I think he's a bit too two dimensional. There doesn't seem to be anything to him but evil looks and scheming while the Lannisters are a bit more fleshed out. We're only two episodes in though so he might improve but I think he's the weakest part of the series at the moment.
I think he's hot!

Nice to see that chick from Hollyoaks, plus I just realised the king is played by the same actor that played the chubby bloke in The Full Monty!

I'm half way through the third ep, I think it's great but it's very dark.
A couple of year's ago I started to read the first book, I stopped soon after Bran was thrown from the old tower, I thought it was a horrible scene.
Anyway I think the tv show is very well acted and it looks great.

Next week is going to be a Lannister bloodbath I think, at least Tywin and Jaime will die and if Joffrey survives I'll be surprised. I reckon Jon Snow will have a bigger role to play in the future. They're setting him and Rob up as main characters I think.
Locke.
14-06-2011, 04:19 PM
I think Jaime will survive for a while yet and be the main bad guy. Think Tywin, Cersei, and hopefully Josh will die though.
I watched some interview show on Sky Atlantic the other week which had most of the cast members on, and the actor that played Jaime said him and Ned were the two most feared swordsmen in the seven kingdoms, so it'll be interesting if they're both gone by season 2.
Locke.
14-06-2011, 09:44 PM
Here's what I think will happen:
Arya will end up at the Wall. The guy she is with at the end of episode 9 is Yoren, who is one of the Nights Watch and who recruits members. Plus she has nowhere else to go now (her and Yoren will have no idea where Robb and Catelyn are.) Either that or she will go back to Winterfell, but then she would be away from where all the storylines are at the minute so that wouldn't make much sense.
They will trade Jaime for Sansa. She obviously won't want to marry Joffrey now, and I think this is the only way they'd be able to save her.
Something has surely got to happen with Tyrion and Tywin aswell.
This is an interesting take on future events which is pretty believable as well
In the end, some hero or heroes will stand up to Dany and defeat her. Most likely Jon Snow will lead this effort....thus the title A Song of Ice & Fire...Jon's Ice vs. Dany's Fire.
Joffrey is going to survive i reckon a character like him can't be killed of so soon can't see any main characters dying in the finale to be honest not even Jaime

Finale spoilers
7/10 for me and the weakest of the first season.
The scenes with Sansa and Joffrey were excellent, and most of Daenery's too. But I didn't care for the Pycelle part, and I thought the story moved a little too slowly.
Oh, and the final scenes of the Night Watch of the season has gotta be up there with the best.. really well done scene that.
Didn't think they'd bring the Dragons into it this soon that was shocking  If Daenerys has Immunity to fire then maybe Jon Snow has some sort of relation with the Extreme colds/Winter the Nights I am guessing when the dragons grow up they'll be able to ride them across the sea?
The Scenes with Arya, Yoren and Gendry were pretty well done and oddly enough Arya probably suits short hair better then long hair :joker:
I am glad the nights watch are finally going into the Haunted forest it was the perfect time to set things up nicely for the next series also i really don't get this feud between Varys and Littlefinger they gave them quite a long scene in that episode
Locke.
20-06-2011, 01:24 PM
The dragons looked quite good for a tv show aswell. Saw an interview with the writers the other day and they were worried about how they'd be able to afford the CGI to make them look realistic enough. Wasn't expecting them til near the end of season 2 though

It was a good epsiode but not a great finale, I think the main problem with this series is that all in all it didn't feel like a complete narrative, That episode felt more like a mid series episode rather then a finale. Is that where the book ends?

Via James Hibberd at EW, some great news: viewership of the final episode of Game of Thrones hit 3 million viewers, with 3.9 million viewers overnight across recap and other sources. According to TV by the Numbers, the “key” 18-49 demographic was 1.4, which surpassed Boardwalk Empire‘s finale in that same metric

I've only just started the second one now and hadn't read the first when I was watching the show.
It will probably ruin the twists and things but it explains the storylines and characters a lot better than the show has. And every time I googled something to do with the show there would be a spoiler in the suggested search bar.. So I'd rather read it in the book and be shocked than read it on the internet and be pissed off about ruining it

What parts were you confused about?
It was the first few episodes, I struggle to work out who was related to who. The Starks were easy to follow but the Lannisters were much harder.
Also I found it difficult to figure who was where, only the Starks and Winterfell were clear to me near the beginning.
I grasped it more around ep 4/5
As the stories started to piece together it all started to make sense. Which I why I want to do a re-watch. As much as I loved the whole series I'm really thirsty to watch it again, know what I know now.
Tom4784
07-07-2011, 01:49 PM
Yeah I think some of the relationships weren't really presented well enough in the first few episodes, it's probably one of the few flaws I can think of with the series.

I think when you watch a show like GoT where names and places are words you're not familiar with it's harder to take it all in. With the Starks, you had Rob, Jon, Ned, Catelyn, Bran and even King Robert which were easy to follow from their first few scenes.
Like I say though once I was mid-way through it started to come together.
I've just been reading back on this thread and watching the trailers posted (I never check anything out when I'm watching something for the first time) as really whet my appetite.

I watched the final ep a couple of nights ago. I really like the series, but I think it's strange the way characters like Ned Stark and Drogo are gone. I thought they'd be a lot more in it. I guess I've found it very unpredictable, I suppose that's a good thing.
Locke.

Ned dying was the most shocking thing i've seen in a tv show before. Was handled much better in the show aswell than in the book. In the book he doesn't notice Arya in the crowd, and because the chapter he dies in is from Arya's POV and she is pulled down by Yoren, his death isn't really described.
It isn't made clear in the show though that Ned is killed by his own sword, that he beheaded the Nights Watch deserter in episode 1 with.

I agree it was shocking, I was sure he'd be saved, and that was why at the end of part 8 you just hear a sound but don't see it happen. I thought someone would have killed the executioner guy.

When I saw a small advert for Game of Thrones I was immediately intrigued, it had all the makings of what I love about this type of a series. When I learned Bean was in, I hesitated. I have never enjoyed this actor.
That said I still watched it and crazy as it sounds I loved him in this and my opinion of him really changed.
I too was absolutely shocked and gutted that he was killed off. I had hoped there was going to be a twist because we didn't see it actually happen.

I'm about three quarters of the way through Book 2 now. I'd say so far that it is about even with the first (it starts off a lot better but near the middle it is more about building things up and getting characters to where they need to be). I don't know how they are going to go about some things though if they have the same budget as Season 1, because there's a lot of... CGI needed.
There are a couple of main characters from Season 1 that take a backseat aswell and don't really feature for large chunks of it, but you are always aware of where they are and what they are doing, so they'll probably manage to write scenes for them in the show.

Game of Thrones' executive producer David Benioff has revealed that the show will begin to change from George R R Martin's books in the third season.
Speaking at Comic-Con, Benioff explained that the third novel is too large to cover in one season.
"If we're lucky enough, if we have a season three, that's when it will start not corresponding so neatly to the books because Storm of Swords is too big to do as one season," he said.
"Our hope has always been that we can keep this alive somehow. There's a certain scene - I'm not even going to say the name of the scene because the name itself is a spoiler... Let's call it 'RW'. We've always felt that if we can get to 'RW', then we've accomplished something."
Martin added that he does not want to watch 'RW' on the television as it was so disturbing to write, saying: "When they film it and show it, I'm going to try to arrange to be out of the country during that period and some place that doesn't actually have television yet."
Meanwhile, Benioff also dropped hints about what fans can expect from the upcoming second season of Game of Thrones.
"We have a bunch of great new characters coming in," he said. "We've already got such an incredible cast, but it's time to meet the Red Priestess.
"It's time to see those dragons and wolves start to grow up. There's bad stuff lurking north of the wall. It's a season of exploration."
The second season of Game of Thrones, which will star new cast members Liam Cunningham, Carice van Houten, Stephen Dillane, Natalie Dormer and Gwendoline Christie, is expected to premiere next spring.

I do love the sound of Millasandre, the actress looks intimidating aswell in that picture that I saw of her on Winter Is Coming.
The actor whoes playing Stanis im not to sure of the look of him, also his more of a theatre actor aswell and thats different type of acting to TV acting, but I hope im wrong.

A lot of things are different in the first book though
Like when Jory is stabbed through the eye off Jaime, in the book Jaime isn't even involved with the fight he just commands his men to kill them all and take Ned. And when Tyrion is at Winterfell with the instructions for Bran's horse saddle so he can ride, Shaggydog attacks him.
That bit where Robb and Theon kill the wildlings to save Bran is really different aswell, and much better
It makes some things a lot clearer than the show aswell. Like it is only mentioned once in the final episode that Renly has declared himself a King now, and that is something that is mentioned a lot in the book and is really important. And there is hardly any mention of Stannis...
All little pointless things

A tiny bit of casting news, British actor Karl Davies has reportedly been cast to play a character named Alton Lannister. He has been seen on set and his CV confirms it. Davies has appeared on the small screen in the UK in roles in the British soap Emmerdale and more recently in the comedy/drama series Kingdom. This looks to be his first role in a US production.
In the books, there is no Alton Lannister. So it is unclear who Davies may be playing in the show. Reports from the set indicate he may be filling the role of Cleos Frey from the books. Cleos has a Frey father but his mother is a Lannister, so maybe they reversed his parents to give him that last name. In the books, Cleos fights for Jaime Lannister and gets captured by Robb Stark along with Jaime in the Battle of the Whispering Wood. His big role in the story however doesn’t come about until the third book, A Storm of Swords. Assuming Davies is playing the Cleos character, this lends further credence to my theory of them moving up a certain storyline from book three into the second season.
Well this is better than no casting news, I guess. Questions abound though. Who is Davies playing? If it is Cleos, why did they change his name and make him a Lannister? And if it is not supposed to be Cleos, than who is Alton Lannister and what is his role in the story?
He was Andy's brother in Emmerdale

If he is playing the role of Cleos then he isn't that important, he is just a messenger between Robb and Joffrey/Tyrion really
Why wouldnt they just cast him with the same name as the guy in the book though?

Saves time explaining the back story between the Frey's and the Lannisters.
In the book he is a Frey but somewhere along the line his mum or someone married a Lannister which makes him Jaime's cousin. And he is fighting for the Lannisters at the end of Season 1 when Robb captures Jaime, whereas the rest of the Frey's are fighting for Robb

All the new characters and actors (the bits in spoiler tabs aren't really spoilers, they just explain who the character is)
Character: Stannis Baratheon
http://tvovermind.zap2it.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/20100127_dillane_250x3751-200x300.jpg
Stannis is the younger brother of the late King Robert and the older brother of the self-declared King Renly. Of everyone in Westeros, Stannis has the best claim to the throne, considering that the newly crowned King Joffrey is actually the bastard son of Robert's wife Cersei and her twin brother Jaime.
Stannis isn't very congenial, and isn't very well-liked. He is counseled by the mysterious and dangerous Lady Melisandre, a priestess of a new and powerful religion who isn't afraid to use her mystical powers to Stannis's gain.
Character: Lady Melisandre
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/100_carice_van_houtenlarge_image-1-230x300.jpg
She's probably the most-talked-about new character of the second season: Lady Melisandre is as mysterious as she is dangerous. Known as the "Red Priestess," Melisandre worships the 'Lord of Light,' a deity known as R'hllor, through whom she can apparently perform feats of magic. Melisandre serves as an advisor to King Stannis and almost never leaves his side. A proponent of eradicating the old religions of Westeros and replaceing them with her new one, Melisandre believes that R'hllor wants Stannis to gain the Iron Throne, and she'll do anything -- and kill anyone -- to get him there.
Character: Davos Seaworth
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/liam-cunningham11-208x300.jpg
Davos is also known by his nickname "The Onion Knight," which he received after he smuggled various foods (including onions) to Stannis Baratheon during the siege of Storm's End. Stannis granted him a knighthood, but also commanded that Davos pay for his crimes by losing digits off each finger of his left hand. Seeing wisdom in Stannis's justice, Davos became one of Stannis's most loyal followers and one of his most trusted advisors, going so far as to wear the bones of his severed digits in a bag around his neck for luck.
By the time season 2 starts, Stannis has declared himself king, and Davos is growing wearing of Lady Melisandre, who is attempting to eradicate the traditional religion of the Seven and replace it with worship of her god, R'hllor, the Lord of Light. It's through Davos's eyes that we'll see the storylines of Stannis and Melisandre.
Character: Jeyne Westerling
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Sicilian+Defence+Milan+Photocall+2Di0U6MoSuBl-199x300.jpg
It's likely that we'll be seeing more of Robb Stark in the second season of Game of Thrones than we did in the second book of the series, which is why we're getting introduced to Jeyne Westerling much earlier than we were in the books. Robb meets Jeyne after he is wounded in battle and she tends to him. Yes, this story is going exactly where you think it is.
The producers have promised us a love story for the show's second season, and the dynamic between Robb and Jeyne is that love story. There's something standing in the way of their happiness, though: Robb's already engaged in a political betrothal with a girl from House Frey. Expect dramatic tension to result.
Character: Alton Lannister
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Karl-Davies.jpg
Well, here's the thing: nobody really knows who he is. Alton Lannister isn't a character in any of the five existing A Song of Ice and Fire books. The best guess of most fans is that Alton will fill the role of Cleos Frey from the books. Frey, who doesn't come into importance until the third book, is the result of a Lannister/Frey marriage, and it could be likely that Alton Lannister is the result of the writers wanting to put a stress on his Lannister heritage. If he is filling the role of Cleos, it's likely that we'll see him as a prisoner of war alongside Jaime Lannister in Robb Stark's camp when the second season starts. He is of lesser importance to the Lannisters than Jaime, of course, but his Lannister heritage still holds weight with his family.
Character: Brienne of Tarth
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/110708gwendoline-christie11-206x300.jpg
Also known as the Warrior-Maid of Tarth, and (derisively) Brienne the Beauty, Brienne is a freakishly tall and uncannily ugly aspiring knight, who comes to serve Lord Renly as part of his Rainbow Guard (yes, one of Westeros's few gay characters employs a 'Rainbow Guard'). Brienne secretly harbors affections for Renly, though he either is oblivious to them or chooses to ignore them. Despite this attraction, however, Brienne is more than a competent knight -- however, don't expect that to gain her any respect in the male-dominated society of Westeros.
Character: Roose Bolton
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/michael-mcelhatton-1.jpg
Roose Bolton is a nasty character. While he's a liege lord of the King in the North Robb Stark, that doesn't make him a good person. He's quite ruthless and cunning, despite appearing normal and mild-mannered. The Game of Thrones equivalent of a health freak, Bolton undergoes leechings to 'cleanse' himself, and as such gains the name "The Leech Lord." He has a bastard son, Ramsay, who's even more ruthless than he is. Of the characters we've met in the first season, Bolton will most likely interact with Arya Stark the most during the show's sophomore season.
Character: Xaro Xhoan Daxos
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/13131312081-208x300.jpg
Daenerys, after the death of her Sun-and-Stars, Khal Drogo, will move on to the merchant city of Quarth, where she intends to look for ways to travel back to Westeros -- after she's built up an army with which to do so. One of the characters she'll meet from Qarth is the elaborately named Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a Qartheen merchant who owns the ships that Daenerys needs. He'll offer her guidance as she faces various challenges, though he doesn't exactly come off as the most trustworthy character.
Character: Jaqen H'ghar
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/542060-tom_wlaschiha_02_super1-218x300.jpg
Much like the actor who portrays him, Jaqen H'ghar doesn't have the easiest name to spell. But phonetics isn't the only mystery surrounding the character of H'ghar, who we glimpsed briefly in the season one finale. We didn't see his face, of course; he was shrouded under a hood. He was also chained in a cage with two other nasty-looking characters.
H'ghar is part of Arya Stark's season two storyline, and he's one of the reasons that it's one of the most interesting arcs of the season. It's really difficult to say anything more without spoiling some plot details, so I'll just say this: he'll probably be one of the characters you talk about all season long.
Character: Margaery Tyrell
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/natalie-dormer-197x300.jpg
Margaery Tyrell is the bride of the self-proclaimed King Renly Baratheon. This very political marriage allied the powerful House Tyrell with Renly, making his claim to the throne even more divisive for Westeros. It should be no surprise that Margaery's marriage with Renly is loveless; Renly is carrying on an affair with Margaery's brother Loras, "The Knight of Flowers." While that relationship was only hinted at in the book series, it was blatantly shown in the show's first season, which could possibly give the relationship between Renly, Margaery, and Loras a different angle than it had in the book.
Character: Yara Greyjoy
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/game-of-thrones-casts-gemma-whelan-as-theon-s-sister1-240x300.jpg
In the books, her name is Asha Greyjoy. She's Theon Greyjoy's long-lost sister. Well, rather, Theon is her long-lost brother. She's a clever, cunning, and fierce warrior who commands her own fleet of ships. Raised by her father as an heir, Yara will clash with Theon after their unusual reunion.
Character: Craster
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/MV5BMTM2ODAwOTg0MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDU2ODg1MQ@@._ V1._SX214_CR00214314_-204x300.jpg
Craster's a nasty fellow, one of the nastiest we'll meet on Game of Thrones. He's a wildling who lives north of the wall, and though he is hospitable to the traveling members of the Night's Watch, that doesn't mean he is by any stretch of the imagination a good person. Let me put it to you this way: his family has more incest than the Lannisters.
Craster has nineteen wives, most of whom are his own daughters. You read that right. Whenever he has a new daughter, he waits for her to grow up before she becomes his wife, too. And his sons... Well, he very mysteriously doesn't have any sons.
Character: Gilly
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/hannah-murray-200x300.jpg
One of Craster's daughters is a girl named Gilly. Pregnant with Craster's child, Gilly is afraid of what her father-husband will do if she gives birth to a son -- according to her, he'll take it into the wilderness and sacrifice it. She pleads with Samwell Tarly for help, and he agrees, sending her to Jon Snow, much to the latter's annoyance.
Character: "Dolorous Edd" Tollett
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/544708-ben_crompton_super1-204x300.jpg
Edd is a sad-sack member of the Night's Watch who ventures north of the wall with Lord Commander Jeor Mormont and Jon Snow. He's a minor character at best, but he injects a little bit of humor into the bleak, snow-covered scenes he's in.
Think of him as Game of Thrones' Eeyore.
Character: Hallyne the Pyromancer
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/roy-3-2004-227x300.jpg
ut of all of these new characters, there haven't been any additions to the King's Landing side of the story, where Joffrey has just been crowned king. Tyrion Lannister is on his way to serve as Hand of the King at his father's behest, and one of his duties as Hand will be to ensure that King's Landing has proper defenses for the sure-to-come battles with the rival, self-declared kings.
To do this, Tyrion will employ pyromancer Hallyne to create a secret weapon that will turn the tide of battle should it ever come to be used. As head of the Alchemist's Guild, Hallyne agrees to help Tyrion with this new weapon, which, as you guessed from Hallyne's title, will involve fire.
Character: Maester Cressen
http://cdn.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/OliverFordDavies.jpg
We'll be introduced to Stannis Baratheon, Lady Melisandre, and Davos Seaworth through the eyes of the aging Maester Cressen, an advisor to King Stannis who, in the first scene of the book, struggles against Lady Melisandre for Stannis's favor. After Cressen is humiliated for his efforts, he concocts a scheme to once again become the King's most trusted advisor -- though things don't turn out the way he would have hoped thanks to the power of Lady Melisandre.

It was a good epsiode but not a great finale, I think the main problem with this series is that all in all it didn't feel like a complete narrative, That episode felt more like a mid series episode rather then a finale. Is that where the book ends?
In other news is Cersei trying to work her way through her whole family or what?!

Still 7 months away :( I was hoping it would be on february-ish.
They've been filming for a couple of months now but only certain characters have filmed scenes (Robb, Theon, Catelyn, and Jaime, that I know of).. Will probably be about 3-4 months before we get a trailer with new scenes in
Yeah I hate those kind of trailers that think they're being really exciting by showing nothing but a few words, it just pisses me off

Two Game of Thrones stars are reportedly competing for the same role in Warner Bros' new fantasy epic Arthur & Lancelot.
Kit Harington, who plays Lord Jon Snow in the HBO series, was said to have had a screen test for the role of Arthur in October and has now been recalled for a second test.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that co-star Richard Madden, who portrays Robb Stark, is now also in the running and is working on securing a test deal for the part.
RocknRolla star Toby Kebbell is also in line to test for the coveted role, while Joel Kinnaman is said to be in final negotiations to portray Lancelot.
Arthur & Lancelot is being directed by David Dobkin, who has also penned the project's script.
Watch a clip featuring both Kit Harington and Richard Madden in Game of Thrones below:

Let's hope that Richard Madden gets the part

After playing the bastard Jon Snow on HBO's "Game of Thrones," Kit Harington looks ready to display his sword-wielding skills yet again, as Warner Bros. has tapped him for the role of King Arthur in "Arthur and Lancelot."
A schedule is still being worked out, but once that is resolved, Harington should be able to jump into the role and begin shooting in early 2012. Joel Kinniman is already in place to play Lancelot with David Dobkin on board to write and direct.
Richard must have stepped aside and let him get the part.
Think I will rewatch season 1 sometime this week, read a recap on Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords, and then start Feast for Crows

With Game of Thrones: Season 2 premiering in the spring, rumors are growing that HBO is planning to renew the hit series for both a third and fourth season soon and to also shoot those seasons back-to-back. WinterisComing reports that they have heard from multiple sources that HBO is working on this plan and that much of the Game of Thrones crew in Ireland have been told to expect a nine month production schedule next year.
This would make a lot of sense, given that the producers of the series have already noted they plan to split the third book, A Storm of Swords, into two TV seasons. That being the case, the back-to-back production would presumably allow them to film the events of that entire book, which would then air over the course of two years. This would likely be cost-efficient for the expensive series, allowing them to not have to return to certain locations more than once or to stop and start up production again.

Game of Thrones will return to Sky Atlantic on Monday, April 2.
The premiere has been scheduled for 9pm, meaning that it will broadcast in the UK less than 24 hours after it airs on HBO in the US.
Lena Headey, who plays Cersei on the fantasy drama, teased that the second run will be "even more crazy" and "exciting".
Natalie Dormer, Liam Cunningham, Hannah Murray, Robert Pugh, Michael McElhatton and Patrick Malahide are among the actors who have signed up for this season's instalments of Game of Thrones.
The show's first run aired last year to critical acclaim. Peter Dinklage won an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for his turn as Tyrion Lannister.
Sky Atlantic recently picked up Showtime's House of Lies starring Don Cheadle. The channel also intends to air the first two seasons of American football drama Friday Night Lights starting from February

Game of Thrones has become HBO's most successful first week DVD release of all-time.
The adaptation of the George RR Martin fantasy series has sold over 350,000 units in the first seven days, reports Reuters.
Game of Thrones' record beats previous hit HBO series including Sex and the City, The Sopranos and True Blood.
The TV show's first season, which starred Emilia Clarke, Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage, averaged 9.3 million viewers in the US and was Sky Atlantic's biggest-rated hit of 2011 in the UK.
