Really great performance by Djokovic I have to admit, Tsonga had some chances and it should have gone to 5 sets had he taken them but he was a pale imitation of how he played against Federer.
Djokovic will be very hard to overcome in the final if he plays like he did today.

Haven't posted since Murray!
Yeah he was disappointing, made many errors did not step up. Nadal was brilliant but Murray made some frustrating errors and you can't do that against Nadal you've gotta be full on all the time. Oh well perhaps he'll build up my hopes next year and sh*t all over on my heart again!
Glad Kvitova won, she has been playing some brilliant tennis this year and I had no doubt she'd win. Sharapova is frustratingly inconsistent her serve is atrocious! I only wish Petra looked a little more happier when she won! LOL she was pretty plain!
I don't think Maria will ever win another slam. This year is her best chance but the hard courts are favoured by a lot of the top 10, as opposed to grass. So they'll excel and she will probably lose early on
Who do you want to win today marc ?
I don't mind I think it'll be nice for Novak to seal his new title of World No.1 by winning it but then again Nadal is phenomenal. Would be nice to see a new name on the trophy though!

Am I crazy for thinking that Murray will win this one? He's on his favourite surface and has won 6 of his 7 Masters Series finals (including two final victories over Djokovic). He also pushed Novak to a final set tiebreak on his worst surface earlier in the year in Rome.
Having said that, Djokovic is obviously the best player in the world right now and is full of confidence. Should be a good match.
And I hope Sharapova wipes the floor with Jankovic.
Ugh, I've had enough of Sharapova. She's annoying.

And Sharapova grinds out a win against Jankovic. She’s a shadow of her former self but still as mentally tough as ever.

great job heather! I reallyt didnt think she had in in her, but she ran out of gas.
Thats why Marc I said that she shouldve just relaxed in the a second set, and not put too much effort. That comes with experience. A lot of older players, would let sharapova tire herself out. Then raise their game to another level in the 3rd set. She was always gonna lose the second after Sharapova broke.

I thought this would be a 6-1, 6-1 drumming so the scoreline is pleasantly surprising.
This is the kind of player I feel Heather will grow into - a solid counter puncher with a terrific attitude who can push the biggest names when they have an off day. I think she’ll get some impressive scalps in her career but will by no means be a world beater. Solid top 50 player for sure.
Whereas Laura Robson has all the making of a top 10 player but will need to dramatically improve her movement. Nice win today despite the retirement and has a decent chance in round 2.

Just watched the boy in stripped pyjamas (:() and found out that it is a book Nadal recommends
Q. Why do you recommend reading “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”?
A. Because I found it very harsh, but, in the hardness, it has a message. When you do it to other people, it is not so bad; when they do it to you, it is very grave. They [the Nazis] killed everyone, but when it happens in your own home … Makes one wonder. There are always two ways of looking at life, from the same situation. Interesting

Tiger Tim >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Murray
very true
Murray is scottish and always will be scottish in my eyes. I'm a fan of his play and I'm proud to support him. Novo is just bitter :idc:
Murray wins. All that matters.
Phew! That got a bit nervy towards the end!
Bitter about what? that doesn't even make sense there is nothing to be bitter about if he won a Grand slam i probably would but he hasn't so...... at the minute he is about the same standard as Henman was at his stage of his career
And Henman wasn't overrated and overhyped?
No because he has an Olympic medal to prove how great he was bet Murray hasn't got one has he?
I love Tim too, but statistically Andy is the better player, Olympic medal or not :D
I'd rather win an Olympic medal anyday over a Grand Slam Gold, Silver or Bronze. it's the Olympics it's the biggest event in sporting history it overshadows everything apart from the World Cup and Superbowl.

You just are so there!

The Olympics is the pinnacle of a lot of sports, but Tennis isn't one of them. Grand Slams are worth a lot more. Murray may not have won one, but look at what he's achieved in this tough era. He's regularly playing against the greatest player of all time and the greatest clay court player of all time, not to mention a resurgent Djokovic.
I think Murray was born 5 years too late. There was a transitional period of men’s tennis between 2001-2004 (post-Sampras and pre-Federer) where the likes of Hewitt, Roddick, Ferrero and even Johansson managed to win majors. There were 11 different grand slam champions during this 4 year period. There have only been 5 from 2005 onwards. No coincidence there, just a tougher period.
Anyways, he's though despite playing poorly against a a player in good form. That in itself speaks volumes.
Andy > Tim.
That's all that matters.
Andy's to be Djokovic's best man soon.. :)
Didn't even know Nole was engaged! But that's cool
So who is going to have the pleasure of knocking the whipping boy Murray out this year? Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, Del Potro or maybe Fish? they are all lining up for him
Look at the draw and make your own decision
Looks like mr slick himself will have the pleasure of doing it tomorrow
Who's Murray playing tomorrow, and at what time?
poor azarenka getting knocked out by some beast
Who's Murray playing tomorrow, and at what time?
Lopez, night session about 11/12pm

Lol she's a great competitor. Will take a lot to beat her, sure isn't going to be Ivanovic!

They might as well give her the trophy right now. Azarenka will probably turn out to be one of her tougher matches of the tournament too.
Nadal through in straight sets. Del Potro and Simon on court now. Winner to face Murray if the Scot continues his ownage of Lopez later on.
Funnily enough Djokovic is the only top seed to actually be playing another seed in the fourth round. All the rest have unseeded players.
Andy v. Donald
Djokovic v. Dolgopolov
Federer v. Monaco
Nadal v. Muller
The only other non-seeded player still left in the draw other than the 3 mentioned above is Juan Carlos Ferrero who faces Tipsarevic next.

So it's the top 4 seeds in the men's semis... Who didn't see that coming? :joker:
Federer looked good against Tsonga - he'll give Dkjokovic a tough match. I still think Djokovic will come through, but I wouldn't like to bet my house on it. And Nadal looked damn imressive against Roddick. Murray could pull off the upset but would have to come up with something pretty special.
As will Wozniacki if she wants to win more than 5 games against Williams. Kuznetsova should have finished her off in round 4 anyways *bitter*
I don't think anyone on earth called a Stosur/Kerber semi so I really do not know what to expect from that one! Stosur in straights I hope!
I really love Stosur I'm glad she got it to the semi, I hope she gets to the final and I would be so happy if she won it overall!
Murray and Federer seem the underdogs at the mo, but I think Federer can win. As for Murray I don't think he can beat Nadal. Shame really cos this is yet another grand slam semi final he's got too

is the final on sunday or monday? :suspect:
How amazing would it be if Serena won tomorrow? :amazed:
And Wozniacki :bored: the poor girl only defends :idc:
Wozniacki is probably the unluckiest No.1 in grand slams. Them Williams sisters ruin her every chance! Howeve Serena is looking very likely for the title and she deserves it. I only hope Stosur can somehow beat her because I love her.
Murray losing was inevitable, thought Federer had Nole's number but he stepped it up! Nadal for the title I think
A Nadal/Djokovic final is a nightmare! Two of sports finest against each other... I want both to win!

Djokovic/Nadal is the best final the tournament could have hoped for. Unless Djokovic is tired from his semi final, I really cannot see him losing to Nadal. He's got such a huge mental edge over him after beating him in 5 finals this year. Having said that, the surface has been slowed down significantly over the years and could work in Nadal's favour. Hoping for a better match than the Wimbledon final ()

Well, not really! Yesterday's match was the first time Wozniacki had faced either sister in a grand slam.
As much as I dislike her gamestyle, Wozniacki is very unfairly treated when it comes to the no 1. ranking. She didn't ask for it and is not responsible for the system that determines the the rankings.
Serena FTW. She needs to build on her legacy. As much as I like Stosur, she just doesn't bring it to the big finals.

Britain's Oli Golding wins the boy's title. Congrats to him! British tennis is really looking up. Watson and Robson coming through on the women's side and hopefully Broady and Golding will make a successful transition to the men's tour.
Murray also won the boy's title as a 17 year old...

It didn;t even cross my mind that Stosur would win tonight's final, but win it she did. Well done to her!
Don't want to sound like I'm pissing on her parade but Serena was hardly moving due to her foot injury and fatigue from last night's late finish, but all credit to Stosur for playing the match of her life.
I actually don't care :D I love Sam Stosur. I've been following her for ages and loving her for a few years and I'm just thrilled!
US crowd were disgusting tonight, bias like every other country yes, but it was wrong especially after what Serena did.. :bored:

I dont think she was that injured, but even if she were, I cant believe her reactions to the empire. I am a big fan of hers, but she has got to be the worse loser in Tennis. YOu cant win them, all. Sometimes you lose, and try to do it with dignity! Really dissappointed in her.

Twitter exploded last night after it happened. She lost a few fans (even if it was just momentarily). Shocking display

Very good article. But she is never gonna lose me as a fan! I dont stop being fans of athletes, because they do some pricky thing! A lot of big time stars have bad attitude, I dont really care at the end of the day as a fan. But I am also fully aware, that she is a bad loser. And she lashes out at others when she loses, in the heat of the moment. Thats her problem, and she will pay for it through fines from her pocket, and suspension.
But I am still a fan! She is a legend! :)
I understand it was the heat of the moment and she went straight over to Sam and sat by her after the match, while the ceremony was being set up, and was smiling and laughing with her and being nice. I don't think Serena anticipated how much the crowd would react to the situation and it really put off Sam, constant boo'ing and cheering of Sam's faults. The crowd were really obnoxious. It just made me want Sam to win even more, she was the underdog in a very tough position and really excelled and did me proud. :)

Nah the injury wasn't crippling her or anything but her foot was severely strapped during the Wozniacki match, and her footwork wasn't as good as it normally is in the final. Even if she was 100% she would have still had a tough time of it just because Stosur was playing so well.
As for the incident, she really let herself down with her behaviour. She was totally in the wrong (unlike 2009) so had absolutely no excuse. It's amazing how quickly she dismisses it from her mind and acts like nothing ever happened. I've not seen her press conference but I can imagine how it went. It's really not difficult to see why so many people dislike her.
As for me, I don't call myself a fan of hers simply due to her attitude but I respect the hell out of her tennis. I dont think 13 majors shows what a player she actually is. I want her to build on her legacy and at least match Navratilova and Evert's 18.
I understand she's a great champion and I respect that but I wouldn't mind watching new women win slams, like Sam did, I think it just makes the womens game more exciting.

What else can we say about Djokovic this year? Just too good.
I haven't spoken in here for a while  LOL
Kvitova won the end of tour championships last week; a new star in the making in the women's side.
Federer and Djokovic still going strong in the Swiss open. Murray pulled out of this tournament and Nadal has pulled out of the Paris Masters.
Just goes to show that this calendar is a little extreme!

^ You jinxed him Marc! :o :joker: Djokovic lost to Nishikori in the semis. I didn't see the match but the 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-0 scoreline is suspicious. Maybe an injury.
Kvitova will be number 1 in no time. A decent month in Australia should do it.
Also, I booked my tickets for the ATP tour finals at the O2 the other day. Hope I get a good match this year. I saw Djokovic v Berdych last year and it was pretty terrible. Berdych just didn't show up.
Aw I didn't see this until now;
Have you gone to the ATPFinals yet? I have been the past 2 years but I couldn't risk going this year because I have far too much Uni work to get done. Silly Andy Murray :(

Andy Murray has just employed Ivan Lendl as his full time coach.. :amazed:
Laura Robson and James Ward qualify for Australian Open main draw: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/16543983.stm
Six Brits in the main draw, Andy and James on the mens side and Elena, Heather, Laura and Anne on the womens side. :)
Laura Robson plays Jelena Jankovic [13] (Played against each other at Wimbledon 2010, good performance from Robson but lost in 2Sets 6-3 7-6)
Elena Baltacha plays Stephanie Foretz Gacon (Ranked 108 in the world, never progressed further than the 2ND Round of Australian Open in her 15 year career)
Heather Watson plays Victoria Azarenka [3] (Winner of Sydney this week, never made a Grand Slam final)
Anne Keoathavong plays Mona Barthel (Surprise winner of Hobart this week, first time playing in Australian Open, best Grand Slam appearances being the 2ND Round at both French and US Opens last year)
James Ward plays Blaz Kavcic (Made all Grand Slam main draws last year, Best performance was 2ND round in Australian and French Opens in 2011)
Andy Murray plays Ryan Harrison (Best showing in Australian Open is 1ST round, ranked 84 in the world, highest scalp is No.15 seed Ivan Ljubicic in the US Open last year)

Unlucky draws for Watson and Robson but not bad for Ward. Baltacha should come through comfortably. Then after round 2, British focus will be entirely on Murray again :joker:
Quarter final predictions Marc?
Djokovic v Tipsarevic
Murray v Tsonga
Federer v Del Potro
Nadal v Berdych
Wozniacki v Clijsters
Azarenka v Radwanska
S. Williams v Kuznetsova
Kvitova v Bartoli
Yeah Brits will never do well
Djokovic v Tipsarevic
Murray v Tsonga
Federer v Del Potro
Nadal v Berdych
Li Na (Clijsters injury is a worry) v Wozniacki (if she's not injured)
Azarenka v Radwanska
Williams v Lisicki (optimistic)
Kvitova v Stosur
Five brave Brits went on court today, one came off with an injury, one came off having only won 1 game, one came off having only won 2 games, and the other two lost in straight sets.
What a shocker! :joker:
1/6 Brits remain.

Yeah it's exciting! I like the womens game at the moment because it isn't ruled by just one or two players like it has been in the past. Last year we had four different slam winners. I hope the same can happen this year, Stosur, Na, Kvitova, Clijsters all slam contenders. And we can never disregard Sharapova or Serena
