There is an insane situation going on at the school I used to work at, if a student tests positive in class they are sent home and any non vaccinated staff (who test negative) are sent home to isolate on full pay, while those vaccinated and test negative have to remain at work...you can imagine how well that is going down
Encouragement not to be vaccinated really
On that note I have in the past 2 weeks had 4 texts, a letter and tonight a phonecall about booking my second vaccine  No pressure eh..

I'm not doing anything other than pointing out that the government is probably going to reintroduce some restrictions at some point. I'm not saying I agree with them (or don't), I'm not saying they should (or shouldn't), I'm saying that they most likely will. That's all. We don't really need to debate it we can just wait and see if it happens.

[Guardian leads with reports that
the Treasury is pushing for nearly
all free Covid testing to end as soon
as next month in a bid to save billions.
It comes despite warnings from public
health experts and scientists,
according to the paper.
The department wants to end most PCR testing
for people with Covid symptoms - possibly by
the end of March - sources
have told the paper.
The government told the paper there were no
plans to stop free tests when regulations expire.]

https://nltimes.nl/2022/02/15/cabinet-approves-lifting-covid-restrictions-feb-25-sources-say
Netherlands: Cabinet approves lifting Covid restrictions by Feb. 25, sources say
This story was updated as new information became available.
The Cabinet decided to lift most coronavirus restrictions in the Netherlands by February 25, sources confirmed after various media outlets reported this on Tuesday. The ministers involved in the issue met earlier in the day to make the final decision on which changes to the coronavirus will be announced at the press conference this evening. The Cabinet is "optimistic" about the situation around the coronavirus, Health Minister Ernst Kuipers said after the meeting. "Optimistic against the background of an extremely high number of infections and fortunately relatively low pressure on healthcare."
When asked directly, Kuipers did not want to say exactly what the Cabinet decided during the meeting. Sources told AD and RTL Nieuws that the Cabinet plans to mostly drop the coronavirus access pass on February 25. For indoor events without assigned seating, everyone must get tested before entry if more than 500 people are to attend. No testing will be required for outdoor events
The Cabinet will implement the relaxations in two steps. The first set of relaxations will be announced tonight and take effect on Friday. The catering and cultural sectors will be allowed to stay open until 1:00 a.m. Social distancing and face masks will no longer be necessary for places requiring access passes. Events with more than 500 attendees will no longer be required to have fixed seating.
Additionally, the advice about working from home will be relaxed. Instead of the recommendation people work from home full-time, workers will instead be told they can go to the worksite about half the time if necessary. Additionally, there will no longer be a cap on the number of household guests per day.
The rules for mandatory isolation after a positive test are also being relaxed. Someone infected with the coronavirus will not have to stay at home for seven days, but only for five days. At that point, the infected person can leave isolation if they have not experienced symptoms of Covid-19 for at least 24 hours.
The second step will take effect on February 25 when most other coronavirus rules will disappear. From then, mandatory closing times will no longer be the law of the land, sources said. The Cabinet also wants to scrap social distancing, and coronavirus access passes everywhere except for large events with no fixed seating.
The passes will be adjusted to the 1G policy where everyone is required to get tested for coronavirus regardless of vaccination or recovery status if they want to attend events with more than 500 visitors, or nightclubs. The face mask obligation will also disappear, except for public transport and on commercial airplanes.
Traveling abroad is also set to get easier. From Wednesday, the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also be adjusted. Coronavirus infection figures will no longer be taken into account when creating a risk profile for different destinations. It means that more countries outside of Europe will go to the lower Code Yellow travel warning level.
Although most of the rules will disappear next week, Carnival will have to be celebrated indoors. Carnival is from February 26 to March 1. The mayors on the Security Council also indicated on Monday that it should be celebrated on a small scale: in bars and on terraces. There will be no major events such as parades.
Kuipers said he would emphasize that some measures remain in force, and it is vital that people comply with them. He referred to wearing a face mask when people sit close to each other, washing hands regularly, and staying home with symptoms. The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) also recommended this in its advice. "Therefore, here is my recurring message, ad nauseam. Stay careful."
For the first time since the pandemic hit the Netherlands in late February 2020, Prime Minister Mark Rutte will not be at the coronavirus press conference on Tuesday. His presence is required at a debate in the Senate. According to RTL Nieuws, the Cabinet expects tonight to be the last coronavirus press conference.

Netherlands: rules for travel risks will be relaxed, will open up long haul for foreign holiday market
---------
The coronavirus infection rates in countries outside the EU will no longer be taken into account in official government travel advice from Wednesday, the Telegraaf has reported.
This means dozens of countries will now be classified as ‘yellow’, or ‘caution required’ destinations, the paper said on Tuesday afternoon.
Formal travel advice has been linked to infection rates since the start of the pandemic, although the situation was changed for EU destinations last summer.
As yet, it is unclear which countries will change from red or amber to yellow, the paper said.
Nor is it clear what the rating will be for countries such as New Zealand, where overseas visitors are not welcome.
Travel companies had campaigned hard for a change in the system so they could again offer winter sun breaks to countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico.

https://nltimes.nl/2022/02/21/lets-get-along-now-covid-rules-phasing-dutch-pm-says
Netherlands: Let's get along now that Covid rules are phasing out, Dutch PM says
Prime Minister Mark Rutte called on Netherlands residents to get along again now that the coronavirus measures are being phased out. "My call is now, to myself and to all people: let's visit each other again. Listen to each other. Stand by each other," he said in an interview with the AD.
He came with this call in response to the polarization in society due to the debate around the coronavirus and its accompanying measures. "As if it is no longer possible to talk about a QR code, a booster shot, or a vaccine, without it leading to violent conflicts. The Netherlands has always discussed vigorously. We have n hierarchy. We are direct. But the undertone was always with self-mockery, listening carefully to the other."
He acknowledged that the coronavirus had a significant impact on the country and personally affected many people. In the form of deaths, companies that got into trouble, or children struggling with their mental health. "And in the end, it affected everyone, less or more. I can't solve that, but I can only hope and urge that we rediscover our national character: discuss, but also be kind to each other. We are a nice country. Make sure your family becomes a bit nice again," Rutte told AD.
The Prime Minister does not think that his message conflicts with the fact that he was the messenger of the coronavirus measures for two years. "I chose politics. When a monster presents itself, you have to look it in the eye. That monster is the pandemic. And it could only be combated with severe measures. And now I say, also to myself, and to my 17 million compatriots: a lot has happened, but we have to find each other again a little bit." Rutte stressed the necessity of the measures. "I had no choice. And I think the vast majority of people get that."
most people just wont be testing now and what is the point in spending 2 billion a month on testing when the numbers in hospital and on vents are decreasing all the time. Labour ask for evidence ... look at the hospital figures, plenty evidence there

And I think the vast majority of people get that."He was the instigator of the violent conflicts. He sent his police to beat up protesting citizens. The citizens should take actions to make sure those criminals face the justice for their violent actions. We've all seen the footage.

If you had flu you would not be able to go into work
I think "with a cold" is a better analogy
my point is that people go into work regularly without a care of infecting their fellow workers. Stopping the legal requirement to stay home doesn't prevent someone from doing the decent thing and staying away when they dont feel well, or, these days, work from home.
It's called personal responsibility
Also, i'm sure im not alone in stashing away plenty test kits while they are available for free, the writing has been on the wall for ages
Department of Health asked No 11 for more than £5bn extra last week to maintain more free testing, e.g. testing of NHS staff even if they didn't have symptoms
By Saturday, Department of Health's demand down to £3bn but warned of cuts elsewhere if no more £££
By Sunday, department's demand down to £1.8bn
But it seems talks between Department of Health and Treasury now settled with no extra cash, plan seems instead to move money around within existing Department of Health budget.

PCR tests remain free if you have symptoms, all they are doing is removing regular tests that people took in case they were positive and didnt know it.

As Scotland isn't ending restrictions, Scotland/England will serve as a litmus test for the world on Covid restrictions.
If the numbers start to rise (the important one; deaths) without a corresponding rise in Scotland, or if after a few months there's no difference in the numbers (scaled for population size), then we'll have our answer I guess.
where his opinions fall down is that he says things and then doesn't do it himself. For example, weeks ago he said the best thing he could do was go out and get omicron while his immunity is high .. and now in this video weeks later he is saying the same thing. Obviously he is not exposing himself to the virus himself.
After that, you have to take everything he says with a large pinch of salt

Pharmacy Boots will begin selling single Covid tests for £5.99 from Wednesday, despite free kits being available via the NHS until 1 April.
Customers can purchase a pack of four lateral flow tests online for £17, or one test for £5.99, including delivery.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday announced a "Living with Covid" plan, which will end free testing and scrap self-isolation rules and payments.
Asif Aziz, director of healthcare services at Boots UK, said: "We are pleased to be expanding our Covid-19 testing services even further, with affordable lateral flow testing options for those who still want peace of mind from asymptomatic testing after 1 April."
The company said the earlier launch date was to prepare both supply chains and customers ahead of the end of free testing.

And everytime I watch the sky sports centre soccer scores programme on a saturday and midweek, there is always a game held up due to an emergency in the crowd.
Tonight's game was at sunderland, with ab48 minute delay to the start of the game.

Jet 2 UK Airline
has ditched Mandatory Masks.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10566517/Jet2-airline-drop-face-coverings-rule-normality-begins.html
Is that wise?
Jet2 passengers aged six and over will still have to
wear masks on flights travelling from Scotland and Wales.
[The airline operates only within Europe, which potentially
makes it easier for it to drop mandatory masks
than for long-haul carriers travelling to continents
where the Covid picture is more uncertain.]
However, EasyJet, which also only operates across
Europe, Ryanair, British Airways (BA),
Virgin Atlantic, domestic airline Loganair
and tour operator TUI all said masks would
remain mandatory.]

I'm very sorry to hear your partner is so ill, she was lucky her vaccinations were up to date. Some strains are worse than others and some people's immune system can't cope even with a mild strain. I had delta luckily so I was able to cope out of hospital with over the counter meds.
Hope she feels better soon.

This is the reality that I still leed my life by.
I'm glad she's pulled through sherriff.. people need to be aware that not everyone decided to follow the government, lots of people have not ventured out, and not gotten the jab..because they never ventured out before hand..
But they are very vulnerable, and the lack of reminders on the TV about covid puts them at great risk from their kids, who now see fit to forget the dangers still out there.

It's exceptionally difficult to go through life and not come into contact with other people, even if you don't go out a lot. You have a responsibility to protect yourself, there are reminders everywhere about keeping your vaccinations up to date especially if you're vulnerable.
Have your jabs and have visitors wear a mask if you're concerned.
If you don't have your jabs and you get very ill you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Lots of fully jabbed people get covid, I did. I dread to think how bad it would've been had I not had them. Does he have long covid?
I think my smell and taste is affected still, but nothing major. Occasionally I can taste washing up liquid or smell candyfloss or mud. It's quite funny.

i don't know if its long covid, but quite frequently he gets very tired and just has to go to bed and he says is not predictable at all, one moment he is fine, the next exhausted

I have those exact same symptoms plus leg pain both legs 24/7 .. it’s manageable but stops me from sleeping properly as it’s more noticeable when you’re just lying there .. also sense of smell is impaired, gasping for breath after going up stairs .
I’ve been back at work for around three weeks with virtually no improvement.

Netherlands: As many Covid cases in 2022 as first two pandemic years combined: Blood bank
In the first two months of 2022, almost as many blood donors in the Netherlands contracted the coronavirus as in 2020 and 2021 combined, said Hans Zaaijer of Sanquin. "That does have an advantage because after an infection someone naturally produces antibodies again," Zaaijer said.
The combination of the many coronavirus infections and booster shot campaign resulted in an enormous increase in antibodies in blood donors. "From previous research, we already know how quickly the antibodies against the coronavirus decrease. We now see that the antibodies last longer in someone who has both been vaccinated and infected."
Figures from the RIVM show that despite the many coronavirus infections, hospital admissions are still low. "Omicron is more contagious. However, partly thanks to the high vaccination rate in the Netherlands, infections are usually mild. "Together with booster shots, infections with Omicron increase the concentration of antibodies enormously. That makes us optimistic for the coming summer.

Covid ripped through my son's class - there were over 20 of them with it at one point. None of them were poorly really - they were having to test daily which is how it was picked up as most of them were completely asymptomatic.

I never said it 'stopped' people from catching COVID,but if more people get vaccinated then it will protect their immune system a bit better.

I never said it 'stopped' people from catching COVID,but if more people get vaccinated then it will protect their immune system a bit better.
To be honest, if my understanding is correct, you get a better level of immunity from the actual virus itself rather than the vaccine alone so the large numbers of children who have had it are probably better protected than if they had been jabbed. The problems start if those children live with unvaccinated members of the family and those who are immuno-supressed. I caught it from my son but have had worse "regular" colds which I put down to being triple jabbed.

I'm guessing by the face palm reaction.... your sister in law hasn't got a good reason to be "unvaccinated". I always face palm & roll my eyes aswell ,when people say they're "not vaccinated" with nothing coherent to back it up with.
Unfortunately.... it Sounds like they're both too far down those rabbit holes, to see any common sense.

Reddit & Facebook conspiracy theories are fooling alot of gullible people out there. I always avoid that rubbish.
No, no good reason. I mean they're both fairly young (late 20's) so not at massive risk even unvaxxed, but the only reason they didn't is because he got it into his head that it was unsafe/untested and he managed to get her nervous about it too. For context ... he apparently also recently went into a panic one evening and started packing up their car with canned and dry food and clothes, so that they'd be "ready to go" if a nuke was dropped nearby. He's generally a pretty chill guy as well, he really needs to get off the internet :umm2:.

It's sad how bizarre & toxic social media & the internet has become in general. Yeah it sounds like it's really had an unhealthy mindset on them both.

i got the covids yesterday, i did think i could feel something in my body that was unusual, but i thought it could have been the wine watching the golf to late. But today I was a bit clammy doing my post , and my voice was deeper and croaky - nose a bit sniffly and a wee cough. I shall hunt out the lemsip. Oh i did do a test out of curiosity and it was pos.
