Hollyoaks delivered yet another shocking storyline twist in its latest episode as Darren Osborne was revealed as Sandy Roscoe's secret son.

Fans had suspected for a while that Darren's father Jack (Jimmy McKenna) had a connection to the Roscoe clan, but few will have guessed the real bombshell which now threatens to tear both families apart.

Ashley Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren, caught up with Digital Spy today (September 23) for an exclusive chat about the big twist, the repercussions for Darren, and his life off-screen as he competes on Strictly Come Dancing and prepares to become a father again.

How do you feel about Darren being Sandy's son?
"When I found out about this storyline, I thought it was fantastic. I was buzzing because it's such a massive reveal. The writers set it up so that it looked like Joe was Jack's son, and I think they were playing around with the idea for a while - they weren't sure which way they were going to take the storyline.

"Once it was confirmed that Darren would be Sandy's son, I thought it was great. It's fantastic as an actor to have such a big storyline, and it's going to turn Darren's whole world upside down because his whole life has been a lie. The scripts are some of the best ones that I've had for a long time."

When were you told for definite which way it was going?
"It was a couple of months beforehand - we've known for quite a while. We did some scenes where we first met the Roscoes, and then they finalised the idea afterwards. As Jack already knew Sandy, if you look back now, you'll see little details that we put in which hinted at the massive secret.

"Once the writers had made their decision, we were called in for a meeting and told to have it in our minds for the scenes we were playing. It was all quite subtle at first, but obviously it's now all come to a head with the big reveal at the pub."

Hollyoaks is becoming known for keeping its biggest storyline twists under wraps. Is it hard to keep those secrets?
"It is hard, because obviously there are spoilers that go out for the show. I was very passionate about keeping this a secret and not giving any teasers beforehand. The writers have done a great job with the storyline because they've sent everyone up the wrong path, thinking that Joe must have been Jack's son. Nobody was expecting Darren to be Sandy's son and I think it's more special for the viewers when these things are a genuine surprise."

The episode aired on E4 on Friday, so has there been a big reaction from the fans?
"Definitely. Twitter has gone mad and everyone is shocked about it! It's also great that they can now see the repercussions of everything that's happened.

"Tuesday's episode is a special one, as there are only five or six people in it. It was great to have long scenes which could breathe. With so much going on in the show, we're usually cutting from one thing to another. These scenes were a bit more like ones in a drama which would air in a later timeslot. It was fantastic to get that opportunity while playing out this new storyline. I went over to Jimmy's the night before we filmed it so we could really go through those scenes together."

Can Darren forgive Jack for lying to him?
"Darren has already had a tough couple of years, and he's had problems with his dad in the past. He found it hard to love his dad, because he felt that Jack hadn't really looked after him. It's been a long road for them, but they've become closer recently and they got to a point where they could confide in each other.

"Darren now knows that his dad has been lying to him for his whole life. You can only imagine what that does to someone - it ruins them. It's going to take a long time for Darren to forgive Jack for that."

Are you excited to now have five new half-brothers in the show?
"Yes! This is the thing - Darren hasn't really seen eye-to-eye with the Roscoes from the beginning. He doesn't get on well with Sandy either, as we've just seen when he called her a slag! With the boys, Darren's had fights with Joe before and he dragged Jason into the pub over the Price Slice robbery. He's more or less fallen out with all of them, so the family he's taking on board is one he despises and has no respect for! The repercussions are hard to swallow for Darren."

How do you feel about Darren turning against Nancy recently?
"From Darren's point of view, everything he's doing is the right thing. He's trying to be a father, he's trying to be a family man and he's trying to be fair with everyone. As far as Darren can see, Sienna was beaten up, Nancy did run away from the police with the kids, she did end up on the edge of a building, and he has seen her taking drugs.

"The viewers see the other side, but Darren thinks that Nancy has lost the plot. It's very hard for him to take that, because he obviously loves her and they've got so much history together. He's trying to rebuild his life with Sienna, who seemingly does nothing but care for him. However, he is very conscious of the fact that if Sienna wasn't telling him she's pregnant, he wouldn't be with her."

We're hearing that October will be a massive month for Hollyoaks as the show turns 18. Will you be involved in that?
"Yes! It's a lovely milestone for Hollyoaks and it's done so well over the years. Right now the scripts are brilliant, we have a talented cast and it's nice to see that the viewing figures are going up. We've got relentless drama and relentless storylines, so I'm proud to be here."

How's everything going with Strictly Come Dancing?
"It's been an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. Obviously I've got a baby on the way who is due this Thursday, and that's the day I travel to London ahead of the first live shows on Friday and Saturday. Everybody at Strictly is wonderful and to be part of something so huge is quite overwhelming. The dancing has been going alright, but it's a completely new ball park and I'm out of my comfort zone. I'm enjoying every minute of it, though.

"I keep saying at the moment that I've got three 'problems' - I'm in work full-time, I'm doing Strictly and we're expecting a new baby. They're wonderful problems to have, but they seem like they're tearing my world apart! I just feel very lucky at the moment and my fiancée is my hero, because she's dealing with this while she's pregnant. I'm very proud of her as well."

Will Hollyoaks give you a lighter workload to help you out with Strictly training?
"They can't, because when the Strictly call came in, my fate as Darren and all of my storylines had already been decided! But like I say, it's a wonderful position to be in. I'm so happy at Hollyoaks, it's fantastic to be part of Strictly, and to have a baby on the way is amazing. I wouldn't want it any other way."


Darren's behaviour is all over the place atm, but I still like him and Ashley is brilliant playing all sides to his character. Not long to go before Ashley is a dad for the second time and he starts the SCD live shows, plus working full time at HO as well it is a busy time!

Hollyoaks are the best soap when it comes to trailers IMO, so modern and in general the whole show is with the current times.

The other three soaps seem to lack bravery in that sense sometimes, where as HO go in with no fear when it comes to their storylines!

Hollyoaks airs its biggest stunt of the year later this month as a deadly explosion tears through the village's council flats.

The tragic incident takes place as newly-reunited couple Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Doug Carter (PJ Brennan) are holding a leaving party, having decided to depart the village for a fresh start elsewhere.

Before attending the gathering, Ste's flatmate Sinead O'Connor (Stephanie Davis) goes to The Loft to see evil Trevor Royle and steals a bag from him, believing that it's stuffed full of cash.

In reality, Sinead is making a terrible mistake as the bag actually contains a bomb, which she carries straight into Ste's home.

Soon afterwards, Ste and Doug's happy event takes a terrifying turn as Sinead opens the stolen bag and it explodes, tearing through the flat and causing total devastation for the people inside…

The explosion also tears into the Kanes' home, which adds to the list of potential casualties.

Ste, Doug, Sinead, Will, Ash, Dodger, Dennis and Darren will be among the characters in danger as the dramatic storyline plays out.

After the devastating blast, Doug is one of the first to regain consciousness and springs into action to help save Ste and Sinead, but will any of them make it out alive?

'Hollyoaks' to kill off seven characters in dramatic storylines

Hollyoaks will kill off five main characters in next week's dramatic episodes, while the new Hollyoaks Later series will feature two other deaths, Digital Spy can confirm.

Show bosses have lined up some of the biggest storylines in Hollyoaks history to help celebrate the programme's 18th birthday in style.

As previously reported, a huge explosion will rock the village's council flats next week after Sinead O'Connor accidentally brings a bomb into Ste Hay and Doug Carter's leaving party.

Sinead thinks that she has stolen a bag full of cash from local bad boy Trevor Royle, but in reality it contains a ticking timebomb which will cause devastation in the village.

The explosive device is in the bag as superbitch Clare Devine has escaped from prison and is plotting to blow up The Loft while Mercedes McQueen celebrates her 30th birthday inside.

As the situation comes to a head, ruthless Clare wrestles over the detonator with Trevor, who tries his best to calm her down and warns that people will die if she presses it.

The main characters in danger will include Mercedes, Carmel, John Paul, Theresa, Clare, Trevor, Ste, Doug, Sinead, Leanne, Dennis and Darren.

Ash, Dodger and killer Will are also in trouble as the blast impacts on the nearby Kane family home.

With five characters set to lose their lives next week, some will die in the council flat stunt, while others are expected to meet tragic fates in other circumstances.

Meanwhile, the new series of Hollyoaks Later will also include some shocking twists.

Digital Spy can reveal that there will be two deaths in the after-dark series, bringing the total number of casualties this fortnight to seven.

Show chiefs have also launched an official Hollyoaks Tumblr page which will provide exclusive gossip on the possible victims of the Blast storyline as the story unfolds.

'Hollyoaks' boss reveals new character, Theresa future, bullying plot

Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood has promised to introduce a new "mega-bitch" character to the soap.

The show's executive producer revealed that the new arrival will be the ultimate mastermind responsible for Trevor Royle and Fraser Black's dodgy activities.

Kirkwood told Inside Soap: "Obviously we lost Brendan as our villain-in-chief, and we knew whoever came in next had a big job on their hands. So we played a longer game.

"We drip-fed Trevor in gently and hinted at there being a bigger boss out there. We knew that would be Clare Devine's dad - but the real mastermind of that clan is still yet to make her appearance. That is something I'm very excited about - we're going to meet a new mega-bitch!"

Kirkwood also teased that a future storyline could see Theresa McQueen finally face some punishment for killing Calvin Valentine in 2010.

He explained: "I think, with hindsight, it's felt slightly uncomfortable having Browning, Will and Theresa in the village at the same time. So all three of those characters will be meeting very different kinds of justice in the coming months.

"We do need more romance and teen stories to balance out the big crazy plots. I'm a huge fan of both, but I think we need to find a slightly better balance.

"I can't say too much, but Theresa's got away with murder for years now, so it's time we put the spotlight back on that."

Meanwhile, John Paul McQueen and Danny Lomax will be involved in one of Hollyoaks' biggest storylines of the next few months.

Kirkwood said: "[Ste and John Paul] will discover all of Danny's secrets, not just the fact that Danny is Ste's dad. But that's only the start.

"JP has made mistakes with this relationship and they've spilled over into school life. We'll be telling quite a serious story about homophobic bullying. Those mistakes will come back to haunt him."

There has been some Leanne scenes recently, i.e. looking after the kids being funny, doing all the wedding stuff for Dennis. Which usually happens before a death

Doug is a definite as his death will proliuge Danny/Ste's storyline, as he knows the secret, this stuff usually happens if someone is about to reveal a secret, they end up dead

'Hollyoaks': Jorgie Porter quits Theresa McQueen role

Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has announced that she is leaving the show.

The actress, who has played Theresa McQueen for five years, will bow out of the Channel 4 soap at the end of her current contract.

Confirming her decision, Porter told the Daily Star Sunday: "I've loved playing Theresa and of course being a McQueen. I've been so lucky to have been given some amazing storylines over the last five years.

"I start to feel a little emotional when I think about leaving but the time is right for me to move on. I've still got a while to go yet so there'll be plenty more mischief from Theresa over the next few months."

Theresa's exit storyline will see her finally "face the consequences" of killing Calvin Valentine back in 2010. However, the door is being left open and Digital Spy understands that Porter is expected to return after a break.

A rocky year for the McQueens has already seen fan favourites Claire Cooper and Nicole Barber-Lane depart their respective roles as Jacqui and Myra.

Porter is expected to film her final scenes later in the year.

Hollyoaks airs some of its biggest episodes of the year this week as a bomb explodes during Ste Hay and Doug Carter's leaving party at the council flats.

The tragedy takes place after Ste's friend and flatmate Sinead O'Connor (Stephanie Davis) accidentally brings a bag containing the explosive device into the building.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste, to hear all the gossip on the highly-anticipated episodes.

What were these explosion scenes like to film?
"When you're doing a stunt, for safety reasons you often have to use stuntmen. What's great about this story, and the beauty of it, is that each cast member is doing their own stunt in the explosion scene. You're going to see each of their faces in order to show what happens in the middle of a bomb.

"The story has got to have heart and everything like that, but we also want to show a beautiful stunt. The only way to do that and make it realistic is to have the actors there doing it for real. Each characters' reaction and experience is shown in slo-mo. You'll see a lot of danger - it's great!"

Some of the scenes were filmed away from the usual set, weren't they?
"Yes. Because Ste's flat is a real building and not just a set, it could never really be done on the usual Hollyoaks set. A replica set had to get knocked up and built in Manchester.

"It was actually a little bit strange to be 30-odd miles away from the genuine set. It melted my head a little bit, because at times I was filming in Ste's flat and thinking I was in Liverpool, and then I stepped outside and I was in Manchester! (Laughs.)"

When we paid a visit to the Hollyoaks set recently, it was strange to see the flat all boarded up and burned out!
"Well, that's a sad thing as well. For me, I've spent the best part of seven years filming in there every single day. I got to know every nook and cranny, but now I'm not going to be there anymore, so it was a bit surreal and emotional to be saying goodbye to that and also that part of Ste's life.

"It's where so many of Ste's big life moments have taken place. There's been a lot of happiness there but also a lot of doom, so it's actually quite fitting that it's the place where lots of loved characters will be taking their last breath!"

Before this all kicks off, Ste is planning to leave the village with Doug. Is he confident this is the right choice for him?
"I think so. Ste's had a very heavy time this year with everything he's had to deal with, and recently it's continued with getting a suspended sentence and Leah running away, when she found out about Pauline's assisted suicide.

"It just seems to be one thing after another, so Ste thinks that if he stays in the village, his life is just going to spiral completely out of control. Why stay in the village when they can have a good time living it up around the world?"

Does Ste really love Doug?
"I know lots of the fans will say it's not genuine love as Brendan is Ste's genuine love. I can say, hand on heart, that Brendan is the true love of Ste's life, but people need to stop giving Doug a bit of a hard time as well.

"You can't forget that this guy's actually been there for Ste all the time, no matter what Ste's put him through. Doug's always stuck by him, and Ste doesn't have anyone else at this point in his life. Doug is the only one showing him any affection and true love. Even though a lot of the audience don't want it, you've got to think about what's best for Ste at this point, and Doug definitely is."

How do you think the stunt compares to previous ones Hollyoaks have done?
"The bus crash at the wedding last year was so sensational and even filming it took your breath away. Watching it when it went out live was like watching a music video, as everything was so artistically done and beautiful. To win an award for that at the British Soap Awards was incredible.

"The other soaps had to sit back and watch Hollyoaks win that this year, so in my head, I knew that they'd all pull their socks up to be better next year. Everyone always wants to win the 'Spectacular Scene' prize, so I knew that we'd have to be even better than they're going to be! I've watched clips of the explosion and I can safely say that we're in with a good chance again."

Is Ste in a lot of danger?
"Well, the regular viewers will know that the council flat is very small. The bomb is in the kitchen, which isn't really divided from the living room, where most of the characters are, so everyone at the leaving party is in danger. Sinead is particularly close to the bomb - extremely close in fact!

"Upstairs there are more characters because loveable Dodger, crazy Will and his girlfriend Ash are all in the Kanes' flat. There's definitely going to be tragedy…"

Most of our readers will know that Hollyoaks have decided to bring in three sisters for Ste. How do you feel about the producers showing that commitment to your character?
"There's immense pressure. I do watch the show like any other person and I get excited over other storylines, especially when things happen that I didn't know about beforehand.

"When you watch your own performance, you sit back and cringe and question the choices that you've made. I always want to do the best job I can possibly do, and the fact that they're bringing in a full family means that I can't be complacent. I've still got a long way to go yet."

What can we expect from the new family?
"You can't forget the fact that Hollyoaks is a Northern soap, as it's based in Chester. The only Northern family we've had at the heart of the show for many years has been the McQueens. Now we have the Savages and the Roscoes, who are great Southern families, so we did need another Northern family. I'm quite excited because Northerners have got great charm.

"With the things that Kirsty-Leigh [Porter] and Jess [Ellis] are bringing to their characters Leela and Tegan, we've got a bit of comedy coming up. In Leela, there's also a bit of the Jacqui McQueen that's been missing! We've got the innocence of Peri too, and the craziness of the mum and dad as well. There's something there for everybody!"

A lot of the 'Stendan' fans have been saying that Brendan should be mentioned in Ste's scripts more often. Can you see where they're coming from?
"I can definitely see where the audience are coming from. There are Brendan mentions in the show, but they have to be at the right time. If Ste was to mention Brendan in every emotional scene, we wouldn't be able to move Ste forward as a character and move forward as a show. There's no denying that the story was great, it captivated the audience, it was great for the characters and Emmett was probably the best actor I've ever worked with. He's incredible.

"At the same time, for me, I don't want to be stuck in the past and only known for the Ste and Brendan storyline. I've been consciously trying to get away from it a little bit, while also staying true to the story. Brendan was so important in Ste's life, so the mentions have to be at the right moment, rather than just using it to keep the audience happy every now and again. When Ste is at his lowest, that's when there should be mentions of Brendan."

Yes she's a great character but her presence is (we barely even see her anyway), there's no reason for her to stick around now both her kids have died and Lacey left. She was only created to add a backstory for Ash and Kane anyway.

'Hollyoaks': James Atherton confirms Will Savage exit

Hollyoaks star James Atherton has left the soap, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The actor, who plays killer Will Savage, confirmed the news to us on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards 2013.

Atherton has already filmed his final Hollyoaks scenes and his exit storyline will air in the week commencing Monday, November 4.

The dramatic week for the Savages kicks off when they learn that Will's late mother Anna left him an eight-bedroomed house in her will. Viewers know that Will killed Anna in a shock storyline last month.

When Will discovers that his family and other residents of the village are slowly growing suspicious over his true nature, he lures them to his newly-acquired house and holds them all hostage.

Dirk, Dodger, Patrick, Maxine, Sienna and Martha will all feature in the dramatic scenes.

As the action comes to a head, Dodger chases Will up onto the roof and a huge fight between them leads to the two brothers falling from the rooftop and onto the ground below.

Show bosses are keeping tight-lipped over whether Will could die in the incident or if he will be arrested for his crimes.

Atherton joined Hollyoaks in early 2011 but has enjoyed his biggest storylines this year as his previously-geeky character turned to the dark side.

'Hollyoaks': Patrick Blake to make shocking discovery

Hollyoaks viewers can expect fireworks next week as Patrick Blake discovers that his son Dodger Savage has betrayed him.

Regular viewers will know that Dodger (Danny Mac) recently had a one-night stand with Patrick's on-off girlfriend Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson).

Upcoming episodes see Patrick (Jeremy Sheffield) turn detective after realising that Maxine has had a secret termination following her night with a 'mystery man'.

A furious Patrick wastes no time before confronting his son, who is forced to confess all and beg for forgiveness.

The tables turn on Hollyoaks schemer Sienna Blake next week as she is blackmailed over her baby secret.

Sienna, played by Anna Passey, is still pretending to be pregnant as part of her desperate desire to keep hold of boyfriend Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson).

Another difficult situation for Sienna begins when Chloe (Susan Loughnane), the mother of John Paul McQueen's baby son, returns to the village unexpectedly.

Chloe, who is expecting another baby, is once again looking for money from John Paul as she makes her return.

As Chloe is planning to give away her unborn child, Sienna spots an opportunity and offers to double the price that the other couple have agreed to pay for the baby.

Sienna claims that she is asking for a friend, but Chloe quickly sees through her lies and realises that she isn't pregnant at all.

'Hollyoaks' murder cover-up leads to shock split

Lindsey Butterfield is forced to sacrifice her relationship on Hollyoaks next week as the cover-up of Doctor Browning's murder continues.

Upcoming episodes of the Channel 4 soap see Lindsey (Sophie Austin) arouse the suspicions of her fiancé Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan) as she concentrates on keeping herself out of jail.

With Lindsey busy trying to destroy all of the evidence which links Cindy Cunningham, Mercedes McQueen and herself to the crime, it appears to Joe that she is behaving erratically as she keeps disappearing.

When Lindsey and Cindy set off to get rid of Browning's body, they're left startled as Joe suddenly steps out in front of their car and demands an explanation for his partner's secretive behaviour.

The situation then gets much worse as local police officer Sam Lomax (Lizzie Roper) notices the argument and heads towards them. Needing Joe to go away quickly, Lindsey blurts out that she's been sleeping with someone else.

While there is no truth to Lindsey's claims, her relationship naturally hits the rocks.

Hollyoaks favourite Nancy Osborne will be out for revenge when she finally gets her freedom.

Nancy is released from the psychiatric hospital next week and ends up facing no criminal charges after her arch-nemesis Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) reluctantly withdraws the false police statement she made against her.

Sienna backs down as a 'gesture of goodwill' as her partner Darren (Ashley Taylor Dawson) insists on having Nancy around following the worrying disappearance of Tom Cunningham.

Now back on top form, Nancy concentrates on organising a fundraiser to help pay for a private detective to find Tom. However, she also can't resist issuing a warning to scheming Sienna.

Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy, told All About Soap: "Sienna wants thanks for retracting her statement to the police and Nancy does so through gritted teeth - she's decided to play that witch at her own game."

The actress added: "[Sienna's] a little bit frightened. Nancy being together and on top of everything is much more threatening. There's a moment at the fundraiser where Nancy leans in and says to Sienna, 'You should have got rid of me when you had the chance'."

Sienna grows increasingly fearful as it becomes clear that Nancy will stop at nothing to expose her true colours.

Fox explained: "She won't stop until she's proved Sienna is behind it all."

Over the summer, Sienna tried to make Nancy appear unstable in a ruthless desire to steal her life. However, future episodes will see Sienna on the back foot as she finds it more difficult to keep her deception going.

'Hollyoaks': Domestic violence storyline for Maxine, Patrick

Hollyoaks will explore the issue of domestic violence in a new storyline as Patrick Blake starts hitting his girlfriend Maxine Minniver.

Next week's episodes see school headteacher Patrick (Jeremy Sheffield) lash out at Maxine for the first time after discovering that she had a one-night stand with his son Mark 'Dodger' Savage when they were recently separated.

Viewers of the Channel 4 soap have already seen a slow build-up to the shocking moment, as Patrick has often been shown as possessive and controlling in his relationship with Maxine.

Nikki Sanderson, who plays Maxine, told Digital Spy: "I feel very honoured to be part of this storyline, because it's such a serious issue. Obviously there are many people out there who are going through the exact same thing at the moment.

"There are also probably people who are in the beginning stages of it, but don't recognise the signs that it will turn into a domestic violence relationship.

"I'm really honoured that myself and Maxine have been chosen to do this. I hope that me and Jeremy can really do the storyline justice and make it as realistic as possible."

Sanderson has been preparing for the storyline by thoroughly researching the issue, and is hoping that the upcoming scenes will raise awareness among viewers.

She continued: "I'm hoping it will be quite insightful for the audience and people might learn a lot more about domestic violence relationships.

"We've been very subtly brewing this story over the past six months. Up until now, Patrick has lost Maxine her home because he bought the flat that she rented. She's also lost all of her friends, because Patrick has alienated them all.

"She has no financial independence, because Patrick made her quit her job and become a housewife. He's also been encouraging her to change her appearance and how she dresses, so it's been very, very subtle. It's not just an overnight thing. In order to make the story real, it had to take time to build up."

'Hollyoaks' unveils Clare Devine's sister Grace Black

Hollyoaks will introduce Clare Devine's sister Grace Black next month, Digital Spy can confirm.

Actress Tamara Wall has been cast in the role of Grace and has already started filming with the Channel 4 soap.

Grace's introductory storyline will see her desperate to track down Doctor Browning in the aftermath of Clare's untimely death, unaware that he has also been killed.

Last week, viewers saw Browning murder Clare by running her down in his car, before meeting a grisly fate himself as he was killed by his wife Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe).

Mercedes has decided to cover up the incident with help from Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) and Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin).

As Grace launches the search for Browning, she slowly becomes suspicious over the trio's strange behaviour, leaving them concerned that she could discover the truth.

Fans can also expect interesting dynamics as the show reveals how Grace fits in with her father Fraser (Jesse Birdsall) and his henchman Trevor Royle (Greg Wood).

Grace holds some resentment towards Fraser as she knows that Clare was always the apple of his eye. She also has unresolved tension with Trevor, but whether it's love or hate between them remains to be seen.

New recruit Wall may already be familiar to some soap fans as she played the guest role of Martina Quinn on EastEnders in 2011.

'Hollyoaks' Stephanie Waring shocked by Wallis Day exit: 'I wish her luck'

Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring has said that she was surprised when she found out her on-screen daughter Wallis Day was quitting the show.

It was announced earlier this month that Day had decided to leave the show after a year of playing Holly Cunningham and the role has being recast.

Waring, who plays Cindy Cunningham, said to Inside Soap: "It was Wallis's choice to go and my reaction was, 'Are you kidding me? Give it a chance!' But in the end I just had to let her go, and I wish her all the luck in the world.

"And now we have Amanda [Clapham], who I adore already. I hope people give her a chance and don't just see her as a replacement. Amanda is Holly now."

Waring also revealed that she is excited to be involved in her latest storyline, which has involved Cindy, Mercedes and Lindsey covering up the murder of Doctor Browning.

She said: "It's a fantastic storyline. Bryan Kirkwood told me a while ago there'd be something that would connect Cindy, Lindsey and Mercedes.

"Mercedes is one of our high-profile characters, so I knew it would be really good! And then when we found out we'd be killing Doctor Browning, I was thrilled. We couldn't wait to get started.

"They're in shock and terrified of being found out. They each have their own ways of coping and take turns at being the strong one. It's nice for Cindy to have some friends, as she's never really had any before!"

Speaking about the future birth scene now that Cindy has decided to keep Browning's baby, Waring added: "Even though I've done it twice in real life, I'm scared I'm not going to pull it off. There's a lot of pressure for me to be good at it!"

Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox has revealed that she is not sure if her character Nancy Osborne should reunite with estranged husband Darren.

Nancy is released from the psychiatric hospital next week and will be out for revenge on enemy Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), who tried to make her look unstable over the summer.

Fox said to Soaplife: "Part of me thinks that Darren has treated Nancy so badly he doesn't deserve her back, but fans are always stopping me to ask if they will get back together.

"It shows they work well as a couple and I would certainly miss working with my play buddy Ashley [Taylor Dawson] as we do have a lot of fun together."

Fox also admits that Nancy has not returned to try to win Darren back, but is instead focused on her children.
