Some parts of central Florida (on the North bit of the circulation) got 16 inches of rain in like 12 hours (I saw one 16.8 total)
SO tomorrow we have a yellow warning for rain for west central Scotland
warning states: Accumulations of 20-30 mm are likely in a few hours with a
chance of up to 40 mm in one or two places
I expect to get 20mm in 24 hours
They got 400mm in 12

Tropical Storm Ian is expected to become a hurricane again later on Thursday before making landfall for the second time on Friday, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has said in its latest advisory.
It also issued a hurricane warning for the entire coast of South Carolina.
Tropical Storm Ian is now about 25 miles (40km) north-east of Cape Canaveral, where Nasa launches rockets into space at the Kennedy Space Center.
Ian's maximum sustained winds have picked up to about 70mph (110km/h) and it is expected to become a hurricane again by evening, and make landfall as a hurricane on Friday, with rapid weakening forecast after landfall.

Rain recently in Australia has been staggering and worrying
From 9am Thursday to 9am Monday three stations recorded over a metre of rain:
- 1637mm at Mount Glorious, QLD
- 1180mm at Pomona, QLD
- 1094mm at Bracken Ridge
(Here where i am its been a wet year so far with 1044mm but that is over 11 months!)
Brisbane has absolutely smashed its three-day rainfall record with 677mm,
by recording over 200mm each day for three days in a row.
Before this week it had never even had two consecutive days over 200mm
and had only ever recorded eight in total.
The mean annual rainfall for Brisbane is 1011.5mm and it recorded 741mm
in just the four days from 9am Thursday and 9am Monday.
Speaking of records, Weatherzone is reporting Dunoon in NSW recorded the
second-highest daily rainfall total in NSW when 775mm fell in just the 24
hours to 9am Monday.

UK long range weather forecast from MO
Weds Dec 14 to Weds Dec 28
Confidence is low for this period, but overall settled and relatively dry weather
is more likely than stormy weather. At this time of year frost and fog are
common, and the chance of these, along with below-normal temperatures and
spells of wintry precipitation, is slightly higher than usual. Conversely, heavy
rain and strong winds are less likely than in a typical December.

The Met Office has warned that severe cold weather is set to hit the UK this week, with overnight temperatures plummeting to -6C (21F) in some places.
Snow is likely in northern Scotland, although temperatures will be low enough to make it a possibility anywhere in the country.
Frost and ice are also expected.
People are being urged to use their heating, despite rising energy prices, and to look out for people who are especially vulnerable.
Health care providers are also being told to implement cold weather plans under a level three cold weather alert, between 18:00 GMT on Wednesday and 09:00 on Monday 12 December in most parts of England.
A yellow weather warning for snow is also in place for northern Scotland on Wednesday.
BBC Weather's Simon King said that, from Tuesday night and for the rest of the week, a northerly wind from the Arctic will turn things much cooler, with temperatures nationwide ranging from highs of 1C to 4C, several degrees below the average of 6C to 9C.
"We're also going to see widespread hard overnight frost with temperatures dropping below freezing, hitting -2C to -6C by the end of the week," Mr King said.

Monday yellow snow warning and ice for SE England/London!
While confidence is very low at this stage, there is a chance that a band of sleet
and snow could push into east and southeast England. This has the potential to
give accumulations of 2-5cm quite widely, and perhaps up to 10cm in some
places, most likely, but not exclusively, over higher ground such as the South
Downs, North Downs and High Weald. In addition, ice is likely to form on
untreated surfaces, mainly nearer to coasts where rain or sleet is more likely.

not at bad as further west where its 8 "

UK long range weather forecast
Sunday 5 Mar - Tuesday 14 Mar
On Sunday, a mixture of sunny spells with scattered showers likely in the north and east, turning particularly wintry over northern hills and in the far northeast at times, and perhaps becoming more frequent in the north later. Drier conditions with sunny spells are expected in the rest of the country, with isolated showers possible at times. Light winds are expected for most, but moderate or fresh in the east. For the rest of the period, settled conditions are most likely across the country, with some wintry showers and snow the north and east at times. There is an increasing chance of it turning more unsettled later with spells of rain or snow becoming more likely. Temperatures overall will be below average, but gradually trend up through the period.
Wednesday 15 Mar - Wednesday 29 March
Confidence is very low during this period in general, but late seasonal wintry showers are expected across the country as milder air becomes less likely to affect the UK. This may also bring some dry weather at times, especially in western regions. Rain and strong winds are likely in the south, rain turning heavy at times. Colder and drier conditions are expected in the north, with wintry showers and a risk of heavy snow at times. Temperatures overall will likely be below normal, but milder in the south through the middle of March and perhaps beyond.

Arctic air is expected to bring snow, ice and cold winds to parts of the UK early next week.
A Met Office yellow warning is in force for much of northern and eastern Scotland, as well as north-east England and North Yorkshire, throughout Monday.
This means severe weather is possible, and people should prepare for weather to affect travel and other activities.
The Met Office has issued a separate warning for Tuesday that covers a wider area, including more of Yorkshire.

Thurs and Friday now a concern
Snow could develop quite widely across the warning area through Thursday
and Friday as a potentially deep area of low pressure moves across the UK.
Parts of Northern Ireland, north Wales and northern England are currently
expected to see the worst of the conditions develop from early on Thursday,
with parts of Scotland and northern England then seeing snow arrive from
Thursday afternoon.
Snow across central and northern areas will and persist
through much of Friday, while across the southern portion of the warning area,
snow will turn back to rain through Thursday afternoon and evening. Event
totals could bring 3 to 5 cm widely across this area, with 5 to 10 cm of snow
across broad areas, even at low elevations, with potentially 15 to 20 cm
accumulating across the central and northern areas. Higher elevations,
mainly above 150m, of the North Pennines, Southern Uplands, parts of the
Central Belt and the southern Highlands may see as much as 30 to 40 cm of
snow in places. In addition, there is potential for strong winds, which may
lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow.

There is an element of truth to this for the South of England. The met office
video forecast yesterday was on about the potential for severe weather from
Fridays low pressure, yesterday it was an area of thunderstorms over the USA
but could be picked up and go through some rapid cyclogenesis from the jet by
the time it reaches the uk..on Friday. Needs watching
this is much more likely than the forecast last week of a deep freeze

I have seen reports of 14 inches (which is mental) and 21.7" is an estimate (doppler radar based) but not official as yet and is over 72 hours
IN general, if we have a day of rain here we get an inch of rain
Boscastle (remember that) was around 7-8 inches

this doesnt bode well for the summer
i fear drought will be a major word for Europe this summer
The first images from Europe's new weather satellite, Meteosat-12, have just been released.
The spacecraft, which sits 36,000km above the equator, was launched in December and is currently in a testing phase that will last most of this year.
When Meteosat-12's data is finally released to meteorological agencies, it's expected to bring about a step-change in forecasting skill.
Warnings of imminent, hazardous conditions should improve greatly.
This is something called "nowcasting" - the ability to say with greater confidence that violent winds, lightning, hail or heavy downpours are about to strike a particular area.
art of this advance will come from the increased resolution of Meteosat-12. For previous generation satellites, a feature in a storm had to be at least 1km across to be detected. The new spacecraft will track features as small as 500m in diameter.
"We can now see very fine structures," said Jochen Grandell from Eumetsat, the intergovernmental agency that manages Europe's weather satellites.
"You may have heard the term 'overshooting top', for example, which is a part of a thunderstorm's cloud development where you might see very strong updrafts and downdrafts. These are very rapidly changing, and they are very small as well. But they are also very powerful," he told BBC News.

just to cheer everyone up .......
Our overheating world is likely to break a key temperature limit for the first time over the next few years, scientists predict.
Researchers say there's now a 66% chance we will pass the 1.5C global warming threshold between now and 2027.
The chances are rising due to emissions from human activities and a change in weather patterns expected this summer.
If the world passes the limit, scientists stress the breach, while worrying, will likely be temporary.
Hitting the threshold would mean the world is 1.5C warmer than it was during the second half of the 19th Century, before fossil fuel emissions from industrialisation really began to ramp up.
And breaking the limit even for just one year is a worrying sign that warming is accelerating and not slowing down.
The 1.5C figure has become a symbol of global climate change negotiations. Countries agreed to "pursue efforts" to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C under the 2015 Paris agreement.
Going over 1.5C every year for a decade or two would see far greater impacts of warming, such as longer heatwaves, more intense storms and wildfires.
But passing the level in one of the next few years would not mean that the Paris limit had been broken. Scientists say there is still time to restrict global warming by cutting emissions sharply.
