"Found a few quid" - Thank you Quinny!

No idea who we'll get, but with the transfer window closing VERY soon, I'm hoping we get a few big names back to the wear. We could do well this season, even though we got off to a bad start.

Ollie!
31-08-2006, 01:26 AM
Yes you could call 4 straight losses a bad start! I can't see that many big names swingin your way tbh. You should be able to assemble a decent enough squad to get you in the playoffs though. Maybe it would be better to spend a coupla seasons in the championship and make sure you're squad isstrong enough so you don't come straight back down again!

Yeah, I'm first to admit the squad was worse than weak last season - certainly not premiership material. Would be good to see us go back to the top, but again - can't see it happening for a couple of seasons at least.
The problem is that there is so many changes with the squad; manager, owners, fans, formations etc. It's been a downward spiral for a couple of years now - can't wait to see them on fighting form again though. I may be biased - but the squad deserve it

Anyway, it's been great talking to you, but I gotta dash, bye! :hello:

Maschereno and Tevez are on their way to West Ham! That means manure and Arsenal can't get their grubby mitts on them for at least another year! I like West Ham so I'm happy for them, even though they'll be off this time next season. Probably to Chelski, hmmmm I think they're behind this.....

There are only 2 explanations

1. Chelsea are buying them and loaning them out to get experience of Premier League

2. Corinthians owner still wants to buy West Ham

Dan_

What a double signing for West Ham! I think they will be playing 4-3-3 from now on with the amount of good strikers they have-Tevez,Cole,Harewood,Ashton,Zamora and Sheringham.

Dwight Yorke on his way to Sunderland and Michael Bridges has handed in a transfer request at Carlisle.

Bridges hasn't put a request in despite reports basically everywhere! Hull have bid £250,000 for him but we want more.

Yorke is a good signing for Sunderland. I wonder if they'll play him up front or in midfield?

Hinckley United's Matt Gadsby died after collapsing on the pitch during a Conference North game on Saturday.
The 27-year-old defender fell to the ground with no-one near him during the first half of their game at Harrogate.

"It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Matt Gadsby," Harrogate said on their website.

Gadsby joined Hinckley on a free transfer in the summer from Forest Green Rovers having started his career at Walsall as a trainee.

He also played for Mansfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

Jay

We can't play a 3-5-2 formation Neville cannot make them sort of runs quite a few times tonight he was out paced, then only after we went 2 goals down Mclaron only decided to change it back to 4-4-2 which is what we should of played in the first place. They deserved the 3 points from the 1st minute to the end they dominated us in all area's of the field making us look like a small team and Gary Neville's own goal summed up our night. The only good news is Rooney looked bit like his oldself making good runs just the end product isn't there.

Mike
16-10-2006, 10:25 PM

Dan_
16-10-2006, 10:50 PM
He's on trial, played for the reserves last week against Norwich and set up a goal, going play against Southend on wednesday. Is he a central midfielder?

Mike
16-10-2006, 11:00 PM
Yeah he plays centre midfield, was our captain for years, feel a bit sorry for him at the moment though not being able to find a club, he came back to us for a second spell but unfortunately wasn't good enough anymore.

Dan_
16-10-2006, 11:05 PM
I think he's 35 now,is he more defensive minded? We don't really need him if so.

Mike
16-10-2006, 11:09 PM
Yep he is more of a defensive midfielder, got the odd goal for us but he was mainly known for his excellent tackling.

Dan_
17-10-2006, 11:24 AM
Cheers Mike, I personally cannot see us signing him at the moment as we already have two holding players.I am little bit suprised he's not found another club though, surely one of the smaller clubs in the conference would be interested.

bonnie43uk

We lost to Burton friday night, let our foot of the gas 2nd half as they only had 10 men and they got back into it mainly down to our sub keeper having a mare.

Well done to Spurs today beating Chelsea, very entertaining game and Mourinho was pretty gracious in defeat it seemed, contrast that to Wenger who tried pushing Pardew over after Arsenal lost to West Ham, bit out of character for him but I suppose emotions were running high.

Lastly nice to see Kuyt settling into the prem so well.

Dan_
06-11-2006, 11:22 PM
Farnborough requested for the game to be switched to make more money basically and the safety issues with the ground allowed for it.

Middlesbrough played Nuneaton last year at Nuneatons ground and Man United played away to Burton.I think it's all down to the club.

Tonight's England game was fairly dull imo.Neither side really threatend after that first goal and it was played at such a slow pace that it almost sent me off to sleep.

The England goal was well worked and an intelligent overlap from Richards really helped to draw Emauelson away and allowed Cole space for the cross. The Holland goal was poor communication on the part of Robinson, if he only he came for it I feel sure we wouldn't have conceded but the last 5 mins was about the most interesting of the game.

Michah Richards had a very good debut after a bit of a slow start he did well to block off Robben most of the time and he did well going forward, I'd proably give him man of the match.

Malmo in Sweden.

Very surprised he's done so well so soon. 10 in 12, top scorer in League. If we can get a bit of money when he leaves, if he leaves, great. The 14m Euros we got for Samaras and Huntelaar haven't been spent either, just bought loads of cheapies!

Dan_
20-11-2006, 12:52 AM
You should try and keep hold of him then if you've got money in the bank to allow you to be stable and then you can try and push on and get in the UEFA cup again.

How's Ugur Yildirim doing this season?

InTheHood
20-11-2006, 01:01 AM
UEFA Cup is always the aim.

Yildirim is having a poorish season. He's featured in all the games, but mostly as a sub.

He's been overshadowed by likes of Pranjic, Afonso and Zuiverloon at the moment. I'm sure he'll come back into his own soon.

Captain Petter Hansson wants to leave to play in a bigger league next season, which will be a blow.

Away to Parma midweek in UEFA, need a point to give us any remote chance, if any in last round of matches.

Dan_
20-11-2006, 01:17 AM
I've always rated Yildirim, shame he's having a poor season.

As you said you really need to pick up at least a point to keep your chances alive in the UEFA cup, Parma will be a difficult game away though.

Arrow miss player 'cheated death'
A semi-professional footballer has said he feels lucky to be alive after almost being hit by a 1m-long arrow fired on to a pitch during a match.

The referee stopped the Unibond First Division clash between Woodley Sports and Alsager Town at Lambeth Stadium, Stockport, 12 minutes before time.

The metal arrow, which police believe was fired from outside the ground, narrowly missed Jamie Kay, 18.

"I felt physically sick," said the teenager, who is from Stockport.

Mr Kay, who signed for the club in 2005, said he felt a rush of wind past his shoulder before turning around to see the arrow sticking out of the ground.

"I thought it was just a breeze, then I saw the referee running over and I thought he was going to book me.

"But he told me to turn round and when I saw the metal arrow, I felt physically sick.

"He said it missed me by an inch and God only knows what could have happened.

"I honestly think I would have died if it had gone two inches the other way. I feel lucky to be alive."

Woodley were winning 3-0 when the match was abandoned on Saturday afternoon.

Woodley Sports and Football Club has put up a reward of up to £1,500 for anyone who helps find the person responsible.

Woodley manager Ally Pickering said: "Nothing like this has happened to the team in the 25 years since the club was founded.

"We have no idea whether this was kids messing around or adults, but it has to be stopped. We're very lucky this wasn't much more serious.

"It is hard enough to get people to support non-league football we just hope a one-off like this isn't going to put anyone off."

A club spokesperson said: "Woodley Sports and Football club condemns the reckless stupidity of the mindless person or persons who fired the missile into our club ground.

"The consequences of this action could have been devastating."
