Albert Riera has indicated that he wants to leave Liverpool after revealing that his relationship with Rafael Benítez has deteriorated to the point where he thinks the manager has something against him.

In an outspoken attack on Benítez, Riera said the manager "turns a deaf ear" to his players and described Liverpool as a "sinking ship". He also questioned whether his fellow Spaniard was suited to the Real Madrid job because his style of football is not attractive enough.

Riera has played only twice for Liverpool since the end of January, making one start and one substitute's appearance in the Europa League, and the midfielder is giving serious consideration to asking for a transfer in an effort to earn a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

Mario Balotelli still has a future at Inter Milan according to president Massimo Moratti.

The 19-year old, who has become a serious target for Arsenal, was left out of Inter’s squad for the Champions League clash with Chelsea on Tuesday as the result of a reported row with manager Jose Mourinho but Moratti confirms he is still a required play for the Nerazzurri.

“Mourinho made the right decision and if he made the right decision it means that the others aren't doing their best for the club," he told Inter's official website.

"Balotelli has the talent and ability to be a serious professional. He will show us this and then we will all be at peace again."

Young Arsenal left-back Armand Traore has spoken about his desire to one day play for Paris St Germain, although he is keen to stay in England for now.

The 20 year-old has found himself as first-choice understudy to fellow Frenchman Gael Clichy at Arsenal, with Kieran Gibbs having suffered a long-term injury. As a result, Traore has made 8 Premier League appearances for the Gunners so far this season.

Traore moved to Arsenal from Monaco in 2006 and has told the publication Le Parisien that he wants to move back to France and specifically to the club of his dreams, Paris St Germain.

He said, "PSG will always be PSG… They are a great club which made a whole generation of people dream during the years 1990-2000.

Lazio’s highly-rated keeper Fernando Muslera has spoken of his pride at being flatteringly linked with a possible move to Arsenal this summer.

The North London club are understood to be monitoring the Uruguayan shot stopper as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his goalkeeping options.

The 23-year-old joined Lazio in 2007 and his performances as the Italian club’s undisputed number one have led to interest from the Premier League, notably Arsenal.

Wenger is said to be keen and Muslera who admits he is pleased and flattered to on the radar of one of England’s top clubs.

“It is important that a Premier League club like Arsenal have been monitoring my progress and it motivates me to play even better,” he said.

Muslera, who will be going to the World Cup with Uruguay this summer, is reportedly close to agreeing a new four-year deal with Lazio, but might be tempted otherwise if interest from abroad becomes more serious. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

Arsenal are ready to enter new contract talks with William Gallas.

The Mirror says Arsenal are set for contract talks with Gallas, 32, after Wenger hinted that the club may be ready to bend their rules and offer him a two-year extension.

The club normally only offers 30-somethings an extra one year. Arsenal face competition from Claudio Ranieri's Roma for the France international.

Arsenal are looking to sign exciting Ajax teenager Christian Eriksen but Arsene Wenger may have to be patience to get his man.

The Gunners boss has heard nothing but good things about the 18-year-old attacking midfielder who recently made his full debut for Denmark as a substitute in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Austria.

One of Eriksen's admirers is ex-Arsenal favourite Dennis Bergkamp, who also happens to be Ajax's youth team coach.

Felipe Melo set for Arsenal move after new problems surface at Juventus
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is preparing a cut-price move for Felipe Melo after the midfielder suffered another setback in his Juventus career.

The Brazilian has failed to settle in Turin since joining from Serie A rivals Fiorentina last summer, and looks set to leave this year after a spat with fans at the weekend.

Melo was involved in an altercation with supporters during their 3-3 draw with Siena - the latest incident leading to an erosion of support for him at Juve.

In an apology on the club's website, Melo wrote: 'I said something I shouldn't have said. I'm sorry about my behaviour.

'I know every Juventus' fan supports us, even if there's a minority that sometimes whistles and criticises us during the match.

'My team-mates and I need to feel the whole stadium's support.

'I wanted to ask people in the curved [vocal] sector [of the stadium] to support us, but a part of them were not doing so.'

Given the playmaker's problems, Juventus are unlikely to be able to recoup the full £21 million fee they paid, thus alerting Wenger - who always has an eye for a good deal.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has handed Arsene Wenger a boost by returning to full training yesterday.

The Spanish midfielder had been sidelined with a hamstring injury and has missed Arsenal's last two games but now appears set to return for Saturday's clash with West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.

Fabregas has been in sensational form for Arsenal this season, having scored 17 goals and contributed 12 assists in 32 games for the Gunners. His performances will likely be crucial for Wenger's side during the Premier League run-in.

Fellow midfielder Tomas Rosicky is also set to return from injury and will be in contention for Saturday's game and Alex Song will also be available for selection following suspension.

Liverpool were playing against a weak little side who never really fancied it. Lille can play nice football but they were lacking any real confidence on the night and they're very lightweight up front. Anyway, judging things on that performance, I shouldn't think Liverpool will pose many problems for United in Old Trafford.

Pepe Reina Signs New Six-Year Contract: The Future Liverpool Captain?

Pepe Reina has finally agreed to a four year extension that will see his contract run until 2016, ensuring Liverpool have one of the very best 'keepers in the world for a long time to come.

It's testament to Reina's commitment to the club as the Spanish shot stopper makes his decision during what looks set to be an unusually poor season under the tenure of Rafael Benitez.

Quite possibly the first name on the team sheet, Reina has been the most consistent player at Anfield during this difficult campaign. When heads have dropped, the Spaniard is still doing all he can to rally his teammates and get them focused again.

The Madrid born 'keeper is highly respected in the dressing room, looked up to on the training ground by academy trainees. Even when Reina is on the bench, he can be seen encouraging the players with the commitment and vigour that makes him one of the best loved personalities on and off the field.

With Steven Gerrard nearing the end of his captaincy, there really could be no finer replacement than the current Liverpool goalkeeper. He has all the trademark leadership qualities necessary: the ever important consistency wanted from a captain, as well as the respect needed to direct his troops and have them running through walls for the cause.

Quite easily the best signing Rafael Benitez has made since taking charge. The 27-year-old is about to hit the peak of his career and the new long term £80,000 a week contract ensures Pepe Reina's best years are seen at Anfield.

Agent dismisses Serie A link for Arsenal fullback Sagna

The agent of Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna has dismissed talk of a summer move to Serie A.

The France international has been linked with Juventus and Roma this month.

"Sagna is very well at Arsenal and I don't think right now there may be a club willing to make an important offer for the player," Christophe Mongai told Calciomercato.it.

"If not, in front of a valid proposal, Arsenal could think about it.

"Roma and Juventus? Nobody has called me from Italy."

Arsenal’s Under 18’s begin their difficult final run in tomorrow with the longest trip in the League, to Wales to face Cardiff City. With an 11 game unbeaten run, Steve Bould’s side have remained consistent where his team selection hasn’t. Injuries and Reserve team duty has depleted the resources on various occasions this season, opening the door for some of the starlets of the future to make an early mark. One player who looks to be taking advantage of the game time is promising midfielder Jamie Edge.

A summer signing from Cheltenham Town in a protracted transfer saga, Edge began his career with Arsenal in the Under 16’s where he always looked ready for a step up to the next level. Form at Under 18 level has been difficult to come by, with injuries scuppering the potential to put together a string of games. After last weekend’s excellent performance against Milton Keynes Dons, Jamie is showing real signs that he is beginning to settle down to life with the Gunners and show his real qualities.

Jamie started on the right of a three man midfield and turned in a typically hard working and stylish performance. The delightful back heel to release Oğuzhan Özyakup for Benik Afobe’s second goal showed exactly why Liam Brady was happy to splash out £100,000 for his services. Throughout the game, the 16-year-old chased, hassled and fought for every ball in a dominant box-to-box role. Quiet but effective is the ultimate way of describing this hard working talent.

Whether Bould feels Edge is ready for a tough game such as Cardiff City, we’ll find out tomorrow. Home games are easier to show off his technical talents, yet at well over 6 foot, a physical away game would be no problem for the former Manchester United trialist.

With such a large price tag and little to show for it so far, many will be critical of Jamie Edge, but as he begins to settle in, the signs certainly look good that Arsenal have another promising and versatile prospect on their hands.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to make a summer move for Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo after the Brazilian combative midfielder responded to criticism over his form by criticising the Turin fans.

Juventus lost 4-1 to Fulham to crash out of the Europa League with Melo coming under intense scrutiny from fans of the Old Lady. The big summer signing from Fiorentina has struggled to find the form that persuaded Juve chiefs to invest a reported £15 million in the player, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger ready and waiting to snap up Melo at a bargain price.

Arsenal failed last summer in their attempts to snap up the 26-year-old with the player opting for a Serie A stay by switching from Fiorentina to Juventus. However, following a testing first season in Turin and heavy criticism in the media, Melo has been heavily tipped to cut short his stay with the bianconeri with several suitors lining up to register their interest, however Arsenal are sort to be the frontrunners for the Samba star's signature.

Melo told Football Italia: "I’ll continue to defend the Juventus jersey,”

“I’m not bothered about the fans. I’m paid to go and defend the Juve shirt on the pitch and that is exactly what I do.

“Perhaps our fans can learn from the example set by the Fulham supporters who continued to back their team even when they were losing.”

Melo could be sold in the summer along with fellow Brazilian born stars Amauri and Diego, who are also reportedly unsettled with life at Juventus. Arsene Wenger, live on French TV last month could not rule out making another move a move for the Brazilian following his unsuccessful spell at the Old Lady. Regarding the future of Melo Juve chief Blanc said before the Fulham fixture:

"Felipe Melo will remain with us but we won't be commenting further on any future dealings."

I’m sure Harry Redknapp will be interested to hear the comments of his Moroccan playmaker Adel Taarabt who says: “I don’t want to go back to Tottenham.”

Currently enjoying his loan spell with QPR, the man once dubbed ‘the new Zidane’ also admits it was a ‘big mistake’ going to Spurs in the first place.

He wishes he’d gone to Arsenal when he had the chance and reflects: “I was going to go to Arsenal and Comolli was there with Wenger. “But he went to Tottenham so I went there. That was a big mistake for me.

"My friends in England - like Armand Traore and Abou Diaby at Arsenal - told me Tottenham were not the right fit for me.

"The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham and not go to another club when I first came over."

Taarabt insists Redknapp believes in his ability - but after failing to impress at Spurs he does not want to return following his loan with QPR.

"Juande Ramos didn't know me at all and I had one bad performance when we lost 4-1 to Newcastle and after that he never gave me my chance," he continued.

"Harry Redknapp told me I was a fantastic player with a big talent but he wanted me to go to the Championship, play some games and then come back to play for him. But I don't want to go back to Tottenham."

The 18-year-old who plays for Santos is tipped to be a star of the future and City thought they were in pole position to strike a deal after agreeing to loan Robinho to the Brazilian club in January.

City had first option as part of Robinho's loan deal but reports claim that Santos are struggling to meet the player's wages which could result in him returning to Eastlands.

If that is the case then the Neymar situation also changes and Chelsea could nip in and strike a deal, although Real Madrid are also in the hunt to sign him.

Aston Villa are ready to battle it out with Everton for the signature of Wolves striker Kevin Doyle this summer.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he faces a huge struggle to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland ace if they are relegated and both Villa and Everton are keeping tabs on his situation.

McCarthy's men are battling for their lives and have a good chance of staying in the top flight after they drew 2-2 with Villa on Saturday while both Hull and Burnley both lost.

Doyle has hinted he could stay if Wolves stay up but offers will still come and McCarthy's resolve will be tested in the summer.

"Mick pulled me and a couple of others aside and told us that he planned to really strengthen the squad if we stayed up," Doyle revealed.

Tottenham and Fulham have also been linked and the striker may find it difficult to turn down the terms on offer if other clubs do coming knock at the end of the season.

Villa and rooney would be scary good. He already sets up torres a lot on international level, rooney and him together would be amazing.

Funny to think doyle helped us when we was in the pl now he could move to some big team. (reading i mean)

I agree it would be amazing:), however still have my doubts Villa would move to England as he has insisted he wants to stay in Spain but perhaps a change of mind could happen?.

Yes they do but there is no denying you would have won as many games without rooney in the team what is it 27 league goals?

Fabregas is important for us no doubt. But we have had our stirker out all season.. and we are still in a good position, we played with someone who is like 5 foot 6 upfront for over a month aswell.

Liverpool have shown what they are like without torres aswell which isnt very good..

Chelsea still do very well without drogba tho.

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is being linked with a shock £15million move to German giants Bayern Munich.
The Denmark ace has found his shooting boots in recent weeks and reports now claim that Bayern are keen to take him to the Allianz Arena if they can agree a deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is sure to put a block on the move as he sees Bendtner as a key figure in his future plans but that may not stop Bayern making an approach.

The Frenchman hopes to bring in Marouane Chamakh on a free transfer from Bordeaux during the summer but that does not mean he is looking to sell Bendtner and any offers from Bayern will be rebuffed.

Meanwhile the Gunners are also said to be lining up an £8million bid for AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Arsenal boss Wenger dreads more Barcelona transfer talk for Cesc

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger knows their Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona will spark a new round of transfer speculation for captain Cesc Fabregas.

Wenger is keen for the build-up not to focus on Cesc's links with Barca.

"I believe it is an exciting tie for football reasons," he told arsenal.com.

"The worry in the modern game is when you go to matches, you do not focus on football any more.

"When Chelsea played against Man City, people were more focussed on the Wayne Bridge/John Terry handshake. I was excited to watch a good football game.

"We have to make sure in our job we focus on what is important and what we love, it is not the stories which the media dictates to people - it should be about what really matters to people and that means football.

"In my job, I have to make sure that is the case."

Arsenal Comment: Manuel Almunia Goes From Scapegoat To Title Saviour In One Fell Swoop

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has always been picked out as the weak link in the team but his superhuman penalty save against West Ham has rescued his reputation as well as the Gunners’ title bid.

Brian Clough famously said that a great goalkeeper is worth 12 points a season. Almunia’s denial of Diamanti from 12 yards could be worth all of those at once.

The spot kick saviour preserved Arsenal’s clean sheet and in doing so sent the Gunners to the top of the league. Arsene Wenger’s side has now stretched their winning run to an incredible six games in a row.

The sending off of Thomas Vermalen was soft. Yes, there was contact but if that was always an offense then you would see 10 penalties in every game.

Had the game gone to 1-1, it would have been very hard for Arsenal to get themselves back on top with just 10 men. And if Arsenal had dropped two points against West Ham, this side’s incredible momentum would also have been lost.

One gets the feeling that if Arsenal are to win the Premier League title, they really must win every single one of their remaining games. With Manchester United, Chelsea and the Gunners all so close, every point is crucial.

Almunia’s dramatic dive to keep out Diamanti’s well-taken penalty not only keeps Arsenal in the race but pumps up the pressure on their rivals who still have to play each other.

Sure, the Spaniard came off his line. But show me a goalkeeper in the Premier League that doesn’t. In fact, saving a penalty is such a tough call that such a rule shouldn’t even be an issue.

Whatever the result is of that game between Chelsea and Manchester United, one thing’s for certain now: it’s going to be good news for the Gunners. But the north London side must now maintain their form against Birmingham next week.

The loss of Vermaelen for three games as a result of his sending off this evening will be hard felt. Sol Campbell has come in and done an excellent job in the absence of William Gallas but he looks vulnerable at times. Arsenal’s recent success and the increasing numbers of clean sheets has been down to these two hard men building a successful partnership.

Campbell has been dominant in the air for Arsenal but Vermaelen is also no slouch with his head. The Belgian also could be relied to tidy up his at times clumsy team-mate’s mistakes thanks to his quick feet and excellent reading of the game.

Arsenal fans were relieved to see that Wenger did not turn to Mikael Silvestre when a replacement was required, instead turning to the excellent Alex Song.
The pairing of Silvestre and Campbell is not the solution if the Gunners are to win the next three games until the Belgian returns.

The hugely improved Song must stand-in for Vermaelen while the two veterans are rotated. Wenger must just hope that that decision does not weaken his midfield too much. No one in the squad can protect the back four like the Cameroon man can.

But all that worry can wait because thanks to Almunia’s moment of redemption, Arsenal are sitting top of the league - and now it’s up to their rivals to catch them.

I would back you guys if United were to go out and you go through against Barca:p.

Then again the Arsenal defence would need to be very organised;). RVP is a quality player shame he's injured.. looks like Fabregas and Arshavin will have to try and cause as much problems as they can with Rosicky and co trying to contain Barca's midfield:D.

Yes Valencia was clean through on goal and Mascherano got a tug on outside the box to try and stop him from his chance of scoring so ended up losing his balance before falling in the penalty area. However for Benitez to imply Valencia is a dirty player when he clearly isn't is a right joke:laugh:.

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has a superb goalscoring record with Los Blanco’s. He has a ratio of a goal every other game.

For most strikers that would be good enough to earn you a regular place in the starting line-up and the fans acclaim. However this is Real Madrid were talking about and they are on a different planet.

Scapegoat

The Argentinian striker received fierce criticism after Real’s Champion’s League exit at the hands of French side Lyon. He deserved some of the criticism because of the amount of chances he missed in that game in the Bernabeu but it was a poor team display and Higuain is just one of those players in the team.

Cristiano Ronaldo moaned that Higuain didn’t pass the ball to him and that he was too much of an individual. The two are in a completely different category. Ronaldo is seen as indispensable but Higuain seems to be treated like an outsider.

Galactico

Higuain is not and never will be considered a Galactico. It seems no matter what he does at Real he will always be second best to the latest Galactico. He has the potential and the talent to become a top class player but I don’t believe he can fulfil his potential in the shadow of the likes of Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema, who are considered Galactico’s.

He needs to be recognised for his true ability and not judged on reputation. At just 22 years-old he has time to become a truly world class striker. However at Real he will always be remembered for those misses in the Champions League and not the fifty odd goals he’s scored for the club.

Move

The striker has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks and I believe he will leave Real this summer. He has been in contract negotiations with Sporting director Jorge Valdano but Florentino Perez is believed to want the French-born star to leave. The club president usually gets what he wants.

Location

If Higuain does leave Bernabeu he won’t be short of potential destinations. He would suit the Premier League perfectly. He is clever enough and skilful enough for England’s top flight. With Chelsea and Manchester City on the lookout for new talent in the summer, I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up on English shores this summer.

Italian giants AC Milan have also been linked with the prolific marksman but its believed that he would prefer a move to the Premier League rather Serie A.

World Cup

Argentina manager Diego Maradona selected Higuain in his last national team squad. Having only played four times for his country he is not sure of a place in that World Cup squad. He has some big competition for a place in the Argentina squad.

The attacking positions are possibly Argentina’s strongest with the likes of Leo Messi, Sergio Aguero and Diego Milito all competing for a place in the team. However if he keeps playing as he is for his club then surely he has to be on the plane to South Africa. If he does wish to leave Madrid then the World Cup will be the best shop window he could hope for.

Contract

All this speculation about his future could be his agent trying to put him in a stronger position for negotiating a new contract. It wouldn’t be the first time and won’t be the last time that an agent has drubbed up rumours to get their client a better deal.

However as they say there is no smoke without fire and at the moment Higuain is hot property and could make himself a superstar if he moved away from the Spanish side. This summer could be moment that decides where his career goes and hopefully for the Argentinian the right decision is made.

Man Utd To Finalise £40m Deal For David Villa?

I can’t help but feel like we’ve been here before…

Manchester United are ready to steal a march on their rivals (probably every other major club in Europe) by submitting a huge £40 million bid for Valencia striker David Villa before the World Cup gets underway in June.

United have reportedly sent scouts to nearly every Valencia game this season and Chief Scout Martin Ferguson (brother of manager Sir Alex) has urged the club to make their move after watching Villa net a hat-trick in Los Che’s 4-4 draw with Werder Bremen in the Europa League last week.

It is widely believed that 28-year-old Villa will finally leave Valencia this summer, and the Spanish ace has gone on record expressing his love for United’s brand of attacking football on numerous occasions – which seemingly puts them firmly in the hot seat should Villa chose a move to The Premier League.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Villa plying his trade in the Prem as much as the next man – the guy is a ridiculously good striker- but £40 million? Surely that’s a bit rich for a player who isn’t exactly a spring chicken anymore?

Chelsea Set for Summer Clear Out to Cut £150m Wage Bill: Who Should Go?

Fifteen minutes after the final whistle blew on Chelsea’s latest unsuccessful tilt at the Champions League, Roman Abramovich, flanked by minders, took a long, lonely trudge across the pitch at Stamford Bridge.

His face, as ever, was inscrutable, but enough noises have come out of Stamford Bridge to tell us what he was thinking. Disappointment with Carlo Ancelotti? Yes, a little. Anger with his players for failing to deliver the performances in proportion with their pay-packets? Yes, plenty. Regret at losing sight of the big picture over the past year or two? Intriguingly, yes.

Abramovich, according to someone close to him, is facing up to having made mistakes. To an outsider, the obvious one was falling out with José Mourinho, but the Chelsea owner is more concerned by the way he has allowed his squad to grow older — and, very significantly, richer — while seeing Manchester United re-establish themselves as the dominant force in English football.

One example cited was that of the John Terry contract saga last summer, when he was wanted by Manchester City. Abramovich, apparently, was “spooked” by the possibility that his captain had been attracted to City’s riches, so Terry was offered — and duly signed — a new deal worth £151,000 a week. Six months later, Abramovich recognises that, while it would have been unwise to sell Terry, a five-year £40 million contract for a defender approaching his 29th birthday was not good business.

It goes on. Aware of the need to rejuvenate an ageing squad but committed to his ambition to make the club self-sufficient, Abramovich planned to raise funds for reinforcements this summer by selling a key player or two. But who is there to sell? The time to cash in on Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Frank Lampard, Deco, Didier Drogba or Nicolas Anelka has gone, with their market value — and in certain cases their performance level — now in decline.

Considering it was always Abramovich’s aim for Chelsea to break even by 2010, the lack of forward planning is staggering. Although the precise figure has not yet been released, Chelsea’s wage bill for the last financial year was more than £150 million. United’s was a not inconsiderable £123 million, but the champions’ turnover was £72 million higher than Chelsea’s. In terms of wages as a percentage of turnover, Chelsea spent at least 70 per cent. The equivalent figures at United and Arsenal are 44 per cent and 33 per cent respectively.

Abramovich accepts that to rejuvenate the squad he will have to spend, but he is loath to throw good money after bad. Joe Cole, out of contract this summer, seems destined to be the first victim of a purge of the older players, but he might not be the only one. (Times Online)

Liverpool are reported to be tracking Lille’s £20 million-rated playmaker Eden Hazard.

The 19-year-old Belgian shone over both legs of Liverpool’s recent Europa League clash with the French side, and it is now thought that Rafa Benitez has singled Hazard out as the man he wants to revive his somewhat stagnant midfield.

I think everyone could see that coming.
The only one who looked dangerous against liverpool.

Arsneal should get him tho.
