'Hollyoaks' wedding day disaster

It's the beginning of the end for at least two Hollyoaks characters on Channel 4 this evening (November 14) as the soap's highly-anticipated wedding disaster storyline kicks off.

When the sixth formers decide to hijack Tony's mini-bus to get Ruby and Jono to their Gretna Green wedding, a terrible chain of events unfolds as the brakes on the vehicle are still faulty.

The afternoon takes a dangerous turn when driver Maddie ends up speeding because Esther and Bart are chasing the mini-bus in a car to stop the ceremony from going ahead.

As both vehicles head past Tony, Cindy, Ste and Doug's joint wedding venue, Maddie is horrified to realise the brakes aren't working just when she needs them most - as little Leah suddenly steps out into the road.

When Maddie swerves the mini-bus to avoid Leah but ploughs straight into Ste and the venue instead, numerous characters find themselves in terrible danger - but who will be killed off?

'Hollyoaks': Jeremy Sheffield hints at Patrick surprises

Hollyoaks's new recruit Jeremy Sheffield has teased that his character is much more "complex" than he first appears.

The former Coronation Street and Holby City actor has signed up for the role of Patrick Blake, who is the biological father of established regular Dodger Savage.

Sheffield appeared on Lorraine today (November 14) alongside co-star Nikki Sanderson and hinted that there could be surprises in store involving Patrick.

Describing Patrick, he commented: "I can only tell you a certain amount, I don't want to give it all away. He's nice, he's intelligent, successful. Then there's a whole other side to him which I'm not going to tell you, because that's to be revealed."

Asked what attracted him to Hollyoaks, he replied: "There's a big change with a new producer - Bryan Kirkwood, who's amazing. He was on EastEnders before, Hollyoaks before that and Coronation Street as well, so it's an exciting time.

"But also because of this character - I really can't tell you everything, but he's a very complex character and I've not played anything like it before."

Meanwhile, Sanderson told show host Lorraine Kelly that her character Maxine Minniver is hiding her intelligence.

Sanderson said: "She's fantastic - I absolutely love playing Maxine. She's such a fun character to play because she does so many things that you can't do in real life, so it's great. You get to do it and not get into trouble!

"Even though she's fairly ditzy, I don't think she is actually ditzy - she's one step ahead. She uses that to get ammunition over people, who then think she's not as clever as she is. She's very, very fun to play, but I think she's got that side to her where she is quite selfish."

Maxine made her Hollyoaks debut a few days ago, while Patrick joins screens next week as Dodger finally manages to track him down.

Bart is vile. He was stoned and crashed, so I cannot see him getting away with it if the Police investigate and find out he was the cause.

Hollyoaks are not the best with continuty and the aftermaths of big storylines are normally disappointing.

I miss the student halls being shown, this current group of Freshers started with potential and now they hardly have scenes with each other anymore. Annalise is really likeable and has not had much to do either!

I hope BK improves this again now he is back, in his first reign as Producer the student groups were very strong back then:).

Esther's storyline is apparently going on until the New Year and there have been rumours of attempted suicide.

I would be gutted if they killed her off because Esther has so much potential and Jazmine Franks is good playing her IMO, although in all honesty I think they are aware of the characters popularity and will end this storyline in a good ending for Esther and a comeuppance for her tormenters.

Claire Cooper is amazing:). She seems so committed to the show atm too, which is great. I hope that Jacqui could be one of the characters to stick around for ages and cement their history in the show e.g. Tony, Cindy or Mandy previously.

This depends if Claire of course would want to stay and depending on the storylines, or if she wanted to do other acting roles.

I know she is a marmite character but I am sooo looking forward to Mercedes' trial, loving this new crazy side to her and I think BK will hopefully redeem her, after all he is the one who created that character in his first awesome reign:D.

Hollyoaks star Andrew Moss has admitted Rhys Ashworth’s affair has been a bit of fling for him as well.

The actor - who has been in the soap since 2005 - revealed he has worked with Claire Cooper, who plays Rhys’ wife Jacqui for so long, they are like a comfortable couple together, so working with Stephanie Waring, who plays Cindy Cunningham, is like being with another woman.

Andrew said: “I’ve been working with Claire for two years and me and her spar with each other all the time. She comes up with an idea, I come up with an idea, and it’s great, we’re really comfortable working together and we produce some of our best stuff when we’re together.

“So it was stepping out of my comfort zone working with another lady, because I’ve not had a chance for a while.

“But it was like stepping into old shoes really - it was like getting a bit of the old Rhys back. It’s been a nice change.”

Andy also revealed fans are not happy about Rhys and Cindy’s affair - because they want Rhys and Jacqui to have a happy ending.

He said: “It’s soap, so stories can’t run and run forever. Viewers have been championing Rhys and Jacqui because when they got together it was the odd couple, it shouldn’t have worked. But for some reason it worked.

“So viewers invested heavily in Rhys and Jacqui, so nobody wants Rhys and Cindy together - nobody! So it’s not a nice reaction.

“But if everyone was just happy all the time in soap, how boring would that be?”

Some people questioned why Cheryl was not at the wedding. I think these scenes were filmed a while back and at that time Bronagh Waugh had a bad back, so she had to have time off work to rest and they had to film without her.

I think Annalise was quickly slotted in to replace her!

No, at the time of HO Later filming Bronagh and Emmett were filming The Fall too, so they were very busy between the two shows.

Karen Hassan is in The Fall too, although she had already left HO of course.

I think that Jono will be the final death through internal injuries. He will die a hero, so ironically even though he wanted to be in the army he would have died saving people and I think that this would make Ruby take the departed Maddie's position in tormenting Esther once she finds out about Esther and Bart's involvement?

Hollyoaks' wedding day disaster has claimed the lives of three regular characters on the soap.

Viewers of E4's first look screening discovered the identity of the victims this evening (November 14) following weeks of speculation surrounding the show's heavily-promoted 'Enjoy The Ride' crash storyline.

Rhys Ashworth (Andrew Moss), Maddie Morrison (Scarlett Bowman) and Neil Cooper (Tosin Cole) were the unlucky trio who died after the sixth formers ploughed through Ste, Doug, Tony and Cindy's joint wedding venue in an out-of-control mini-bus.

As one of the passengers in the faulty vehicle, Neil was the first to perish as he was still inside when it exploded following the crash.

Maddie, who had taken the ruthless decision to leave Neil behind in the bus despite knowing he was still alive, was next to meet her maker as she was hit by some falling debris following the explosion.
Rhys, meanwhile, died inside the venue after getting trapped when the roof and a pillar collapsed after the crash.

Although a seriously-injured Rhys was still conscious following the accident, there was not enough time for a fire crew to arrive for his rescue before he passed away with devastated wife Jacqui (Claire Cooper) at his side. Jacqui did not discover Rhys's recent affair with Cindy Longford before his death.

Meanwhile, more devastation could be ahead for the villagers as the official spoiler for the next episode reads: "Just when they thought they were safe, tragedy strikes for one much-loved couple."

Out of the teens I would Keep Callum, Tily, Phoebe and George, the rest can go.

The cast is too big and they dont give new characters any decent storylines or no storylines at all

Hollyoaks aired tragic death scenes for Rhys Ashworth on Channel 4 this evening (November 15) as he lost his life in the soap's mini-bus crash disaster.

Seriously injured and trapped beneath rubble in the aftermath of the accident, Rhys slipped away with distraught wife Jacqui (Claire Cooper) by his side as there was not enough time for a fire crew to arrive to free him.

Andrew Moss, who played the role of Rhys, finished up at Hollyoaks just a few days ago after seven years with the soap. Here, he chats to Digital Spy about his long stint in Chester and why it was time to go.

How do you feel now that your time at Hollyoaks has come to an end?
"I've got mixed emotions about it. I'm really excited to get out now because it's literally the seven-year itch - I'm ready to move on and I would like to do other things. I probably could have stayed there for the rest of my life, and that's because the cast, the crew and everyone in that building are really close.

"Every day going into work there is a pleasure - I'd literally jump out of bed in the morning to go into work. So that's the sad thing, but I do need to move on and experience new roles and challenges, just for myself."

Were you pleased that Rhys was given such a dramatic exit?
"Definitely - that's something that I really do owe them for. I was bandying around that I wanted to leave and it was getting up to the time when I would have to go, and then this stunt came around. I was really keen to be involved, so it all timed really well and I'm very grateful that they've trusted me to do this.

"The big death scene at the end was another first for Hollyoaks, because they left the camera on Rhys and Jacqui for the whole scene and let it play out. Playing that scene was harrowing but lovely, and I owe them big time for trusting me to do it."

On the other hand, is there a part of you that wishes the door had been left open just in case?
"To be honest, I think it's a good thing that the door hasn't been left open. Acting is a precarious profession - you can go from working every day to not having a job for two, three or four months. Because I'm so comfortable at Hollyoaks and I love all the people there, it would just be so easy for me to say, 'Yep, I'm coming back'. So in a way I'm glad that there's no way back, but then again it's Hollyoaks, so never say never!"

Were the tears real in your death scene with Claire Cooper?
"Do you know what? They were absolutely real. Me and Claire work really well together. I know when she's going to speak, I know when she's finished, and I know what rhythm she goes at with the pace of the lines. We can do a scene together really quickly.

"What we decided for the final scene was that we didn't even want to rehearse it. When we read it together a few days before, we both couldn't stop crying. So we didn't want to rehearse it so much that those emotions weren't there anymore. We read it together once, and that was the only time we did until we actually did the scene on the day.

"Filming the death scene was really upsetting, but I think that really added to the emotions you saw on screen. When Rhys was saying, 'I don't want to die, please don't let me die', as an actor I was thinking about my time at Hollyoaks and being really sad to leave. So the emotions were all related to that and they were absolutely real tears!"

Last year Rhys went on a brilliant journey with the rape storyline and was 100% loyal to Jacqui. Were you disappointed that he went on to have an affair this year?
"I won't lie, as an actor I was disappointed over the affair because myself and Claire had worked so hard to make Rhys and Jacqui a strong, believable couple. I'd also put a lot of work into making Rhys a loveable character.

"But with all soaps, things have to happen and they sometimes have to happen quickly. To be able to get this ending, we had to split up Rhys and Jacqui and get the audience to dislike my character again, as upsetting as that was for me!

"I think the affair with Cindy was about escapism for Rhys as it all became too much for him when he found himself married and living at the McQueen house with a 16-year-old to look after. He wasn't ready for all that and it was a struggle for him, so he went back to his old selfish ways. The old Rhys was back!"

Do you think Rhys realised how much he loved Jacqui in his dying moments?
"Totally. What I think is that Rhys will always be in love with Jacqui. If this had all happened when Rhys had grown up a little bit more and he was ready to settle down, there wouldn't be a problem.

"The issue is that Jacqui wanted to nest now - she wanted the house, she wanted to have her adopted child Phoebe and be the matriarch of the McQueens. But Rhys wasn't ready to play that role yet - he didn't want to be a family man or settle down. That's the only way I could justify it when playing the scenes."

When did you finish filming?
"You won't believe this, but I only finished at Hollyoaks last week on November 6! What we do sometimes with these stories is that we'll add things at the last minute to make them even better. They rang me up and told me that they wanted to add even more to it, so I was filming right up until the episodes needed to be sent off to Channel 4."

Was it difficult to keep your departure from the show under wraps?
"In this day and age, it's very hard to keep a secret like this. All it takes is one slip-up on Twitter if you're talking to one of your fellow cast members. That's happened before and it's really upsetting. But I literally went round and told everyone that if anyone gave the game away, I'd go mad! So I think everyone was double-checking all of their tweets to make sure that Rhys's death came as a shock.

"The hardest thing for me is that I haven't been able to let people know that I'm available for work, so it'll be nice now it's finally public so I can get another job!"

Have you had a leaving party yet?
"Yes, we've had my big leaving party. It was disguised as Bronagh's 30th birthday as well, so it was actually a joint party for the two of us. That was why Bronagh arrived with a coffin in tow, to symbolise my passing! It was incredible and I had the best night of my life with some of the best friends that I've ever met."

Who will you stay in touch with?
"I'm not just saying it, I get on well with so many of them. I know for a fact that I'll stay in touch forever with Bronagh, Claire, Jess Forrest and Ashley Taylor Dawson. Ashley looked after me at Hollyoaks because he's been there even longer than me!"

What were your favourite storylines to film?
"I've absolutely loved working with Claire Cooper, and the rape storyline was really harrowing but great to be trusted with.

"My all-time favourite was probably when we did the anorexia storyline, because I think that's when we were at our peak. Myself and Emma Rigby received so many letters at the time, and I really believe that Emma saved people's lives doing that storyline. The writing team put so much research into it, and that was my proudest moment as an actor. I think we did it as well as it could have been done for a 6.30pm show."

What are your future career plans?
"I've worked solidly for ten years now on different shows, literally without any time off apart from a few short holidays here and there. I think I'm ready for a good, long break now so I'm going to maybe go travelling or take a little bit of time out.

"It sounds cheesy and clichéd, but I'd like to find myself again and remind myself of what people do when they don't have to work for 15 hours a day! So I'll have a bit of downtime and then I'm going to plan my career after that. I want to carry on entertaining, so it'll either be acting or maybe more work with my band. I'm toying with a few things at the moment, but you'll always see me somewhere!"

Would you rule out joining another soap?
"Not at all - I'm an actor and I'm not snobby when it comes to work. If somebody offered me a nice role on another soap, I'd definitely consider it. I'm not sure if I'd do it straight away after seven years on Hollyoaks, but I'd never turn my nose up at another soap.

"I want to go into Corrie actually as I only live across the road and loads of my mates work there, so that'd be an ideal job!"

'Hollyoaks' wedding deaths bring 970k to E4

Hollyoaks enjoyed its highest E4 rating of the year so far on Wednesday evening (November 14) as fans tuned in to see the aftermath of the dramatic mini-bus crash, overnight figures show.

970k (4.6%) watched E4's first look screening at 7pm to see who would be killed off in the wedding day disaster, while 168k (0.8%) watched an hour later on E4+1.

Hollyoaks was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day and the figures were up on the 816k who saw Riley Costello's death scenes on E4 last month.

Meanwhile, the crash itself pulled in 1.05m (4.9%) in the traditional 6.30pm slot on Channel 4 and 139k (0.7%) on Channel 4+1.

Hollyoaks aired another shock death on E4 tonight (November 15) as the soap's mini-bus crash disaster led to more tragedy in the village.

Martin 'Jono' Johnson, played by Dylan Llewellyn, became the fourth victim of the accident as he passed away from undetected internal injuries he suffered in the crash.

Jono's final scenes saw him lying peacefully with girlfriend Ruby Button (Anna Shaffer) outside The Dog In The Pond before slipping away.

Writing on Twitter tonight, Llewellyn commented: "No more Curley haired bloke in Hollyoaks! #ripjono"

Fans will remember Jono as a hero as he helped to save most of the other sixth formers who were trapped in the mini-bus after it ploughed into Ste, Doug, Tony and Cindy's joint wedding venue.

The character joined Hollyoaks in June 2011 and his tragic goodbye follows the deaths of Rhys Ashworth, Maddie Morrison and Neil Cooper, who were also victims of the crash drama.

Another big twist airing on E4 tonight saw crash survivor Sinead O'Connor (Stephanie Davis) discover that she is pregnant, but the father may not be on-off boyfriend Bart McQueen after her recent passionate encounter with a mystery man.

Stephanie Waring defends 'Hollyoaks' daughter recasting

Stephanie Waring has defended the recasting of her Hollyoaks character Cindy's daughter.

Fans have taken to Twitter to question the realism of 18-year-old Wallis Day's portrayal of 14-year-old Holly, who returned to screens this week for Cindy and Tony's wedding.

Responding to the criticism, Waring wrote: "For everyone commenting on the new Holly so what if she looks older than 15! A lot of 15 yr olds look like adults these days!

"If they wanted someone that looked like the old holly they would have cast the old holly!"

Holly Cunningham was previously played by Lydia Waters between 2008 and 2010.

Praising the character's reinvention, Waring insisted: "Wallis Day should be congratulated on landing the role not defending how she looks! She is stunning, great actress and a great addition!"

When a viewer pointed out that Holly had "aged a bit", the actress hit back: "Not really, the actress playing her is only 3 years older as was I when I was 18 and played Cindy at 15."

I'm almost certain that Rhys is the father of Sineads baby, because he had that talk with Darren about 'Cheating with somebody' but never mentioned who, also in the letter with Phoebe it was written about him meeting somebody else. So I think people may jump to conclusions and assume it is Sinead. Also Rhys being the father will cause complications, which soaps love.
