Shame really. Joyce's death as part of this storyline with Ted would have more impact if they'd actually done a decent job of the story as a whole.

We just seemed to get told he suffered from it briefly after they joined, that ridiculous spell with shooting CardboardJohnny and then the recent stuff with falling out with Patrick.

If they'd written the whole chess plot better and worked harder to make it a part of Bernadette's confidence issues and Ted's struggles the story would be much better.

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has criticised the decision to kill off Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, describing it as "short-sighted".

The Mitchell sisters were killed off on New Year's Day last year in a horrific swimming pool accident.

Speaking in this week's issue of OK! Magazine, Samantha said that she has enjoyed her time away from the BBC soap after playing Ronnie for nine years, but was unhappy that no room had been left for a potential comeback in the future.

"I'd have loved to go back at some point," she said. "The Mitchell family are such a huge part of that show's culture – Peggy had gone and then the two Mitchell sisters. It's a shame to rip out the roots of such a long-serving family.

"The last year and a half has been so exciting and a bit like a rebirth, but I hate the idea that I can't go back – unless I come back as some weird Australian twin sister!

"I understand they have to regenerate and constantly recast, but my complaint was when you have two characters who are embedded within the fabric of that community, by killing them completely you're removing them from any future producer. It's short-sighted."

Last October, Samantha said that she was "devastated" at the decision to axe Ronnie.

"I was devastated because I wasn't planning to leave," she explained at the time. "That was really hard, having to kill someone who I loved."
