a work permit hearing preceded by a medical in Manchester today as the two clubs put the finishing touches to his transfer to Eastlands.
The player's personal terms remain a stumbling block with Adebayor thought to be holding out for £170,000 a week - a figure which would make him the highest paid player in the League and more than double his current wages.
He would play well with Van Persie..
Goal scoring record, 92 games 76 goals!!!
amazing.
Arsenal should Snap Huntelaar up as quick as they can
Great replacement for adebayor

£12m aint that much in the current state of affairs. Fulham are after him too so it could be a bidding war anyway.
Crouch is a useless heap of **** though

Downing is not over-rated and is definitely not terrible. He will do well for Aston Villa because they will make good use of him.

Downing is sh!t :(
Arsenal have lost out in their bid to sign Felipe Melo from Fiorentina, with the Brazil midfielder opting to sign for Juventus instead.
Juventus have paid 20.5m euros (£17.6m), plus winger Marco Marchionni.
"I believe a lot in this side. It has been reinforced and can rival any team," said the 26-year-old Melo.
Fiorentina had said they would be interested in selling Melo to Arsenal if they received full-back Emmanuel Eboue in return.
