Heerenveen in 6th. UEFA Cup a realistic possibility again, if we hang on to Afonso.
We want 9.5m for him (yes pounds!), which is likely to put people off, although, a bid of around 4m will likely get him

Get in there, Mr Young from Watford's agreed to come to the Villa! Hopefully showing ambition as we are doing we will attract yet more class players. I do think £9.75mill is steap but you have to pay that sort of money for up and coming england internationals.
Good signing, he's from Stevenage and I think he still lives here but proably on the move now.

M'ON is not going anywhere! Manure had there chance, he's ours now!
Two very ambitious signings and talk of another striker/ midfielder before the window closes, really looking foward to the summer now where we are supposedly going for world class players.
Luke Moore's back from injury and Martin Laursen... be like a new team against Newcastle a week on Wednesday!
Bardsley had an amazing debut for us btw...
We have signed Mitchell Cole from Southend for a 5 figure fee, very happy with that signing.Getting a classy player from a championship club cant be bad and shelling out some of the cash we got for Boyd shows amibition so credit to the chairman. He also posted the news article at gone 2am

Southend Utd couldn't train because bad weather for their game against Spurs today. It would seem they had a game of rugby instead of playing football.
I hope they remember what game they are playing later today or they could be the first team sent off in the history of the FA cup.
Lol.
Did you ever get to see Mitchell Cole play for Southend then Red?

27-01-2007, 07:03 PM
No I didn't.
I think it might have been a bad idea playing rugby we lost 3-1. We didn't play badly and we did have them worried at 2-1 for about 10 minutes until they scored another goal.
The lads played well and they didn't give up, and it was an exciting game.
If we played like that every saturday wouldn't be at the bottom of the table.
Oh well...... at least we beat Man Utd this session. That's more than many clubs have managed.

Great goal from Rooney today, exactly why we need him fully fit for the european championships next year.
We drew 1-1 away at Gravesend, I'd have taken that before the game. They have been a real suprise package this season.Morsion got his 23rd goal of the season :thumbs2:.Why we started with Luke Oliver upfront is beyond me, just because he's the same height as Peter Crouch it dont make him as good as him.
We signed Damien Batt from St.Albans and all, good fullback that adds depth to our squad.

He's 23.Started off at Northampton and never really got a chance but still scored a few goals but they released him and he ended up at Bishops Stortford and scored about 9 goals in their FA Trophy run and overall about 30 in 50 games. We signed him for £10,000 at the start of this season and he's never looked back and he's only played 29 games, he played 2 and scored 2 for Stortford so 25 overall this season.
Luton were meant to be interested but we made it clear we wouldnt sell as we had just sold Boyd to Peterboro for £260,000.I wouldnt be suprised if he did move soon though, scores with both feet and his head so not much more you can ask.

Yeah we have really turned it around of late, shame the last 2 results werent better otherwise we'd be in a play-off place. We havent quite sorted out the side since Boyd left, the two players who have been tried upfront have not really made the desired impact and I cannot say it suprises me as both are basically target men and with Morison leading the line so well there's no need for someone else dominant in the air to be there.I don't know why we've brought in Mitchell Cole unless he's going to take Boyd's role as we already have two good left wingers.
I have to say I'm suprised Daggers are where they are, outside bet for the play-offs was all I said before the season but they really work hard as a team and some really talented young players.Would have been interesting had Craig Mackail-Smith gone along with Blackett to Peterborough though as they'd have had to replace both with lower league signings and they may not have worked out.
CMS still may go though from what I have heard, Sunderland rumoured to be interested and he really is a cracking player's, prior to joining Daggers himand Blackett were at a club just up the road from me Arlesey who my PE teacher played for at the same time as them.We had the chance at signing the pair of them but our old manager turned them down, worst piece of judgement from him other than releasing DJ Campbell for nothing.

Yeah Mitchell Cole is the partner of Joe Cole's sister, proably got to know her through being at West Ham at the same time as Joe.
Mackail-Smith is meant to have been told he had to go to Peterborough because of pre-contract agreement and Daggers wanted the money in the end.Craig's dad wanted him to go somewhere else after the uncertaintity at Peterboro.
Oxford really do look a poor side at the moment, after that defeat away to Gravesend which ended their unbeaten start to the season they just seem to have plummeted, clearly nobody is really that scared of them and even when they were doing well people were saying they didnt look that great just a solid side who won mainly because of late goals/penalties which all seemed to come through Yemi Odubade. When we played them the defence and midfield was slow and easy to breakthrough and even when we went down to 9 men we still almost won the match.
We also let Sam Sodje go to Margate for peanuts and now he's in the prem.I questioned the release of Campbell and sale of Sodje at the time and looks like I've been proved correct.
We have signed Paul Hakim from St.Albans so that is the striker that we needed now for another central midfielder.

Good signings there Mike and Becca.Southall is a shock seeing as he was in Forest's side at the weekend and Fleetwood's a very good striker and has been in Hereford's side most of the season.
We have signed Daryl McMahon from Leyton Orient, a central midfielder who played most games last season when they won promotion from league 2 but he's found himself out of the side since october so should be a good signing.

ITALIAN FIXTURES OFF
All games in Italy have been postponed following a policeman's death at Palermo's Sicilian derby with Catania.
Italy's game with Romania next week has also been postponed by the Italian Football Federation.
The police officer was killed in clashes between both sets of fans outside Stadio Massimino before and after the match.
The dead officer is believed to have been hit in the face by an explosive thrown by some fans.
Italian Federation commissioner Luca Pancalli and sport minister Giovanna Melandri made the decision to call off action over the weekend as a result of the tragedy.
"I have demanded a stop to all activity of football in Italy," Pancalli said in a statement. "Enough is enough.
"It's a situation that I cannot speak of. To lose your life at 38 is incredible. This is not a sport.
"The football tournaments will remain suspended until we solve the violence in our football.
"It's unacceptable that such incidents happen in a country like Italy."
The game itself was marred by crowd trouble with the second half held up for 30 minutes after tear gas was thrown onto the pitch.
Palermo won the game 2-1 with two controversial goals and Catania president Antonio Pulvirenti wants the game replayed and has blamed Palermo fans for the trouble.
"Clearly the incidents were provoked by the Palermo fans when they entered the stadium," said Pulvirenti.
"Before then, nothing had happened, but they started causing trouble and as the images show threw tear gas onto the pitch.
"They were well-organised and came here in order to cause trouble. We feel penalised and will appeal against the result so that the match will be considered void.
"We've been punished for less in the past and demand the same treatment.
"I was on the field and, if you look carefully, the section where the tear gas came from only had Palermo fans in there.
"The officials saw what happened and will take action."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What does everyone think on this? i think the Italian Federation commissioner is right to do what he has done and he is spot on with everything he says, no one should have to lose their life because of football violence but this guy was 38 years old, probably had a wife and kids waiting at home, stronger action needs to start being taken IMO.

Italian football is a farce, Hooligans, bungs, match fixing... could it possibly get any worse for them!
Anyway, Aston Villa vs West Ham tomorrow. The real Claret n Blue army against the light blue and pink brigade!
Could be a goal feat!
Maloney to start? Can't wait! I'll be there at a full house Villa Park!
They may well end up playing infront of no crowd if they dont control the stuff happening over there.Racisim is also an issue in Italian football .
I hate refs .1-0 up away to Morecambe in the trophy after another goal from Morison on the stroke at half time and our whole team worked hard but a penalty was scored on 94 minutes, very harsh.

Italian football is a complete shambles.
All grounds should be shut for the rest of the season at least

Afonso scored, again.
New signing Cecilio Lopes, who we farmed out on loan the same day we signed him, scored on his Sparta Rotterdam debut

Mitchell looked half decent when in League 1
Didn't CMS go to Darlington or someone?
Still, it's D&R or Oxford it seems.
Oxford were okay at beginning of season......Duffy was it scoring loads of pens?
So basically, anyone released by Stevenage, should be snapped up, as they are Prem bound
Mitchell's fitness is not the best at the moment so he's been coming off the bench the last 2 games, looks a pretty good player.
Sod knows what's happening with CMS, his agent and dad wanted a better move for him but he'd already signed for them anyway and now he's saying if they force him to stay he will quit football and work for his dad.Way to wreck someone's career.
Yeah Duffy has scored about 10 penalties lol, he was another one released by us after playing the grand total of 30 mins.
Ryman prem bound alot of them more like lol. Most of the silly releases were down to Wayne Turner and Graham Westley, pair of pillocks.
Aldershot 1-0 Grays
Poor performance from us played well first half, lucky we got all 3 points goal came in the 86th minute from Jonny Dixon.
Stevenage beat Morecambe 3-0 in the Trophy after extra time.Goals from Morison, Nurse and Miller.

He did indeed and set up a goal by running from his own half just passing players with ease before sending in a great hanging cross for Miller to head in.His girlfriend was there, seems a nice girl.Good win for us and means were are just 3 points off the play-offs.1st goal was a fantastic strike from 25 yards but the punch out was awful.
CMS saga carries on,he did play for Peterborough today though as a sub.
Oxford really are lucky to have had such a great first half of the season, they just dont seem to be getting more than the odd goal.Gravesend are funny really, doing so much better than expected but when we played them at home they looked poor but away they were all over us and we just scraped a point thanks to some great goalkeeping.York have not had the best form of late but a 4-0 win will do wonders for them.Grays and Halifax sinking and to think they were in the play-offs last season.
Garry Hill and his assistant Kevin Hales were sacked and all the players put up for sale as a cost cutting measure, the chairman made very silly financial decisions and was relying on bigger crowds, longer cup run and to perhaps sell off one of the players for a 6 figure sum but none of this really materialised so they got rid of Hill and Hales and most of the first team players went.Lee-Barrett went to Coventry,Wilkinson to Havant, Logan, Elam and Tully to Exeter, Smith to Hereford and El-Kholti, Eribenne, Downer and Howell to Grays.

Ljungberg has scored.
3-1 to Arsenal, harsh on Bolton.
Don't support Arsenal but what a joy to watch, Rosicky and Hleb in the first half were amazing the ball just sticks to their feet like glue, Bolton made a better game of it in the second half but you could see as the game was stretching in extra time they were going to get caught out by Arsenal's pace and it didn't help having a player sent off either.

That is why Sunderland will always be in lower half of the premiership or in the upper half of the Championship.
Southend is moving to a new 22,000 seat football stadium including 114 bedroom hotel, conference facility, associated food and drink outlets in a few years time. That should allow us to generate enough money to stay in the championship once the ground is built.

Good away win that was, shame I couldnt go due to the flu .It sounded like we played well though, Fuller with a 30 yard volley, nice way to get your first goal and yet another one for Morison.Moving onto Stafford tomorrow night and we need to keep this run going but we are meant to be resting players, hopefully that wont bite us in the backside.
Oxford with another penalty I think, without them they'd be lost.
Weymouth have about 7 players left from before the transfer window and have just promoted youth teamers/signed trialists and they work hard but just lack the quality to win games it seems. The chairman should be ashamed.

2-2 and we gave a penalty away in stoppage time. What a mistake boys.
Shame on you Southend Utd.
That turned out to be a pretty good FA Cup game between Reading and Manchester United, shame Reading were totally awful for the first 10 mins and that formation just seemed to play into Uniteds hands and it was always going to be an uphill task to even take it to extra time but they had a real go and came so close but United really did get complacent.

Should have bet on you winning again today lol.
Stevenage's unbeaten run comes to an end away to Oxford, too many players had off days today and we need to step it up against Woking tuesday, at least Morison and Miller will be back.
Crawley 1-2 Aldershot
Goals from Pritchard and Dixon didn't play that bad but could of done better but managed to get the 3 points.

well done Liverpool... is the score the same now?
It was a nervous night for me what with following Liverpool and supporting Stevenage.
The Liverpool game was very good and they were class in the first half but just couldnt get that goal that they so richly deserved and then the sucker punch with Barcelona scoring but they always seemed pretty comfortable with everything else that Barca threw at them.
Stevenage totally dominated the first half by the sounds of it and go the vital goal after good work by Nurse and Morison who opted to pass when he could have shot but showed he's not selfish and Mark Hughes stroked it home and then the 2nd half Woking threw everything at us but it was mainly long balls and great defending from Gaia and Henry restricted them to hardly any chances and we do the double over the rivals for the first time in lord knows how long and some of the other results went our way and at one point they all seemed to be going our way but a couple of late goals got Morecambe a draw and wins for Exeter and York .Ah well I cannot complain at a win.

It's been a tough season for Accrington really, losing your 2 best players has kept you near the bottom, a draw with Bristol Rovers is a decent result but as you say you need a few more wins yet.How many games you got left?

Chelsea 3-3 Spurs
How Spurs drew this game i will never no, they looked in control when they went 3-1 up they had so many chances to the kill the game off in the second half, but fair play to Chelsea they never gave up and got a replay out of it.
Yeah I started watching from the end of the first half. It was a great second half and I wanted Chelsea to draw / win cos if Plymouth get through I want us to draw them!

Lol I wish.
Oh well, I think we played very well but we just couldn't manage to find the net despite chance after chance after chance. :bawling:
Chelsea vs Spurs was a cracking game, the amount of space in the Chelsea defence was unbelievable but I felt Jol made a mistake in taking off Berbatov and bringing on Mido who looked well off the pace.Robben's dive was laughable.
Plymouth were unlucky, a draw would have been the fair result with the amount of chances they created but great performances from Shittu and Ben Foster just kept Plymouth out.Nice to see Barry Hayles play again.

2-2.
Just got back from the match.
Stoke scored first, with a rather pathetic goal. Sunderland equalised almost instantly, and then just before halftime Stoke took the lead with 2-1.
First half was better played by Sunderland, so many chances missed unfortunately. But excellent play.
Second half went a bit down for Sunderland, still had many chances and lost them but a late goal saw Sunderland equalise, so wasn't too bad of a game.
3-1 win for Stevenage tonight, 1-0 down at half time despite hitting the bar, post and having shots cleared off the line numerous times and Southport scored with about their only meaningful attack of the game.We equalised through Jon Nurse not long after half time.Santos Gaia was then sent off so we played with 10 men for the next half hour but managed to score 2 goals in injury time via Mark Beard and Steve Morison to get a vital win.
Newcastle are out of UEFA Cup after loosing 2-0 0n the night and going out by the away goals rule, pretty pathectic performance from Newcastle to be honest they created 2 decent chances through Martins and Parker and also Parker had a goal ruled out but to be honest they didn't deserve to go through.
They were very disjointed, just seemed to lack the drive to push them forward to get another goal and they seemed almost over awed by the whole occassion.AZ had so much time and space and it was all too easy for them, you could just see a second goal was coming.I felt sorry for Martins tonight, no service at all and had to go deep to even get the ball.
I see Luton have sacked Mike Newell. He did a very good job for them up until just recently and that was down to selling off the key members of their squad from last season and replacing them with a lot lower standard of player.I think him being as outspoken as he was counted against him in the end, first chance they got of sacking him really.I got to hear him most weeks on local radio as Stevenage are covered by the same station as Luton and he did come across as a very difficult guy to speak to and many a time he'd get angry at the presenters so I can see him upsetting the chairman should he be questioned on results etc.

It was certainly not easy and Grays were proably the better side over the 90 mins but we did them in extra time.
We looked totally shagged for the first half and barely tested Grays defence and we had Julian to thank for keeping it at 0-0 but then they took the lead though Alex Rhodes after he cut inside and shot straight into the bottom corner. After that we kinda got back into it with Morison causing them problems but Julian make some great saves to keep us in it.Cole and Dobson came on and gave us alot more pace down the wings and both almost scored but it went into extra time and I was so nervous but Hughes chipped in a free-kick and Oliver didnt even have to jump to head it in, crowd went bezerk and then with almost the last kick of the game Morison won it then knocked it past a defender before calmly finising just to top things off and a trip to Wembley awaits :cheer2:.
I've almost lost my voice now and I'm exhausted lol.

You're doing pretty well lately, that lad you've got on loan from Liverpool,Godwin Antwi has shored up your defence. You heard anymore on the points deduction you might be facing?
In other news Luton have appointed Kevin Blackwell as their new manager, felt he was sacked too early by Leeds after getting them to the play-off final last year, may well get his hometown club out of trouble.

OK proper reason then. How are you doing this season?
Not to good midtable at the moment without a win in our last 5 games, had a good start we was second at one point but then we went 8 games without a win.
But pretty confident we will win tonight.

Mid tables OK. Always next year. I live right by Hucknall Towns ground and 'enjoy' watching them every now and again. I love conference football.
What leauge are Hucknall in?
Yeah i think the conference is a great leauge, each week you have a tough match as the teams get better each season.
GiRTh
27-03-2007, 06:26 PM
Hucknall are in the Conference North. They're terrible. Hard to call it semi-professional.
You're right about the teams in the conference. Clubs like Halifax, Cambridge and Oxford are quite big clubs and the standard gets better every year.
You ever thought of following a bigger club or is it a home town thing?
Halifax and Cambridge are in a relegation battle at the moment, be unthinkable if either got relegated.
Are you safe from relegation? There always next season i guess you have the whole summer to get it right.
GiRTh
27-03-2007, 06:31 PM
Mid table respectability or mediocrity, depends how you look at it. Hucknall will always be in that pack I don't see them getting any better.
I'm surprised the big clubs in the conference are doing so badly.
Yeah teams in the conference at the moment are very good, you got the littlier clubs in the conference like Gravesend and Burton Albion who are in touching distance of the play-offs.
GiRTh
27-03-2007, 06:38 PM
Burton are a good team. I have friends who watch them. All down to Nigel Clough and Gary Crosby. I'm surprised a bigger club haven't poached Nigel Clough he's got to be one of the better young managers around.
Yeah he has done a great job there, they are only still part time footballers aswell quite amazing what he has done there.
GiRTh
27-03-2007, 06:41 PM
true. I reckon he could manage 2nd or 3rd division but the same managers seem to get all the jobs.
Yeah he could do, he always said though he would start at the bottom and get the experience he needs, who knows though he could Get Burton up to leauge football.
GiRTh
27-03-2007, 06:45 PM
Maybe right. I'd like to see him poached though like David Moyes or Sam Alladyce - well Sam was hardly poached but you see what I mean - I want him to land his dream job.
Yeah im sure he will in a couple of years if he doesnt go up with Burton.
I think Nigel deserves a bigger job and all, always impressed with the way his Burton side have played against us and they have progressed very well over the last few seasons, building the squad each year but they really have relied upon the likes of Aaron Webster, Darren Stride and Ryan Austin over the last few years.
