Crimson Dynamo
06-06-2014, 01:09 PM
watch out for Saturday:
Heavy, thundery rain is expected to affect parts of the UK on Saturday. Some initial thundery outbreaks, possibly accompanied by frequent lightning, may arrive from around midnight, but it is later in the night and during the morning that the south will be at risk from more widespread thundery developments and locally intense rainfall. The focus is then expected to shift into northern England, southwest Scotland and eastern fringes of Northern Ireland during the afternoon, while parts of southern Britain see improving conditions.

Areas of heavy, thundery showers may develop over England and Wales from Friday night before moving northwards into Scotland later on Saturday. The development of these is uncertain but where they do form some torrential downpours are possible with frequent lightning, large hail and locally strong gusts. Significant flooding is possible where these do occur from surface water as well as small, fast responding watercourses. The frequent lightning, large hail and strong gusts could also be an additional hazard.

http://www.thelocal.fr/userdata/images/1412059920_Montpellier.floods.sylvain.thomas.afp.j pg
The litany of flash floods caused by extraordinarily heavy rainfall in 2014 grew even longer Monday after record-shattering rainfall struck one of southern France's largest cities.
Montpellier, a city of 264,000 along France's Mediterranean coast, was hit with 252 millimeters (9.92 inches) of rain in just 3 hours, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. local time (9 a.m. and noon EDT in the U.S.). The exceptionally heavy rain flooded streets and quickly sent the river Lez out of its banks in the city center.
As of 8 p.m. local time, the city had tallied 295.6 millimeters (11.63 inches) of rain for the day, amounting to 47 percent of the city's average annual rainfall of 24.77 inches.
meanwhile
The UK is on course to have its driest September since records began, according to provisional figures released on Tuesday by the Met Office.
The country received just 19.4mm of rain up to 28 September, about a fifth of the normal level.
It has also been one of the warmest Septembers in the past century.
But forecasters say the UK is set for a return to more normal conditions in early October - with cooler, wetter, and windier weather expected.
The Met Office holds rainfall records going back to 1910. Before this year, the driest September was in 1959, when 23.8 mm of rain fell.

Yes, we had an air and grass frost this morning. I left the windows open upstairs last night so when I went to bed my room was 10.3 C and was baltic
I had to make 2 bottles for me and the devil dog.

Hot water bottles?
I had my leccy blanket on for about 3 hours before I went to bed :flutter:
The frost started really early here last night, about 6pm :bored:

"James Madden, a forecaster for Exacta Weather"
No, he is a one man unqualified bloke working out his house with no checks or comebacks who celebrity gossips sheets like the star and mirror use for cheap headlines.
"No meteorological or climate models have been used in the production of the following long-range weather forecasts. All forecasts are produced on a number of personal observations and calculations, that also include; solar activity, ocean behaviour, and historical weather patterns from my own unique collective data. This method of forecasting allows me to make a long term judgement on the factors that I consider to be the most important, and what I also consider to be the most reliable in the future for long term weather forecasting."
(from his awful website)
In other words he makes it up
And from the Star and the headline: "Temperatures may be as low as -4C in northern England and Scotland.":
Min temps have been this low for a few weeks and that is exactly what one expects for Nov.
So the article is utter and complete crap.

When ever you hear anyone say "they say blah bla blah" about the weather
ALWAYS ask them "who say?"
9/10 its not the Met Office so it can be totally ignored

That rain you have at the moment is coming up from the South but its also moving East and should be cleared by six to leave a dry night.

From the Met office:
Our latest three-month outlook suggests an increased risk of milder and wetter than average conditions for the period November-December-January based on our seasonal forecasts and those from other leading centres around the world.
It states “For November-December-January above-average UK-mean temperatures are more likely than below-average” and “Latest predictions for UK-mean precipitation favour near- or above-average rainfall for November-December-January”
However, there are still substantial probabilities that either average or cool/dry conditions may occur. This is because there are many competing factors that determine what our weather will be like in the coming months.
