I never doubted dunne will be great! that was .Andy. saying he was ****e all the time lol

the one thing I was hesitant about was his pace, always looked slow but i have learned he is deceptly fast, one of our fasted defenders, if not the fastest

How much did agbonlahor cost villa? or did he come through the youth?

came through the youth, was going to be released as well, but went out on loan to watford, then mon came in and fancied him

I still dont like gabby, and never fully will

Gabby looks as thick as two planks, and plays like it too. Sorry, just not a fan.

King Gizzard
28-02-2010, 01:09 AM
Dunne was a backup option as well which is weird, I think first on our list was Upson and Hangeland

I think Collins is as good as well, I was surprised at how good the ginger pele was

Paul McGrath was the greatest ever Irish player as far as I'm concerned. Well, apart from Bestie that is. But yeah, just magic.

I've served Paul drink before lol. Used to drink down my way. Very sad. Had to refuse him a few times.

I don't get why you don't like Gabby.

He has improved mass amounts this season and last season..

He is showing his talent now and not just gte the ball and run hes made a couple of good assists..

He will be top quality give it a year or two.. he is a good scorer and will improve even more.

Take him to world cup.

King Gizzard
28-02-2010, 01:23 AM
My dads met him on a villa tour

Only person Ive met in relation to villa is Doug Ellis..signed my programme last season

It says alot when an 85+ year old man who has fought several battles with cancer and general old age can take the time and effort to sign a few autographs but the players just ignore the fans and are too concerned with how their little handbags look in theirf hand

setanta
28-02-2010, 01:24 AM
Shane Long is fairly good with supporters to be fair to him. Think Coppell instilled that kinda respect in his players.

yeah piss head, *****ed up knee's, but if he was on it he was the best, i remember him getting player of the year for villa when you finished second to man utd(cant remember the year, might of been 93) when big ron was boss, he was world class all season. and in the 94 world cup against italy he marked baggio out of the game, when baggio was the best player in the world.

Yep, not a bad player. Does his job very well and he's very agile, you know? Still though, I'd take Giggsy and Valencia over him.

Alf

has sol retired from international?
i only watched the first half today, but thought sol was great, i know he isnt in the greatest shape at the moment, but if he gets a good run in the arsenal team he can find that fitness and he has all the experience. think he's played in 3 world cups, would be a great story, from playing for notts county in the bottom league to the world cup.

King Gizzard
28-02-2010, 01:54 AM

maybe just his match fitness aint all there

Friedel

Cuellar Dunne Collins Warnock

Young Petrov Milner Downing

Heskey Agbonlahor

our strongest line up (well id rather have carew playing then ****ty heskey)

just watched the ramsey incident, i dont blame shawcross what so ever, it was a 50/50 ball which both were intitled to compete for and it was unlucky(thats life), i hope it dosen't play on shawcross's mind and ruin his international chances, the kid felt genuinely gutted more so for ramsey than himself.

Both sides played well and had their chances:thumbs:. Villa are consistently improving and still in a shot for 4th place and FA Cup so can use this to continue their progress and take the positives out of it.

So Rangers, Liverpool and Spurs won then.

Yes. Not our best performance by a long shot, but we did enough to win and deserved it. I felt like we didn't 'want' the ball enough in a couple of key spots, and Blackburn were first to the ball a lot. Reina had a great game, made a few amazing saves and was my man of the match.
Every time El Haji Djouf got within 5 yards of the ball the whole of anfield just boo'd him... I guess nobody ever forgot about the spitting incident, years after it happened
Mascherano was playing right wing for a lot of the game, and he was really line hugging it. Worked very well, as Blackburns left back played fairly central. So what happened a lot of the time was Gerrard or Yossi would belt the ball from the left side over to the right win, Masch would sprint up the right hand side into the corner, cut across and put the ball in the middle... that happened a few times and it created a lot of good chances.

It's too far to travel, 4.5 hours there and 5 hours back. If I lived nearer I'd probably just get a season ticket :)
Yeah its a shame Tottenham and Man City both won this weekend. Just got to hope Torres stays fit, and we should give Man U a good match. Will be interesting if Rafa goes all out for the Europa cup. We are favorites, and it might be good for morale to try as hard as we can to win it. Don't want it to get in the way of getting that 4th place spot though.

andyman

4th place is going to be a tough ride, 4 clubs fighting for one spot.. We should not be in this mess. :(

If we fail to end the season 4th then there is always next season to fix our troubles, but my main fear is that Torres and few others might want to jump ship after the World Cup.. Maybe I've been reading too many newspapers.. Fek!

True the Europa League is within our reach and we have the know how to go all the way, just aslong our players keep their chins up.. Been a problem with us.

Stoke City's midfielder Glenn Whelan has spoken of his anguish after being the first player on the scene of Aaron Ramsay's horrific injury at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday. He also said he had tried to help the player by trying to get the 19-year-old take his mind off the injury.

"I was the next one in from the tackle, and saw what had gone on," the Ireland international said. "I was just trying to take the lad's mind off it. It was the first time I had seen it [an injury like that], and touch wood it will never happen again.

"I was just there, and if I was on the other side of the pitch, I would probably have not gone anywhere near him. I was just trying to do what I could to take the lad's mind off it. The lad held onto me with the pain he was going through, and I was telling him not to think about it. He was in a state of shock. The medical team came on as quickly as possible, and then you just let them take over."

Whelan accepts players walk a fine line when it comes to tough tackling - but maintains there was no malice in Ryan Shawcross' challenge on Ramsey. "First and foremost, everyone hopes the young lad gets back as soon as possible, and at the standard he plays at, because he looks a terrific player. As for Shawcross, he was disappointed what has happened to the boy.

"I do not think anyone goes into a tackle looking to break a leg or injure a player, but there is fine line between being hard and being dirty. The two players could go in for that tackle 100 times again and nothing would happen. Hopefully this was just a one-off."

Whelan has not seen the incident again - and does not want to. "You have got young people watching the game live, who probably could not stomach something like this, and so they were probably right not to show it again at the time," the midfielder said. "I have not seen the tackle again, and if it came on, I would probably turn the television off.

Rory Delap and Danny Pugh, meanwhile, have defended Stoke's style of play in the wake of injury. Ramsey has been backed to make a full recovery but he is likely to be sidelined for several months after breaking both bones in his right shin in a challenge with Shawcross which led to the Stoke centre-back being sent off.

Arsène Wenger condemned the tackle as "horrendous and unacceptable" but Delap said the Arsenal manager was wrong. "The tackle didn't look at all malicious. I spoke to the referee and he said he didn't think Ryan meant it, but he had to send him off," Delap said.

"I know Ryan and he wouldn't mean to do that. Ryan was in tears and he is not a lad who would go out to do that. He will be devastated and we will need to pick him up. But our thoughts are with Aaron."

Delap added: "Everyone knows what we are about. We are physical, but there's not one person in our dressing room that would do that [deliberately injure an opponent]. It is very rare in the whole of football that someone does go out to hurt someone."

Pugh backed up that view by saying: "We are a fully committed side, but we never go out to injure anyone, just give 100% to the game whether we are playing Arsenal, Man City or whoever."

Ramsey can expect to make a full recovery according to the surgeon who successfully helped his Arsenal team-mate Eduardo recover from a similar injury.

Khalid Baloch was the consultant trauma surgeon at Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham when Eduardo broke his leg in similar circumstances following a tackle from Martin Taylor.

Eduardo made a return to action after a year on the sidelines and Baloch, who has only seen pictures of Ramsey's injury, believes the Wales international faces a similar rehabilitation.

"I expect it is deja vu for Arsenal's staff and will bring back memories for them. If you look at the pictures it is similar to where Eduardo was holding his leg," Baloch said.

"The Arsenal physios and doctors have seen this before though and it will be fresh in their minds. I expect eventually Ramsey will have the same type of intensive rehab and play again. Arsenal's physios did a great job with Eduardo.

He added: "There were some similarities with Eduardo and a leg break is usually six to nine months out."

You may not go out to injure players, but you know your team takes people out especially us to stop our play.

Not like that, the way i look at it..

If refs gave out cards to stoke more they wouldnt be going in so hard, they go in so hard on their opponents, and they do go into fabregas to foul him intentionally, they dont know how to deal with him or our football..

Ref's are used to stoke doing it though and it seems have become rather linient, they get away with things other teams wouldn't. If he had given out 2 - 3 deserved yellow cards this possibly could have been avoided, i know this was just accident but shawcross went in extremely hard leg swinging, if he was on yellow already he wouldnt be going in on a rash challenege the way he did..

Arsenal are finalising a four-year deal with Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis negotiating the Moroccan’s contract, so Arsene Wenger has at least secured one new signing for next season.
Chamakh is out of contract this summer so entitled to speak to Gazidis but the club are unlikely to announce it until the end of the season out of respect for Bordeaux. Chamakh has made little secret of the move.
‘I’ve dreamed of the Premier League since I was a little boy. I am ready to discover the experience for myself,’ he said last week.

With profits of £35.2million for the six months to November 2009 and debt cut by £129m, Arsenal fans are hoping Wenger will spend this summer.
At least one centre-half will join, maybe two, if William Gallas does not agree a new contract. (Daily Mail)

Arsenal have outlined West Brom star Graham Dorrans as a summer transfer target, according to reports.

A host of clubs including Newcastle United, Sunderland, Celtic and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for Dorrans, who has been one of the star performers in the Championship this season.

Arsenal have been following the Scottish international closely and it is thought a bid in the region £6 million would be enough to secure the players services.

Wenger is looking to add more depth to his squad after losing young Aaron Ramsey for the rest of this season after breaking his leg in a challenge with Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross.

It is thought that the 22-year-old would favour a move to the Emirates in the summer, especially with Arsenal’s track record of developing young talent.

Dorrans made over 35 appearances for West Brom scoring eight goals since he completed his move to The Hawthorns in 2008.

In his Sunday Mail column, Piers Morgan recounts his chance meeting with Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas at Naomi Campbell's Haiti fundraising fashion show earlier this month. Fabregas promised Morgan, an avid Arsenal fan, that he is not leaving the Emirates Stadium.

Media star Morgan claims to have asked Fabregas three times whether he will be leaving Arsenal and received clear reassurances such as "I'm not leaving Arsenal" and "No Piers, I am not quitting Arsenal."

Barcelona in particular have been heavily linked with midfield maestro Fabregas over the past few weeks. He has been in irrepressible form for Arsenal this season, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists in 30 appearances.

Morgan summarized his conversation with Fabregas, "Three times I asked the question, three times he reassured me. Yet still I’m nervous."

See i dont agree that statistics are evidence in the case that arsenal are targetted and roughed up and fouled more..

Stoke.. Bolton.. blackburn.. they get away with fouls, no foul is given half the time when they do something, the refs are lenient with them as it happens so often..

Like rosicky said, we have 1 - 2 fouls and our player is booked they can have 5 - 6 some fouls arent given and sometimes it takes 6-7 for them to get a yellow..

William Gallas' wage demands could price Roma out of the market for him, just hours after coach Claudio Ranieri confirmed an interest.

Arsenal have yet to tie the defender down at the Emirates, leaving Roma with room to negotiate and arrange an offer for him.

But before they bring out the plans, they are likely to reconsider as Il Corriere Dello Sport claims the player's high wages will ruin any chance of the Frenchman moving to the Eternal city.

Gallas has rejected Arsenal's initial offer of a two-year term worth €2 million per annum plus €500,000 in bonuses.

But the Lupi are hopeful Ranieri's relationship with Gallas swings the pendulum in his favour. It was the Italian who landed Gallas at Chelsea from Marseille in 2001.

"Gallas would do well at Roma," Ranieri said on Friday.

Roma are said to be in negotiations with the player's agent Pierre Frelot and they will attempt to meander around grandiose salary demands.

I'll be back, insists horror-injury victim Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey has spoken for the first time about his horror injury - but made no mention of Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, who broke his right leg.

Arsenal's brilliant teenage midfielder instead made a point of thanking Shawcross's team-mate Glenn Whelan for his help on the pitch immediately after the collision, which shattered both bones in the lower leg.

Ramsey, 19, said: 'I remember what happened clearly and after the tackle went in I saw that my leg was broken and hanging at an angle. I have seen images of the aftermath again but I don't want to dwell too much on the challenge as I can't change what has happened.'

Ramsey vowed to return 'fitter and stronger than before' but his statement could leave a lingering sense of bad feeling between the two clubs after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to withdraw his description of the tackle as 'horrendous and unacceptable'.

Shawcross, called into England's squad for the first time this week, has tried to contact the Wales youngster to apologise. He had left the field in tears after being shown the red card by referee Peter Walton, and Stoke manager Tony Pulis claimed he had received sympathy from senior members of the England squad during the week of his first senior international call-up.

Shawcross, who began his career at Manchester United, also received a supportive phone call from Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson. But Ramsey refrained from making the young centre half feel any better about what happened.

He said: 'It is difficult for me to take everything in at the moment. I thought I had been progressing well this season so, of course, this is a real setback.

'I had an operation last weekend and while it will take time for my leg to heal, I am determined and focused on overcoming this injury and hope to be back fitter and stronger than before. I am young and have time on my side.

'Glenn Whelan was especially kind and I really appreciated his immediate assistance on the pitch.

'I have also been overwhelmed by the terrific support I've received from so many people, including fans from many different clubs.

'In particular, I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at both hospitals, and the medical support from Stoke City. I also want to say thanks to Arsenal for helping my family this week.

'Last, but certainly not least, I have been blown away by the fantastic messages of support from the Arsenal fans. I am proud to be an Arsenal player and your support has been incredibly touching.

'I also want to wish my teammates all the best for the remainder of the season. I know we are capable of winning a trophy and I will be backing them all the way.'

So because he said nothing about shawcross ramsey is a twat?

The Daily Mail reckon Juventus will let Felipe Melo join Arsenal in the summer but only if The Gunners sweeten the deal by allowing one of three players move in the opposite direction.

The Brazilian midfielder hasn’t enjoyed a vintage season in Turin since joining from Fiorentina for £21 million last summer and the Bianconeri are willing to cash in – but only if Arsenal throw Robin Van Persie, Gael Clichy or Bacary Sagna into the equation.

Now, Arsenal could do with a player in Melo’s mould – i.e, a decent defensive midfielder to compliment Fabregas – so if I were Arsene Wenger (and if this swap deal is actually on the table) then I would be sorely tempted to let Gael Clichy leave in return for the Brazilian.

Of the three, Clichy is definitely the most expendable to Arsenal as, when fit, Kieran Gibbs looks like a perfectly decent replacement for the French left back and Armand Traore could provide adequate cover when needed.

However, my tactic would be to melt a Viennetta over Emmanuel Eboue’s head and try to convince Juventus that he’s Bacary Sagna. - LOL!!! AHAHAHA...

In all honestly id just offer money.
As for Van Persie? hes worth far more than Melo.

But that view should not be allowed to overshadow something much more positive, because along with their conspiracy theories, Arsenal left the Britannia Stadium last week with three valuable points after standing up to Stoke’s physical approach.

Even before Ryan Shawcross saw red to lend an advantage, the visitors had produced the tools for a fight in a way they haven’t always been able to manage. This time, however, the call to arms was answered. People such as Sol Campbell, Thomas Vermaelen, Alexander Song and Emmanuel Eboué provided some muscle to accompany the magic. Nobody bullied this lot last Saturday night, a fact that got buried underneath the uproar.

It shouldn’t be forgotten at the Emirates, though. The home dressing room, in fact, should feed off that resolute display before going out to face Burnley today. With 10 games to go and Arsenal facing the easiest run-in on paper of the contenders, who’s to say that the title won’t end up in north London?

That sounds ridiculous, I know, when you think back to how Chelsea and Manchester United put Arsenal in their place. A gulf in power and experience meant that, at the end of those four dispiriting defeats, Wenger’s boys looked anything but champions-in-waiting.

We can forget about all that now, though. It’s about what lies ahead rather than what went before and Arsenal’s challenge rests with overcoming sides mainly in the bottom half of the table. Since they’ve been fairly good at that this season, you simply can’t rule them out, especially if their approach remains steely strong.

Roman Pavlyuchenko: with six goals in his last four games, Tottenham’s forgotten man is back in the limelight. Fulham’s Wembley dreams depend on stopping him on Saturday.

Right im a big Fulham fan... (not to the extent im an Arsenal fan but still like them)
So do i want fulham to win and possibly go on to win the f.a cup..

Or do i want fulham to lose.. focus on the league and let tottenham hopefully burn out with having more games..

Thomas Vermaelen has praised veteran defender Sol Campbell and the effect he's had on the team since joining the club in January.

Campbell returned to Arsenal for his second spell at the club after nearly six months out of the game, joining as a free agent after leaving Notts County.

Due to an injury to William Gallas, Campbell has found himself in the team more than was perhaps expected of a player initially signed as backup, but Vermaelen believes his experience has been invaluable for the team.

He said: "Sol has so much experience and is so strong physically that if we have to play more games without William Gallas we can do it.

"I can learn a lot from him - about my positioning on the pitch, I have learned a lot from William and from Sol on that already in my time in England."

The Belgian went on to say that he believes Arsenal can win the title and that confidence is high at the club.

He said: "I can feel in the dressing room the players are really ambitious. In training and in the games we are giving 100 per cent. We are mentally strong now, we believe we can do it."

"Chelsea and Manchester United still have to play eachother and all play against big teams. We hope they drop points and that we can win every game."

Will you be saying that if an Arsenal player got booked for a challenge that deserved it?;). Tackles are always going to be part of the game I would be horrified if someone had malicious intent but some players and managers need to stop spitting the dummy out and get on with it:D.

Being physical is used a lot nowadays if a team thinks that will help them against Arsenal so be it.. injuries are horrific but thats football for you:).

Its not anything to do with that... of course i would agree if they do a bad tackle..

But the problem is refs have been letting teams like stoke, burnley, wolves, portsmouth, bolton.. They get 5, 6 , 7 fouls then get a yellow card we do one or 2 fouls and we get a yellow card.
