:idc:
Yellow warning of snow
From:
1900 on Sat 2 May
To:
1500 on Sun 3 May
Updated 1 hour ago
Heavy rain will spread northeast across Scotland during Saturday night and Sunday, falling as snow down to 300-400 m in places. Accumulations of 10-20 cm are likely, mainly above 400 m but possibly as low as 300 m. Strong easterly winds will result in some drifting.
The public should be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions on higher roads. In addition, conditions are likely to be hazardous for those out on the hills and mountains, whilst heavy rain at lower elevations may lead to surface water on roads.

Scattered thunderstorms are likely to extend northwards across eastern and southeastern areas of England during Friday giving some localised intense downpours. The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding which may lead to disruption to transport and outdoor activities. Frequent lightning could prove to be an additional hazard.

On Friday evening another hot and increasingly humid airmass is expected to spread northwards from the continent. This airmass looks conducive to the development of isolated thunderstorms during the evening across southern and southwest England which are likely to become more frequent overnight as they spread northwards towards Scotland. With large amounts of energy again available in this atmosphere storms could be severe, with torrential downpours, hail and squally gusts of wind. 30 mm of rain is possible in less than an hour, with as much as 50 mm possible in 3 hours very locally.
Large uncertainty remains regarding areas most at risk from storms, and many areas will miss these altogether, staying largely dry. However, where they do develop, disruption is possible. The most likely area for disruption is considered to be Wales, parts of the Midlands and northern (especially northwest) England, but a lesser risk extends around the periphery of this region

Weather Warning
Issued by the Met Office
YELLOW WARNING of RAIN for parts of WESTERN and CENTRAL SCOTLAND
Updated at 10:24 on Thu 16 Jul
Valid from 01:00 on Fri 17 Jul
Valid until 21:00 on Sat 18 Jul
Rain, some heavy and thundery, will move northeast across Scotland during the early hours of Friday. An interlude of drier weather is then expected, before further persistent and occasionally heavy rain develops late Friday and lasts through much of Saturday in places. The heaviest rain seems likely to be focused on northern Argyll and Lochaber.
The rain will be accompanied by strong winds, these turning from southeasterly to southwesterly. Gales are possible for a time later Friday, particularly in the west, with gusts to around 50 mph.
Given that the ground is saturated, the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.

"An area of low pressure is expected to run northeastwards close to southern England clearing on Saturday. Whilst a wet and windy period is expected, particularly in southeast England, there remain large uncertainties in the track and intensity of this low pressure system. More than 20 mm is expected quite widely however, there is a low likelihood that this will be deeper bringing the potential for more than 60 mm of rain in some places as well as gusts of around 50 mph on coasts and 40 mph inland. Were this to occur some disruption, particularly to outdoor activities, would be likely as well as disruption to travel given the large volume of traffic on Friday afternoon. "

A complex area of low pressure is expected to deepen over the Bay of Biscay later today and into Wednesday, before pushing north towards the UK. Rain will arrive into southern areas Wednesday morning, before spreading to the rest of the warning area through Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday. Rain should ease from the south during the day, though some heavy and thundery showers may develop across the southeast and East Anglia through the afternoon and evening.
Most parts of the warning area should see 15-30 mm of rain, however some places could see as much as 40-70 mm. Furthermore, thunderstorms developing across the southeast and East Anglia Wednesday afternoon have the potential to generate 15-25 mm of rain in a few hours.
This is a very complex development, and uncertainty in timings and areas most at risk is large. As such this warning will be updated as confidence in developments increases.

Hurricane Patricia Becomes Strongest Pacific Hurricane in History
Hurricane Patricia became the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Pacific Ocean late Thursday night less than 200 miles from the coast of Mexico, where residents and authorities are rushing to prepare for what will likely be the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall on that country's Pacific coastline.
The National Hurricane Center released a special advisory at 12:30 a.m. CDT Friday saying Patricia's central pressure had dropped to 892 millibars (26.34 inches of mercury), making it by far the lowest pressure ever measured in a Pacific hurricane. NHC estimated Patricia's maximum sustained winds at 185 mph (295 kph), well above the 157-mph minimum threshold required to make it a Category 5 hurricane.
Amazingly, the Air Force Hurricane Hunter reconnaissance mission responsible for those findings has measured even lower pressures and higher wind speeds since then. At 2:03 a.m. CDT, NHC released a data message reporting that an instrument dropped from the aircraft had measured a pressure of 885 millibars at sea level inside the eye, though not in the exact center.
Shortly before that, winds at flight level (roughly 10,000 feet above the ocean) were measured as high as 221 mph (356 kph) in the eyewall, the zone of powerful winds ringing the clear, relatively calm eye. Hurricane specialist Michael Lowry of The Weather Channel said he believes those may be the highest flight level winds ever recorded by the Hurricane Hunters.
Unprecedented Among Pacific Hurricanes
The revisions came shortly after Air Force Hurricane Hunters flew through the eye of Patricia and reported a sea-level pressure of 894 millibars as measured by a dropsonde inside the eye itself. Wind measurements suggested that the pressure measurement was not in the exact center of the eye and was probably not the absolute lowest pressure, prompting NHC to estimate the minimum central pressure at 892 millibars.
Tropical cyclone strength comparisons are typically based on minimum central pressure. At 892 millibars, Patricia has shattered the Eastern Pacific basin's previous record of 902 millibars set by Hurricane Linda in 1997. While a number of typhoons in the western North Pacific have been stronger, Patricia is by far the strongest recorded in the eastern or central North Pacific, where the term "hurricane" applies.

Forecast summary
Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days
UK Outlook for Monday 9 Nov 2015 to Wednesday 18 Nov 2015:
Unsettled weather will dominate across the UK through much of this period, particularly so in northern and western areas where bouts wet and windy weather will be frequent and only briefly interspersed with drier and brighter spells. Further south and east, longer fine and dry periods are expected, although still with occasional wet and windy spells. In any more settled weather there is a risk of overnight fog developing along with some patchy frost. Temperatures are likely to be near to just above average, although with some chilly nights where skies are clear. Later in the period the northwest-southeast variation in the weather described above is likely to re-orientate to more of a north-south split.
UK Outlook for Thursday 19 Nov 2015 to Thursday 3 Dec 2015:
The second half of November and start of December are likely to be characterised by a north-south split in the weather. The north is likely to see periods of wet and windy weather with a risk of gales at times, although with some drier spells are likely too. The south will probably have the greatest amount of dry and fine weather, but even here some rain will pass through at times. Temperatures will generally be around average, although there could be some cold nights where skies become clear leading to a risk of frost and fog.

Going to be quite windy down Josys area tomoz am and anyone in NE England and SE Scotland
"The southwesterly wind is expected to become strong during Monday morning, with gales and locally severe gales over high ground, but also some very gusty winds to the east of high ground as well. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely with a risk of isolated gusts of 65-70 mph in exposed areas of southeast Scotland and the far north of England. "

The first time the MO has named a storm will hit Thurs into Fri
Southwesterly severe gales will develop later on Thursday, increasing storm force for a time as they veer westerly overnight into early Friday. Gusts of 70 to 80 mph are likely, and perhaps 90 mph across exposed locations. Winds will begin to ease and veer more westerly across the Western Isles and the mainland on Friday morning and across the Northern Isles on Friday afternoon.
Lightning associated with frequent showers will be an additional hazard, whilst large waves may lead to over-topping along some coasts and causeways.
The public should be prepared for disruption to transport and perhaps power supplies.

Not for a while but this low Abigail will bring colder weather for all.
I have just been out and about gathering things in like smallest LT's footballs and goalposts as last time they nearly ended up in the river. We have already lost one good ball to the river this month. I have also secured the bins and went down to tell my neighbour to move her car from where she parks it in case she gets a slate through the windscreen
Up in Shetland they will be doing this and much more as its life and death up there when a hoollie like this blows in

Wow... tie everything down LT.
With all the pissing you've done in that river I reckon you owe it at least a football.
I'm looking forward to it getting colder. I hate this mild weather in Autumn.

Gale-force winds will batter southern England and Wales on Tuesday as Storm Barney - the second officially-named UK storm - hits, the Met Office has warned.
Severe weather warnings were issued as the Met Office said gales would sweep eastwards across parts of Wales, southern, central and eastern England on Tuesday afternoon.
Gusts of wind could hit 80mph on the coast, especially in Wales and the Bristol Channel, and reach 60-70 mph inland, bringing the risk of fallen trees and travel disruption.

West to southwesterly gales and locally severe gales are likely to sweep eastwards across parts of Wales, southern, central and eastern England later on Tuesday. Gusts could reach 60-70 mph inland and possibly 80 mph along exposed coasts, particularly Wales and through the Bristol Channel.
Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures.
