"Found a few quid" - Thank you Quinny!
No idea who we'll get, but with the transfer window closing VERY soon, I'm hoping we get a few big names back to the wear. We could do well this season, even though we got off to a bad start.
Ollie!
31-08-2006, 01:26 AM
Yes you could call 4 straight losses a bad start! I can't see that many big names swingin your way tbh. You should be able to assemble a decent enough squad to get you in the playoffs though. Maybe it would be better to spend a coupla seasons in the championship and make sure you're squad isstrong enough so you don't come straight back down again!

Yeah, I'm first to admit the squad was worse than weak last season - certainly not premiership material. Would be good to see us go back to the top, but again - can't see it happening for a couple of seasons at least.
The problem is that there is so many changes with the squad; manager, owners, fans, formations etc. It's been a downward spiral for a couple of years now - can't wait to see them on fighting form again though. I may be biased - but the squad deserve it
Anyway, it's been great talking to you, but I gotta dash, bye! :hello:

Maschereno and Tevez are on their way to West Ham! That means manure and Arsenal can't get their grubby mitts on them for at least another year! I like West Ham so I'm happy for them, even though they'll be off this time next season. Probably to Chelski, hmmmm I think they're behind this.....

There are only 2 explanations
1. Chelsea are buying them and loaning them out to get experience of Premier League
2. Corinthians owner still wants to buy West Ham
What a double signing for West Ham! I think they will be playing 4-3-3 from now on with the amount of good strikers they have-Tevez,Cole,Harewood,Ashton,Zamora and Sheringham.
Dwight Yorke on his way to Sunderland and Michael Bridges has handed in a transfer request at Carlisle.

Hinckley United's Matt Gadsby died after collapsing on the pitch during a Conference North game on Saturday.
The 27-year-old defender fell to the ground with no-one near him during the first half of their game at Harrogate.
"It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Matt Gadsby," Harrogate said on their website.
Gadsby joined Hinckley on a free transfer in the summer from Forest Green Rovers having started his career at Walsall as a trainee.
He also played for Mansfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

ditto Dan we were poor
I thought the whole game was a complete joke to be honest, Croatia got what they deserved simply because they wanted it more, we might as well have played 10 defenders because we hardly had an attack - awful performance.
We can't play a 3-5-2 formation Neville cannot make them sort of runs quite a few times tonight he was out paced, then only after we went 2 goals down Mclaron only decided to change it back to 4-4-2 which is what we should of played in the first place. They deserved the 3 points from the 1st minute to the end they dominated us in all area's of the field making us look like a small team and Gary Neville's own goal summed up our night. The only good news is Rooney looked bit like his oldself making good runs just the end product isn't there.

Mike, did Gills used to have a player called Paul Smith?
Yep Paul Smith is a legend Dan, no where near as good as he was back when we beat Wigan at wembley but obviously he is alot older now, have Stevenage signed him then?
He's on trial, played for the reserves last week against Norwich and set up a goal, going play against Southend on wednesday. Is he a central midfielder?
Yeah he plays centre midfield, was our captain for years, feel a bit sorry for him at the moment though not being able to find a club, he came back to us for a second spell but unfortunately wasn't good enough anymore.
I think he's 35 now,is he more defensive minded? We don't really need him if so.
Yep he is more of a defensive midfielder, got the odd goal for us but he was mainly known for his excellent tackling.
Cheers Mike, I personally cannot see us signing him at the moment as we already have two holding players.I am little bit suprised he's not found another club though, surely one of the smaller clubs in the conference would be interested.
bonnie43uk
17-10-2006, 11:31 AM
we should play with a flat back four. and use Gregson as a holding midfield player. Bring in Dobsworth to launch long balls up to Butler using his height to break the defence.
Paul Smith's playing for the ressies again tonight, Mike.I'll let you know how he get's on.
Any news on how Smudger played for your reserves yet Dan?
Heard he did quite well again. We lost to Southend 2-0 but only had 10 men for the 2nd half after Stamp got sent off for two bookable offences but all the players went for it I heard and all played well.Seems he put in a lot of effort and some said they would prefer him to one of our other central midfielders.

Yeah I was there, great game and so close to beating them.I think we tried taking the guy who scored for us in that game back on loan this week but he got injured in training.
o ddi you go to the game at newcastle 3.1 i think was it
2-1 it was.Tickets sold out before I could get them and I had school next day anyway.Shearer got both goals I believe and one never crossed the line.
o do any of the Stevenage players that play in that match stil play for Stevenage
Nah most are retired, one of the players was the dad of some girl in my year at primary school and he and a few of the players and the manager came in a few days before the first game.
What was that like
was that the 3 or 4 round someone said it was the 4 but i am sure it was the 3
It was round 4, I've got the programme.
It was cool meeting the players and having the manager watch us play at lunch time.
did u see anygood newcastle players what was the att 4 that game

I remember that match... Kenny Dalglish got annoyed by the remarks Stevenage's manager had made in the week leading up to the game and Dalglish said after the second replay something like.
'I wish them well in the FA Trophy... I hope they get knocked out in the next round!'

Dalglish did not want the game played at our ground, it wasn't in a good state back then and we put a temp stand up.
We ended up getting to the quater finals of the FA Trophy

whats the rules now if a smaller team gets drawn at thjeir ground against a large team i.e Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal liverpool etc
Some have to move it to a bigger venue like Yeading had to for the Newcastle game, most conf clubs are fine.

its just i thought because of the Farnborough/Arsenal game you cant have it at your home ground if its a small club you have to play at the away clubs ground but maybe is just me
Farnborough requested for the game to be switched to make more money basically and the safety issues with the ground allowed for it.
Middlesbrough played Nuneaton last year at Nuneatons ground and Man United played away to Burton.I think it's all down to the club.
BB fernzy guess who win the fa trophy that year us cheltenham town.
You had a good team that year, Jamie Victory and Grayson.
Jamie Victory still plays for us

Who is looking foward to Southend v Man United tonight then? according to the sky sports website Fergie is set to field a strong team with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha all included.
COme on Southend
Jamie Victory is leaveing at the end of the season in his last season last on conduct they gave him 1 year deal last year

ah right thanks dan
Jamie Victory would make a good signing for us
If Man United field a strong team I fear for Southend.
Mike, I see that Gills youth are playing Stevenage youth tonight in the FA Cup.
Yep, was going to go but i'd much rather stay in and watch Southend v Man United plus i'm off to Stamford Bridge tomorrow night to watch Chelsea v Villa in the carling cup.
Your youth side any good? We've got a few players coming through and the lad Tyrone Sealey is already a sub most games.
We got quite a good youth team, years ago we had hardly any players coming through to the first team but we get quite a few now, will be a decent game tonight thats for sure just a shame they only sold a few tickets.
We've got a couple of minibuses going
Mike do u like chelsea or villa
come on villa
Southend have won 1-0! Well done to them. One of our old players,Efe Sodje was outstanding.
Oh and Stevenage youth team beat Gillingham youth on penalties. It was 3-3 after extra time.Well done lads!
yes well done to .Southend are now in the last 8 i bet you that the winer of villa chelsea will the think
Out of the FA Cup, no glamour tie for us.Losing to Wrexham 1-0 and not even putting on the sub striker makes me angry, this season really is depressing and only the FA Trophy left to go for really as we'll finish the season mid-table most likely :bored:
yes we made it into 3 place today won 1.0 we are great
that is villa by the way

Unlucky Again..... we had most of the shots, corners etc and again we couldn't win. When is Southends luck return in the League.
It's great we beat Manchester Utd in the Lauge cup but we could do with some wins in the Leauge it's self.

The coin throwing incident from the Newport v Swansea game - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cakMzBXwNfc
Stevenage have signed Bradley Johnson on loan from Northampton, hope he's good.
Tonight's England game was fairly dull imo.Neither side really threatend after that first goal and it was played at such a slow pace that it almost sent me off to sleep.
The England goal was well worked and an intelligent overlap from Richards really helped to draw Emauelson away and allowed Cole space for the cross. The Holland goal was poor communication on the part of Robinson, if he only he came for it I feel sure we wouldn't have conceded but the last 5 mins was about the most interesting of the game.
Michah Richards had a very good debut after a bit of a slow start he did well to block off Robben most of the time and he did well going forward, I'd proably give him man of the match.
I ended up switching over every couple of minutes to watch a bit on the Ireland game it was that boring, it's weird how most of our stars just don't perform for country yet when playing for their clubs they are great.

Won 2-0 @ RKC. Looking like a top half finish again. Alves scored again, great buy for us.
Where did you get him from?
InTheHood
20-11-2006, 12:13 AM
Malmo in Sweden.
Very surprised he's done so well so soon. 10 in 12, top scorer in League. If we can get a bit of money when he leaves, if he leaves, great. The 14m Euros we got for Samaras and Huntelaar haven't been spent either, just bought loads of cheapies!
You should try and keep hold of him then if you've got money in the bank to allow you to be stable and then you can try and push on and get in the UEFA cup again.
How's Ugur Yildirim doing this season?
InTheHood
20-11-2006, 01:01 AM
UEFA Cup is always the aim.
Yildirim is having a poorish season. He's featured in all the games, but mostly as a sub.
He's been overshadowed by likes of Pranjic, Afonso and Zuiverloon at the moment. I'm sure he'll come back into his own soon.
Captain Petter Hansson wants to leave to play in a bigger league next season, which will be a blow.
Away to Parma midweek in UEFA, need a point to give us any remote chance, if any in last round of matches.
I've always rated Yildirim, shame he's having a poor season.
As you said you really need to pick up at least a point to keep your chances alive in the UEFA cup, Parma will be a difficult game away though.

Arrow miss player 'cheated death'
A semi-professional footballer has said he feels lucky to be alive after almost being hit by a 1m-long arrow fired on to a pitch during a match.
The referee stopped the Unibond First Division clash between Woodley Sports and Alsager Town at Lambeth Stadium, Stockport, 12 minutes before time.
The metal arrow, which police believe was fired from outside the ground, narrowly missed Jamie Kay, 18.
"I felt physically sick," said the teenager, who is from Stockport.
Mr Kay, who signed for the club in 2005, said he felt a rush of wind past his shoulder before turning around to see the arrow sticking out of the ground.
"I thought it was just a breeze, then I saw the referee running over and I thought he was going to book me.
"But he told me to turn round and when I saw the metal arrow, I felt physically sick.
"He said it missed me by an inch and God only knows what could have happened.
"I honestly think I would have died if it had gone two inches the other way. I feel lucky to be alive."
Woodley were winning 3-0 when the match was abandoned on Saturday afternoon.
Woodley Sports and Football Club has put up a reward of up to £1,500 for anyone who helps find the person responsible.
Woodley manager Ally Pickering said: "Nothing like this has happened to the team in the 25 years since the club was founded.
"We have no idea whether this was kids messing around or adults, but it has to be stopped. We're very lucky this wasn't much more serious.
"It is hard enough to get people to support non-league football we just hope a one-off like this isn't going to put anyone off."
A club spokesperson said: "Woodley Sports and Football club condemns the reckless stupidity of the mindless person or persons who fired the missile into our club ground.
"The consequences of this action could have been devastating."

Good away win today for us against Kidderminster today, 2-1.Goals from Luke Oliver and George Boyd.
Good win for us today 1-0 away at Rushden, John Grant 88th minute.
We beat Rotherham 1-0 at home today, if it wasn't for their 10 point deduction at the start of the season then they would be something like 2nd or 3rd so today was a great result for us.

England's non leauge England team beat their dutch counterparts 4-1 tonight at Burton Pirelli stadium.Goals from Kieran Charnock of Northwich, Craig Mackail-Smith of Dagenham and the two Stevenage strikers Steve Morison and George Boyd.
We drew with the league leaders 2-2 today and we only had 9 men for half an hour, two debatable sending offs and Oxford players could and should have been sent off but the ref was a biased bastard.
Ah well we worked hard and outplayed them.
We got wooped by Birmingham 3-0 :bawling:

Great effort though, the form Spurs are in at the moment alot of championship sides would have gone there and had a few goals put past them, i know they rested a few players but still a very strong side they fielded.
