Meanwhile, there's another big week ahead for Clare Devine on Hollyoaks as she steps up her wicked behaviour.

When Doctor Browning finally gets hold of the ransom money to secure the safe return of Mercedes, he follows Clare's instructions and leaves the cash in a bag at the gym.

Unfortunately, Leanne Holiday has an identical bag and a mix-up leads to Clare (Gemma Bissix) ending up with the student's sweaty gym gear rather than the fortune she'd been dreaming of.

Certain she's been double-crossed, Clare locks Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) in a cage and dumps her in the middle of a scrap yard, guarded by two Dobermans.

Browning is left in a serious condition after Clare's attack, and Mercy is terrified as she fears that he won't pull through…

Evil Clare also has little Tom Cunningham in her sights as she pays him a surprise visit at The Dog in the Pond.

Tom (Ellis Hollins) first becomes aware of Clare's return when he spots her in The Dog's car park, and he's fearful that she might come to get him.

The schoolboy's worst fears are confirmed when Clare sneaks into the pub while Darren Osborne is distracted.

Tom is horrified to be faced with the woman of his nightmares - will Clare harm him?

'Hollyoaks' Tony actor Nick Pickard: 'I don't expect renewed contract'

Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard has admitted that he never expects to get his contract renewed.

Pickard, who has played Tony Hutchinson in the soap for 18 years, revealed that he is always surprised when he is asked to stay on for another year.

Speaking to K9 magazine, he said: "I first joined Hollyoaks when I was 19 years old and I'm now 37, every year I expect it to end – hope it doesn't – but expect that it could, and every year they keep asking me to stay for another year, so I'm very lucky.

"I don't know when I became one of the older cast members – I'm now on the 'over 25′s' cast list section!

"Tony's had some interesting times over the years. They do say they sometimes try to pick parts of your personality out to put into the character but I think we're so different, I don't think there are any similarities between us. He's great to play. He's got some really exciting times ahead."

Pickard is full of praise for producer Bryan Kirkwood who returned last year after a period of working on EastEnders.

"Our boss, Bryan Kirkwood, is the most passionate producer. I've enjoyed working with everyone on the show so far, but there's something extra with Bryan.

"He's so driven, he did a three-year stint and at the end of it he was grey. He came back last year and I think if you have someone at the top so driven to succeed, who puts everything into it then the end results of success and awards follow."

It was recently announced that Tony would be diagnosed with testicular cancer, in an upcoming storyline.

'Hollyoaks' Gemma Bissix: 'Clare has an expiry date'

Hollyoaks star Gemma Bissix has suggested that her character Clare Devine should continue popping in and out of the village rather than staying around forever.

Clare is currently back on screen for a short guest stint before she returns for a longer run in the summer.

Speaking on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff this morning (April 15), Bissix claimed that Clare has an "expiry date" and works best when brought in for specific storylines.

Bissix explained: "She's kind of developed, and now it's definitely red nails, red lipstick and the red dress. The thing with Clare is that she's got this invincibility about her, which is what I love. That's the thing - she is purely evil.

"It's so funny and it keeps me happy on a daily basis, because I get to get rid of all those demons and exorcise all these things. It's so much fun.

"I've done a little stint this time and I will be going back in the summer to do a good few months. So that's the plan. But I think she has an expiry date, so you can only do bits and pieces at a time."

Bissix has been living in Liverpool with co-stars Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson) and Jimmy McKenna (Jack Osborne) while filming her latest Hollyoaks scenes, which have seen Clare kidnap Mercedes McQueen.

She added: "It's like going home and seeing your family again. It's been fantastic."

Bissix is also currently busy preparing for an upcoming touring production of murder mystery Murder In Play, which kicks off next month.

'Hollyoaks' star Claire Cooper: "Most people don't recognise me"

Hollyoaks star Claire Cooper has revealed that people often don't recognise her in real life.

Cooper - who is leaving the Channel 4 soap this week after seven years of playing Jacqui McQueen - said she isn't recognised as her alter ego as she looks so different, PA reports.

She said: "Most people don't recognise me. If I'm with someone from the show they usually hand me their camera and go, 'Can you take a picture', and then when they go off go, 'Oh my god that's Jacqui'. I don't mind, it's so funny.

"And I've seen myself on screen and go, 'Woah did I really look like that?'"

The 33-year-old admitted that although she would never dress like Jacqui she did take some of her clothes as souvenirs of her time on the show.

"I brought jewellery home actually, some of her boots and leopard print. But do you know what, it's so much fun wearing that stuff because I wouldn't normally dream of wearing half the things she does," Cooper said.

Fans of the soap will see Jacqui resort to desperate measures to secure her sister Mercy's safe return this week, ultimately forcing her to leave the village behind.

'Hollyoaks': Will and Leanne caught out by Texas

This is the moment that Hollyoaks bride-to-be Texas Longford catches fiancé Will Savage kissing her best friend Leanne Holiday.

Will (James Atherton) makes a move on Leanne (Jessica Forrest) after she threatens to tell Texas about his recent crazy behaviour.

Knowing that Leanne has feelings for him, Will kisses her in a desperate attempt to keep her on his side. Unfortunately, his timing couldn't be worse as Texas (Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove) and Dodger catch him red-handed.

The unfortunate moment for Will comes as he and Texas have been celebrating their stag and hen parties.

After witnessing Will's betrayal, Texas admits to Dodger (Danny Mac) that she was relieved by what she saw - confessing that he's the one she really wants.

The next morning, Will fears that he's lost Texas for good when he watches CCTV footage of her climbing into the back of Dodger's van.

Texas is ready to break up with Will when she next sees him, but he leaves her questioning everything again by claiming to have a life-threatening aneurysm. Is he telling the truth or is this another desperate scheme?

Hollyoaks star Gemma Bissix has admitted that viewers will be scared for Tom Cunningham when her character Clare catches up with him.

In scenes to be aired next week, Clare goes and sees Tom after being told by Doctor Browning that he has the bag that has £200,000 cash in it.

Speaking to Telly Spy, Bissix said: "When she realises it's Tom Cunningham (who has the money), she actually has a smile on her face.

"She knows she can deal with Tom as he is no threat to her at all. She is definitely going to get her money, she goes round there to terrorise him basically."

Bissix also revealed that viewers will be frightened watching Clare's scenes with Tom as her alter ego is capable of anything.

"I think she is capable of anything and that is what is so scary for the viewers about Clare, they actually don't know what she is capable of.

"With Tom there are no consequences, she just wants what she wants to get. When Tom is quivering and scared, she says, 'You remember what I did to your brother and you remember how evil I was'. It's a power gain," she added.

"I think viewers will be quite scared. Clare is so unpredictable, but still predictable in a way that she's not going to go away empty-handed, so I think the viewers will be a mixture of being excited, but also very very scared for Tom."

Things step up a gear next week for Hollyoaks pair Carmel McQueen and Jim McGinn.

Carmel (Gemma Merna) is thrown when she discovers that Jim (Dan Tetsell) is leaving for a new job in London and is surprised by her feelings, deciding she has to stop him.

Hollyoaks fans see the Mercedes and Clare storyline escalate next week with a dramatic hostage situation.

When evil Clare (Gemma Bissix) misses out on getting the ransom money she has demanded for Mercy's safe return, she takes her revenge by locking the feisty McQueen in a cage surrounded by vicious dogs.

As Doctor Browning arrives on the scene, he is reunited with Mercedes for the first time in weeks - but with Clare hell-bent on getting even, the couple are in serious danger…

Digital Spy recently caught up with Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes, to hear her take on the storyline and more.

You're back on screen with a bang after a little break. How does it feel to be back?
"It's fab to be back. It took me a couple of weeks to warm back up again, as they always chuck me back in with a massive storyline! I'd been hoping that I'd get an easy ride for a month or two! (Laughs.)

"It was quite challenging for a couple of weeks as I was getting back into the swing of things, but I soon got to grips with it again and it's great to be filming some really good stuff. I'm really enjoying it."

Part of your time off was for a pantomime at Christmas. Did you enjoy that new experience?
"I loved it. It was very tiring, and everyone pre-warned me that I'd be ridiculously shattered. I thought I'd be fine, but they were right! It was really fun, though, and I met some great people. It was quite nice to just try something new for four weeks."

When did you first hear about the Mercedes and Clare storyline?
"I honestly didn't know about it until shortly before I came back. It was great news to see that Clare would be coming back. Mercedes is a proper bitch, and it's quite nice to bring one of the old-school bitches back to challenge her.

"It's been great working with Gemma again, too. It's been four years but nothing has changed. We have a real laugh on set and produce some really good stuff together."

What made Mercedes want to team up with Clare in the first place?
"I think it was just desperation. Mercedes just wanted to get back at Doctor Browning. She saw an opportunity to do that and wouldn't let it pass."

How does Mercy feel now that things have taken such a turn for the worse?
"It's the last thing she wanted! But at the same time, there's still a part of Mercedes that wants to pay Doctor Browning back for playing games with her in Las Vegas. As bad as it is, I think she's slightly enjoying the fact that she's making him feel the pain. But in the long run, she does want to work things out with Doctor Browning."

Knowing what Clare is like, does Mercy genuinely fear for her life in any of the scenes?
"Yeah, I think she does. Mercedes knows that Clare is an absolute oddball and a loose cannon. Anything can happen when she's around!"

How do you think they compare to each other in the bad girl stakes?
"I think both characters are quite different. Clare is definitely capable of more, because she's colder and probably more evil. Mercedes has got a heart underneath it all."

What can you tell us about next week's scenes which see Mercy being held captive in a cage by Clare?
"They're really fab scenes and there's a lot of high drama. They weren't very glamorous to film, as we were in the middle of a cage in a scrapyard when we'd been having all of the blizzards and the snow. However, once we watched some of the footage back, we could see that it was worth every minute.

"First of all, Mercedes is trapped on her own in the cage, but then Clare brings Doctor Browning along too. She threatens both of them with some wild dogs, so it's all very dramatic!"

Were the dogs scary in real life?
"No, they were like little pooches! We were asking, 'How the hell are we going to make those look scary?!' They had a limit on the dogs they could bring and how vicious they could be. But through camera angles, lighting and close-ups, they managed to make them look scary. I just wanted to cuddle them, though!"

How does Mercedes feel about seeing Browning again?
"She's really happy. I think at one point she does realise that her life is at risk, but she also sees just how far Browning will go for her. Browning means the world to her at the end of the day, and Mercedes is over the moon that he's come to save her.

"What the writers really wanted to get out of these scenes was to show how much these two characters care for each other, so I hope that comes across."

By this point in the storyline, Jacqui has sacrificed a huge deal for Mercedes. How would Mercy feel about that?
"As they're blood sisters, Jacqui will always go the extra mile for Mercedes. I think this just proves to Mercedes how much she means to her sister, and that's really nice."

We know you're good friends with Claire Cooper, who plays Jacqui, so how do you feel about her moving on?
"I think it's great for Claire, because she made the decision to leave and obviously I support that. I think it's a good thing for her. I've had lots of friends in the show who've left and gone on to do great things or even changed their career paths. I'm sure whatever she ends up doing, she'll be very happy with, so I wish her all the luck."

We know Clare Devine is back for a longer period in the summer, so is Mercy likely to hold a grudge if she makes it out of the cage alive?
"I really don't know - she's already had quite a big stand-off with Mitzeee, so maybe Clare coming back will bring it to a whole new level!"

What do you make of the recent changes to Hollyoaks?
"I think they've been brilliant. The minute everyone heard that [executive producer] Bryan Kirkwood was coming back, there was a real buzz about the place. That seems to be escalating now, because we're all talking to each other about the storylines we're getting and we're really excited to see what's coming up next!"

Hollyoaks character Diane O'Connor discovers she's having twins in an upcoming episode.

Diane, played by Alex Fletcher, has longed for a baby of her own and finally fell pregnant after a night of passion with Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard).

The pair are "gobsmacked" when medics reveal during her scan that she is carrying two babies, the Daily Star Sunday reports.

Diane's pregnant stepdaughter Sinead (Stephanie Davis) apparently becomes worried at the news since her stepmother had planned to adopt her baby.

Afraid that she'll be left alone to look after her baby, she goes to see Tony, who is battling testicular cancer, and begs him to help raise the kids.

An insider said: "Tony keeps his illness a secret but once he finds out Diane is having his twins he breaks down."

The Hollyoaks scenes will air on Channel 4 on May 2.

Ste Hay will team up with Hollyoaks newcomer Freddie Roscoe and become a drug dealer.
In a shock new plot to be screened later this month the troubled lad will be introduced to Robbie Roscoe’s older brother.
And it seems it will be a match made in hell as Ste - played by Kieron Richardson - realises Freddie is dealing and wants in on the action.
Freddie agrees to team up with him to sell the illegal drugs to students around Chester.
Kieron has previously admitted that his character will go down a dark path and soap insiders say this is just the start.
A show insider said: “Ever since Brendan went to jail Ste has been on a downward spiral, but being a drug dealer is an all time low.
“It seems that when it comes to the Roscoe’s trouble runs in the family.
“Robbie is a nightmare but he’s not on the same scale as his older brother.
“Freddie working with Ste could be a recipe for disaster.”

Think of something new Hollyoaks.

They had a good chance to develop her character with Malachy's death and then again when she had a breakdown. But the need to revert her to type after five minutes just makes her character incredibly boring and repetitive.

Also, Jacqui went to all that trouble and had to leave just so those creepy idiots can have a flashy wedding? What disservice to a great character.

The whole Tom/Clare stuff would be a lot better if they hadn't made her so OTT and panto. She looked much better in her gym gear. :laugh:

'Hollyoaks': Phoebe McQueen gets new love interest

Hollyoaks fans see a possible romance storyline begin for Phoebe McQueen next week as she grows close to village newcomer Vincent Elegba.

Vincent, played by John Omole, is one of the illegal immigrants who were set free by Phoebe and Jacqui in last week's episodes.

When Phoebe (Mandip Gill) spots Vincent outside College Coffee next week, she is shocked to see that he is still hanging around in the village.

Later, however, Phoebe is impressed as Vincent is a real hero when Maxine Minniver collapses during a rave at Chez Chez - putting her into the recovery position and staying by her side until the ambulance arrives.

Realising that Vincent may need her help, Phoebe makes sure that he's out of sight when the police raid the club following the dramatic incident.

'Hollyoaks': Mercedes to cause chaos at Texas's wedding

Hollyoaks student Texas Longford looks set to finally see her fiancé Will Savage's true colours when Mercedes McQueen gatecrashes their wedding.

As Texas's big day with Will (James Atherton) gets under way, scheming Mercedes interrupts the proceedings to drop two big bombshells.

Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and her ruthless partner Doctor Browning (Joseph Thompson) develop a grudge against the couple after Will uses their cash to pay for the lavish wedding.

Earlier this week, viewers saw Browning and the McQueens lose a six-figure sum after a mix-up led to Leanne Holiday picking up their bag of money and handing it over to Will.

It doesn't take long for Browning and Mercy to discover who has the missing fortune, as well as the fact that Will is lying to Texas about having a brain aneurysm.

After biding her time, Mercy causes chaos at the wedding by telling Texas that her ceremony has been paid for with stolen cash. She also adds that Will is lying about being unwell.

Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove, who plays Texas, told All About Soap: "[Mercy] reveals all about the ransom money Leanne and Will stole from Browning, and says that Will has made up the story about his aneurysm.

"Suddenly it dawns on Texas - where has all this money come from? And how does Mercedes even know about Will's illness? Her head's in a spin.

"She goes upstairs at the venue and finds the stash of stolen cash, and that's when she realises that Leanne's been lying to her. They have a big spat, but Texas also has fights with Dodger, Mercedes and Will. And then one of these arguments turns violent and Texas falls through the window."

The actress confirmed that viewers won't see who pushes Texas.

'Hollyoaks' Nikki Sanderson: 'Maxine future is exciting'

Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has said that the show's bosses are lining up an "exciting summer" for her character Maxine Minniver.

The actress hinted that Maxine's relationship with Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) could be taking centre stage as the unlikely pair continue to grow closer.

Sanderson told All About Soap: "It's a very interesting coupling, because they're complete polar opposites.

"The jury is still out on Patrick - people are trying to judge who he is and just what he really wants from Maxine. It's going to be an exciting summer for my character, and I can't wait!"

In the meantime, next week's episodes see Maxine become unsure of Patrick's motivations when he buys her sister Mitzeee's flat.

Sanderson explained: "She's not happy at all, because he's bought it from under her. Maxine is quite a proud person - she isn't the brightest spark, but she's someone who'd want to do that for herself.

"Maxine feels like Patrick is taking control - and being such a strong, independent woman, of course this sort of behaviour would annoy her."

Keen to keep Maxine interested by making her jealous, Patrick arranges for her to find him in a compromising position with Cindy Longford. However, his efforts backfire badly when a heartbroken Maxine heads to Chez Chez and collapses after drinking a beer spiked with drugs.


Good because I like Maxine and think that Nikki Sanderson is fab:). The Patrick thing sounds interesting, although we all know about his dark side.

Hollyoaks actress Mandip Gill recently caught up with Digital Spy to tell us about Phoebe McQueen's upcoming romance with newcomer Vincent.

Here, though, we present some bonus Soap Scoop snippets from Mandip about being part of the McQueen family and whether last year's trafficking storyline should be revisited.

As Mandip, how do you feel about being part of Hollyoaks' best-known family?
"Absolutely chuffed! I used to watch Hollyoaks before I joined the show, and I always loved the McQueens. To be part of that now is just brilliant. They're such great characters and they work so well together, so I can't think of any other family that I'd want to be in."

Is there more coming up for Phoebe and George?
"Absolutely. They're going to go through a lot, but fingers crossed they'll stay close. We've seen them go through a lot already, and Phoebe's journey in the show has been with George. I'd hate for that to end now, even if we might go through a little rough patch…"

Do you hope Phoebe keeps her outspoken side?
"Definitely. I love playing this character. She's so different to me, and I'd never have the chance to say some of the things that she says! Phoebe is also a lot younger than me, so I get away with saying a lot more that I wouldn't say in real life!

"If we got rid of that outspoken side, it would be a big part of her personality that we'd lose."

Earlier this year, we saw that Browning's boss at the hospital was involved in last year's Deena situation. Would you like this to be explored more?
"Definitely. I think there needs to be a time where something big does happen, and people are punished for what they did to Phoebe and George. The viewers need to see a conclusion to this story.

"I think it would also help Phoebe and George to move on. Obviously it will never totally leave them, but at the moment they're constantly reminded of it and we haven't seen anyone be convicted for what they've done. I think the audience needs to see that there are consequences for people like this."

How would you sum up your time at Hollyoaks so far?
"It's been absolutely brilliant. I've had such a great time and I've learned so much, but it really doesn't feel like work. I'm so grateful for this job and I know I'm so lucky."

What do you make of the recent changes to the show?
"I think they're great and it's all starting to fall into place. I know that we've got a lot coming up in the summer and we'll be going onto bigger and better things, so I'm really looking forward to that."

What kind of a viewer response do you see to Phoebe these days?
"It's really, really positive and I'm so lucky with that. I might get the odd little negative comment, but as a whole, I think that everyone has really enjoyed watching Phoebe and George together.

"The viewers also seem to like that Phoebe is really gobby with the McQueens. I know that people really appreciated the relationship between Phoebe and Jacqui, and with Myra now taking on a motherly role with Phoebe, I really hope people will take to that as well."

Hollyoaks kicks off a romance storyline for Phoebe McQueen next week as she realises that she has feelings for Vincent Elegba.

How do you feel about Phoebe getting a love interest?
"I'm quite excited! It's been a long time coming, and I know that a lot of viewers have wanted it to happen. It's going to be great working closely with another person.

"Also, after working a lot with Steven Roberts who plays George, I'm interested to see how Phoebe and George's friendship is going to be affected by Vincent coming into the show."

Do you think Phoebe and Vincent are going to be a good match?
"Well, they've got a lot of things in common and I think there's instant chemistry there. The only issue is that we don't really know much about Vincent, but from an initial point of view, they could work well together."

In next week's episodes, Phoebe spots Vincent outside College Coffee. Is she surprised to see that he's still in the area?
"Absolutely. I suppose Phoebe didn't expect to ever see him again - she had no idea where he was going to go. When Phoebe sees Vincent again, she's actually just had a mini-makeover because George is trying to take her to a party. She's really shocked that he's in the village."

Later in the week, Phoebe sees Vincent take control when Maxine collapses at Chez Chez. How does she feel then?
"Phoebe just really admires him. Vincent takes the lead straight away, and Phoebe is just smitten - this is the only guy that she's ever liked. It's great to see him just take control, as he helps Maxine, gets her into the recovery position and waits for the ambulance.

"As the ambulance and the police arrive at the club, Phoebe realises that Vincent could actually be arrested and deported. So then Phoebe is scared and she realises that she needs to get Vincent out of the village."

What happens next?
"Phoebe takes Vincent back to the McQueens' just to give him some money, so that he can get back on a train to Newcastle. What's interesting is that Phoebe knew she liked Vincent, but once she's in the comfort of the McQueens', she realises just how much she likes him.

"Phoebe also starts to wonder whether Vincent could stay and whether he really needs to run away. As she's handing him the money, she asks him to stay in the village, hoping that he'll agree."

Is Vincent slightly wary of Phoebe's help, or is he accepting of her straight away?
"I think the only thing Vincent is wary of is that he could get Phoebe into trouble. He knows that Phoebe is a nice person and wouldn't get him into any bother, but he's also reluctant to get her involved in this situation. Vincent knows how much of a big deal it is that he's here in the country illegally.

"They actually go on to form a really nice friendship, just as Phoebe did with George when she found him on the streets."

Does Phoebe confide in Vincent about her own time as a runaway?
"Yes, she does. She tells him about her time on the streets, and I think that might be a way to make him more comfortable with her. They've been through some similar experiences, so I think this is a big part of their connection. They can relate to each other."

How are you finding working with John, who's playing Vincent?
"It's brilliant - we get on really well and we have a laugh. We've got a lot of stuff coming up, too.

"I feel like Claire Cooper helped me to learn new things when I joined Hollyoaks and I'm now able to pass those things onto John. I've only been here for 18 months, but I've learned a great deal from working with Claire, Steven and Nicole Barber-Lane, who plays Myra.

As Vincent is in the country illegally, do you think Phoebe could be asking for trouble with this romance?
"Well, it is Hollyoaks so nothing is going to be straightforward!"

What was it like to say goodbye to Claire when she bowed out as Jacqui recently?
"I knew that I'd see Claire outside of the show, so in that respect it wasn't too bad. But at the same time, Claire has taught me so much and we've shared so many scenes together. In that respect, it was really emotional to do. A lot of the emotion in those scenes last week was real, because I was saying goodbye to a friend and a colleague.

"As for Phoebe, it's like her 'mum' has gone again and it's a really big deal. She really trusted Jacqui, but she fully appreciates and understands that she had to leave. Phoebe doesn't hate Jacqui for it and she knows that she'll be looked after at the McQueens'."

Do you think Phoebe will fit in well at the McQueen house?
"There have been times when Phoebe has felt like an outsider at the McQueens', but they've always made the effort to bring her back in again.

"You'll see that Myra starts to take Phoebe under her wing and looks after her, so there's a nice little friendship that's formed there. I think Phoebe will be fine and she'll fit in. She'll have her ups and downs, but it'll be nothing like before when she was threatening to leave. Hopefully those days are behind her and she feels comfortable now."

Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard has hinted that Tony's feelings for Diane could develop.

Tony and Diane will be thrown into more jeopardy when they discover they are having twins. Diane is unaware that Tony has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Speaking to Inside Soap about Tony's relationship with Diane, Pickard said: "I think there is a sense of responsibility there. He opens his home to them because it is the right thing to do.

"It may not necessarily be what he wants at the time, but he still does it! Hopefully from this point onwards, he and Diane might even be able to make something blossom out of these circumstances."

Pickard also reveals that Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) will be a great support to Tony in his hour of need.

"We're filming the operation scenes at the moment, and it's interesting finding out how this affects other characters.

"Tony confides in Darren initially, and although they've had a love-hate relationship in the past, Darren's still supportive.

"I've got some great stuff with Ashley Taylor Dawson and also Steph Waring - even Cindy comes out of the woodwork! All these people really do care about Tony and are by his side."


This storyline will be sad, but I am strangely looking forward to it because the acting will be good and it involves some classic HO characters.

'Hollyoaks': Charlie Clapham teases Freddie Roscoe arrival

Hollyoaks fans are about to meet the second member of the Roscoe family as Robbie's older brother Freddie joins the village.

Freddie seems determined to get Robbie back in line following his latest bad behaviour, but it later becomes clear that the newcomer has a dark side of his own when he strikes up a drugs deal with Ste Hay.

Digital Spy recently chatted to Charlie Clapham, who plays Freddie, for a two-part interview about his character's arrival.

How are you finding your time at Hollyoaks so far?
"It's very enjoyable and Hollyoaks is a great place to work. I'm getting along well with the guys who are playing my on-screen brothers, who I live with as well. It's great to leave a 9-5 job behind and be able to say that this is where I work now! It's brilliant to live in Liverpool as well, because it's a beautiful city. I'm enjoying it immensely."

What was the audition process like?
"The audition process was crazy! It was really weird, because at first I didn't know that I had an audition, but I knew of about 25 other actors who were going up for it.

"I then had a call from my agent asking if I'd like to go up for it as well, and I jumped at the chance. When I heard the brief, I found out that Hollyoaks were putting together a family of brothers and they were casting all over the UK, so it really was like a golden ticket."

What happened next?
"When I saw the prep that was going into this family, I knew that whoever got the Roscoe roles would be very lucky, as it's a pretty sweet job. I read for a few different parts and I really wanted one of them. Fortunately, I ended up getting that one.

"It was a long process, though, as I had a couple of auditions in London and a couple in Liverpool, as well as a final screen test. That was just before Christmas and it was very nerve-wracking.

"In the end, you just really want a phone call to say yes or no, as you're starting to dream about what life would be like if you got the part. I was looking at the New Year thinking, 'I don't know what 2013 is going to be like!'

"It was a great feeling when I finally got the call to say that I'd been successful. I was in the hairdressers at the time and I ran out dancing down the street, right up to my mum and gave her a big hug! It was great."

What can we expect from Freddie?
"Freddie, for me, is very intriguing. I like Freddie and if he was a real guy, I'd definitely be his mate. He's quite an exciting character and he's always got a different viewpoint on things compared to everyone else.

"Freddie is always looking for an opportunity, always thinking and always calculating. To play that is great, because there's never a dull moment. There's so much for Freddie to do and for him to walk right into. It's a pleasure playing him."

How old is Freddie?
"Freddie is in his mid-20s, he's about 26. I've always played a little bit older than myself when I've gone for auditions or been in films or plays.

"The weirdest thing is that one of my friends I'm living with is playing Freddie's younger brother Ziggy Roscoe, but he's actually nine years older than me in real life! So when I'm giving him little slaps on the back of the head in scenes, he can't stand it! (Laughs.) There's a bit of banter there which we can take onto set, which is really nice."

Freddie's first episode sees him have a bit of a confrontation with Robbie. What can you tell us about that?
"The relationship between Freddie and Robbie is a little bit different to the one that Freddie has with his other brothers. Freddie can look at Robbie and see a little bit of himself - the mischievousness, the conniving side, the opportunistic side and the almost hedonistic tendency to seek those rushes in life.

"In this case, Freddie is really just trying to get Robbie out of trouble, keep his face clean and look after him like an older brother should do."

What makes Freddie want to strike up a drug deal with Ste?
"When Freddie meets Ste, there's something that's of interest to him. Ste as a character is very well-placed for Freddie to say, 'Me and you? Yeah, maybe we can do a deal'.

"Things start off a little bit confrontational, but where most people would see a conflict or a burned bridge, Freddie sees a new beginning, a new relationship and a new partnership. Wherever there's money to be made, Freddie is right there!"

Does Freddie have the same nasty edge that Robbie has?
"I think Freddie is slightly more charming than Robbie. Freddie really is just a little further down the line than Robbie is, in terms of the way he's matured.

"Freddie realises that you can't go through life being a tearaway - sometimes you have to make yourself presentable to get what you want. Freddie tries to show that to Robbie at times, but I think even he gets scared of how deep that nasty streak can run in his younger brother."

Are the Roscoes a troubled family or a happy one?
"I think we're a very happy family. The nicest thing to play is that we really do love each other. That's always the first line of thought - they love each other, they help each other and bend over backwards for each other. When one brother sticks his foot in it, the rest will rally round him.

"It's a really nice family with good values and good morals, which is great because it gives you something concrete to focus on when you're thinking about your character. The deal is that these guys have had it tough sometimes - partly through their own doing - but they always try to get through it together. That's the bottom line for the Roscoes!"

Hollyoaks newcomer Charlie Clapham recently chatted to Digital Spy about the arrival of his character Freddie Roscoe.

Freddie's first week on screen also sees him get together with Maxine. Could this go somewhere, or is it more of a one-off?
"This is similar to the Ste situation, in the way that Freddie sees an opportunity and goes for it. It could just be a little fling, but he does try to make it work. You'll have to wait and see if he can pull it off!"

There's lots of excitement surrounding the arrival of the Roscoes. Are you pleased with that, or does it mean some pressure?
"In this business, if there's pressure, that's usually a good sign. When you're wrapped up in the show and getting on with the job, you don't really know what it's like from the outside looking in. It's nice if people are looking forward to seeing us, especially after a company as big as Lime Pictures has given us so much support and there's been so much preparation.

"When we're all sat in our living room playing Xbox after a night out, we're all completely normal, but it's nice to know that all of the years we've been working and practising have paid off. It can be a little bit daunting sometimes, but the support we get is phenomenal.

"We honestly couldn't have asked for any more, especially from the producer, Bryan Kirkwood. We have his number if we ever want to call him and he's taken a hands-on approach every step of the way. I suppose rather than feeling the pressure, I'm just really excited. The most difficult thing has been keeping it quiet and not being able to talk about it to anyone!"

What's it like to work with your on-screen mother Gillian Taylforth, who's a real soap icon?
"It's amazing. She's been working in this game for years and years, and done some of the most groundbreaking scenes in television history. Sometimes I feel that people overlook the scenes and the episodes of soaps that we've seen over the years, which have been so groundbreaking. Gillian was involved in those more than most.

"Gillian is also so nice to work with on set, so it's a blessing to have her around. Most of the Roscoe boys, apart from one of us, haven't been in soap before. If we have any difficult days, Gillian is always there to help. She's so good and I've actually started calling her 'ma' now!"

Who else have you made friends with on set?
"There's quite a few! James Sutton and James Atherton are great guys. Ashley Taylor Dawson and Nick Pickard are also brilliant. The girls are lovely too. Nikki Sanderson is amazing and is the best model human being I've ever seen! She's just immense and she does a lot for charity.

"I really enjoy working with Stephanie Davis and there's a lot of support if I'm in a scene with her. It's actually like that with a lot of people here, and there's a really long list I could go through. Even if you're looking for a personal trainer, Anna Passey has literally just offered to help me find one. I really didn't expect everyone to be so welcoming."

This isn't your first role, so how does Hollyoaks compare to your previous work?
"The last thing I did before Hollyoaks was the film Kick-Ass 2, and before that I was doing some of my own writing along with some plays and shows in the West End.

"Before that, I trained under Paul McNeilly. I didn't really go to a drama college or anything like that - it was just him and he taught me everything. He even taught me a little bit of directing and writing. You can never know too much about the business - it's always helpful."

Is it true that you're a body piercer as well as an actor?
"Yes, that's my family business. My mum, uncle and dad taught me and that's how we pay the bills when I'm not on set."

Have you tempted any of the cast to get any piercings done?
"Well, that's a very interesting issue, actually! I can't really get a lot of people in from the cast, because I think the producers would have something to say about that! (Laughs.) But I've sorted a lot of the crew out with nose rings, some rock bars, some scaffold bars, lip bars - the lot, really! I thought it might be helpful to drop a few freebies in!"


Charlie is a nice guy and Freddie seems an intriguing character, so i'm looking forward to his imminent arrival:).

Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson has admitted he would like to win 'Sexiest Male' at the British Soap Awards for gay people.

The actor, who plays Ste Hay in the soap, admitted he was surprised to make the shortlist in one of six categories chosen by fans.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: "It's a bit of a laugh but being competitive I want Hollyoaks to win as many awards as possible.

"There are two people from Hollyoaks up for the same award, so that will split the vote – people who love Danny (Dodger Savage) will vote for him and people who love me will vote for me, whereas Corrie fans will vote for their own.

"I love Danny to bits. He's better looking than me. But I've got good cheekbones and an all-right face. I'm doing it for all the people who hate going to the gym and love eating crisps, burgers and kebabs, and also for gay people."

Richardson announced that he was gay during an interview on ITV's This Morning in 2010.

'Hollyoaks': Carmel and Mercedes in catfight

Hollyoaks siblings Carmel Valentine and Mercedes Fisher have a public catfight later this month as they clash bitterly over Chez Chez.

The pair become overly involved in the club when their respective partners Jim McGinn (Dan Tetsell) and Doctor Browning (Joseph Thompson) take over the business.

The initial plan is for Jim to be a silent partner at Chez Chez, but a pushy Carmel (Gemma Merna) has other ideas and soon causes problems.

With Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) resenting Carmel's behaviour, a power struggle begins to develop between them. Becoming competitive, they decide to split the club in half for opening night and see who can make the most money.

In typical McQueen fashion, opening night proves to be a chaotic affair as Carmel and Mercedes allow their rivalry to get the better of them and pull each other's hair out!

Hollyoaks bosses have today (May 7) released the first picture of the full Roscoe family.

As previously announced, former EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth is heading up the new clan as Sandy Roscoe, the mother of five sons who are set to ruffle feathers in the village.

Hollyoaks fans have already been introduced to troublemaker Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) and his older brother Freddie (Charlie Clapham), while the rest of the family will be making their arrival on Thursday, May 23.

Sandy is a single mother who will have her work cut out in the village, holding down her own job as a district nurse and trying to keep her sons in control as they run their family garage business, Roscoes' Motor Maintenance.

With a warm and strong personality, Sandy is adored by her boys and will go to extraordinary lengths to protect her family.

Former Emmerdale actor Ayden Callaghan has been cast as Joe Roscoe, the eldest brother who is always looking out for his younger siblings. With old-fashioned values, Joe acts as the patriarch of the Roscoe family.

Fabrizio Santino plays middle son David "Ziggy" Roscoe, a cheeky charmer who is billed as "confident and hilariously vain". Although Ziggy has luck with the ladies, he is known for falling in and out of love very quickly.

Meanwhile, Alfie Browne-Sykes has secured the role of Jason Roscoe, who is Robbie's twin sibling. Jason couldn't be more different from Robbie as he is intelligent, kind-hearted and destined for success. Despite this, he has a strong bond with Robbie and always covers for him when he misbehaves.

Speaking of her return to the soap world, Taylforth commented: "Everyone at Hollyoaks has made all the Roscoe family members feel very welcome and I am really looking forward to the viewers seeing us all on screen for the first time. There is never a dull moment when the Roscoes are around!"

'Hollyoaks' sixth former to be shot in robbery

Hollyoaks sixth former Callum Kane will be rushed to hospital after being shot later this month.

Callum's life hangs in the balance after he is caught up in an armed robbery at Price Slice.

The storyline begins when Callum (Laurie Duncan) finds out that bad boys Robbie Roscoe and Finn O'Connor are planning to steal the local shop's takings.

Callum initially wants to be involved in the risky money-making plan, as his family will be evicted if they don't come up with three months' worth of rent within a week.

The student later pulls out when he discovers that ringleader Robbie (Charlie Wernham) plans to use a gun in the incident. However, when Robbie and Finn go ahead with their plot, a concerned Callum watches on from afar to see how things go.

Things get off to a bad start as Finn (Keith Rice) is shocked to realise that his sister Sinead is the employee on duty at the shop. With Robbie and Finn both wearing balaclavas, Sinead has no idea that she is being held up by her own brother.

Stephanie Davis, who plays Sinead, told All About Soap: "Sinead thinks she's going to die, especially when Robbie gets rough with her, demanding that she opens the till."

Events then take a terrifying turn when Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) heads into the shop with his baby son Oscar, unaware of the frightening situation taking place inside.

Realising it's time to intervene, Callum rushes into Price Slice and tries to wrestle the gun from Robbie, but is left seriously injured when he is shot in the struggle.

As Finn and Robbie flee the scene, Callum needs emergency medical attention and is rushed off in an ambulance, leaving the Kanes distraught as they could be about to lose him.

With Sinead needing to get comfortable somewhere, a supportive Esther guides her over to a burnt-out car, before helping to deliver the baby.

The dramatic scenes could bring Sinead and Esther closer together again after they were at the centre of a dark bullying storyline a few months ago.

Stephanie Davis, who plays Sinead, told All About Soap: "Sinead really isn't prepared and Esther's being quite tough. Sinead keeps saying, 'I can't do this - I give up', and Esther gives her a big whack across the face!

"She yells at Esther, 'That's what you've always wanted to do, isn't it?' and she replies, 'Yes it is, now push!' That's when Sinead and Esther begin to bond."

Once Sinead's baby daughter has been delivered, she begins to reconsider her decision to give up the youngster to stepmum Diane.

Davis added: "The baby isn't breathing at first. Finn rings for an ambulance, and poor Sinead is beside herself. She always said that she didn't want this kid, but the minute she's born, Sinead's maternal instincts kick in."

I am personally enjoying it, even though there has been somethings I have criticised.

I loved how everyone turned and watched her fall for about half an hour when in reality as soon as they hear the glass smash and turned she'd have hit the floor.

I bet it was all of the suspects together, each holding a limb, swinging her around the room before tossing her through the window. It's the only explanation I can think of as to how she was pushed with such force to break the glass and fly cleanly through the gap. :laugh:

'Hollyoaks': Karen Hassan films new Lynsey Nolan scenes

Former Hollyoaks star Karen Hassan has been filming new scenes for the soap, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The actress's character Lynsey Nolan was killed off in a shocking plot twist last year, but will reappear on screen for a handful of scenes in the summer.

While Lynsey won't be making a full-blown return from the dead, insiders suggest that she will be seen as a vision or a ghost in a new storyline.

Lynsey's reappearance is likely to tie in with a new plot for her killer Doctor Browning (Joseph Thompson), who begins to feel uneasy when his fiancée Mercedes Fisher (Jennifer Metcalfe) books their wedding for the first anniversary of Lynsey's murder.

A Hollyoaks source told Digital Spy: "Lynsey was one of our most popular characters, so it's been great to have Karen back on set again.

"The producers are keeping tight-lipped about the exact reasons for her return, but with the first anniversary of Lynsey's death approaching, it's very likely that Browning will be involved."

Lynsey's murder last summer was one of Hollyoaks' most shocking moments ever, as producers kept Hassan's departure completely under wraps until her exit episode aired.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the time, Hassan commented: "I just wish everybody all the best and I'm going to miss everyone. There's a few people who I'm sure I'll still see every week and stay friends with them. You never know, Hollyoaks do bring people back as ghosts every now and again, so maybe it isn't the final farewell!"

Hassan will also soon be seen in BBC Two's new serial killer drama The Fall, which begins on Monday (May 13).

'Hollyoaks' Gillian Taylforth: 'I accepted Sandy role straight away'

Hollyoaks' new recruit Gillian Taylforth has revealed that she only had one day to make her final decision on whether to join the soap.

The former EastEnders actress has signed up for the role of Sandy Roscoe, who settles into the village alongside her five sons later this month.

Taylforth was preparing for her Celebrity Big Brother stint when she was in final discussions with Hollyoaks bosses a few months ago.

She told All About Soap: "I went to see the casting director last year around August time, and then in December they offered me the part.

"They needed to know my answer that day, though, because I was going into the Celebrity Big Brother house, so I wasn't going to be available for anyone to talk to. I had to make a decision there and then, and I said, 'Brilliant - lovely!'"

Taylforth added that she is expecting the Roscoes to have "lots of drama" ahead in the village.

She said: "I certainly think there will be with these five boys. They're quite handsome too, so there'll be lots of girls involved. Although none of the girls will be good enough for my sons, I tell ya!
