I hope they do cut them, I hate the Greyjoys

Smithy
06-06-2014, 07:19 PM
If they cut it out completely that'd surely mean

That anything euron (? was it him that went after dany?) does isn't that important and he'll die before he does anything to get a dragon, cause something like that would be a massive plot shift?

:conf2:

Niamh.

yeah but does anyone really think that he was a proper contender anyway?

Euron is the King and sent Victarion after Dany to bring her back and marry her to Euron, but Victarion plans on just marrying herself, I think. And has a dragon horn. From what we've seen of them so far I don't think merging them would be so bad, but cutting them altogether would change so much.

It was a bit of a surprise to have an episode like this one following on from last weeks episode.

Amazing battle!

Ygritte

Why?????? I found her character interesting I enjoyed when we catched up with her every now and then. It was quite good how it was that little Ollie kid though that shot the arrow.

Sad loss of Grenn and Pyp. It was no shock that Grenn died with that beast running towards the group (how the hell they managed to kill it I dont know), but Pyp's scenes with Sam were especially well executed.

ROOTING FOR JON SNOW. And Im pleased how Sam is somehow still alive and so is Gilly and her boy.

It was pretty good as far as battles go but still don't like that it took up all the episode especially after the dramatic ending in KL last week, now we've gotta wait another week to see the fallout from then. Not that bothered about most of the characters on the wall as well, and they dedicate a whole episode to that battle when it doesn't seem to be that important in the grand scheme of things really, just Mance giving them an early test. The battle all seemed to end pretty quickly as well, one minute Mance's army were all over them, the next they'd pretty much all died and were retreating

Novo
09-06-2014, 09:31 PM
The whole episode was perfect and exactly the way i visioned it in the book really especially the whole Giants and Mammoths bit and the Archers on the wall and the scene with the Giant ( looks like the whole meg thing being the last giant alive is finished then ) Tormund was great, much better then Mance in the TV Show, the only thing I didn't like was the end but the scene after that is more then capable of ending the series rather then stoneheart or some stupid dragon killing a kid

Smithy

Locke.
09-06-2014, 09:57 PM
Anyone else that has read the books...

Think Mance's book storyline after the next episode is going to be given to Tormund instead?

They've ignored Mance so much on the show, and they seem to be getting away from the magical elements as much as they possibly can so it'd give them a way to avoid the whole Melisandre switch between Mance and the Lord of Bones when they kill him. Mance is one of my favourite characters in the books but I really don't like the actor in the role at all... Would be pretty good seeing the Onion Knight give him a killer blow in the finale as well

Interesting to see what episode 9 is next year, I'm hoping it's

Either the battle at Winterfell between Stannis and Roose or the battle at Mereen with those lot. Seems like they'll both be in the first few chapters of book 6 and next season will cover all of book 4/5, so hopefully they bring one of them forward a tiny bit. Can't think of what else it would be, there isn't anything else that big really.

My top 5 characters after that series

#1 - Stannis ( a non mover since series 2)
#2. - Davos ( again a non mover since Series 2)
#3. - Jon ( Favourite in Season 1 since Stannis wasn't around then, he went down a bit throughout Season 2 but Season 3 after he ****ed off the wildings and left Ygritte behind and went back to Castle Black he got better again and he was great all the way through this season )
#4 - Salindhor Saan - the greatest pirate that has ever stepped foot into Westeros, one of the best scenes was him in a Braavos Bath with a pair of shores and then Davos just comes wondering in out of nowhere
#5 - Jorah - finally free of that silly little ***** after being used by her for to long

After the Stannis arrival and Brienne vs The Hound, I think my favourite scene was

Varys hearing the bells and thinking "Ah **** it, I'm not cleaning this mess up" and getting on the boat and joining Tyrion. Think that will be a good change from the books, he'll just replace Illyrio in the story now.

Amazing finale, especially the Kings Landing, Arya/Brienne and Jon/Stannis scenes. Loved Dany in the past but her scenes are getting more and more ****e. Also really enjoyed Brans scene for once, finally making his story more interesting. Not here for him flying or whatever though, and Jojen didn't get enough airtime for anyone to care.
The scenes in the east are going to be amazing next season what with Arya, Tyrion, Varys and Jorah.

oh god that was all kinds of perfect

BRIENNE :worship: although sandor :( i shall miss you you wonderful bastard
TYRION :worship: although tywin :( i shall miss you you even more wonderful bastard

the bran stuff was epic. Love the child with the crazy Jubilee-Xmen powers. Hope we see more of her, although I hope their whole storyline gets fleshed out rather than dabbled with as some kind of weird~supernatural~tease like we've had with Melisandre...

Stannis popping up kinda surprised me. I'm relieved he's stopped moping around with the illiterate guy, though. Jon's funeral was quite nice, but again I never cared about her so oh well...

just all in all a fantastic episode... really liked the scoring and the choir, too.

In the books Stannis didn't talk to Jon outside like that and I don't think Davos was there, Im pretty sure he spoke to Melisandre first in one of the wilding tents and then talked to Stannis on the wall straight after.. But the Ned dialogue was spot on though... Stannis said to Jon in the books though " i was no friend of Ned Stark's but i know what kind of man he was and you have got the same honest face as your father " in the books you first find out its him when one of the Baratheon troops shouts " STANNIS STANNIS STANNIS " after he destroys the Wildings.

Apart from them little differences everything else was pretty spot on with that scene

Best thing about the Dany scene was probably the music whilst she was chaining the dragons up and walking away, quite sad actually.

"Game of Thrones" ended its breakout season with a final smash on Sunday.

HBO's blood-drenched fantasy rounded up 7.1 million total viewers for its Season 4 finale at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen. That was a 32% climb from the third-season ender a year ago and easily the biggest season finale yet for "GoT." The first-season ender back in 2011 delivered barely 3 million.

When two additional plays Sunday night are thrown in, the total audience for the finale rose to 9.3 million.

not an overall high, but great ratings

It's ages away, but what dy'all think the big ep 9 will be for next year?

I think it might be something Bran b/c he'll be book 6 by then, or maybe Dany on dragon

anyway episode 9 should of been the final not 10 , 10 was weak compared.

didn't like two of the best characters dying. well 1 as the other may live
ayer was out of character it just didnt ring true that whole scene was weird. and not a good end with those 2 which were great together

how the hell did that happen outside the wall? where did they come from lol. makes no sence at all
the ship ending was silly.

the skeletons were great. the imp was great and jamie etc as usual
overall though i think episode 9 should of been the final , i think the fact they have to put so much into one episode each time is harming the story. not enough explianed.or played out enough

But to bring back Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, to be a zombie for a little while — and just kill people? It is really sort of, what are we doing with that? It's a only a theory, it's not confirmed but later on in the books Brienne meets a monk and stays with him, he tells her he found the hound and he stayed with him while he died, then later on in the chapter there's a mysterious grave digger who looks a bit like The Hound living with the monks. That's it really

Hey Locke, what did you think about

Had a feeling they'd do it because they haven't mentioned Tysha in the show since season 1. I guess it just means that Tyrion's current dislike of Jaime in the books won't end up meaning much.. Or maybe he'll never meet Tysha again or something.

Earlier in the season I was worried they'd not kill off Shae and have her sort of take the role of Tysha, leaving on that ship across the sea and then her being the one Tyrion was always thinking about/wanting to look for, so at least they didn't end up doing that.

Graves also suggested that The Hound will not be coming back after Arya left him to die on that hillside. “As far as The Hound, as I told the story … he’s gone. How is he going to survive that? The real point of it was that she walks away, it wasn’t that it’s left open ended.”

Q: There was a lot of online conversation. I heard third-hand that you were basically told that it’s not likely to ever happen. Is that accurate?
Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead.

Do you have a preference at all—do you think Catelyn’s arc should end where it ended, or would you be into the resurrection idea?
You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.

George R.R. Martin Says ‘***** You’ to People Who Say He Won’t Finish the Books
By Jesse David Fox

You know all the pressure you feel when you have to text a person back? Like, you know they are just looking at their phone, waiting for your text? Now imagine that text had to be 300,000 words long, and that person you're texting was actually a million people. That is George R.R. Martin's life, with people constantly complaining about how long he's taking to finish the A Song of Ice and Fire series. So when the Swiss newspaper Tagesanzeiger asked him about exactly that, he said that he found the question "pretty offensive." Adding, "**** you," and the gesture below.

It's understandable they have time constraints, and we know things in books always get cut out when making it to film. But it sounds like they have cut out some really good stuff, stuff that could fill in some scenes on the show that are pretty boring.

Ridiculous really.

Bran's storyline isn't the most entertaining but it's important that it isn't forgotten about because it's one of the most important in the long run. Should have just spaced him out in earlier seasons when action was at a high instead of cutting him out of the season that will probably already be light on action.

Sansa's storyline is pretty much caught up with the books as well, they better not give the best remaining character restricted screentime.

Mr Eko!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known as Mr. Eko from Lost, Simon Edibisi on Oz, and the Dark Elf Kurse in Thor 2: The Dark World has joined Game Of Thrones. He was a fan favorite on both Oz and Lost, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does in GOT role.

For now, all we have is speculation on that role. It’s been announced only as “Malko,” a new character for the HBO series. Given the increasing number of locations in Westeros and Essos in Season 5, like Dorne, more Braavos than a single room, and Pentos, it’s almost impossible to say–if you have any more information, we’d love to hear it.

http://winteriscoming.net/2014/10/17/two-new-characters-cast-game-thrones-lost-misfits/

I always pictured him as Moqorro in the books so hopefully it is just that character renamed, if not then it better still be a big role

After much speculation, Lena Headey has confirmed that she is indeed pregnant!

This will be the second child for the 41-year-old Game of Thrones actress.

“I’m happy to confirm that I’m having my second child this summer,” Lena told People. “I only hope that this announcement can help me to regain some of the privacy I have recently lost to prying photographers and ask that they please respect my privacy and let me enjoy this time.”

Lena stepped out showing off her baby bump earlier in the week – see the photos!

Lena is already mom to son Wylie, almost 5, with musician Peter Loughran, whom she divorced in 2013.

When it comes to HBO’s Game Of Thrones, readers of George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Ice And Fire series have long had the advantage of knowing what’s coming next, and the pleasure of constantly holding it over the heads of those who don’t. But according to Martin himself, season five is going to prove a rough ride for those readers. Speaking at the Writers Guild West Awards, Martin warned, “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David [Benioff] and D.B. [Weiss] are even bloodier than I am.” And without knowing exactly who’s going to get poisoned, bludgeoned, stabbed, shot, or catapulted over the Wall in the North, readers are now primed to be dealt the biggest blow since non-readers finally discovered what all their smug references to the “Red Wedding” were about.

It wasn’t all grim tidings for fans, however, as Martin established that he hasn’t totally abandoned his day job. “Whatever happens with the show, I’m going to finish the books,” Martin said. “But each of these books are 1,500 pages long and they each have enough material in them for several seasons.”

Of course, seeing as it’s increasingly free from the constraints of Martin’s narrative, HBO could actually do whatever it wants for a dozen more seasons, killing freely until Ser Pounce finally ascends the Iron Throne as the last creature left alive.

This just disappoints me :(

Why, as a reader, should I continue to invest in this world if he is going to allow the TV moguls hack away at it however they see fit? How do I avoid spoilers from the show, in an ever present media world, if I want to hold out for the books?

I am sooooo angry!$#*! :fist:

The killing of characters in the show that are alive in the books has been happening for a while, it's just usually really minor characters that don't make much difference, but George never shuts up about it anyway. It'll probably be more prominent this season though because the show is moving past the books now, which is something he can only blame himself for.

It has taken a long time but i'm finally up to date. My god, this show is incredible :worship:

The first season 2 seasons i had to watch twice.. First time round i was still left pretty clueless about what was going on at times, kept forgetting the characters names and couldn't really keep up with everything that was happening but everything made more sense second time round. Seasons 3 & 4 have been brilliant, the red wedding was obviously the highlight.

Robb was a nice enough character but was pretty boring and sat around not doing much, same for Stannis except he went into a war and got destroyed but has made up for it coming to Jons rescue at the end of S4. I'm probably alone but Joffrey was brilliant, i was gutted when he was killed off.. there was something really intriguing about him.

Jon, Daenerys, Hound, Bronn & Tyrion have all been my favourite characters.. Arya, Sam Ramsey, Jaime, Missandei, Theon & Shae (RIP) are all really good/interesting too.

Just read a load of spoilers for the first 4 episodes of the season, and I'm not really looking forward to it all that much now. They have changed too much.

Contains huge show and also book spoilers:

In Keeping with the books:

*Stannis offers Jon legitimacy and Winterfell in episode 2.
*Jon becomes Lord Commander in episode 2.
*Jon beheads Janos Slynt in episode 3 and Stannis nods afterwards, apparently it's a great scene.
*Kevan is back and taking zero sh-t from Cersei.
*Kevan says he will serve as Tommen's Master of War if the king himself calls upon him but he will not be a puppet of Cersei's.

Changes:

*Ellaria is taking over Arianne's material
*Winterfell is introduced in episode 3 (with Sansa and LF going there). Littlefinger is still there in episode 4 but gets called back to KL by Cersei.
*Sansa's marriage plans to Ramsay is revealed in episode 3.
*Roose puts Littlefinger in his place and does a good job hiding Ramsay's dark side from the others.
*Jaime heads to Dorne after episode 1, arrives in episode 4
*Tommen and Margaery have sex, it's off-screen but you can still hear them f-cking like jackrabbits and Tommen post-coital looks like he's in heaven.
*Regarding the Dorne storyline, all in all; "As a die hard book reader I was okay with Jaime's part in the Dorne storyline, it all seems to carry out organically and Ellaria and Doran have nice scenes together. So far it's promising."
*Not a single mention of the ironborn or Balon, or Yara.
*Illyrio never even shows up.
*Brienne meets Sansa but is rejected by her
*Mance dies in Episode 1 (what the ****?)
*Grey Worm dies in Episode 4
*Barristan dies in Episode 4
*No hint of Davos going to White Harbor.
*Theon has zero dialogue in both episodes he appears in.
*Jaime continues to be pussywhipped by Cersei and wants her affection.
*Brienne has some speech about wanting to kill Stannis

Most of this sounds like it will make for an entertaining TV show but it is all just so different from the source material, no wonder GRRM didn't take up the option of writing an episode this season or next.. The

Sansa marrying Ramsay part is the worst.. what a load of nonsense

Did anyone else see this? - http://winteriscoming.net/2015/04/03/george-r-r-martin-is-determined-to-finish-the-winds-of-winter-before-season-6/

‘Interestingly, Martin also reveals that he recently came up with a big twist that he had never previously considered involving an important character. The quote, reproduced in full below, is characteristically vague, but plenty intriguing.’

“I’m still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It’s a great twist. It’s easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations. Otherwise, it’s just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved…it all makes sense. But it’s nothing I’ve ever thought of before. And it’s nothing they can do in the show, because the show has already—on this particular character—made a couple decisions that will preclude it, where in my case I have not made those decisions.”

He must hate the show so much :joker: :joker:
