i got the covids yesterday, i did think i could feel something in my body that was unusual, but i thought it could have been the wine watching the golf to late. But today I was a bit clammy doing my post , and my voice was deeper and croaky - nose a bit sniffly and a wee cough. I shall hunt out the lemsip. Oh i did do a test out of curiosity and it was pos.

Apart from that all good:spin:

Hope you make a full and fast recovery

Since I got vaccinated I got nothing, not even a cold.
So I will definitely get another booster in six months time. As I'm in the vulnerable category. Getting covid could kill me, because of my kidney issues.

it's all about antibodies and how long they are retained by the individual, so there could be a wide variation in time between separate infection. It also may not have been the same variant

Oh my lord !!

We both presumably had Omicron in mud January just gone but we’re due to visit Florida at Easter but we both have to pass a Covid test before flying out there ..

I can’t get exited about seeing our son with this hanging over us .. plus we both work in schools so there’s no hiding away from things in the buildup

Throat shouldn't be that sore from a virus, you might have secondary strep LT. Have a look at your throat in the mirror with a torch, if it looks like it has a white coating/patches then you probably need antibiotics (strep is bacterial).

I had a bad strep infection a few years back (about 8 years now actually) and I **** you not, it felt like swallowing broken glass every 10-15 seconds. Actual torture.

Covid cases have continued to rise in the UK, with an estimated one in every 20 people infected, figures from the Office for National Statistic suggest.

All age groups are affected, including the 75s and over, who are due a spring booster jab to top up protection.

Hospital cases are also rising, but vaccines are still helping to stop many severe cases, say experts.

An easily spread sub-variant of Omicron, called BA.2, is now causing most cases.

Recent easing of restrictions and waning immunity from the vaccines could be factors behind the rise too.

The ONS infection survey, which tests thousands of people randomly in households across the UK, estimates that 3.3 million people would have tested positive in the week ending 12 March - up from 2.6 million the previous week.

Scotland has seen infection levels rise for seven weeks in a row. They have now reached a new record high, with 376,300 people estimated to have had Covid last week, or one in 14.

Infection rates across the nations were:

England: 4.9%, up from 3.8% last week - approximately one in 25 people
Wales: 4.1%, up from 3.2% last week - approximately one in 25 people
Northern Ireland: 7.1% , down from 7.8% last week - approximately one in 14 people
Scotland: 7.15% up from 5.7% last week - approximately one in 14 people

It comes as the UK continues to lift previous Covid restrictions. As of Friday, people arriving in the UK will no longer need to take a Covid test, even if they haven't been vaccinated.

Thats why LT and lewis have now caught it

From those stats, you are nearly twice as likely to get covid if you live in scotland compared to england

It has been a funny week, not sure that the fact iv not had anything in 2 years has not clouded my judgment. Iv been what i would say as fairly ill but i have not stopped my daily routine. My throat is knives, my nose has been on fire, chest full of cold (as in coughing like an old smoker at times) but have never felt the need to go to bed or adjust my day and i put that down to the vaccine?

so in summary looking at symptoms:

The five most common symptoms of Omicron are:

Runny nose (tick)
Headache (nope)
Fatigue (nope)
Sneezing (yep first 2 days)
Sore throat (yep the worst thing, but as a kid i was always succespitble to this as i could not take antibiotics)

so was this Stealth Omicron (BA.2)?

Well either of them strip your mucosal membranes and make you more susceptible to throat and upper respiratory infections, and excessive alcohol consumption whilst suffering from respiratory infections increases your risk of pneumonia... but I've done my public service announcement so it's your call from here! :smug:

That is an interesting point actually .. especially as schools/colleges/ unis aren’t even testing.

Slight tangent.. one of my colleagues tested positive on 24th Jan ( presumably Omicron as it was rife by then ) anyways she’s tested positive again yesterday ... exactly TWO calendar months apart !!!

hospitals would logically be the biggest contributor to the numbers these days, i can't fathom why anyone else would bother reporting results. Care home settings maybe. It has to be from a large institution

Makes zero sense. These figures aren't perfectly what we're looking for but illustrative; there are 45,000 hospital attendances a day across the whole UK. The stats are that 20% of attendances result in an admission and thus a Covid test (they're not testing everyone who goes through A&E; my daughter was there on Sunday).

20% of 45,000 = 9000 hospital admissions a day ... across the whole country. Falls just a touch shy of the 226,000 daily positive cases. And that's if all 100% of those 9000 people are covid positive. Even at a high estimate of one in five having it... that only accounts for 1800 positive tests... or 0.8% of the total daily number.

99%+ of that daily number, is not being reported by hospitals. The numbers just don't add up or even close.

MTVN
22-03-2022, 11:29 AM
People will still be reporting results to show their employers and things like that. There's no real harm in doing so now there's no requirement to isolate/you won't be traced and it's good to have proof of recovery if you're visiting any country which still has quite a lot of restrictions

Everyone is still so in the habit of testing a lot that it will be interesting what happens from next week. All the people I know who've had it recently have tested every day from infection and their household members have been testing every day. Lots of people still testing before big events as well or even just if they've been in contact with a positive case even though the government wants to move away from that sort of mentality

Lewis it can stay in your system for months, even after the LF shows as negative you would be PCR positive for ages, you are no longer infectious if it is 5 days since you tested positive and that is the key thing here, not that you are testing positive but how many days it has been since day 1 that you tested positive

There is currently NO evidence that suggests that mask wearing has ANY effect at all on BA2 Omicron

In fact the current case rates would suggest one thing

masks are useless against this virus

Scotland's mandatory face covering rules will now remain in force until 18 April, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The legal requirement to wear masks in shops and on public transport had been expected to be lifted next week.

But the first minister told MSPs that the changes would now not take effect until 18 April.

She said this was due to there still being a very high level of infection in Scotland, and because masks provide extra protection.

However, the requirement to wear a face covering in places of worship and while attending marriage and funeral services will end on 4 April.

Ms Sturgeon said this phased approach struck a "sensible balance between our desire to remove this one remaining legal measure and the common sense need for continued caution".
