I recognise the pretty boy.

How are Stevenage doing?

Dan_
27-03-2007, 07:25 PM
9th at the moment but with games in hand, started the season awfully and didnt win until september but ever since then we have been mainly winning and we are now into the final of the FA Trophy and still chasing a play-off place but in recent weeks we just seem a bit off our best and lost the last couple of games, midfield is missing a couple key players at the moment.Still 0-0 tonight though.

Do you think you'll go up next season?

Dan_

I've not given up hope on this season quite yet but we would proably be stronger next season.

1-0 up Paul Hakim with his first goal for the club :cheer2:

Bloody hell about 7 mins of injury time the ref added on but it's all over now.1-0 win at 3rd placed York, get in there :cheer2:.Upto 7th in the table now with 2 games in hand.

Aldershot 1-0 Weymouth

First win in 5 games, played alot better then we have done in previous matches goal game in the second half from Rhys Day. Nice way to send the manager off with a decent performance.

BigSister

Yay well done Dan and Jay ^_^
Oh i know about injury time Dan they put 5 mins on at accy on saturday and announcer said "The referee has indicitated 5 minutes of stoppage time and what is that for I have no idea"

Andorra 0-3 England

Poor performance first half only created 2 or 3 chances, second half alot better moved the ball alot quicker and created alot more chances, still not a decent performance but we got the 3 points and hopefully can move on and get some more points, the 2 games against Russia and the game against Croatia are so crucial for our quailfication.

Mike
28-03-2007, 09:47 PM
Im glad we won in the end but we cant continue playing the way we do, im sure everyone would agree that really we should be hitting teams like Andorra for 5 or 6.

Dan_
28-03-2007, 09:48 PM
I see Gerrard scores 2 without having Lampard getting in his way .Awful first half and I felt sorry for the fans having to endure that and no suprises they voiced their frustration.2nd half was better but still not great.

Next game I'd go with:

Robinson
G.Neville Ferdinand Terry A.Cole
Lennon Gerrard Hargreaves J.Cole
Defoe Nugent.

Great result for Northern Ireland against Sweden.

How can Macca justify dropping Lampard. First Beckham now Lampard. How can a top manager not get the best out of these players.

Dan_
29-03-2007, 02:19 PM
Lampards not had a good game in a while for England and he was injured anyway.

GiRTh
29-03-2007, 03:17 PM
I understand what you're saying, my question was somewhat rhetorical. The point is, I personally think that the best managers know - in order to consistently win - they'll need all their quality players. MacClaren, when he was appointed, immediately dropped one of the best footballers this country has produced in 20 years and is on the verge of dropping another. At the time when he dropped Beckham I thought his only saving grace was that England were in an easy group. Now, I'm not so sure.

I don't get all this garbage about wanting to go in a different direction. We're not making a sitcom here, we're trying to qualify for a major tournament. Lennon and Downing are not ready and MacClaren should not be experimenting in tournament qualifiers.

Dan_
29-03-2007, 07:02 PM
I never saw the point in totally dropping Beckham either to be honest, it's not like he was getting to an age where he was not going to be around for Euro's which I could have at least understood as it would be building a team for then but he's still only about 31 and as he's shown at Real Madrid this season he can still produce at the top level.

Downing always seems to look so nervy for England, like he's never willing to take the full back on, he's a hard working player but not really upto it at the moment.I reckon Lennon is good enough though,he does need to work on the consistency of his crosses though, being played on the left wing against Israel was not exactly the wisest move.

I agree with just about everything you say her. You're right, Lennon is good enough. He gets the penetration and needs to work on his crosses. Downing will be a good player too.

The thing that frustrates me about MacClaren is the he lackt the intelligence and imagination to utilise his best players. So we have the situtation where Steve Gerrard is playing better but the team is still no good enough.

Aldershot 2-0 St Albans

Totally outplayed them today i think in the whole match they said 5 shots 3 of which were off target our defence looked strong, goals came from Darren Barnard and John Grant, we are unbeaten in 3 :cheer2:

Dan_

Very poor performance from Stevenage today compounded by an incompetent ref and linesman.A 3-0 loss to a side like Crawley is bad at this stage of the season and I can see changes for tuesdays game at home to Kidderminster.

Aldershot 3-2 Exeter

Fantastic win for us, didn't get off to the best start going 1-0 down very early on but we fought back to 1-1 goal coming from Rhys Day, second half was pretty much end to end but managed to get 2 quick goals both coming from Jonny Dixon they got 1 back near the end to set up a tense finish but we hung on. Next up its Dagenham who are top of the leauge so hopefully we can grab something there, unbeaten in 4 :cheer2:

Roma 2-1 Man Utd

Pretty much even up untill the 33rd minute when Scholes got 2 yellow cards and was sent off which was deserved 2 clumsey tackles, Roma took the lead just before halftime but there was 2 balls on the pitch at the time. Second half was all Roma then a moment of genius from Ronaldo and Rooney got us back to 1-1 then Roma scored again, decent result for Utd considering they played an hour with 10 men.

Dan_
04-04-2007, 11:02 PM
Well the away goal could prove crucial, the sending off of Scholes was always going to restrict United what with Roma being such a class act in midfield, can see United still getting through.

Forgot to write this up last night.

Dagenham 2-1 Aldershot

Dagenham are now promoted, but we made it tough for them first 15 minutes they dominated and deservedly went in front, then from then till halftime it was all Aldershot we were unlucky not to be level or infront at halftime. Second half once again was mostly all Aldershot and they got a penalty which wasn't IMO stupid refereeing decision and they scored, Jonny Dixon pulled a goal back with 25 minutes to go, Dagenham were lucky to become champions yesterday we deserved something from the game.

Dan_
08-04-2007, 11:52 AM
Much better from us yesterday, just got the ball down and played like we know we can.Totally dominated the first half and finally got the breakthrough after Nurse turned the defender and poked it in but then Morecambe scored a goal against the run of play at the end of the first half.Morecambe came out the brighter side hitting the bar straight away but we went up the other end and Morison ended a good move to end his barren spell and soon after Hakim turned in Nurse's Spudd on to make it 3-1.Then came the baffling decision with Fuller heading onto the bar and the ball bounces down and away and then the linesman claim it went over the line despite being about 20 yards away and no Morecambe player even appealing, they then got an equaliser after good work down the wings. After that it was end to end stuff and it both sides had chances to win but nether could convert.

Spurs off to a terrible start against Sevilla, I'll be suprised if they can get through now.

Jay
12-04-2007, 09:13 PM
Spurs did well in the second just had to much to do, some poor defending early cost Spurs the game, shame really i actually thought before the game they would go threw easily.

Dan_
12-04-2007, 10:44 PM
I think Sevilla could well go onto win it now, would've made a good final. The ref was pretty poor.Tainio at right back seemed to be an accident waiting to happen, the pace and skill of Adriano was far too much for him to handle.

I was suprised at Zokora being taken off as he seemed to be driving them on but you cannot argue with Defoe coming on and scoring with his first touch.Berbatov was unsually wasteful in front of goal.

Oh and can David Pleat get players name's right please? I never knew Samantha Janus played for Spurs.

Mike
12-04-2007, 10:53 PM
I don't usually critisise Martin Jol but he should never have taken Zokora the guy was running through the middle at will and if anything out the two centre midfielders 'Janus' had the queiter game.

Jay
12-04-2007, 11:06 PM
That surprised me aswell, i thought they would of taking off Chimbonda or Taino left 3 at the back and just gone for it.

Dan_

Or Chimbomba as Pleat calls him :laugh2:.

Tainio shouldnt have played longer than half time.

Spurs were awful weren't they.:laugh2: remember I'm an Arsenal fan.

You're right about Zakora. He looked awesome at times, running right through the centre of their midfield, but jol took him off for some reason.

J'anus had a terrible game. I'm not a fan. I remember when he was at Forest - I'm from Nottingham - I thought he was over-rated back then.

What do you all think of Robbie Keane. Good, great or world class. I ask coz I have the same argument over and over again on another forum. A number of guys on there think he's world class, but I think he's not much above averages. He's hardly in the same class as van Nistelrooy or Eto'o

I agree Simon. He does it in fits and spurts. HE's not consistent enough. When he's good he's great but he doesn't do it enough. Plus, I've seen him miss some sitters.

Mike
13-04-2007, 12:02 PM
Not sure if im reading it right there but Robbie Keane doesn't show enough passion? along with Dawson hes probably their most passionate player, when he plays you never ever see him give up.

Dan_
13-04-2007, 12:10 PM
Keane does seem quite inconsistent, I've seen him play live quite times and his movement on and off the ball is very good but he's not really got that extra yard of pace that would allow him to just go past players and get more goals.

Jay
13-04-2007, 12:57 PM
I think Robbie Keane is one of Spurs best players, but i think Defoe is better then him last night Defoe came on and within seconds scored, Keanes movement of the ball is good but i don't think he should be starting ahead of Defoe to be honest.

It's a tough one who to pick out of Defoe and Keane, both have the same amount of goals but both bring different qualities, I guess Jole prefers using Jermaine as impact sub as he has the pace to cause tiring defences a whole load of problems.

Much closer semi final between Blackburn and Chelsea than the Man U-Watford game.Blackburn put up a good fight but clearly tired towards the end and that's what undone them in the end.

Chelsea vs Man United in the final then, should be a great first FA Cup final at the new wembley.

Mike

Although it was quite a nerve racking game it actually made for a better game, fair play to Blackburn because they could have easily won the game second half, in the end though i think the fitness and quality beat them.

Not been around for a while, so..........

I shall be moving in June with my 'practice' (although the London 'branch' will still be open but run by others 07921 53...... ) anyway.........i'm moving to sunny Devon..........Exeter, to be precise, so if they are still in the Conference next season, i'll be sure to get a season ticket with my wife, who is 'going home' as it were, returning to her roots, so hopefully some Conference banter!

The Championship promotion race looks tight.....none of the 3 sides would survive with current squads in the Premiership, although Sunderland would survive with Sir Alex using them as a 'B' side for his lesser players. I think Derby would struggle the most, they look a poor side, who have been lucky with lots of one goal wins.

The relegation battle in the Prem looks exciting. I hope West Ham and Sheff Utd go, but i'm not overly fussed. The title looks like going to the wire. I think Chelsea may draw today, which would cancel out Utd's slip up yesterday.

On to my native Dutchies..........and what a title race! 3 can win it.

PSV 71
AZ 69
Ajax 69

AZ and Ajax have home bankers today (AZ v us! Ajax v Sparta), whilst PSV have a tough looking trip to Utrecht.

AZ and Ajax have very winnable away games next week on the final, PSV have a banker home win. So basically if PSV win today, they should be champions. If they don't, AZ and Ajax are in with a huge chance!

Getting a bit nervy for Exeter now eh ITH? Was a good game between us and them yesterday, proably the most entertaining 0-0 I've seen involving Stevenage, not that we get many 0-0's lol.Was end to end stuff with both sides just keeping the ball on the ground and trying to play the right way.Exeter really do work hard and I can see how they've gotten to 5th place but they lack a really potent striker, it's odd how Phillips and Stansfield have failed to get goals as in the past they've both done well in the past.

It's a shame we did not start with Craig Dobson as he took the game to Exeter when he came on and almost got the winner but not this time and no play-offs for us this year but it was a new team this season and we took a while to gel.We can push on next season with a couple of signings and maybe challenge for the title. At least there's the trophy final at wembley to look forward to, got my ticket today :thumbs2:.

Yes Mrs ITH is getting nervy, but either way, we'll be going next season when we move down in the summer.

She'd prefer League Two naturally but......

I'm not 100% sure what Exeter have got, but Mrs ITH keeps mentioning Elam, Billy Jones et al............I believe Stevenage have Exeter old boy Santos Gaia............i'm sure I will be up to speed next season when watching them.

Enjoy the trophy final  Must start as favourites?

Onto Holland and the table with 1 round of matches to go is as follows

1 AZ Alkmaar 72pts (GD +53)
2 Ajax 72pts (GD +48)
3 PSV 72pts (GD +46)

Cracking last day in prospect and AZ could be the first side since 1981, outside the big three (PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord) to win the title............when they won it themselves!

Billy Jones is a very good left back, top scorer and all lol.Aye, we do have Santos Gaia, was a bit shaky at the start of the season but overall he's been solid and he'd proably head a brick if you lobbed it up in the air.

It should be a great day out, sold out the 15,000 tickets we were allocated today, asked for another 5,000 and all, funny how people seem to turn out for a final.I think we are slight favourites given where we are in the table and Kiddie's keeper got himself sent off on saturday so he's proably out of the final and all.

How have Heerenveen been doing lately? I've lost track abit of late with all the other goings on in the footie world.

Well, next season i've been told we are going to all Exeter's home games. I don't have a say! :joker:

I remember seeing Santos Gaia when Exeter have been on TV the rare times they have been. I don't recall him being very tall for a CB? Or does TV just make him look small? :joker:

Gotta feel sorry for most players who miss out on finals. I mean, if it was Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Smith or Kieron Dyer or someone like that, you'd be quite happy :joker:

Best of luck for the final........is it on SKY?

Heerenveen are on the edge of the Champions League / UEFA Cup playoffs and Intertoto Cup :conf2:

2nd-5th is CL/UEFA Playoffs, where you are guaranteed UEFA, but have 1 chance of CL. We are 6th currently and can finish 5th-8th. 7th and 8th get nothing!

Final day is not just exciting for the top 3! We host 5th placed Feyenoord - winners go into CL/UEFA playoffs and the losers will likely miss out on any Euro action next season! A draw and both could miss out with Roda and Groningen having very winnable home games and Feyenoord having a minus goal difference to boot!

I'd fancy us to beat Feyenoord with their defence and Afonso Alves up front for us! 30 games 30 goals! Will be surprised if he's with us next season

Would be nice to see us in CL playoffs, knowing if we somehow pulled off a shock we'd at least have a CL qualification match, plus if we didn't, guaranteed UEFA Cup.

The crazy thing about the playoffs, is 7th-9th get nothing, but 10th-13th playoff if the Cup Winners are already in Europe, with the prize being a place in the intertoto :conf2:

Lol, you should enjoy Exeter's games though, the manager get's the playing some entertaining football.

Santos is about 6ft lol.The final is on sky, 2.15pm kick off may 12th.

Quite an odd system with europe in dutch league then, at least it gives you an exciting end to the season and you have done pretty well this season.Anyone been linked with Alves then? That sort of strike rate in any european league is great so he must be in with a chance of a big move but goof luck to you on holding onto him and for the remaining games.

Well, I watched some Conference footie on TV in last few weeks. I hope Exeter play better football than Oxford and Halifax!

6ft? That is small to me :joker:

Will look out for the final :dance2:

Very exciting end, 3 sides can win title, 4 can make playoffs, 3 relegation playoffs.......

Afonso been linked to Man City.........look what happened to Samaras :joker: although to be fair Afonso is a goalscorer as opposed to a target man/2nd striker

Halifax and Oxford are normally quite good passing sides but Halifax this season have been pretty awful, cannot believe they can get relegated at the weekend after they came so close to going up last season.

We have got a striker/defender called Luke Oliver who's 6ft7,he's the conf Peter Crouch
:laugh3:.

What has happened with Samaras? He started off pretty well but he's been awful most other times I've seen him this season, not sure he will stay at City much longer.

Were awful when saw them on TV, although Odubade's 2nd goal when Tony Robert's miskicked was good. Odubade was like Pele 2nd half and like Titus Bramble the 1st.

6'7 is still small to me. I could pat him on his head :joker:

I've a feeling he may be used with cash to get Afonso Alves. Samaras will do well back in Holland, but if they Man City gave say 3m or something with Samaras, they paid alot for Samaras initially anyway, so it would be Man City feeding us cash again :joker:

A big reason I don't want Sunderland in Premier League again. That and Roy Keane will just hire a load of Man Utd rejects.

It's funny how he ranted how the players weren't good enough when he was at Man U, now he butt kissed to get them to play for his Championship side.

Will have to spend alot in the summer as the current side are no better than the likes of Watford.

Hopefully Birmingham and Derby will come up, but Derby I think will lose today as they've been dodgy for a while.

Exciting afternoon in the Dutch League

All 3 teams on 72 (AZ, Ajax, PSV) with goal difference favouring that order!

Heerenveen home to Feyenoord - winner guaranteed a UEFA Spot, possibly CL with the odd playoff system

Willem II v Ajax
Excelsior v AZ
PSV v Utrecht

Let's hope AZ don't choke! Will be 1st side in 26 years to win title outside of PSV/Ajax/Feyenoord, when in 1981 AZ won it themselves.

1hr 25 mins til kick off.

Just make sure Heerneveen beat Feyenoord!

Yeah Chelsea showed an interest........don't think he is that good and would do a Kezman, but certainly a player who would do well for a side outside the top 4.

Saying that, he wouldn't be any worse than Shevchenko and he knows where the goal is.

Shevchenko's still got it. Don't right him off yet. He's just started playing well too far into the season. If he'd scored ten more goals than he's done then Chelsea would probably be top of the league. Anyway i hope they stuff Liverpool tomorrow.

Arsenal Won on Sunday. They looked good too. Hleb is starting to come on and we're not relying on Henry too much. Watch out for us next season.

Mike
30-04-2007, 05:47 PM
I was suprised by the scoreline in the end to be honest, first half you had so many chances and probably should have scored a few goals then second half when you didn't play quite as well you go and get two goals, if you can get all your players fit i.e Henry, Van Persie, Rosicky and Ljunberg then next season could be a very good one for Arsenal.

GiRTh
30-04-2007, 05:54 PM
I thin we're going to be alright next season. We've got to plan for life without Henry.

What do you think to Big Sam at Bolton. I was stunned. I hope Freddie Sheperd is keeping a close eye on the situation

Mike
30-04-2007, 06:03 PM
Bit dissapointed in him to be honest, i like him as a person and also think he is a great manager but in my opinion he should have waited until the season had finished, it was expected that he would leave at some point but the least he could have done is let the Bolton fans give him a send off.

Dan_
30-04-2007, 06:40 PM
I don't understand why he's left really, he's been able to get in some good players like Anelka and they were on course to finish 5th in the table, there's no guarentee that another club like Newcastle or Manchester City are going to get rid of their current manager's and then bring him in.

Good luck to Sammy Lee now, he's always been a coach but now it's his big chance to step up and show what he can do as a manager.

Good to see Michael Owen starting for Newcastle again tonight, just hope he can avoid any injuries now.

Most of his goals seem to have been when Oxford are on the tele, see he got in his customary dive and so did that twerp Duffy.

I could'nt help but laugh at the Oxford keeper being so confident taking the penalty then hitting the post.

FA Cup final was pretty dull, both sides played formations that just cancelled each other out and did not really go for it.But a moment of class with the 1-2 between Lampard and Dorgba and a typical finish from Didier sealed it, well done to Chelsea.

I was suprised to see Joe Cole go off at half time, thought that he was one of the most threatening players in the first half.Rooney was just about Man United's best player.

Steve Sidwell's gone to Chelsea on a free transfer, different type of signing for them and it will be interesting to see how he gets on there.

Three more players left Stevenage today, sub keeper Danny Potter went to Cambridge United and two youngsters, Sam Hatton and Chris Sullivan left for AFC Wimbledon and Braintree respectively.

Oh well, at least I can come on here and talk Conference footie!

Heerenveen are in UEFA, we lost in CL playoffs.

Rubbish CL final, although hopefully Liverpool will now build and challenge Man Utd and Chelsea next season. Voronin is not the answer though. If they can get Nani or Ribery plus 2 top strikers, maybe they won't bore us as much. Get rid of Bellamy, Kewell, Gonzalez (before injured was a big flop). They already have Lucas who is very good and Mascherano who was an excellent buy.

Hopefully van Persie and Henry will be fit for Arsenal and they sign one or two.......combined with there kids, they could become quite good.

Tottenham will be interesting if they realise quality over quantity is better and offload some of there rubbish (Ghaly, Malbranque, Lee Young Pyo et al)

Where will Tevez end up? More importantly, where will Afonso Alves end up - Barcelona have been sniffing :joker: No really, they and Chelsea have

£20m and Ronaldinho? £30m and Drogba?

Or just £6m cash plus either Ezquerro or Geremi

Interesting summer in store :pat:

Lol, shall be good to have another conference fan on here.Exeter were a tad unlucky I thought, Morecambe just did you on the counter attack.I see Martin Rice threw a bit of a paddy at being dropped and has walked out, silly lad.

The signing of Voronin really bemused me, he's probably only going to be 4th choice but he's a waste of the wages that he's on, should have just gone for someone like Billy Sharp from Scunthorpe.I should imagine Liverpool will just end up getting one top quality striker, I'm thinking it will end up being Tevez with the link to Mascherano.A left winger is needed and I have heard that they are close to signing Daniel Alves and Gabriel Millito, could be the end of Finnan and Hyypia if true. They should keep Carson as back up to Reina now that Dudek is off.

It's about time that Arsenal realised their potential, these kids have to come good some time and next season may well be it.I think they need to splash the cash on another winger, Hleb just does not cut it for me.

Spurs look to have finally got a good left back in Gareth Bale, still need a left winger though, far too often they play people like Malbranque and Tainio, really going to trouble right back's with them playing.Kaboul from Auxerre looks another good signing.

I see Alves is in the Brazil squad for the friendly against England on friday, must to the shock of the Brazillian media who had no idea who he even was! One asked was he a centre back and then they got all uppity about Dunga not picking more home based players but he quite rightly said to them that due to the financial contstraints in the domestic game all the good players are being snapped up by European teams.

We often have the habit of falling behind in the first half but make these classic comebacks, never write us off with the attacking threats of Dobson,Morison and Cole, he's going to be a star in the conference next season now that he's fully fit.

We've got rid of about 13/14 players though, talk about a summer clear out! 3 signed with more on the way, an experienced league 2 striker is in talks with the manager.

I don't know too much about Exeter, that's the wife's speciality, it will be mine next season... maybe

Looks like Sharp will be off to Wolves. Tevez would be a good buy, but i'm guessing Rafa will buy someone Spanish. Most of his Spanish buys just haven't worked and he has to realise he needs more than just average Spanish.played in Spain cack like Joesmi, Arbeloa, Fabio Aurelio and Gonzalez.

Hleb is average, Rosicky will get better and they need a couple of decent buys...1 up front and a winger.

Problem with Spurs is they buy 2 cack for every 1 good. For every Berbatov, there is a Taino and a Ghaly.

Afonso came on and nearly scored....must have upped his price by £2m that apprearance........surely? :dance2:

Sharp's former striker partner is at Wolves and all so he'll fit in well, seems they are signing some good lower league players.Aurelio started to play well then got injured, Josemi and Gonzalez were utter cack though.I think he'd like David Villa in an ideal world and he's after David Silva and all.

I wonder if Reyes will go back to Arsenal now that the deal for Baptista is not going to be made permanent? He was always a fairly good player for them I thought.

I don't understand Jol's obsession with buying central midfielders though and then playing them on the wings, Taino as a left winger is laughable.Ghaly's just a silly little sod.

Afonso played pretty well I thought, probably could have caused alot more problems had he been given longer.Be nice for you to hold onto him but I guess he will move on.

Did he move in the end? I thought I heard he was off somewhere else (Sharp)

Problem with Rafa, he buys some utter cack. If he was half as good in the transfer market and Premiership as he is in CL, Liverpool would be a force.

I notice the Liverpool fan I used to debate with is back on the boards...I wonder if I should remind them of the "Man Utd are on a downward slope" remark :joker: and "Vidic is crap" :joker:

Reyes will stay in Spain and now it looks like Henry has gone for £16m........double that and they can have Afonso Alves :joker:

There's been a few bids for Sharp that have been turned down, last one was 2 million from Norwich.

I see Forlan is a target for Liverpool, what a joke he would be again.Fernando Torres is the main target so I've heard.

Not the best of predictions eh?

Henry has indeed gone, looks like Arsenal are really going through a transitional period.Wenger will be gone soon I reckon.

With all the centre backs at Spurs now they may well push Rocha onto the left wing lol.

What about Sven going to Man City? that's going to be interesting!

Well done to Holland on beating the racist serbs

Oh and the striker Stevenage were after was Tim Sills from Hereford but he wanted too higher wages.Full pre-season training starts on monday, several trialists including a young premiership keeper.

Maybe it was the Norwich link I heard about.....but now they are in 'The Championship' they'd be best off holding onto him if he's that good.

Forlan to Liverpool.....good job Dudek has gone then :joker: Torres would be a good buy, but he'd only go there for all the Paella with Rafa and the boys. As a football reason, he'd be better off at Chelsea or Man Utd

Nope, Man Utd are finished :joker: They surpassed my expectations, but the other person thought they'd finish outside the top 4 whilst Liverpool would be challenging :joker: Maybe now both clubs are owned my Americans they may stand a chance, but Liverpool's owners are being a bit tight fisted - Voronin :joker:

Will be a shame if Wenger goes...if he does he'll claim 'he didn't see it coming' so cannot comment :joker:

Spurs collect players like they are going out of fashion, but they still can't field a decent 5-a-side team :joker:

Sven to Man City......who will he bring in.....reports say Owen. Shame Hargreaves is at Man Utd as he was Sven's lovechild. Maybe he'll attempt to get him on loan, offering Paul Dickov in exchange :thumbs2:

Wahey! Netherlands U-21 Champions again! :cheer2: Easy Easy Easy :cheer2: England ran us close, but not close enough cos they are worse at penalties :cheer2: :hello:

They would be showing a complete lack of ambition if they let Sharp go, if they get relegated then he can go.

You always need one joke player in the squad.Dudek will be hard to replace in the clown stakes.

I never really thought of United going on a downward slope, especially not outside the top 4 lol, I didn't think they would win the title though.Voronin is the strangest signing of the summer, utter waste of wages.

Just like Wenger didn't see David Dein and Henry going :joker:.

I see Darren Bent is likely to be off to Spurs, 4 good strikers then, how they going to keep all of them happy? Defoe to play on left wing?.

Doubt Owen would go there to be honest, might get Chris Powell if they are lucky.Dickov will end up playing at right back and Michah Richards up front.

That was the longest penalty shootout I've ever seen lol.Carson should have done a Waterman and come off his line, might have ended things sooner.

Sills was indeed at Aldershot, probably played in the region of 40 league games and scored about 5 goals, thank christ we didn't sign him lol.We have Spurs on 7th July, getting tickets on monday, I'm sure our right back can cope with Tainio :hello:.

Saying that, if it was £2m, Scunny could spend that on about 8 players :joker:

Dudek looks like joining Bolton. They could struggle this season. Sammy Lee is not the man to take them forward.

Well, this person who thought United were on a downward slope (after telling me I knew nothing about football) has been proven wrong. They also said Vidic was crap :joker: United are the number 1 team in England. Liverpool are the number 3 side and Torres would be a good signing for them. About time, as Voronin is an underwhelming signing. You need a 4 horse race in England, as 2 horse races are boring.

Wenger has replaced Henry with Eduardo Da Silva. Unproven at a high level, yet 24m Euros :-/ Reportedly

Bent has signed.......has Mido Dido left yet? He'll be at Man City or somewhere next season :joker: Defoe left wing? I was thinking Bent was signed for that role with Keane on the right :joker: Must be time for Tottenham to sign a midfielder and centre back :joker:

Sven at Man City......they scored so few goals last season....now Sven is there, even fewer :joker:

Waterman used to be our keeper. He's shocking to be honest and was lucky to get away with it, although happy he did.

Forza Oranje!

Sills has signed for Torquay :dance2: Exeter's rivals now :dance2:

About time, as Voronin is an underwhelming signing. You need a 4 horse race in England, as 2 horse races are boring.

Wenger has replaced Henry with Eduardo the Silva.

Spurs on Saturday? I hear Stalteri is playing left wing :pat:

Sharp's gone back to Sheffield United, they let him leave for £100,000 and buy him back for £2M .

Where is Jussi off to if they are getting Dodgy Dudek? I reckon Bolton will struggle this season.

Torres looks pretty much certain to joining now with Luis Garcia going to other way.I wonder how much more money Rafa has to spend as just Torres will not be enough to challenge for the title but it's a step forward.

Eduardo is a bit pricey if that's true, good player though.

Mido's still around, he'll probably be on the left wing against us on saturday, the tosser.Defoe's likely to be off now I'd imagine, maybe a return to West Ham lol.I read that Spurs were after another central midfielder, Oruma from Troyes or something like that.

0-0 draws for half the season with Sven :spin:.

Who's Waterman playing for these days?

I see Exeter has signed Basham from Oxford, not an overly convincing signing, he's always injured.Fixtures came out today, Exeter away to Altrincham first game of the season, we have Crawley away.

I'd imagine we will have a few trialists for the Spurs game, some keeper just released by Arsenal is meant to be one of them.

1.9m loss, very good :joker:

Dudek probably a reserve or something. Bolton are gonna struggle more than they have done. New signings leave a lot to be desired

Well Torres has signed. £27m is a bit of a gamble, but we'll see if pays off. They won't have much to spend now and they need some players still.

Defoe will never go back to Hammers :joker: Tottenham have signed another CB today in Kaboul :joker: Left Wing debut on Saturday  Oruma is 30+ and a former Nigerian international - complete waste if they buy him.

Waterman is now at AZ. They must have seen something in him. They have also signed a young Argie keeper, Romero, for next season.

We signed Roy Beerens from PSV today. He was part of the winning U-21 side, albeit a used sub most games. Promising, but we have yet to sign anyone exciting.

Is Basham always injured? Great! Away to Altrincham and Boxing Day/New Years Day, derbies v Torquay!

Is the Arsenal keeper, Mannone?

At least they can say it was a different manager who got rid of Sharp lol.Good old Warnock!

I thought Dudek wanted to be a first choice keeper, seeing as that's why he left Liverpool in the first place.I see that Bolton are in for Xabi Alonso's younger and less talented brother-Mikel, he'd be an improvement on Idan Tal.

I've heard that he was £20m in the end, still a gamble but at least he's a top young player.Benitez still wants wingers.Benayoun's likely to be signing as part of a swap deal involving Craig Bellamy.

Pompey and Villa seem most interested in Defoe, I cannot see how he can stay as he'll only be 4th choice. How many centre backs is that for Spurs now? Oruma will probably replace Ghaly or Murphy in being 10th choice central midfielder for them, get the odd game at left wing too.

AZ always seem to have about 8 strikers whenever I play as them on pro-evo.Beerens is a pretty decent signing for you, is he the first summer signing? Any news on Afonso Alves?

Basham played about 10 games last season and didn't play from January onwards .We have Rushden over xmas.

I don't know who the keeper is.Mannone would be pretty decent but he'd only be back up.Two of our players miss the game as they are best men at weddings! More trialists then :bored:

I really enjoyed the game, first half was probably the best I've ever seen during a pre-season friendly, some very encouraging displays against a strong Spurs team.

First half lineups-
Spurs:
Cerny
Ifill,Gardner,Rocha,Daniels
Malbranque,Murphy,Taarbat,O'Hara
Bent,Keane

Boro:
Julian
Fuller,Henry,Gaia,Nutter
Lawson,Lewis,Miller,Cole
Hakim,Allen.

2nd half-Boro
Kettridge
Batt,Oliver,Arber,Bradshaw
Eames,Molelsey,McMahon,Cruise(?)
Dobson,Sealey

Both sides just set about playing the ball on the floor and Stevenage kept the ball so well in the opening periods and some lovely passing moves started by Miller almost led to chances for Hakim and Allen but they were just blocked off in time.Spurs came into more as the half went on and Julian was forced into some smart saves.Spurs got a rather soft penalty when Bent was barged over by Fuller and Keane easily dispatched the penalty. At the end of the first half we equalised through trialist Oliver Allen, a good team goal with Mitchell Cole making Ifill look silly before putting in a low cross which Allen controlled first time and with his back to goal he turned and shot straight into the bottom corner, top drawer effort and that was pretty much it for the first half.

Boro swapped the whole team around 2nd half but Spurs kept the same team so it was always going to be a tough task for a mainly reserve Boro side.Bent got on the end of a good pass not long after the start of the 2nd half and just sent it over young keeper Kettridge.Boro continued to play their passing game but with a lack of firepower upfront it was starting to get more difficult to threaten the Spurs goal but a curling free kick from Eames drew a good save out of Cerny.Spurs got a 3rd when sub Barcham found Taarbat and his shot from distance slipped through the keepers grasp.Boro were denied a penalty when youth teamer, Tyrone Sealey was found by McMahon and he turnt Garnder inside out before getting tripped inside the box but only a free kick was given. Both sides faded as it drew to a close and that was about it for an entertaining first pre-season game.

Very impressed with Borough in the first half and the two trialists looked very good players.

Never rated Warnock, didn't he take 7 years to get Sheff U up anyway?

Dudek will never be 1st choice, he's too dodgy :joker: Sammy Lee, is doing a Sammy Allardyce, buying dodgy players

£20m is still alot, could be a bargain, or could be a flop! Benayoun won't fix the winger problem, unless they do a Spurs!

Defoe won't want to be 4th choice and Jol doesn't seem to rate him. He'll be a good buy for Man U or Liverpool.

Danny Murphy, oh dear, he'll surely end up at Wigan! In the centre not the left!

Beerens is the 3rd signing. Loohuis, a young midfielder from Veendam and some Danish guy Bak Nielsen or someone. Nothing major yet, even buy Heerenveen standards! Afonso Alves is with Brazil in Copa America, so nothing happening yet.

Oh well, hopefully Basham comes good....or maybe Defoe needs some games, so a season long loan :dance2:

:joker: at weddings. Good old lower league football

Sounds like a decent game against Spurs, with all those CB's and CM's :joker:

It was something like 7 years, yes. They always seemed to lose in the play-offs lol.

Sammy Lee wants to play passing football with mainly average players, that's going to end up going wrong.

I reckon Torres will be a success, with his pace and skill I cannot see him being anything else.Benayoun will probably end up being a replacement for Garcia.Ricardo Quaresma is the main target, he'd be a pretty good signing.

Defoe weren't even at the game on Saturday, unlike Chimbonda,Kaboul, Bale and a couple of others who were sat the row behind me.Murphy was terrible against us,our first half central midfielders tackled him every time he got the ball.Weymouth would be more his level than Wigan on that showing.

Has Afonso played much for Brazil in the Copa America?

It really was a decent game in the first half.I think Spurs thought they were in for an easy afternoon but we were the better side in the first half and Jol was getting pissed off and so were their fans, especially when we equalised :cheer2:.Taarabt was on the whole awful :joker:

I'll start with a bad joke.

Sol Campbell wants to return to Spurs after hearing there strikeforce is Bent and Keane. :joker::rolleyes::dance2:

Never really liked Sheff Utd, but they were conned by The Premier League

Bolton.....passing.....:joker:

Torres will be interesting. He has to better than Bellamy :joker: Benayoun is not that good. Quaresma would be a good buy. A Barca reject, but good enough for Liverpool.

Kaboul and Bale wanting to make a good impression. Chimbonda probably moaning  Murphy to Weymouth? :yuk:

Afonso has had 1 (maybe 2) sub appearances for Brazil in Copa America. Still, every appearance adds a few £ onto his fee

Jol is funny when he gets mad. It might be his massive head and dodgy haircut, but I find him funny :joker:

I was at bit surprised that our manager was getting so worked up during a pre-season friendly, ah well at least it shows he is passionate.

Burnley and Man City are some decent games, are you mainly having away friendlies?

We have Luton,Peterboro and Ipswich at home and away we have Boreham Wood, Ware,Kettering,Harlow,Tadley Calleva, Thurrock and Hampton and Richmond Boro.

Funny transfer of the day - Michael Chopra to Sunderland for £5m :joker:

Sheff Utd should give up on reinstatement, but they deserve more compensation. They've been done!

Never liked Bellamy, horrible little bloke. Benayoun £4m......compare that to Chopra :conf2: Babel  Hope he does well, cos that will mean he will get selected for Oranje!

Chimbonda is happy to have another Frenchman on board I expect :thumbs2:

Must admit I was surprised at Chopra going there, what with being ex Newcastle. He was top scorer in the championship but £5m is overpriced.

They should have probably got half of the fee that West Ham were fined but their case keeps getting stronger as the Premier League are now saying that they need evidence of West Ham getting money from the Tevez transfer to Manchester United but they clearly don't own him lol.

Bellamy's had about 8 clubs in 9 years, says it all really.
Benayoun is quite a steal at that price, at least he's proven in the prem.Do you think Babel is good enough for Liverpool? He'll end up playing left wing but I heard he prefers being a striker.

Deary me, a striker missing a penalty, sounds well suited to England then! Didn't Sibon used to play for Sheffield Wednesday?

It was an awful penalty decision but he did get a bit worked up lol.To be fair to Jol, he has done better at Spurs than most managers in recent times, I just cannot take him seriously in interviews.

We beat Borehamwood 4-0 .Morison scored with a header from a Mitchell Cole cross, Ollie Allen scored with a left footed shot from 15 yards, Jerome Anderson outpaced the defence before scoring with a neat finish to make it 3-0 and another trialist called Junior Dobson scored with a left footed volley after great work by Anderson who chipped the ball over the defence.

1st half team:

Julian
Fuller, Arber, Henry & Nutter
Molesley, McMahon & Lewis
Allen,Morison and Cole

Second half:

Gore
Bradshaw, Gaia, Oliver & ?
Lawson, Martin, Miller & Junior Dobson
Anderson & Hakim

Some of last week's trialists have already gone lol.I could tell Stimmo was not happy with some of them at the end of last weeks game.Nice to see a possible return for Shane Gore, he's a nice bloke and came and supported us in trophy final despite being released by our old manager. He's a capable enough keeper and wouldn't be on too much money.

Stevenage Borough have today signed Tess Bramble from Stockport County. The 26 year old, 6' 2" striker, brother of Wigan's Titus Bramble, has made 200 appearances for Stockport and Southend, scoring 55 goals. He has been signed to add strength and experience to the squad and should make his debut against Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening.

Manager Mark Stimson said ''Tess is 2 weeks behind everyone else in fitness and will need to work hard to get to the same level as the other lads, but he's a strong player who could well cause teams a lot of problems when he's fully fit"

Not too sure about this one to be honest, thought the two lads we have on trial are better options than this big lump.

Firstly, I've changed my name, as now I live in Devon, i live nowhere near the hood :joker: Just alot of funny talkers :cheer2:

£5m Chopra is about £6m overpriced :joker:

Well, this Tevez thing will not lie down. Kia whatshisname is now wanted back in Brazil over money laundering.

Bellamy is average and brings more problems than solutions. Benayoun is decent, but he's not top 4 level. Babel will do okay, he may take a season to settle. I don't think he'll set the league alight though

Afonso may feature in the final tonight, a sub at best. Sibon did indeed once play for Sheff Weds.

In the U-20's WC, Bradley of Heerenveen scored against Uruguay the other day. USA now out to Austria though.

Jol is a very odd bloke. They've just signed another midfielder, who has played for youth levels at CB, Kevin Prince-Boateng. Just to add to the collection :joker:

Ooh ah combine harvester lol.

I reckon Chopra will do okay, he never really got much of a chance at Newcastle but did get a few goals.

No surprise that Kia is in trouble, afterall the Mascherano and Tevez deals are dodgy lol.

I suppose Babel needs time to develop but he's got the ability to adjust to the premier league, no problem with the pace of the game.Liverpool are still meant to be after Mancini from Roma, might allow one of the wingers to go to Spurs then lol.

Brazil seem to have stuck with Robinho and Vagner Love upfront, doubt they will win tonight.Sibon was always poor in England but has done well in the eredivisie.

The only thing I've heard about the u20's world cup was that a Rushden and Diamonds player started for Canada in their group games and some Portugal player went mad and smashed into someone, just as the ref was about to show him the red card, a team mate of his swiped it off the ref and ended up getting sent off himself, he then started crying!

Can this Boateng fella play on the left?

We beat a fairly decent Ipswich side 3-0 tonight.Goals from Nutter(pen),Paul Hakim and yet another goal from Ollie Allen, scored in every friendly so far! Sign him up Stimmo.

1st half team:

Julian
Fuller, Oliver, Arber (injured, replaced by Gaia), Nutter
Miller, Lewis, Martin, Cole
Morison, Anderson

Second half:

Gore
Bradshaw, Gaia, Henry,Luke Webster

Roberts was one of the few first teamers who didn't play.

Dan_

I think he's got a slight injury at the moment.Ipswich keeper had an argument with one his team mates after we scored the 3rd goal :cheer2:.

There do seem to be some decent trialists about at the moment, not many teams seem to be signing loads of players but just seeing how they do in trials. We've got a lad called Junior Dodson who's meant to be class, people are comparing his style to John Arne-Riise.

Oliver Allen signed a 2 year contract with Stevenage Borough yesterday afternoon, with the deal being concluded hours prior to the game against Ipswich. The 20 year old striker appeared for Barnet at the end of last season, scoring 4 times in 7 appearances, having joined them from Birmingham City where he'd spent the previous 2 years.

Manager Mark Stimson said "Olly has a lot to offer. He's bright and has an eye for goal. He's conducted himself like a model pro in the weeks he's been with us and has a fierce determination to make a career for himself in the game. The competition for places is hotting up now"

Dan_

He's still good enough for the premier league in my view.He should do very well for Cardiff.

4-1 win for Stevenage today against Kettering.2 more goals for Ollie Allen with John Martin and Adam Miller also getting on the score-sheet.

Sunderland's signings have all been overpriced :joker: Still, it's not Keane's money

Gald to see Southend were true to form against Layton Orient and lost as normal. What is it with that team they beat us every time. It not like they are better than us it's just some kind of mental block we have when we play them.

Well, they don't look like getting Mido, he looks very likely to be at Boro - fee agreed as are personal terms and is having a medical right now.

Sunderland could do well on the fact of coming up and doing a Wigan or Reading. McShane and Nosworthy played well on Saturday, but played above their level.

Still 2 weeks until end of transfer window, so plenty of time for clubs to buy.

Top of the league and 1st home game tonight v Crawley :dance2:

Mido should do alright alongside Aliadere(sp?) but could this mean that Yakubu is on his way out?

Sunderland seem the best equipped of the new sides and will probably finish mid-table.Birmingham were quite good going forward but poor at the back.

I thought Liverpool outplayed Villa for much of the game.Petrov did get the ball but he was all over Gerrard in the process lol.

Crawley will be a difficult game, their defenders just cling onto strikers, not that the ref notices.Madjo and Pittman are quite lively upfront.
