the character you dweeb
Pfft Jon Snow getting his ass kicked and then needing the Craster girl to save him, as if that bloke would just forget about Jon and leave his back turned while he stands over her :idc:
I know its obviously the way the show is gonna go but I'm not as big a fan of the fantasy side of things, all the stuff like Bran having 'the sight' with the tree and the three eyed raven. I prefer the more straightforward power politics and plotting and the conventional fighting and warfare
Cersei was good in this ep as well, interesting character
Smithy

The cersei scene was a mess, she'd rather kill herself than be nice to margaery :umm2:

It didn't sit well with me tbh. When she stood in front of tommen on the throne looking at her my first thought was, 'she's gonna kill her'
Then she went over and was nice to her
Tom4784
06-05-2014, 12:52 AM
I thought the Cersei scenes were excellent, the biggest reason why she was a bitch to Margaery was because she didn't want to lose her power but now her priorities have changed and she wants to secure Tommen's position and safety. It makes sense that she wants to use Margaery to her advantage and to do that she has to play nice.
It was nice to see a different side to her.
Locke.
06-05-2014, 12:57 AM
Cersei is a completely different character now to what she is in the books, it is terrible. The Crasters Keep stuff and the Pod/Brienne scenes were good but other than that a very average episode.
Emilia Clarke with the worst piece of acting the show has seen in her scene this episode as well, she is usually average but she was absolutely terrible this week.. so unconvincing with the deliverance of her lines.

Fantastic episode this week!
Tyrion is the *****ing man!!!!!
....and Shay. Who'd have thunk it ? They've obviously tortured her and stuff.
Will Tyrion put Jamie forward as his champion in a trial by combat ? Surely he will and that's why he knew exactly what he was doing and the sh*t it will cause. Love it!!!!
Locke.

I think i'll just wait for next week's episode instead.
I've gone right from the first episode and managed to avoid any (of the many) would be spoilers so i can watch every episode afresh without any prior knowledge of what's gonna' happen and that's how i'm hopefully gonna keep it.
The Dragon scene was pretty cool too. That Ramsay Snow doesn't get any more pleasant either. Out of all the heinous characters we've encountered in GoT so far i think he's gotta' be one of the worst, for me at least!

Good episode, though Dany's bit was boring as ever. Seriously one of the worst plotlines in the show ( with Brans) It sucks because Emilia Clarke is a great actress but the material she is working with is terrible. They need to highlight more on her craziness and crooked sense of justice and stop the dumb mother of dragons and love triangle (or whatever it is) stuff

Definitely the best episode of this season so far, possibly one of the best ever. Peter Dinklage has never been better than he was at the end of the trial.
Also agreed about Oberyn, great character. Mace Tyrell seems like an irritating suck up though. :idc:

can anyone confrim/have any idea if this spoiler about the dragons is true

Not true. At the start of episode 6 when Drogon killed the sheep and the guy brought the bones, in the books it is reversed and Drogon kills the child that is there with the sheep, and it's those bones that get brought. Don't know why they changed it, guess they don't want anyone to dislike Dany or the dragons which is just pathetic.
But yeah, Dany and co couldn't kill the dragons now even if they wanted to, they are too big and they don't have the resources.
Smithy
13-05-2014, 06:31 PM
The childs bones will obv be a different episode, they just showed the goat man first to show that her dragons are roaming freely
Locke.
13-05-2014, 06:39 PM
Hopefully but I doubt it, the scene is too similar
Smithy
13-05-2014, 06:43 PM
That's what it was like in the books, there were goat men, then there was the kid man
If they don't do it, then
she wouldn't capture them and she'd have like, no plot for the next season
Yeah amazing episode this week, Tyrion and Oberyn both great. I dunno what to make of Varys now though with his testifying against Tyrion and that glance he gave to the Iron Throne, surely he could never hope to sit on it himself :suspect:
Nice to see Daenerys get owned. That's the annoying thing about her, no respect for the culture and customs of societies that are thousands of years old, just does whatever the hell she fancies without thinking it through. The female Colonel Gaddafi you could say
Are the Greyjoys actually supposed to be a serious force as well or just a bunch of tramps that think they're more important than they actually are
Locke.
13-05-2014, 10:22 PM
They are a serious force. Well, Balon (Theon's dad) is a bit **** but his brothers are a lot more threatening. They should get introduced at the start of next season.
Ah right, didn't realise they had anyone that important besides Balon
Niamh.
14-05-2014, 08:57 AM
I hate the Greyjoys, it was always the worst part of the books reading about them especially in AFFCs
Locke.
14-05-2014, 09:14 AM
Euron is going to be a huge part in the next book
Or was it Victarion. Can't remember. One of them anyway.
Niamh.
14-05-2014, 09:22 AM
Euron is the Crows eye
Locke.
14-05-2014, 09:26 AM
Yeah, I just can't remember which one it was that is supposed to be a major part in the next book. I think I'm right saying Euron but
I read the released chapters from the book and Victarion has arrived at Meereen and had that whole plot in the last book of getting the dragon horn and having a red priest on his side, which is making me think it might have been him.
But yeah, outside of Theon and Asha I found them pretty boring to read about as well
Niamh.
14-05-2014, 09:58 AM
ahhh yeah, I forgot it was Victarion that went off for Euron, it's coming back to me now

Also Baelish seriously needs to up his game, you don't tell a girl you won't to shag that they could have been your daughter. Creepy bastard
Locke.
19-05-2014, 07:11 PM
Really good episode.
Lysa finally getting pushed, horrible bitch. Could have won Robb the war if she didn't withhold the entire Vale army from the right cause. Suppose that Sansa still has the opportunity to use the only untouched army in the entirety of Westeros at a future point now though. Great seeing Hot Pie as well, really didn't expect that. Melisandre and Selyse scene was a bit weird but any scene with a naked Melisandre is worth the screentime. And of course good old Oberyn's amazing speech
don't even remember if that stuff about Shireen was in the book? Not in the parts I read anyway and there was loads of focus on her when they were having the conversation about Stannis wanting to take her with them
Locke.
19-05-2014, 07:46 PM
In the books Melisandre is a bit scared/wary of Shireen for some reason that hasn't been revealed yet, I guess it plays into whatever that scene was about
How pathetic is Stansa throwing a strop over her little snow castle being knocked down, hopefully Robin will send her flying down the moon door soon
King's Landing scenes are easily the best thing about this show imo, the Melisandre/Daenery's parts were both a bit boring
Locke.

Sansa >>>> everybody else

I think it would be a very good idea to keep this thread just for discussion of the TV Show because i think there's quite a few people who haven't read the books who come into the thread to discuss the previous episode.
With a show this good people are often deeply invested in the ongoing story and even a single crucial spoiler could completely ruin someone's enjoyment of their favorite show which is never a good thing.
I've been watching the show right from the start without missing an episode and i absolutely LOVE IT!!!!!
I've managed to pretty much avoid all spoilers (apart from a couple of minor details) so far but i do find that i have to be extremely cautious when entering this thread and i completely avoid going anywhere near anything to do with GoT on Google.
Is there any chance that something like "No Book Spoilers" could be added to the thread title ?
I'm pretty sure there's a thread in the book section for discussion of the book Series so nobody would be missing out on anything.

game of thrones is not long enough you just cant fit all those stories in one episode and make it thrilling in less than a hour. they should of upped it to 1hr 30

Episode 8 sounds like it is going to be amazing. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that it'll contain Tyrion's trial by combat, the episode title itself gives that away. Here's what one of the creators have said:
“It’s one of the best — if not the best — combat scenes we’ve done so far,” Weiss said. “It’s not just people hacking at each other with spears and swords. It’s the culmination of 20 years of anger and hatred and thirst for vengeance coming to a head in this amazing set piece that [stunt coordinator Paul Herbert and swordmaster C.C. Smiff] have put together. The fight delivers beyond our expectations.”
The episode will also contain:
The Wildlings attacking Moles Town where Sam put Gilly a few weeks back. Gilly is still alive in the books but I wouldn't be surprised if they kill her... There's no way she'd survive really, is there?
&
Ramsay forcing Theon into Moat Cailin and getting the Ironborn to give it up, then flaying them all. Roose will be in the episode too.
Episode 9 will be entirely about Castle Black/the battle at the wall.

Brienne and Podrick scenes :worship:
Nice little appearance from Hot Pie, as Locke said was unexpected and welcoming, good that other characters are finally getting to know that Arya is still alive, hopefully she is reunited with somebody soon.
Like most of you, Oberyn is rapidly becoming one of my favourite characters. CANT WAIT for his and The Mountain's combat battle. COME ON OBERYN!
Tyrion remains an absolutely standout character. Peter Dinklage what a bloke.
As for Sansa's storyline... Im no surer that shes any safer than she was in King's Landing just yet... Littlefinger (who is getting very interesting) is creepy but thank **** he got rid of that crazy bat. Robin next out the moon door pls.

lol yea Sundays are loaded. i watch all those as well except for Veep and Mad Men.
figure i would/should be used to the waits in between shows over here. especially the network channels. i get it ratings wise but still sucks anyways. at least its not a month+ like some of the network shows so its not all that bad. its actually smart they do it. HBO did at times let new eps air on holidays. i remember True Blood aired a season 4 ep the day before 4th of July and it tanked. since then they usually wont air em on or close to those days. looked at an episode list and the seasons before season 4 they waited a week to air a new one so i guess they just took a chance to see how bad the ratings would be airing it so close i guess.

Right. Things I liked about the episode:
The trial by combat was perfect. I liked Oberyn a lot in the books but I loved him in the show, the actor was perfect in this role (and when he was originally cast I didn't like the casting at all). The addition of him shouting towards Tywin when asking who gave the order was brilliant. Ellaria's reaction to what followed was pretty much how I imagine most viewers will be as well, lol. Excellent acting. Oberyn will be missed.
Sansa!!! I guess we're getting into the Sansa that we haven't read about yet from the next book. She has really learned how to play the game now and it'll be great seeing how that works out next season considering we still won't be any closer to getting the book by then. I was a bit annoyed that they had her reveal to the Vale lords that she was Sansa Stark, but then I remembered that Littlefinger was planning to reveal that soon in the books anyway, guess they just decided to make it sooner in the show. In my opinion that should be the last we see of her this season (especially because episode 9 is only featuring characters at Castle Black), but most likely she'll get a scene in ep10.
At long last Jorah has been banished. I guess with Iain Glenn being a Series Regular it made sense to drag it out this long, it'll only be 3/4 episodes that he is missing from now instead of a full season. Emilia Clarke was actually good in this scene as well, first time she hasn't put in a cringeworthy performance since that "Dracarys" moment early last season. Pretty funny that her story is so boring from this point on that they've had to create a romance between Missandei and Grey Worm though.
Roose/Ramsay. That little bastard saying they are going to their new "home" (Winterfell), very annoying. I liked how Roose showed no affection or fondness or any emotion at all after legitimizing Ramsay and him going down on his knees and pledging himself to him. Horrible Boltons. The stuff in Moat Cailin felt a bit rushed and wasn't anywhere close to the books, but Alfie Allen was great in that scene.
Things I didn't like:
The Hound and Arya making it to the Eyrie, and Arya's laugh after finding out Lysa was dead. I don't know if she was laughing ironically because yet again she got so close and all hope has been snatched away again, or if it's at The Hound's expense because everyone he coulda got money for her from is gone, but either way it sucked. Why even bother have them going to the Eyrie? Silly filler that wasn't needed in an episode like this.
Tyrion and Jaime's conversation about that Lannister and crushing beetles... I get that it was a bit of foreshadowing about what was about to happen to Oberyn's head, but it didn't need to be about 5 minutes long. I think another conversation between Oberyn and Tyrion woulda been better, I think that may have been how it was in the books too. I'm sure they were drinking together beforehand.
Close to being a 10/10 but not quite there.. Next weeks will be though.

It was an excellent episode
emotionally destructive, but excellent. I shall mourn Oberyn, he was a great character and it's a shame that they didn't bring him into it earlier so we could have gotten more time with him.
It was a great fight but I'm not sure with how it turns out, supposedly the Mountain is one of the strongest and most successful warriors in Westeros right but Oberyn just made a fool out of him all fight and made him just look like a great clumsy oaf, might as well have had bloody Hodor fighting. Then Oberyn just dies because he got a bit too complacent really which is annoying, though I guess it makes it all more dramatic
Agree that the Jaime/Tyrion conversation went on a bit long for what it was, I don't really understand why they need to have filler like that when there's always so much of different storylines and characters that they can show.
(especially because episode 9 is only featuring characters at Castle Black)

I think he's one of the best fighters because his reach is so much more than pretty much everyone else in Westeros rather than him being a skillful swordsman, like Bronn said there was a chance he'd take him but one miss-step and he's dead. Oberyn is also classed among the best fighters in Westeros and despite Gregor being fast (again, according to Bronn) Oberyn was much faster.
I think the top 5 are supposed to be Barristan, Jaime before he lost his hand, the Clegane brothers, and Oberyn.
I think Oberyn's fighting style is supposed to be mostly unknown to everyone as well, so whereas he knew what to expect from Gregor, Gregor didn't know what to expect from him.

I see, suppose both the Clegane's are a couple of old school blokes more focused on their brute strength and power and Oberyn is supposed to be strongest at close quarters right, interesting that Jaime didn't think Oberyn was going to stand much chance though then he basically wiped the floor with him

**** SAKE!
Im so annoyed but that episode was perfect. I loved Oberyn's character and the fight was absolutely fantastic... they got it so right with the big build up to Oberyn's victory then **** Mountain pops his head open. My reaction mirrored Oberyn's wife to be quite honest. I liked the foreshadowing of the beetle convo between Tyrion and Jaime and also enjoy their closeness lately. Although I agree it did drag on a bit.
Sansa's character is consistently impressing me, shes really learning how to survive in her world. Im looking forward to whats to come with her and LF. And as for Arya, her laugh was great in my opinion. Completely relatable in the way of 'laughing in a situation you shouldnt' just because its so damn ironic. Id say she was laughing at the circumstance of coming so close to her family but yet again they are all dead (i.e. Red Wedding) rather than at The Hound.
I enjoyed the Dany/Jorah and Missandei/GW scenes however I find that Ramsay is becoming absolutely tiresome. Bolton? **** OFF. As for Sam/Gilly... meh, could have potential but in this ep they were irrelevant to my interest.

Not much point making Oberyn a series regular when he was a one season character and the actor isn't a big name like Sean Bean was. Olenna is out of it now, I can't remember her appearing in the books again up until the current point and hopefully the show don't bring her back either cos she's annoying. Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen has denied the claim from his sister Lily Allen that she turned down an incestuous cameo in the HBO fantasy drama.
Popstar Lily had suggested that she was asked to portray the sister of Alfie's character Theon, Yara, in a scene which would have had Theon 'touch her up'.
However, in an interview with Vulture, Alfie stated that Lily wasn't being true.
"I heard about this, yeah. The only thing I'm going to say on that is that it's not true," he said.
"And also that Gemma Whelan was always their first choice for the part. And she's fantastic. And that's the only thing I'm going to say about that."
The scene in which Theon caresses his sister - played by Gemma Whelan - is from season two's 'The Night Remembers', when the pair are riding on horseback.
However, Theon doesn't realise they're related until later on.
Lily had initially told a Reddit AMA about being offered the cameo: "I felt uncomfortable because I would have had to go on a horse and he would have touched me up and s**t.
"Once they told me what was entailed, I said no thanks. I would be open to doing a musical cameo like Sigur Ros, though."
Clearly she was lieing, as Yara is not just a cameo character

Let's hope that Ygritte slits the bastard's throat in front of all the other pathetic crows then feeds him to those weird bald guys from beyond the wall
LOL
Mind you big Samwell might make a better meal
That bloke you use to worship " The spice king " would have fed the Crows for years on end

Because he'd be able to use his wide range of spices to lay on a feast you mean

Season 3 and 4 are the action seasons, I've got some bad news if you feel like it's too slow during them
Honestly, IMO this season has felt really filler, each episodes has had maybe 2 or 3 necessary scenes, the rest has been a bit...
Arya's storyline has been 90% filler, Danys has (but I suppose her whole story ATM is filler), the trial seemed to drag on for ageeeeees with unnecessary scenes in the dungeon between Jamie/Tyrion, Brans endless wandering and get captured is how boring his story was

I did warn you all that Robb dying was a disastrous thing for the show, we'd have had a season full of him killing Greyjoy's and a nice reunion at Castle Black with Jon before he rode North and destroyed the 100,000 wildlings and then made easy work of the White Walkers
Instead we've had what you lot are classing as boring
Robb is long gone, time for you to get over him and move on

That's because that was the biggest event in the entire book series, can't say Dany has been involved in that, can you :idc:

Can people stop pretending like Robb was a main character. He doesn't even have his own point of view chapters & doesn't even therefore have many feelings/opinions/anything

Btw is the GoT monarchy like ours? So if Tommen was to die who would be the next leader? Mychella or Jamie? Or someone else?

It would go to the next male heir I think so it'd probably be Gendry or Stannis who would be next in line since Tommen obviously doesn't have kids to pass it on to.

"Tyrion, Jamie, Arya, Sansa, Ygritte, Littlefinger, Jorah, Varys & Bronn."
None are POVs.
"Especially not Ygritte shes my fave character north of the wall"
Not a POV.
"I'm sad about Joffrey & Obeyn dieing still though, I don't want to lose anyone else I like this season"
None are POVs.

If Tommen dies Myrcella is Queen. Jaime is Kingsguard so cannot inherit anything. Stannis should be King right now but he's in rebellion against the Throne so he'd be ruled out even if all the Lannisters died unless he could take the city. Gendry is also a bastard so cannot inherit anything.

Robb was a massive and important part of the entire series and people are entitled to post that about him if they like.

I didn't say people couldn't talk about him Josy, It's just weird as he's been gone for like a year,

so surely it would be wise for the people who have Mychella to try & kill Tommen, because then they can control her or make her marry one of their own?
Can people stop pretending like Robb was a main character
People aren't pretending, they are posting what they think about him and theres no denying he was a big character whether you like him or not.
You wouldn't be long in complaining if someone had posted exactly what you did with Ygritte's name instead of Robb's.

Roles announced as being cast for season 5:
Prince Doran Martell
Prince Trystane Martell
Areo Hotah
Obara Sand
Nymeria Sand
Tyene Sand
Septa Unella
Lollys Stokeworth
Yezzan
The Waif
Varamyr Sixskins
Maggy the Frog
Young Cersei
Melara
Maggy the Frog, Young Cersei and Melara means we are getting our first flashback scene, which will be
Cersei's prophecy about all her children dying and her being cast down by a younger and more beautiful Queen
Only the top 6 will play a big part, really. Kinda strange Arianne isn't mentioned though, unless they've already cast her and it hasn't been announced.

Game of Thrones has surpassed The Sopranos as HBO's most popular series of all time.
HBO has confirmed that the fourth season of the George RR Martin adaptation has averaged 18.4 million viewers.
This beats the record set by the Emmy-winning mob drama The Sopranos back in 2002, when it attracted 18.2 million viewers.
Game of Thrones has grown its audience by 4 million viewers from season three.
The fantasy series has also broken online piracy records, with the controversial episode 'The Lion and the Rose' being downloaded more than 1.5 million times in less than 24 hours.
:o
Good stuff, Sopranos is very overrated

A lot of people on westeros.org think the Greyjoy's will be cut or merged and that's why
They haven't killed Balon on the show yet
Hopefully not though. I didn't like them but they seem really important in the next book
