Problem with Klose is, he only ever scores against the poor nations.
I'll put my team up when I have more free time.
I'm not looking forward to the next domestic season, well I am but...I have a funny feeling that Plymouth are heading for League 1 this season.
Good luck to Plymouth next season sol and i know how you feel being one of the smaller clubs in championship from when Gillingham were in there, personally i would love us to get into the championship again but realise we would probably only struggle because we can't afford the wages to get in big players unlike the bigger clubs.

Looks like no verdict still in the Italian Corruption case.
Oh my god, Plymouth drew 0-0 with Tiverton Town :blush2::blush2:  - great start for Ian Holloway
Stevenage lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace. One of the trialist's,Tony Thorpe had a goal ruled out wrongly for offside just before half time which would have made it 1-1.
BigSister

we lost 3-2 to Burnley winning 2-0 as well at half time
We are playing Luton on saturday.Another chance to look at our 8 trialist's.

Had it down as 4-0 Plymouth on TV this morning :puzzled:
I went to the Folkestone v Gillingham friendly last night, we won 2-0 and our new signings and trialists looked very useful, get some more games under their belts and we will have a good bunch for next season.
Did a lad called Craig Dobson play for Gills,Mike? He's meant to be on trial with both Stevenage and Gillingham.
Yeah Craig Dobson played, from what i saw he is a very good player.
He's ended up signing for us today
Stevenage Borough have today completed a double signing. Striker Tony Thorpe joins from Colchester and winger Craig Dobson joins from Cambridge City.
Both join Boro on 2 year contracts after impressing manager Mark Stimson this week. Former Luton man Thorpe, 32 was the subject of a £1m move to Bristol City and an £800,000 move to Fulham. He has been a prolific scorer in the Football League, scoring 137 times in 288 appearances and brings a weath of experience to Boro.
Craig Dobson is a 22 year old pacy right sided winger who won the Nike UK Free Skills competition 5 years ago and has played his recent football at Lewes and Cambridge City after appearing briefly for Barnet. Boro agreed a small 4 figure fee with Cambridge City for his transfer.

thats 7 now dan well done
Yeah that doesn't suprise me Dan, our manager said in an interview he won't be signing him, unless our current winger (Matty Jarvis) leaves then unfortunately he would probably have started as sub most games for us.
Oh right Mike.I think he'll be a 1st team regular for us,might even get a few more caps for Jamaica.
He will do a great job for you, got good skill and very quick.
He's meant to have improved a great deal since he got released by Crystal Palace.I am looking forward to him making his debut on saturday. We've got a lad on trial who was at Gills a few years ago Mike, he's called Dean Bradshaw, not sure if you remember him, don't think he played a great deal.
I know the name but can't say i ever saw him play.

Juve Relegated To Serie B'
According to reports emerging from Italy, Juventus have been relegated to Serie B with a 15-points deduction for their part in the match-fixing scandal. Lazio & Fiorentina will also be demoted, while AC Milan will stay in Serie A but thrown out of the CL
InTheHood
14-07-2006, 12:11 PM
Yup, heard........
Juventus - Serie B -20 points
Lazio - Serie B -10 points
Fiorentina - Serie B -10 points
Milan - Serie A -15 points, out of Europe
Obviously the other 3 will be out of Europe too.
Final verdict 6pm tonight!
Wow that is shocking, guess its what they deserve though.

That's strange, on the official website it said 0-0, maybe I looked at the wrong result or something.
4-0 sounds more like it, but don't mark my words - Plymouth can sometimes play dreadful football and othertimes be amazing.

Juventus to Serie B and start with -30 points
Lazio to Serie B and start with -7 points
Fiorentina to Serie B and start with -12 points
Milan stay in Serie A and start with - 15 points
Roma, Chievo and Palermo likely to be promoted into Champions League
Not sure what 3 sides will replace the 3 relegated. Possibly the 3 sides who actually were relegated originally (Lecce, Messina and Treviso)
BigSister

I heard as well they might just leave the relegated clubs relegated
Glad they were heavily punished.I thought they might get away with less.it's potentially better for English clubs in the champions league with AC Milan and Juve not a part of it.

I was thinking there that Juventus might struggle to avoid relegation again with a -30 points fine, but it appears they play 42 games in Serie B so they should avoid the drop again, assuming they keep a good team.
Makes me wonder what football would be like with handicapping?

New Stevenage kit.
Stevenage's strike force suddenly looked quite good
 I was wondering who was going to be the first to make that joke.
We Lost 2-1 to Luton.
1st half we went a goal down after a few mins, header by Brkovic, defending was a bit sloppy. From then on we played really well, knocked the ball out and created some good chances.Dale Binns looked **** hot, took on 4/5 Luton players before his shot was blocked and went out for a corner.Boyd,Stamp and Kitchen looked sharp.Luton got a goal just before half time, really against the run of play but a good strike from Chris Coyne.
Second half we kept Bulman,Stamp,Miller and Binns on for about 15-20 mins Hatton, Nurse,Thorpe and Lewis replaced them.It was fairly even second half.Dobson did well down the right.Nurse crossed for Thorpe to head in.
Overall I think we pretty much matched them.
Stevenage Borough have awarded a 2 year contract to 18 year old striker Hector Mackie. The young forward trialled at West Brom, Reading and Spurs last year.
Manager Mark Stimson has been following his development closely for 2 years and feels the youngster has done enough in the last 4 weeks of trials to earn a professional contract.
A club spokesperson said "Mark is well known for giving young players an opportunity. Hector has pace, strength and determination and is keen to carve out a career as a professional footballer"
Well that's the 20th member of the squad now, done well in both pre-season game's so happy with the signing.Only 3 players needed now imo.

It looks like Crawley Town wont be going out of business.
From the crawley site.......
The Administrators are pleased to announce that the Club has received a last minute opportunity to stay in the Nationwide Conference.
Whilst bids were being sought for the sale of the Club's assets, a significantly improved sum to be paid to the creditors was offered by the current owners. The offer could not be ignored and was put to the Creditors' Committee for their views. Following extensive discussions with the Committee, the vote to pursue the new offer was split one for and one against with two abstentions. As no serious offers for the assets of the Club have been forthcoming, the Administrators have decided that the offer should be pursued.
The offer will see a return to unsecured creditors of 50 pence in the pound, although it is yet to be approved by the general body of creditors through a Company Voluntary Arrangement. It is sincerely hoped that the fans will be pleased that the Club is a step closer to staying in the Nationwide Conference and achieving some stability. Following the joint statement previously issued by the Supporters Club and Devils Trust offering support for the current owners, subject to certain assurances, the Administrators wish that all parties will now work with the common goal of achieving the best future for Crawley Town Football Club.
Both the Supporters Club and Devils Trust, whilst not always agreeing with the Administrators, have played their part in the process and should be applauded. All have the survival of the Club within the Nationwide Conference at heart.
The Club's next step is to comply with the rules and regulations of the Football Conference and Football Association in order to start the new season.
This announcement is given by the Administrators to make the fans the first to know their decision and correspondence will not be entered into on this forum.
Good news for them, at least we will get to play next saturday now.

Personally I preferred Riises 60 yard run and shot that put the mighty reds in the lead! Liverpool left Gerrard and Alonso out and we still won! Chelsea are only short of fitness due to their money making schemes in America and it's bad management to be short of fitness this close to the start of the season. Another win against the enemy!

Chelsea didn't have Gallas, Makelele or Cech for the whole game & lost Ballack early on. Cech would have saved Riise's shot. Great run, average shot, woeful attempt by Cudicini to stop it. Liverpool's 2nd goal was well created, and Shevchenko's goal was as well, he will challenge Henry for the top scorer award. Can't see a Liverpool striker hitting 20+ unless they sign someone.
Chelsea will still win the League comfortably, and judging by the comparison of Chelsea and Liverpool fans in the crowd, to one team it meant the world, to the other it was a Mickey Mouse cup.
Y'know I've always thought Eugene would back Crawley financially, but I guess I was wrong

Judging by the crowd Liverpool have far superior fans to Chelski. Every team has filled their end more than Chelski did yesterday in the previous history of the community shield. Chelski have no history and are just an average sized club with barely enough fans to fill their stadium. Whereas Liverpool are a massive club with a massive worldwide fan base and sold out their ticket allocation.
Terry was at fault for both of the goals so you can't just blame Cudicini. Lampard and Ballack don't seem to fit in the same team, selection head aches there for sure! Gerrard and Alonso are two of the best midfielders in the world so I doubt Makelele compares to their absense. But Shevchenko looks set to be a revelation in the premiership so it's not all bad.
We don't care about the community shield, we just care about beating Chelski and laying waste to their fantasy football millionaires team. I dunno if you noticed but a young 21 year old completely dominated the Chelski midfield, Momo Sissoko added to Gerrard and Alonso with the added pace of Bellamy and Gonzalez and the assists from Pennant plus a new prolific striker we are possibly bringing in I think we are well positioned for a title push. Chelski are still the team to beat though, but they are are definately beatable.

Liverpool are a bigger club, but then what's football if smaller club's can't have their chance? Manchester United are England's biggest club, yet they don't have the divine right to be champions every year. The fact is Chelsea did not care about winning. They care only about The Premiership and Champions League, and destroying Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield :joker: I also disagree that Liverpool fans are superior. They have a hooligan element (Heysel) and they always cheer when a serious injury to an opponent, i've heard the songs about Riise breaking Smith's leg.
Anyway, one game means nothing. An average Benfica side beat Liverpool in two legs last season, doesn't mean they are a better side. Lampard and Ballack cannot be judged on one game together, the 1-4 victory at Liverpool last season, Carragher and Hyypia were ripped apart, but most of the remiander of the season, they were excellent.
Bellamy will be injured before long, as usual, or arrested for beating a woman in a nightclub, and Pennant will be back inside on more drink driving offences, so don't hold your breath with them. Gonzalez could be the part, we'll see, he's already saved Liverpool against an Israeli side, they should have beat by at least 4 on paper. I wouldn't rely on Sissoko either, he's a massive candidate for red cards and couldn't hack it in Spain, the world's best league.
Chelsea will win the league, and I suspect Arsenal will finish runners up. Rosicky is the best signing of the summer.
Sorry, I just don't think Liverpool or Man Utd have what it takes this season. Neither have a top class striker (yet) and as a Dutchman, I assure you Kuijt will not be the answer, and anyway, he's already said he'd prefer Newcastle to Liverpool, so may not be an option. Liverpool have far too many 'on the day' performers, and the new signings are just that.
Shame you did not get Simao, as he's 10 times the player Pennant is, a player not good enough for Arsenal.
If you sign a top striker and some cover for Alonso and Gerrard (Zenden is not adequate) then you may get within 6 points of Chelsea.
Ballack will prove his class, the guy is one of the most complete midfielders in the world, Shevhenko will score for fun, Makelele will come back, Cech will come back, and it'll be Gallas or Ashley Cole at LB. Kalou is an amazing talent, Joe Cole to come back as well, Chelsea have an embarrasment of riches and Diarra and Mikel are 2 kids who will be the mutts nuts as well.
It would be good to get a Liverpool team and Man Utd team able to challenge, but the likes of Kewell, Bellamy, Crouch, Fowler, Saha, Solskjaer are not going to win anyone anything. They are either past it or simply not top class for a big club like the 2 mentioned. United have Rooney, but he can't do it on his own.
I don't support Chelsea, but don't mind them having money, no other club would refuse to be bankrolled like them, but due to jealousy, people can't handle it.
First thing for your team though, is to get qualified for Champions League. It's not done and dusted yet, although the fact the 2nd leg is on neutral territory, will help Liverpool.
I'll remain unconvinced. Pre-season Liverpool were beaten by 3 weak sides, with a pretty strong team out.
Be good to see a 4 way battle though, so wish your team luck, even if I don't see it happening.

Such a long post and not one reply to tell me how great Liverpool are, how Florent Sinama-Pongolle is better than Ronaldinho, and how Manchester United will be relegated this season.
Don't worry Ollie, I'm not talking about you, but another poster who thinks Pele was never a patch on Igor Biscan
Anyway, who are everyone's teams playing next time out
ADO Den Haag away is our 1st game.
Danny Wintjens, Michael Dingsdag (aka Thug!), Gianni Zuiverloon (The signing of the summer! why did Feyenoord let him go?), Afonso Alves (prolific in Sweden!), Rob Friend, Will Johnson & Recoba (Not Alvaro!) are the newbies. Biggest loss is Arnold Bruggink to Hannover, but Bosvelt and Hansson aside 36 & 29) no player is over 26, so potential everywhere!
Is Ugur Yildirim still with you lot? I've seen him a couple times and he looked a decent player.

One of the best free kick takers you'll see. Doubt he will be with us much longer though. Will move to a bigger club, both don't ever envisage seeing him at a really big club. Maybe Feyenoord/Monaco/Leverkusen kind of level.

Nah, don't support Chelsea. I enjoy seeing the big boys getting beat, but by smaller sides, not another big team.
When I first came to England, in the 80's, Liverpool were the best team to watch. They played with grace and were a super side.
Now they have Bellamy, Pennant, Sissoko, Crouch, Finnan, Kewell etc, who wouldn't be fit to lace the players from the 80's boots. Liverpool don't attract the cream of the crop anymore.
Arsene Wenger is the god in the transfer market though. Eboue, Toure (who was a midfielder, now one of best CB's in Prem!) Fabregas, Rosicky, Henry (was an average winger!), Djourou, Senderos.

Every club has a hooligan element and it was only because of our fierce rivalry with Maure. I don't know what happened when we lost 4-1, but we were crap at the start of the season and we accumilated the most points of anyone from October onwards which bodes well for this season. I can assure you we enjoyed knocking them out of the Champions league and FA Cup semi finals as well!
Sissoko got at least one champions medal in Spain when he was still a teenager so I urge you to swot up a bit on Spanish football before you talk about it! A few red cards never hurt Keane or Viera did it? Bellamy will not stuff up again now he's at his favourite club and Pennant kept his nose clean all last season. Gonzalez ripped the Spanish defenses apart last season so when he settles in he's gonna be sensational.
I've no doubt Ballack is a top class player but him and Lampard playing together robs Chelski of all their width, they were awful before he was injured and Lmpard played alot better when he went off. Shevchenko is the top striker They've been crying out for but I can see alot of unhappy egos being damaged.
Frendlies mean nothing, grudge matches mean only slightly more we'll have to wait and see. I do think that if we sign a prolific striker we have a shot at the league but I think we're puting too much pressure on Bellamy to score. So I really hope we do sign another striker that Rafa has hinted at.

I'm sure you did enjoy beating them (With the goal that never crossed the line)
Asking me to sot up on my Spanish football is a bit personal? Considering I could tell you the Segunda B sides off the top of my head, I think you'll need to find a better argument, especially as Quinton Fortune, Geremi, Bernard Diomede have all won medals, and I suggest you look at how many minutes he played in that season, and how many last 10 minute sub appearances he made. He was poor in the best league in the world, and even the commentators were making comments about how out of depth he was. Now he is in a weaker league, he may do better, over a consistent amount of time.
Don't count on it with Bellamy, Pennant was arrested last August, and appeared in court in February 2006. I wouldn't say Gonazalez ripped all Spanish defences apart, he was quite poor in a few games, but good in others. He looks like an inconsistent winger. Matias Fernandez is the better Chilean prospect.
Chelsea will play with width, with 5 in midfield behind Shevchenko. Makelele, Lampard and Ballack, with Cole and Robben wide, plenty of width.
You need to sign a new striker, no doubt whatsoever, but no-one top international wants to sign so far, even Kuijt prefers Newcastle, which even I find strange.

You see that type of comment really makes me think you're a Chelski fan in disguise. You sound exactly like Mourinho! If the goal was dissallowed we would have been given a penalty instead. So it's immaterial.
Personal? You're a bit sensitive aren't you? Just because you know the teams doesn't mean you know the players. I think he should be judged alongside other players of his age. Can you name any teenage defensive midfielders who have taken the Spanish league by storm? He had a good run of games last season and IMO he's impoved a hell of a lot and is one of the Premierships most underated players.
Also considering Gonzalez was the key reason Sociedad survived relegation he definately looks a great prospect.
We haven't went in with a proper bid for another striker yet so I'm not really sure what you're basing that opinion on. It does seem that you have something against Liverpool though so that's probably it.
Good to see England get back to winning ways, it would have been nice to see us get another couple of goals in the second half but still i'm not going to complain, already i much prefer the Mclaren approach to Sven Goran Erikkson.

Yeah I know good performance in first half would have been nice to get another goal in first half but clean sheet was good as well and hopefully*crosses fingers* but it was the first game and everything looks ok after afirst win
Karim Touzani seems to be fitting in well into the Dons team. I wasn't at the Motherwell game, but from the match reports it still sounds like we were the lesser team. I'm genuinely concerned for us, we might be in a good position right now but I'm just waiting for our first loss to escalate into 10 on the trot! Anderson's been pretty good this season and I was chuffed about Mackie's brace; I've met him a few times (he even knows my name! :spin:) and he's a really nice guy, so it's always good to see him tap one in. Have I ever mentioned Russell Anderson, our captain, was in my brother's year at school and was EVEN at our house? :O

You got personal questioning my knowledge, as all people do when the debate gets too hot for them. And if you know Spanish football that well, you'll know Valencia used him as an attacking midfielder, often coming on in the last few minutes of games to waste time, often with Mista being sacrificed, to accomodate 4-5-1. As for teenage midfielders, Raul Garcia, turned 20 over the summer, probably the best young Spanish midfielder in the Primera Division, plays for Osasuna, you may or may not have heard of him, but Manchester United and Real Madrid have been interested for some time. Iniesta of Barca, Arzu of Betis came through at 19, Cesar Arzo of Villarreal when 17, now 20 he has joined Huelva on loan. This year Javi Martinez of Bilbao and Diego Capel of Sevilla will come through too. Spain is awash with midfield talent, they just never go on and help Spain win anything at senior level.
I did agree a few posts back that Gonzalez looks a great prospect, although i'd argue Nihat was there best player, but both have now left. But do keep an eye out for Matias Fernandez anyway.
Regardless of whether or not Liverpool have said they want Kuijt, the player has said he prefers Newcastle. As for disliking Liverpool, I dislike some of the players, like I do at many clubs. I'm not even English, so cannot dislike a team the way you would about Chelsea. I just remember the great Liverpool sides, and this is not one of them.

It's not unusual for football suporters to support foreign teams you know! If all the best players left the Premiership then I might be looking elsewhere too! That's what happens in Holland isn't it?
If Valencia used Sissoko as an attacking midfielder and used him mostly as a sub then it's no wonder he didn't flourish!
Alot of young Spanish players are linked with moves to Premiership clubs but a move hardly ever materialises. Iniesta looks a good prospect but the rest are unproven.
I thought you said alot of international strikers had turned down Liverpool? Kuyt hasn't turned us down and I can't think of any other strikers who have either. Kuyt actually said that he'd like to join a Premiership team LIKE Newcastle. Not that he wanted to go there above anywhere else. In fact he's been reported as saying that he ONLY wants to go to Liverpool now he has found out we are serious about buying him. Newcastle have admitted they really want him and they've said we're going in for him too.
The manager of Newcastle was raving about how good Kuyt was, then he suddenly changes his mind. This is because we're going to sign him and he doesn't want to look stupid.
Look at a quote from him:
Then the interviewer said so it is Liverpool then to reitterate the point at which point Kuyt said "it is my dream club, I cannot say anymore than that, you can say more but I can't but soon I hope I can say more".
Think about it, who the hell would wanna go to Newcastle instead of Liverpool! The only reason Owen did was because we weren't gonna pay 17 million for him!

Firstly, support a team from your own country, secondly, don't glory hunt. I support a team from my own country and It's the team where I spent time living, not to mention it's not one of the big 3. I have no real interest in Chelsea, but know a good team when I see one. However if you could tell me now, another team other than the big 4 would be contesting the title, i'd cheer them all the way. I love it when the big boys are beaten. For sure Dutch players leave the Dutch League, but i'm not going to support another side and be disloyal to my own. I've seen many people change teams and many support teams from other towns/cities/countries, but you can only support one side and love for one. Even if they do wear hearts on their shirts (literally!) Just like better players leave Holland, the cream of the crop end up in Spain. The additions the league has made this summer, make it an even stronger league.
To be fair, Sissoko wasn't there long enough. As for the others being unproven, neither is Sissoko really. A couple I mentioned have played longer than Sissoko in a better league. It may be that Sissoko turns into a top notch player, but he's far from that yet.
I said, Kuijt would prefer Newcastle.
Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt has reportedly indicated that his dream move would be to Newcastle.
Liverpool are also believed to be chasing the £10million-rated Feyenoord hitman, who could be set for a switch to the Premiership.
But Kuyt appears to have delivered a snub to the Reds. He is quoted as saying: "I know quite a bit about Newcastle, they're one of the best supported teams in the Premier League and a typical English club.
"Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt has reportedly indicated that his dream move would be to Newcastle. .
Kuijt/Kuyt, whatever way you want depending on what site.
Although I'll admit, offer a player a bit of money or if one team loses interest, they usually change their mind.
I will agree however, who would want to go to Newcastle? (Sorry Geordies!) One poster on here was adamant that Owen would be in a Liverpool shirt this summer. His injury has stopped any hope of that, although, Rafa wasn't exactly keen on him. His efforts to buy him were small.
Anyway, we agree on something :joker:
Btw, Liverpool could be top on Saturday lunchtime if they avoid defeat at Sheff Utd :joker:
I don't think Liverpool should go for Kuyt, he has done well in Holland but hasn't really looked upto it at international level even though he is sometimes played out of posistion. He seems like a very hard working striker though so I will give him credit for that but I don't think he is upto the challenge of the premier league.I think Van Huntelaar looks the better prospect and he's a few years younger than Kuyt.

Which team do you support?
Kuyt has signed for us now, despite Newcastles best efforts to get him. Rafa only signs players who show loyalty and enthusiasm which is a reason why he never wanted Owen back. Newcastle offered him £90,000 a week! Yet he still came to us on about £40,000 to £50,000 a week. And given that he would have stayed at Feyenoord happily that's the kind of loyalty and hunger I admire. He's exactly what we need, a prolific striker. Bellamy has the pace and skill and Kuyt has the finishing ability. Should be a good partnership! :hello:
Stevenage have finally managed to sign a striker, about the 5th one we went for but finally got another one in.Steve Morison from Bishops Stortford, 23 year old who also scored 3 goals in 7 starts for Northampton. He's been pretty prolific for Stortford and hopefully he can make the step up for Boro, still think Stimson want's to sign another 2/3 more players.

Huntelaar will be a massive star in the future. Ajax will recoup much more than the 9m Euros they paid us.
Kuijt will do well for Liverpool. He's Premier League style, so better move for him than Spain/Italy.

I hope he does well. If he does, that's good news for Holland.
I don't think he will be prolific, but an alternative to Crouch. I fear Liverpool may push him to the right in some games, to accomodate Bellamy and Crouch.
You support Heerenveen? Wow. I do think it's a shame the way Heerenveen have been battered around the league the past few seasons, but, if my memory serves me well, they did quite well last season and they're doing good again this year?

We're back in UEFA Cup this season. We've lost Samaras and Huntelaar but have a young team. The likes of the Drost brothers and Zuiverloon, are amongst the best in Holland. Supplement that with one of the best players in the league in Pranjic, plus youngsters like Bradley and Prager, I think top half this year is very very possible. 5th will be the highest we can possibly hope for.
We just signed a bloke called Kelvin Jong-A-Pin as well :joker:

Something that interests me, what will be on the back of the Dutchman's shirt?
Kuijt or Kuyt?
Depending on where you are in the world, it's different, ala van Nistelrooij
What does he play under normally? Kuijt or Kuyt? Whichever he plays under he'll probably keep.

Kuyt usually
He has two websites, with each spelling.
Kuijt is his official name and 'ij' in Holland is very common, but outside Holland, people use 'y' instead for Dutch players - van Nistelrooij/van Nistelrooy, Cruijff/Cruyff.
Feyenoord used to be Feijenoord, but offically changed it to Feyenoord, as they were fed up of Non Dutch people getting there name wrong.

Kuyt has as good a scoring record in Holland as Van Nistelrooy so I see no reason why he can't have a similar record to him in the Premiership. I think Crouch and Bellamy will rotate and if anyone is played on the wing it would be Bellamy but we have Pennant or Gerrard to play on the right and loads of cover on the left. We won't want to make the same mistake Holland do and play him out of position. Only time will tell though....

Kuijt (And I will continue to use his proper name :joker: ) can often be anonymous in games, but scores plenty.
In International's he can't get away with it, and now he's stepped up at club level, he'll have to improve.
Stevenage Borough have today signed Steve Guppy. The 37 year old ex England international winger who includes Celtic, Leicester, Newcastle and Wycombe amongst his former clubs. Steve goes straight into Boro's squad for tomorrows home game against Crawley.

Man Utd and Chelsea very easy winners today. Liverpool and Arsenal already 2 points adrift, and Tottenham 3 points.
Worry for Arsenal and Liverpool, is that they don't play League games midweek, and even though they may only be 5 points adrift by Wednesday night, with a game in hand, psychologically it can be damaging, and Liverpool have lost 2 of their best players for 2 weeks.

11 of tonight's 28 Carling Cup games, were won by a side in a lowe division.
Take out the 5 games between games in the same division, that's 11 of 23 games between teams in different divisions, that were won by the lower league side.
Nearly 50%, good for football.

Yes, but it's not your fault your side are in the wrong league. If they carry on the way they are going they will be next year! And better than that, all the overpaid players you have will be looking for new jobs. Shame you can't off load them all now to a local pub team in Newcastle!
I might turn tail coat!..... know of any good teams?????...... and dont say Southend Utd! My brothers would kill me!
He will forget we beat you 3-1 in a few weeks.... but I won't, it lots of fun and you don't get another chance to play Southend until 17th February. Unless we are drawn together in the FA cup.

They are 8th in Ryman Premier League at the moment, they lost in the play-offs last season. We tried signing one of their players in the summer, they kept putting up the price so we gave up.

Another great night of football tonight.
Chelsea lost at Boro
Arsenal scraped a win, albeit a 3-0 lead from 1st leg
Man Utd looked impressive though
Ajax out of CL to FC Copenhagen :blush2: Only PSV for the Dutch left.
Would expect Ajax to do well in UEFA
Sheff Weds, Wolves and Preston all out to lower league opposition in Carling Cup
Very interesting midweek!
Roy Keane likely to be the new Sunderland manager, not sure he's the right man for the job as he's never been a manager before.

Nice win for the mighty reds today, Kuyt looks like a great player.
Yes we've just equalised against Stoke!
10 minutes to go.
Full time Morecambe 3-3 Stevenage.Nice to get off the mark but cannot help thinking if we'd have defended better we would have our first win but credit to Boro for scoring a 3rd goal when Morcecambe had gone into the lead, Steve Morison what a signing so far, first player to score a hat-trick for Stevenage in ages.
Onto FGR at home on monday and hopefully our first win, drop Oliver and play Henry would be my advice.
Atleast we got a draw against Stoke, apparently we were dominating for alot of the game and someone hit the bar, don't know who yet. I would've been really annoyed if we'd lost!
Can't believe Plymouth are still in the top half of the table after 5 games, someone wake me up.

Well, he's got the right nationality :xyxwave:
Liverpool have to get better though, even more so Arsenal. I'll reserve judgement on Chelsea until after tomorrow's game. They've had 1 good and 1 average performance so far.
Man Utd have started well.
More importantly
Heerenveen 5-0 Willem II
2nd in table, behind AZ, who have scored 11 in 2 games, compared to our paltry 8 in 2 games :joker:

I think that the Bellamy/Kuyt partnership is potentially the best in the league so they are bound to bang the goals in. We've got cover for every position as shown by Agger today with his great performance capped by a terrific strike. As the new players settle in we'll become genuine contenders for the title. We have to beat Chelski in a league game first though!
They did well in the first two games but Man utd were lucky today. Arsenal seem lightweight and over reliant on Henry. The exact same problem they had last year and the same one we had the in the league when we won the European cup. Wenger has to contend with Cole leaving too and they have alot of youngsters. Can't see them doing much this season.
Unless Arsenal get in gear soon, it's a 3 horse race.

Potentially, but you gotta throw Crouch in. Benitez won't drop him. Potentially, Rosicky supplying Henry, or Ballack supplying Shevchenko or even scoring loads himself, but potential is nothing, if not acted upon.
As for Agger, needs to be first and foremost a defender. Great strike, I agree, but Mihajlovic was one of the best strikers of a ball, but one of the worst defenders i've ever seen. I hope Kuijt does well. Good start. I just think he may not do it against big teams, I hope he does, as it's good for our NT
All depends on next few days with transfer window. Mascherano looks like on is way to Arsenal, Brazlian TV has said Tevez is on way to Man Utd, plus Ashley Cole/Gallas may still happen.
We'll know more late Thursday!
Ollie!

Yeah but my point about Arsenal is they don't like playing phyical sides and IMO Rosicky is another lightweight addition to their squad. They are still too reliant on Henry to be a major threat.
Agger is a composed cultured defender and along with Paletta should provide great cover for us. We have good cover all over the pitch which should stand us in good stead as the season progresses. Despite Man uniteds good start Chelsea will be the team to beat. I just can't see Arsenal breaking into the top 3.

Agger looks fine so far. It's after 20 games we may be able to see whether he is up to it full time. Paletta is untested so far.
Rosicky is lightweight, but if Arsenal sign Mashcherano, that will add some beef. We'll have to see who they buy.
Come Friday morning, we'll have an idea, let's see if any of the big 4 buy anyone new.
Chelsea poor 1st half.

I can't see us buying anyone, maybe a young player for the future but I expect the other 3 to strengthen.

Well, Woodgate has been linked, on loan.
United I expect to sign one player, if Chelsea do, it will be a left back, and Arsenal I expect to sign one or two.
Chelsea won in the end. Much better half 2, but Blackburn had 2 big guys up front and Terry, Carvalho and Boulahrouz will pick them off all day.
The second half performance was much better after a pretty shakey first half and in my opinion Drogba needs to be starting ahead of Kalou, when he came off the bench today the Blackburn defence couldn't handle his strength.

They need to break Kalou in more slowly. He will come good, but his best work is done wide.
Kalou would be ideal playing on the right side of a 3 man attack once Robben comes back, he's not the sort of player to go straight in up front, gave Shevchenko with not enough support.
Manchester United buying Carlos Tevez would be a wrong move for me, he's far too much like Wayne Rooney but obviously not as good.Tevez has outgrown Corinthians and they would command a big transfer fee and if United pay that high price he's not going to dislodge Rooney from the starting line-up and him and Rooney will end up making the same kind of runs and doing the same kind of things and it just wont work, they will also be pretty weak in the air, if it fails then they will end up having Tevez as a sub and very high priced sub at that.
Javier Mascherano is a player I rate very highly but Fabregas and Gilberto Silva have been two of Arsenal's best players for about a year now and who would you drop out of those two to fit in Mascherano? Moving Cesc to the right wing would be an option as Arsenal don't really get many crosses in so it may work.

Re: Kalou, you would be right, but Chelsea have many options
Re: Tevez, don't think he's too much behind Rooney in terms of ability and could be a better player in the future. In today's squad game, he'll be useful and they could play like Chelsea, with Saha the middle man. Ronaldo has to be included too, but not all 4 will be fit at the same time.
Re: Arsenal, they'll play 4-5-1. Mashcerano and Gilberto will hold, Cesc will play make with Ljungberg and Rosicky further forward behind Henry, and Hleb in reserve.
Need good squads these days.

Tevez would be a good squad but it would be a lot of money for a player who's going to be mainly a sub, he's the wrong type of centre forward for United, they need someone strong in the air and a proven goalscorer.
If Arsenal play 4-5-1 I feel they will lack even more of a goal threat and will proably lead to them trying to score the perfect goal even more, they could do with a bit of variation in their play, Rosicky and Ljunberg offer the same thing and so will Cesc in a more advanced roll, I'm not sure where the goal are going to come from.

Manure won't sign Tevez. He'd be far to expensive and they have enough options up front with Solksjaer, Saha, Rooney and Smith when he returns. Van horseface left because he wasn't being played so they hardly need a replacement for him especially considering Ole Gunnar is back playing.
Maschereno would be expensive, but it is a slight possibility. Although manure are more in need of him than Arsenal.
Sunderland finally won! I really can't see why they're getting so excited about Keane who has no managerial experience whatsoever. He should be a good motivator though!

Man Utd in for Kris Boyd of Rangers today........£5m.
Mido back to Spurs
Woodgate to Boro, Newcastle, Portsmouth or Valencia on year loan
I havent seen much of Kris Boyd because Rangers are never on TV these days but when i watch Gilette Soccer Saturday his name appears on the score sheet every week so i'm guessing he would be a decent signing.

Boyd is the best Scottish striker for a while. Not sure he's what United need right now, but who knows. With the supply line of Ronaldo, Carrick, Rooney, Giggs et al. Nothing wrong with Saha to be fair.
United want Trezeguet now. Mido has returned to Tottenham, Petrov close to Villa move, Tevez and Mascherano moves to England are closer, although Arsenal and Villa want Tevez now too. Huth and Woodgate look like going to Boro, Pompey are close to Stephen Appiah.
