Defiant Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill believes he has 'earned the right' to stay at the club next season.

O'Neill's future at Villa has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks following rumours that he could quit Villa Park.

It has been suggested the former Celtic man could walk away from the club in the summer, but O'Neill is hoping to stay and is planning to hold talks with Villa owner Randy Lerner at the end of the season

"I would really hope to be [at Villa next season]," said O'Neill.

"I think I've earned that right. As far as I'm concerned it's straightforward.

"People make judgments and calls and I will see if the Villa fans are disgruntled with it.

"I will then see if the chairman, who has a big say in proceedings, agrees with that.

"There are people with a big say. I include Villa fans, the chairman and myself in that. If this season has turned out pretty well, great. If it hasn't, I will sit and assess things then with my employer, the chairman."

Great news:). I never believed MON wanted to leave because he's happy at the Villa and wants to carry on the project there, stupid papers talking crap yet again:sleep:.

"ALEX FERGUSON believes David Moyes is the man to succeed him at Old Trafford.

SunSport revealed yesterday the Manchester United boss is ready to step down after one more season.

Ferguson, 68, is convinced that Everton boss Moyes can provide the continuity United crave to keep them challenging for the top honours.

Jose Mourinho is the bookies' favourite and enjoys a close relationship with Ferguson from his time as a rival boss with Chelsea.

But the United hierarchy, including the influential Sir Bobby Charlton, are not convinced.

Ferguson knows fellow Glaswegian Moyes, 46, well and has constantly championed his achievements at Preston and now Everton.

He also believes it is right to give a good British manager the chance to take one of the big jobs in football."

Would be amazing for Moysey but I wouldn't want to lose him tbh, he's done amazing things for us in the 8 years he's been at Goodison. He's not had the experience in Europe either really (not successfully anyway) but maybe this would be his chance to take that next step up. I know Fergie is a big fan of Moyes :)

We definetly won't but life moves and Fergie will know the club is in safe hands with whoever takes over and I definetly think he'll have some input behind the scenes, as he's not the type to sit at home and rest his feet in front of the TV;).

I like Moyes and he would be a great option however I think Mourinho will be the one to take over, however the only thing that lets him down is his lack of work with younger players which United do a lot of:).

Rumours - Steven Gerrard linked to pregnant 16-year-old

I don't get out of bed for anything less than a potentially sensational story, and this one could be enormous.

There's a rumour spreading like wildfire on the internet that Steven Gerrard is facing accusations he got a 16-year-old Liverpool girl pregnant.

Fan site Redcafe.net report that the News of the World are planning to break the story on Sunday - while some sources are suggesting Gerrard has a court injunction to keep the girl quiet.

There are also rumours circulating that Gerrard's wife Alex Curran has been having an affair with a Derby County player.

According to some sites, Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after finding out about the affair.

Of course, it could all be scurrilous gossip with no foundation whatsover. Watch this space.

Evra is great, just had a few off weeks recently but that's entirely down to the fact that he's played in every one of United's games.

yeah, Berbatov seemed much more up for it. Nani was rubbish as per usual apart from the goal. He has so much talent but his end product is always lacking. Brainless footballer. Maybe he'll learn though.

I agree about Evra, a little blip here and there doesn't matter as he has been very vital this season.. one of my favourite players:).

Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, according to his rival Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United striker is the favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year this evening and could become the third player to land both the outright gong and the Young Player award.

Rooney, who could miss the rest of United's season after picking up a groin injury on Thursday, has enjoyed the campaign of his career after smashing 34 goals to elevate him as one of the top players in world football.

But the 24-year-old believes Barcelona's Messi is more deserving of the ultimate accolade and has hailed him as the outstanding star of his generation.

"It's nice that people put me up there, but I think Lionel Messi is the best in the world," he told United Review.

"The things he can do with the ball are unbelievable and he is scoring a lot of goals as well.

"He has been fantastic again this year. He is the best player in the world."

I do too:D, even if United finish second I will be proud because of the problems we've had, and being written off in some quarters because of Ronaldo and Tevez leaving:p.

I disagree i think Fabregas should have got it.

Hes 2 years younger and he has carried our team this season.
Our leading scorer and over 20 assists in all competitions.

Any of them were a good choice but i just thought rooney player of the year fabregas young player of the year.

but then hes english i guess.
