Johnny Cash is far from dire. I love it. He is like the badass outlaw drinking whiskeys in the Westerns that nobody wants to approach. I hope his character development doesn't stop at that. He could speed it up a little on the way to the ring and drop the ring steps spot I reckon and it would fit the pace of the tune much better. Or better yet keep the ring steps spot and bring back the scary ass pop sound he used to do in 1997. It's nice how in the twilight of his career his gimmick is now sort of coming full circle to what Vince originally wanted from him as a fan of the Western schtick.

Given the roll Smackdown is on at the moment I think a new authority figure would do it wonders. Teddy Long has been an image of the show ingrained in my brain for far too long now and it's desperately predictable these days that his theme will hit and he will swagger out during the first ten minutes of the show to interrupt whatever interesting thing is happening in the ring in order to be a bit black and set up a match for all the great Smackdown fans.

After the match, Alberto Del Rio came in and started attacking the World Heavyweight Champion. Christian came out and made the save before Teddy Long came out. Long announces Del Rio will face Christian in a Steel Cage Match later tonight.

* Backstage, Big Show and Kane attempt to chokeslam one another but neither can execute the move.

-- Dixie Carter, who has been quiet on Twitter lately, was in attendance for last week's Victory Road pay-per-view and then Monday's iMPACT tapings but then left for Mexico.

-- As noted before, Jeff Hardy's March 16th court date was re-scheduled to April 20th. The Southern Pines Pilot has more details on the state waiting for testing results from the drugs that were found at Hardy's home in 2009.

Hardy's attorney was ready to take a plea bargain this past week but the District Attorney told him that they were still waiting on test results from the drugs. The DA wanted a June 2nd hearing but the judge asked if they could be ready in 30 days and Hardy's lawyer said he could. The judge ordered that the test results be rushed and then set the court date for next month. With Hardy's lawyer ready to accept a plea deal, it sounds like the case will finally be coming to an end.

* Smackdown starts off with a backstage segment where Teddy Long is telling Edge that if he or Alberto Del Rio touch either other before Wrestlemania they will both be banned from the event.

* Rey Mysterio b. CM Punk
- Rey had a quick start to the match then missed a flying cross body allowing CM to control. Punk mainly focusing attacks on the ribs of Rey. Eventually he goes for an attack off the ropes but Rey countered with a dropkick to gain the upper-hand. Rey hit CM with an Asia moonsault. Cody Rhodes comes in as a distraction and the match ends in disqualification. Rey is helped out of the ring by officials.

* Edge and Christian are shown backstage. Edge says he's still going to be in the corner for Christian tonight. He walks away.

* Edge vs. Drew McIntyre
- As soon as the bell ring Edge goes after Drew. Drew quickly gains the upper-hand working on Edge's arm. Edge eventually gains control and wins via his finished. After the match Edge connects with a spear.

* LayCool b. Rosa Mendez & Kelly Kelly
- Layla has the Snooki hair do and they were both fist pumping they are also not even wearing their ring gear. Rosa and Kelly go straight for the attack. Quick match ending when Layla hits a reverse neck breaker for the win. After the match Laycool cut a quick promo saying that their opponents for Wrestlemania are no challenge.

* Wade Barrett b. Kofi Kingston to win the Intercontinental Championship.
- Kofi was going for trouble in paradise but ref got distracted. He connected trouble on heath allowing Wade to hit wasteland following a pinfall. After the match Justin hit a 450 splash.

* Teddy Long & Albero Del Rio are backstage.

* Undertaker is on stage cutting a promo. He says that Triple H has figured out how to win. He then says he can't wait till Monday to tell Triple H what he thinks.

* Jake Swagger b. R-Truth
- R-Truth had a close call... He launched himself over top rope and it looked like Swagger barely caught him. Quick match winner via ankle lock, Swagger.

* Christian w/ Edge b. Alberto Del Rio
- Alberto has Brodus Clay with him. During the match Brodus attacked Edge on the outside. Edge returns the favor with spear then attacks him with a chair. This distracts Alberto allowing Christian to hit the Kill Switch for the win. Edge looks like hes gonna attack Alberto with the chair but Christian stops him. He hits Alberto with the chair instead. That concludes this week's SmackDown.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon-LeVesque have informed key members of the WWE writing team to expect Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to be appearing in a WWE ring, only not as Wrestlemania host, but as an active participant in a match coming soon.

"This is breaking behind the scenes," a key WWE insider told us late this evening, "If there was a way to properly build and advertise it, I bet they'd make the Wrestlemania match with Cena and Miz into a three-way with The Rock. But Vince is determined to make a potential Rock return mean a lot more than Bret Hart's return, or anyone else's return. Vince sees Rock's involvement this year as a major saving grace for Wrestlemania, and he wants to capitalize on it as big as he can."

No timetable is set, although the speculation for SummerSlam is either "right on target," according to the insider, "or just the next step towards next year's Wrestlemania."

It's being reported that The Rock's return to WWE thus far has worked out much better than both sides ever expected it to. As we first reported in an exclusive you can read if you CLICK HERE, WWE is already anticipating Rock vs John Cena, and it looks as if The Miz will be involved in the mix as well.

While WWE is keeping a very tight lid on what future plans The Rock has with the company, it's being said that The Rock has enjoyed his WWE return so much that he is indeed open to working a few more matches with the company. If Cena vs Rock does not take place first, then the feeling is that Rock vs Miz will be The Rock's first bout, with Cena vs Rock happening at a later date.

world wrestling entertainment released their top producer/agent dave finlay yesterday, pwinsider.com has confirmed.

The story making the rounds is that the miz was booked to come out and interrupt the national anthem during a house show in champaign, il over the weekend in order to cut a promo that would set up himself vs. Randy orton to open the card. There were a number of representatives for the national guard, who are a huge partner and sponsor for wwe, in attendance. Obviously, they were not pleased with the anthem being used to get heel heat.

When word made it's way back to wwe management, the decision was made to release finlay, who as the top producer of the show, "had to fall on the sword", as it was described to me.
