A lake-effect snowstorm brought some serious snowfall to the Buffalo, New York, area on Tuesday, November 18. The National Weather Service said the region could see 12 to 14 inches by Wednesday afternoon. This video shows a time-lapse of the snowstorm sweeping through Buffalo.
In some parts of the region, as many as six feet have fallen within the last couple of days. Depending on the final measurement, the storm could even end up setting the US record for snowfall during a 24-hour period.

This forecast is based on certain solar, atmospheric and sea state conditions that are in place prior to the start of this winter. These conditions will be examined in turn, but ultimately they will lead to atmospheric responses that are likely to influence the forthcoming winter pattern.
Overall the key conclusions are that winter will have the following characteristics:
Slightly colder than average.
Around average rainfall but conditions favour wetter further south and drier to the north of the UK.
December likely to be the most unsettled month with the risk of a significant wind event (though less so compared to last year).
February the most settled and driest month.
Late December and into January is most likely to herald a significant wintry spell, though other major cold snaps throughout the winter are likely as well.
Most of the UK likely to see some settling snow at some point.
Overall Winter CET of 3.5-4°c.
December CET forecast: 4-4.5°c.
January CET forecast: 3-3.5°c.
February CET forecast: 3.5-4.5°c.

Looks like there will be some snow when a front pushes through sat sun and introduces cold NW air behind it. This will lead to wintry showers for Scotland and some parts of England but amounts of snow will be small.
So if you are say above 500 feet in West England or in Bonnie Scotland you may see some snow showers.

Severe gales may affect much of North Wales, Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Wednesday with a risk of storm force winds for parts of Western Scotland.
The very strong winds may lead to significant disruption due to fallen trees and hazardous driving conditions. The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and perhaps also power supplies.
Frequent wintry showers will also affect these regions proving an additional hazard.

Its a fast moving situation so it is difficult for forecasters. I would imagine 10-15cm would be for areas at least 350m and above (how high are you?)

A vigorous depression is expected to run rapidly east passing northern Scotland early on Friday. Winds will begin to increase late on Thursday to give a period of very strong westerly winds across the north of the Scottish mainland and the Western and Northern Isles during Friday. Gusts of 70 mph are likely quite widely with a risk of 80-90 mph gusts. Winds should quickly ease from the west during the day.
The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to transport as well as power supplies and the possibility of structural damage. Large waves may also lead to dangerous conditions along some coasts.

A cold and very unstable westerly flow covers the UK. This will bring frequent showers of hail, sleet and snow through Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday. These will be heavy at times and produce large amounts of lying snow on high ground throughout. However, as surfaces cool off later this afternoon the snow is likely to begin to settle at low levels, with this evening's snow potentially producing locally 5-8 cm above around 100 m in a short space of time, and over 10 cm above around 200 m. Wednesday morning could see similar amounts of snow fall once again, on top of what will already be lying.

:fist: 8" of snow. Terrible driving on the A9 and some country roads i had to go on. Braved the lot, got home yesterday avvo and ploughed the car up the drive but the sheer weight of snow halted me, i reversed and squewed off the drive and down the wee hill and got well and truly stuck. I was up at 7 in the gales and sleet this morning and cleared the whole drive (100 foot unmade road) and waited till the posty could tow me out.

There is a little uncertainty about a system waving around the SE on Sunday that will bring some wet snow to the Home Counties (at the moment) so you could see something from that if it pivots a bit more to the South.
You have a yellow warning for rain for that period so worth keeping an eye on the forecast

Yes, it wasnt quite as cold as expected but going down to the bus this morning in -9c was a wee bit chilly. I have been out feeding all my birds and putting salt on the village road which has about 4" of rutted ice on it and is tricky.
At best we will get to -3C today. My journey across country to an auction with no heating will be ideal. Standing around for 2 hours on a cold stone floor in an old high ceiling warehouse is perfect in this weather.

Outbreaks of sleet and snow, with rain along western coasts, will edge northeastwards across central and southern Scotland during Tuesday. These will fall on to cold surfaces leading to a risk of some icy stretches, especially across western Scotland in the morning. Upland routes through the Borders and the Southern Highland may see some periods of more persistent snow at times, with further accumulations of 5 to 10 cm possible on the highest routes.

I think its to do with the separate Public Health England and NHs Scotland set ups. Just like the Environment Agency in England and SEPA in Scotland who issue warnings independent of each other. That and the fact we are colder and so it would not make sense to try and include us.

"An area of snow is expected to extend northeastwards from parts of Wales across the Midlands and into parts of northern England on Tuesday evening and night, persisting into Wednesday morning. A cold and increasingly showery northwesterly flow is expected to develop during Wednesday and last through Thursday. Accumulating snow is likely away from windward coastal districts, especially overnight, with 2-5 cm locally at low levels. Higher ground, above about 150 m, could see in excess of 10 cm. Strong and gusty winds will likely accompany snow showers, and lead to significantly reduced visibility at times.

I love lightning. And luckily, the lights didn't go off. Usually if we get a storm the electricity cuts out in this third world county.

Yes snow covering for me too, but that is pretty normal for March. It never stays too long however.
Very windy for North Somerset/Bristol; Channel area today. Surprised they did not get a yellow warning yet.

a gust of 76 mph the the most impressive I have seen of sea level sites to far and that was Weybourne in Norfolk. Livia would be getting a right battering.
100mph at Capel Curig Wales but its 600 feet asl.

My dog walk got ambushed by a very heavy snow shower that came right down the valley and caught us broadside, so I had to change my troosers. It was accompanied by very strong winds making the snow arrived at 45 degrees and it stung the face.
You can see it arriving here:
