Hollyoaks McQueen family cause a scene at The Dog In The Pond next week as they start a massive bar brawl.

All hell breaks loose at the local pub after student Rob Edwards gropes Phoebe Jackson, which doesn't go down well with Jacqui or the rest of the McQueens.

In the gallery below, we take an in-pictures look at the drama that follows - including a behind-the-scenes glimpse of filming.

The McQueens find themselves cooped up in a prison cell together following their outrageous antics, and it's up to Jim McGinn to save them once again.

Jim succeeds in getting them off the hook, but they return home to an empty house as the bailiffs have been!

Hollyoaks airs these scenes on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.

Caught up this week well sorta, feel bad for esther, and Ruby is a bitch, part of me wanted Phoebe to kill ruby so her liver went to Esther lol But that might be a tad drastic

When is someone going to slap that ugly bitch Sinead. Horrid little creature

That Davis guy is wired as well, hope he turns out to be a serial killer and kills Sinead for us

Slightly gutted that the show did not win nothing last night at the NTA's, although right now the show is in a good state currently and ratings are doing well so for me that is more important than an award ceremony:).

]Hollyoaks glamour girl Mitzeee Minniver will discover that she is expecting a baby next month, Digital Spy can confirm.

The storyline begins in early February when Mitzeee and her sister Maxine suspect that they could both be pregnant by the same man following their recent encounters with stripper Tyson.

http://i1.cdnds.net/12/20/300x225/rachel-as-mitzeee-2.jpg

When the pair take pregnancy tests, only one of them turns out to be positive - and viewers soon discover that Mitzeee is the mother-to-be.

The shocks don't end there as Mitzeee later learns that her initial suspicions were wrong - the father is a different man as another surprising discovery proves that Tyson can't be the dad.

Mitzeee's pregnancy builds up to her departure from the show as actress Rachel Shenton recently announced that she had decided to leave the role.

The popular character's exit story sees her agree to help Carl Costello avenge the death of his son Riley - the love of Mitzeee's life - by plotting against rogue undercover cop Walker.

Show bosses have kept tight-lipped over whether there is a happy ending in store for Mitzeee or if Carl's scheme will leave her in danger.

Hollyoaks, meanwhile, attracted 1.28m (5.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 179k (0.8%) on +1 as Esther was left feeling more isolated than ever thanks to Frankie and Ruby. E4's first look secured 797k (3.4%) at 7pm and 107k (0.4%) on +1.

The good ratings continue:).

I have a feeling that Cheryl is leaving:(. With Brendan leaving and I think Seamus will be gone obviously as I reckon his sexual abuse of Brendan will be revealed during Brendan's exit storyline and the fact Nate, the guy who she liked in HO Later is coming back it all makes sense to me...

I would miss Bronagh Waugh though, she is fab playing her and I am sure she will go on to good things.

'Hollyoaks' stars suffer injuries from McQueen brawl scene

Hollyoaks cast members have suffered injuries from filming an upcoming McQueen family fight scene.

Nicole Barber-Lane, who plays Myra in the teen soap, revealed that the stars received bruises and scratches from acting out the brawl.

The scene takes place at The Dog in the Pond, after student Rob Edwards gropes Phoebe Jackson.

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/03/618x411/soaps-hollyoaks-3529-6_1.jpg

It was so much fun. Everyone gets involved and it's going to look so good," Barber-Lane told the Daily Star.

"Everyone really went for it so there were loads of bruises and loads of scratches.

"All the girls thought that the lads were rugby players so really went for it and were whacking them for real - but they were models!"

The McQueens find themselves cooped up in a prison cell together following their outrageous antics, and it's up to Jim McGinn to save them once again.

The Channel 4 serial airs these scenes on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1 at 6.30pm.

Stephanie Waring teases 'Hollyoaks' Cindy romance, job

Stephanie Waring has spoken about her Hollyoaks character Cindy Cunningham's storylines in the coming months.

The 34-year-old actress revealed that her bitchy alter ego is set for a new romance and job in the near future.

http://i2.cdnds.net/12/49/300x225/cindy1.jpg

"I think she gets a new love interest soon, definitely a change in career, that's coming up soon," she told PA.

"I'd like to be the one to create drama, that's what Cindy's all about. And I have my new daughter, she's stunning."

Reflecting on the 17 years that have passed since winning the Cindy role, Waring added: "I've been on it on-and-off since I was 18 and I'm nearly 35. This is my longest stint this time around.

"I just have the security and I just love acting every single day. When you're a working actor you've got to wait for the auditions and you have a lot of downtime.

"But when you're in a soap you're working every single day and I just love it so much."

Exciting stuff coming up for Cindy it seems. I wonder who her new man will be? I am guessing Patrick and intrigued about her new job too.

I am glad that Stephanie Waring is happy at Hollyoaks and with her personal life away from the show too:).

Big spoilers and pictures about the reveal of the bullying!:amazed:

Hollyoaks airs the scenes that fans have been waiting for early next month as the truth about Esther Bloom's bullying ordeal is finally revealed.

Esther (Jazmine Franks) recently made a suicide attempt after Ruby Button and Sinead O'Connor had made her life hell with months of torment, but the twisted pair have so far managed to keep their true colours hidden.

In a week's time, Esther's situation becomes critical in hospital as she desperately needs a new liver within 24 hours. Preparing for the worst, Esther asks Dylan Shaw to help her record a video message which must only be shown if she dies.

Amid the mounting concern for Esther, Ruby (Anna Shaffer) finally starts to feel guilty for her role in causing the dire situation.

Fortunately, a donor is found for Esther, but when she is taken into the operating theatre, the pressure becomes too much for Ruby and she finally reveals everything to the Osbornes, who are shocked to the core by her confession.

Ruby also tries to reveal the truth at the O'Connors', but is thrown out. When John Paul then spots Ruby, he wants to talk to her as he has discovered who the bullies were after seeing Dylan editing Esther's video.

When John Paul chases Ruby, she ends up being knocked over by Jack's car in a dramatic accident. Will she be okay?

Meanwhile, at the O'Connor house, Diane (Alex Fletcher) starts to become suspicious over Sinead's behaviour at last.

Fearing that her stepdaughter could be a bully, Diane decides to search through Sinead's laptop and is horrified to discover evidence of her mistreatment of Esther.

Diane is disgusted with Sinead (Stephanie Davis), but she also fears that this could jeopardise her own job at the sixth form college - especially as Dodger's father Patrick Blake is plotting a zero-tolerance approach to bullying after taking over as headmaster.

With this in mind, will Diane really expose Sinead's terrible behaviour?

New job for Patrick!

Hollyoaks spoiler: Patrick becomes the new headmaster of the local college.

http://www.soapsquawk.co.uk/media/2012/october/8719889D096867A25C288DCD2A67.jpg

We can reveal that he is going to be hired as the new headmaster of the local college and will be instrumental in bringing an end to the bullying that prompted Esther Bloom to try and take her life.

The college’s current headmaster will get the elbow as he shoulders the blame for not doing enough to spot Esther was in trouble.

The move paves the way for Jeremy to take a central role in the soap as he mixes with a large portion of the cast.

A show insider said: "Jeremy has been given time to bed into the soap and now it’s time for him to step up.

"Landing the headmaster’s job really puts Patrick in the centre of all the action and we’ll see Jeremy in the thick of it.

"We’re sure Hollyoaks are going to love what’s in store for Patrick."

True if she is leaving, they should have made Ruby eventually have to live with the consequences of what her and Sinead actions have done to Esther and try to redeem herself, or have the tables reversed and so she knows what it is like being in Esther's position.

'Hollyoaks': PJ Brennan teases Doug Carter's return and future

http://i1.cdnds.net/12/30/618x398/doug-carter.jpg

Hollyoaks fans see Doug Carter settle back into village life this week after he returns from New York.

Doug flew home to the US after splitting from Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) just before Christmas, but he seems much happier and ready to make a fresh start as he arrives back.

Digital Spy recently caught up with PJ Brennan, who plays Doug, to hear what the show's writers have in store for his character over the next few weeks. Read on to find out whether 'Stug' can be friends, if Doug is likely to find love again, and more!

How is Doug feeling when he arrives back in Hollyoaks?
"Well, right from the get-go, it's clear that going home did Doug a lot of good. He seems to have got back a bit of the spark that was there before the doom and gloom of the failed relationship with Ste. It's clear that he's sorted things out and he's more comfortable within himself. I think he's got his priorities back in check!"

Is Doug's father Herb doing better now?
"That will probably be explored at a later point, but his dad's condition has improved - at least to the point where returning to Hollyoaks is a viable option for Doug. So Doug pops up out of nowhere, to the surprise of many characters including Brendan and Ste!"

You've said in another interview that Doug wants to keep a distance from the Ste and Brendan situation, but does he still want to be friends with Ste?
"Absolutely. It's an interesting relationship to navigate at this point, which makes it fun to play. Doug comes back to the business, which obviously means that there has to be some sort of relationship there between him and Ste. It's a case of building up the genuine and solid friendship that was there before they even started a relationship.

"But Doug definitely does want to keep one foot out of the door when it comes to Ste and Brendan, because it's not really his place, and for his own mental health he realises it's probably for the best! However, due to Doug and Ste working in close proximity, Doug doesn't stay out of it as well as he would hope - and you'll see that in the next couple of weeks."

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/03/618x432/soaps-hollyoaks-3527-1.jpg

As an actor, were you sad to see Doug and Ste split up, or had you always known that was the plan?
"We knew it was the plan from the start, but I was still incredibly sad when it was ending - although that was because I spent most of 2012 working with Kieron, and I knew I'd be working with him less afterwards. That's enough to make anyone sad, because Kieron's a great person to work with!

"But we all knew ahead of time where the story was heading, and it's not as though Doug and Ste won't talk to each other at all from now on. They'll always be important to each other and they have the business, which is such a strong and uniting factor between the two of them. So there's still plenty to come, and they'll always be a part of each other's lives at this point."

Doug did encourage Ste to go after Brendan, but is he at all surprised when he sees that they've actually managed to work things out?
"No, I think Doug is just at peace with the whole thing! He doesn't give away any surprise that they're now together and have managed to stay that way for a month and a half! Doug knows that it's best not to get involved or give any commentary either way. Doug wants Ste to be happy, and that's why he encouraged him to go to Dublin in the first place. It was a selfless act."

Does Brendan still give Doug a hard time?
"Oh yeah, I don't think it would be a Doug and Brendan scene without some sort of quip being thrown at Doug's expense! There's one moment where Doug admits that he'd actually missed that, in a masochistic way!

"Regardless of the tone of the relationship, Brendan is still one of the most important people in Doug's life in Hollyoaks, because of all the backstory they have. I think it's a case of familiarity breeding some sort of affection!"

http://i2.cdnds.net/13/03/618x420/soaps-hollyoaks-3527-2.jpg

Doug grew quite close to Leah and Lucas, so is he hoping that will continue?
"Yes, what's nice is that they do acknowledge the fact that Doug was growing up and making some inroads in terms of being a good stepdad to Leah and Lucas. That thread isn't lost at all.

"I think that's quite nice, because we were portraying two young gay men getting married and having a family. It ended abruptly, but in the few moments that you saw, we were exploring the idea of a modern family. I think it's good to keep that going, and Ela-May and Reuben who play Leah and Lucas are fantastic."

Are there many scenes showing Doug back with his housemates?
"Absolutely. What's really nice about his return is that Doug immediately reconnects with the people who are important to him. Because of the way the story went last year, it's easy to forget that the characters in the lads' pad have been friends for a few years now.

"There's a long history with them and the core of Doug, Leanne and Texas is still there. What's nice is that in 2013 that area of the show will be explored a bit more - and there's a lot to come which Doug will be involved in."

When Doug left for New York last month, did you receive many tweets from fans who thought you'd left Hollyoaks?
"Yes, which is why I went on radio silence for a bit! Personally speaking, if I was watching a TV show and something that pivotal happened, I wouldn't want to know whether the actor was returning. I tried to keep my tweets as vague as possible."

You've been off screen for about a month, so did that translate into a month off work for you?
"It didn't, because of the way that we shoot with filming blocks overlapping. I had to explain this to my mother several times as she was very worried for my job! I had to explain that I wasn't necessarily having a month without any work!

"I was able to go home to New York for a week around Thanksgiving time. I hadn't been at home for Thanksgiving for five years, so that was really nice. I also went home for Christmas, so Doug's departure afforded me a two-week break that I split into two different time periods. But I like working and if I had been off for a month, I probably would have lost my mind!"

Would you like Doug to get a new love interest or stay single for a while?
"Well, I've read some people saying that they want Doug to concentrate on being a happy, single, young gay man. I understand that sentiment, but I don't think he should outrightly reject a romance based on that sort of thinking. I would think that Doug should be in a relationship of some sort - but one that's loving, healthy and not based on a lot of secrecy.

"As good as Doug and Ste were, there was a lot of mistrust and dodgy dealings going on. If there were to be a relationship for Doug, I would hope it would be a healthy one and one which makes Doug a happier person, which does seem to be the focus at the moment. But obviously not too happy, because who wants to watch that?"

This is just speculation at the moment, but some fans are already saying that Doug should get together with John Paul. Have you had any scenes with James Sutton?
"Perhaps! John Paul is a character who re-appeared while Doug was away, so I'm sure that Doug would be interested in finding out who he is. Also, Leanne already knows John Paul, so there's a connection there which suggests that there could be something coming along. But it's one of those ones where you'll just have to tune in and see!"

Would you like to explore Doug's bad boy side again, or do you feel that he's moved on from that?
"I always loved the bad boy side and I do enjoy playing villains because they're usually outsider figures, which is a vantage point that I like to approach characters from. But I do like the fact that Doug turned a corner, and since then he's been making sure that he's not looking back on those times.

"What I also enjoy playing is a severely flawed character, so if there are times when Doug sinks back into that sort of behaviour, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's a villain again. However, there are moments where he has a lapse in judgement and I'm all for that, because I don't think anyone ever changes completely. I just want Doug to be as honest and realistic as possible."

We've heard that the Hollyoaks wardrobe department have been kitting out Kieron with lots of new tracksuits, as Ste returns to his old self a bit! What do you make of his 'new' look?
"Well, I've been saying that I'd love to have a scene where Doug tries to have a sit-down with Ste and goes, 'Uh, Ste, I've noticed you've been wearing a lot of tracksuits recently...'

"I think it's good for Ste as a character, because it's re-identifying who he was and who he is. Kieron is very comfortable on set now because he gets to wear tracksuits, while the rest of us are wearing clothes which are far less comfortable! Kieron's walking around on set like he's just had a nap! It looks good, though!"

What are your thoughts on Emmett's upcoming departure from the show?
"Well, when I was originally supposed to be on the show for just five episodes, Emmett was the one who I'd go back down to London and talk to my drama school classmates about - telling them how incredible he is and how much I loved working with him.

"I think his departure won't really be felt until he's gone. No-one has an understanding of what the show will be like without Brendan Brady. Everyone, including those of us who are making Hollyoaks, will just have to see what it's like. Brendan has been such a central figure for so many storylines, and I think Doug wouldn't be Doug without Brendan.

"In terms of Emmett as a personal friend, he's someone who's been there at key moments for me. He's someone I'll miss because he was a good person to me on several occasions, so I'll always remember that. And I hope at some point I'll get to work with him again - fingers crossed!"

What's the atmosphere like on set at the moment?
"I've been buzzing over the ratings for the bullying storyline in the past week and I've been congratulating Jazmine Franks, who plays Esther, for that. There's a really positive atmosphere and that's in conjunction with a lot of things, including Bryan Kirkwood coming back to the helm as executive producer, which has perked everyone up.

"It's another one of those things which proves why Hollyoaks should be on the air, because I think the bullying storyline was handled very, very well, and no other show would really do it. Obviously it's having a positive impact because the ratings are so strong."

We've seen that Walker is back, so will Doug have any more scenes with him?
"Well, Walker returning means that there's definitely going to be some serious business going on. Because of the characters involved, Doug is definitely involved in that in some degree. You'll have to find out how and why for yourself - but Doug will be involved in some way or another, because Ste's still his best friend."

'Hollyoaks' Emmett Scanlan confirms Brendan exit stunt

Emmett Scanlan has revealed Brendan Brady's much-anticipated Hollyoaks exit will involve a stunt of some kind.

The Irish actor, who announced his departure from the teen soap earlier this month, confirmed that he is just about to film his final scenes as the popular villain.

http://i2.cdnds.net/12/51/618x380/soaps-hollyoaks-3511-1.jpg

"I was doing some stunts today and I'm looking forward to filming the last bits," he told the Daily Star. "I can't wait for everyone to see it. I think it's going to be a good pay-off for the fans.

"I'm not going to tell you whether I live or die because that would ruin it but it's touch-and-go a couple of times."

Scanlan went on: "Hollyoaks is balls-out telly. We take risks all the time - we do crazy storylines, major stunts. We don't film soaps like any other soaps.

"With Brendan's exit we're going to do some stuff that's never been done before."

Candidly summing up fans' view on Brendan's exit, he recalled: "Some of them said, 'Don't go' and others said, '****** off!"

The 33-year-old also dismissed any suggestion that Hollyoaks will suffer from Brendan's departure.

"That's absolute s**te," he said. "I know the storylines after I leave and they're awesome.

"Hollyoaks is at its highest in two years but it's going to go from strength to strength. I'm delighted."

Sounds exciting:amazed::devil:.

'Hollyoaks': Esther Bloom plot boosts calls to national helpline

Hollyoaks' tragic Esther Bloom storyline has led to an increase in young people seeking help and support in desperate situations.

PAPYRUS, the national charity dedicated to preventing young suicides, has seen a substantial increase in calls to its helpline service HOPELineUK in recent days.

http://i2.cdnds.net/13/05/618x595/soaps-hollyoaks-jazmine-franks-esther-bloom.jpg

Hollyoaks viewers have recently seen Esther, played by Jazmine Franks, make a suicide attempt after being bullied by her peers for a number of months.

The emotional episodes boosted viewing figures for the Channel 4 soap, pulling in the show's highest audiences since late 2011.

Hollyoaks' production company Lime Pictures accompanied the broadcasts with online videos and support information, which directed viewers to PAPYRUS, BeatBullying and Samaritans if they were experiencing suicidal feelings or any form of distress.

PAPYRUS chief executive Ged Flynn commented: "Across the weekend and throughout the week following the E4 and Channel 4 episodes, our helpline team was busy immediately following the broadcasts. Requests for help and guidance via our text service has been strongest, reflecting the programme's young target audience.

http://i2.cdnds.net/13/02/618x420/soaps-holyoaks-3521-2.jpg

"Young people seeking help from PAPYRUS were directly referencing Hollyoaks - some saying that they felt like Esther, some mentioning Jazz - which indicated they had watched the help and support video produced by Lime Pictures.

"We applaud Lime Pictures' responsible initiative to support a sensitive script that could have upset vulnerable young people. The good news is that it has provoked many young people and others worried about their mates, to talk about how they feel and, vitally, to get help from us.

"The scale of young suicide is a national scandal that needs to be talked about. We all need to let young people know that it is okay to get help and the rest of us need to listen and respond well."

HOPELineUK is available via telephone (0800 068 41 421), SMS (07786 209697) and email (pat@papyrus-uk.org). All contact is treated in confidence and anonymity is respected.

Great news!

'Hollyoaks' spoiler roundup: Amy return twists, Carl revenge

http://i2.cdnds.net/12/30/M/amy-barnes-2.jpg

Amy's return storyline

Earlier this month, we confirmed that Amy would be back on Hollyoaks for two episodes, but what most fans won't have guessed is that her return is all down to Walker!

Amy arrives in the village unannounced on Tuesday, February 12, to the surprise of loved-up couple Ste and Brendan.

It's clear from the outset that Amy has concerns for Leah and Lucas following the recent changes in Ste's love life, and it seems that setting her mind at ease may be an impossible task.

When an argument erupts over the kids, Ste angrily grabs Amy's arm, and this glimpse of his old self fuels Amy's worries even further.

As a result, Amy makes the huge decision to take the kids away from Ste, and the devoted dad is left devastated as he is forced to say goodbye to Leah and Lucas again.

However, what Ste doesn't know is that new character Kevin - the Chez Chez barman who is secretly following Walker's orders - was responsible for contacting Amy and sparking all the trouble. How long will it take before Ste and Brendan see Kevin's true colours?

More trouble from Kevin?

With one successful scheme pulled off, Walker's next instruction for Kevin is to plant drugs at Chez Chez.

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/03/M/soaps-hollyoaks-elliot-balchin-kevin.jpg

When Walker offers up a supply, Kevin hides it behind one of the toilets at the club - but will Brendan realise something is amiss?

Carl's plan for revenge

Recently-returned character Carl Costello will be at the centre of high drama in Mitzeee's exit week, which commences on Monday, February 11.

http://i1.cdnds.net/10/26/M/soaps_hollyoaks_carl_costello.jpg

As previously reported, Carl wants revenge against Walker for killing his son Riley - and his initial plan is to hire a hitman to get rid of the villain once and for all!

When this scheme fails to come to fruition, Carl considers taking matters into his own hands and tracks down Walker at a hotel bar. Clutching a knife, will Carl be tempted to deal with Walker himself?

'Hollyoaks' star Anna Shaffer: 'Ruby can change'

Hollyoaks star Anna Shaffer has suggested that her character Ruby Button can still be redeemed following her bullying storyline.

Ruby has been at the centre of upsetting scenes over the past few months with her long-running torment of Esther Bloom (Jazmine Franks), who recently made a suicide attempt as her life became a misery.

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/05/618x470/ruby-3.jpg

However, viewers will see Ruby finally confess to her role in the bullying next week as Esther's situation becomes critical in hospital.

Shaffer told PA: "Once she finds out that this is it, Esther's either going to live or die and she's in this state really because of what Ruby's done to her, that's when she feels complete guilt.

"She feels really awful and she wants to be punished."

Asked whether Ruby can show a softer side, the actress replied: "I think it's always been there, she does have a heart. We've seen how easily she was manipulated by Maddie and she wanted to be part of the cool gang.

"At the end of the day, Ruby is human and humans make mistakes. She's done an awful thing but people can be forgiven and people can change."

'Hollyoaks': Bronagh Waugh leaving Cheryl Brady role

Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh has decided to bow out from her role as Cheryl Brady.

The actress's final scenes as Cheryl will air in March in the same week as her on-screen brother Brendan's dramatic departure.

http://i1.cdnds.net/11/48/soaps_hollyoaks_cast_cheryl.jpg

Cheryl's exit will be tied in with Brendan's, but show bosses are currently keeping tight-lipped about whether viewers can expect a death, an arrest or an escape from the village - with or without her sibling in tow.

Waugh told Digital Spy today (February 1): "Deciding to leave Hollyoaks was tough - I have had the most incredible four years on the show and the cast and crew really are like my family - but it just feels like the right time for me and for Cheryl.

"I am so proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of some of the most hard-hitting and heart-warming storylines. I would like to thank everyone at Lime Pictures, especially the crew, who are some of the most talented and creative individuals that I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

"I am indebted to the support that the Hollyoaks fans have given me, and to Cheryl and the Brady family."

Cheryl was first introduced to viewers in late-night spinoff Hollyoaks Later in 2008. She was then brought into the main show as a new regular in early 2009.

The fun-loving character's storylines have mixed both comedy and drama over the years, and viewers have seen tough times for her while dealing with the darkness surrounding her sibling Brendan.

Hollyoaks' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "Bronagh has brought an irrepressible, unique and beautiful flavour to Hollyoaks for the last four years and the much loved character of Cheryl will be hugely missed by everyone here.

"From a guest role in Hollyoaks Later, Cheryl quickly made her mark on the main 6.30pm show and created one of Hollyoaks greatest characters. We wish her the very best for the future."

Show insiders are promising that the final scenes for Brendan and Cheryl will be part of an "explosive" week of Hollyoaks, with a number of twists and turns leading up to their exits.

Away from Hollyoaks, Waugh is keen to explore new roles and opportunities both in Ireland and the UK.

In summer 2012, the 30-year-old filmed BBC thriller The Fall alongside Gillian Anderson, which gave her the taste to take on new parts.

I knew it:(. I will really miss Bronagh, she is a fab Actress and lovely person, so I wish her all the best. I adore Cheryl's character and i'll miss her more than Brendan!

'Hollyoaks': Alex Fletcher on bullying reveal, Diane's shock decision

Hollyoaks' Diane O'Connor makes a decision that's bound to be controversial in the coming days as she tries to cover up her stepdaughter Sinead's involvement in Esther Bloom's tragic bullying ordeal.

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/05/M/soaps-hollyoaks-alex-fletcher-diane-oconnor_1.jpg

In must-see episodes of the Channel 4 soap airing next week, Diane is left disgusted and furious when she finally discovers how badly Sinead (Stephanie Davis) has treated Esther over the past few months.

As the dust settles, however, Diane has some shocking advice for Sinead as she instructs her to stay out of trouble by pinning all the blame on fellow bully Ruby Button…

Digital Spy recently caught up with Alex Fletcher, who plays Diane, to hear her thoughts on the latest twists and turns in the Esther plot.

How do you feel about Diane being brought into the bullying storyline?
"I feel so lucky at the minute, because the Hollyoaks ratings have been the highest they've been in the last two years with this storyline, and to be part of that is just brilliant. Everyone's working hard and we've got our new producer Bryan [Kirkwood], who's just been absolutely fantastic.

"The bullying is such a big subject and it's been really interesting to see how all the different characters have reacted to it - and now you'll see how Diane deals with it."

The situation starts to kick off when a guilty Ruby comes to the O'Connor house and tries to reveal all about the bullying. How does Diane react?
"Ruby is very distressed when she comes round to the house, and she owns up to the fact that her and Sinead were the bullies. But Diane's reaction is, 'Do you know what? You're going to have to get out my house - I'm not having you spreading lies about my daughter!'

"Diane kicks Ruby out of the house and into the rain, and Ruby is in such a state that she ends up getting run over by Jack in his car. Then that's another web that Diane is caught up in!"

What happens next?
"Diane decides to look through Sinead's laptop and that's when she sees evidence that Sinead was one of the bullies. She then gives Sinead the opportunity to tell her the truth, but Sinead still doesn't admit it.

"It all kicks off as Diane gets Sinead's laptop, smashes it up and slaps her around the face! She asks Sinead how could she do this - how could she treat another human being in that way? Diane orders Sinead to bring Ruby back round, as she wants to have it out with the two of them. But Sinead explains that Ruby is in hospital after just being run over, so it's just a big massive knock-on effect."

What was the slapping scene like to film?
"It was a funny one, because we did a scene when I first started where Stephanie had to hit me. Both of them are quite volatile characters and I think that's where the bullying comes from. Diane has got that aggressive side in her and she uses her hands to express herself, which is not right. Diane is almost bullying Sinead herself by the way she reacts.

"We did have contact when we filmed the slapping scene - we didn't go for a fake slap. It was the same when we did it a couple of years ago, and it's better because you just get a more natural reaction. It didn't require too many takes, so Steph was okay and she survived! I felt awful, though, and I was hugging her between takes!"

http://i2.cdnds.net/13/04/618x426/soaps-hollyoaks-3534-6.jpg

In the end, Diane makes a shocking decision about how to deal with the bullying situation… What can you tell us about that?
"Diane decides that they should just cover up Sinead's involvement and pin the blame on Ruby. That's really awful to play because you think, 'Would someone really do that?' But I think some mums definitely would to save their own kids' skins.

"Diane is also going for a promotion at the college and she's got the opportunity to be Head of Student Welfare, so everyone's position is compromised. Diane also tells Sinead, 'If you admit you're a bully, you've got no future for you and your little baby'.

"Diane doesn't mention herself in those discussions with Sinead, but she's definitely thinking of her own position too. Bearing in mind that she's a one-parent family, she's probably thinking of her job quite a bit. So she just brushes it under the carpet, which is awful. It's a really strong week and I don't think Diane and Sinead are going to be the most popular!"

As a mum yourself, how do you feel about Diane's decision?
"In real life, I wouldn't cover up for anybody - I'm too honest! I wouldn't want to bring my family up to behave in that way at all, so if Sinead was my daughter, I'd expose her. There's no way that I'd cover up for anyone.

"But it was really, really interesting to play something completely opposite to the way I'd behave in real life. When I was saying the lines, I realised that some people really would react this way in the real world, but that's what made it brilliant.

"I think Sinead is a carbon copy of Diane in many ways, and she gets all of her bullying traits from her, as Diane is quite a tough cookie. She decides to bury this bullying problem, and I think Diane has got a few other things buried in the closet, to be honest with you.

"The viewers seem to be quite fond of Diane, but now I think they'll see a completely different side of her!"

You must be proud of the work that Steph has done on the storyline.
"Absolutely - she's one of the best actresses that I've ever worked with. She doesn't realise how good she is, that's what's so natural about her. Steph doesn't have to try, she's just got it naturally and she's fab. I do have to put her in her place now and then, especially when she's better than me in a scene! (Laughs.) But she's wicked."

On a separate note, a lot of viewers were expecting a Diane and Liam romance last year! Do you think they would have been a good match?
"I think Liam was just a bit of eye candy for Diane, and she realised it was nice to have a little attraction to someone. But I think they had more of a brother and sister relationship. We did a kiss under the mistletoe at Christmas and Liam said it was like kissing his sister, so Diane really had no chance there! But Liam is gorgeous and James who plays him is a really nice lad too."

How do you feel about the Hollyoaks fans always asking for more Diane scenes?
"Honestly, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. I think really that's what's kept me in the programme - just the fact that people do say, 'We want to see more Diane'. It's brilliant to see that feedback. It's not always healthy to believe your own press, but it's really nice and reassuring.

"I think Diane is a good character, and with the way that the show is going now, it is very much storyline-based and it's all about the families. The scripts are just absolutely brilliant at the minute and Hollyoaks is well on its way to going in a new direction. Everyone's buzzing, and I am really grateful for the people who do show their support."

The O'Connor clan joined as a foursome but only two remain! Do you miss the rest of your on-screen family?
"Of course I do. When we found out they were going for a while, it was sad because we all came into the show together. But then again, I think it's nice to have that single mum and daughter situation. That's the reality of life and there's a lot of single parents out there.

"Although I do like that, it's not to say that the rest of the family won't make a comeback. It may not be just the two of us forever, but I can't say any more than that!"

Do Diane, Martha and Myra have any more scenes on the way?
"Oh yeah, I loved the scenes we did together and the viewers really seemed to like them. I've got quite a bit coming up with Carli, who plays Martha.

"Like I say, the focus is not just on the kids anymore - it's a good mix of everybody and there's loads more stuff to come. I've got so many scripts at the moment that I can't carry my bag as it's so heavy! It's brilliant."

Whenever your name is mentioned, people remember Brookside's Jacqui Dixon. How do you feel about people still talking about her so many years on?
"It's brilliant - I really didn't realise she was so popular! I'm really proud of that as it was my whole upbringing and I played that character for 15 years. It's nice now to get a bit of Diane recognition too, but Jacqui was brilliant and she's a tough one to beat. I'm doing my best to get Diane at that level, but I'm only two and a half years in!"

I am glad we will be seeing more of Diane on screen more as Alex Fletcher is a good Actress and she was not used enough under the previous producers.

This storyline will divide opinion in terms of her covering for Sinead, but she has her reasons e.g. the promotion and Sinead being pregnant and protecting her stepdaughter but Diane doesn't condone it because she slaps Sinead and tells her off, although Sinead needs to face the consequences of her actions!

I am glad we have Diane/Martha scenes coming up too:).

Over on Hollyoaks, Amy Barnes arrives back in the village after being contacted by Walker's accomplice Kevin Foster.

Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Brendan Brady (Emmett Scanlan) are shocked when they unexpectedly find Amy in the flat, and it's clear that she has serious concerns for Leah and Lucas's welfare following the recent changes in Ste's love life.

When Amy's argument with Ste escalates, he shows signs of his old self as he grabs her arm.

Now more convinced than ever that she needs to protect the kids, Amy (Ashley Slanina-Davies) takes Leah and Lucas away from Hollyoaks. While Ste is left a broken man after saying goodbye to the children again, Walker is pleased with all the trouble he's caused as he watches from afar…

Amy's return isn't the only drama involving Walker as vengeful Carl Costello schemes to get rid of the villain once and for all.

As Mitzeee Minniver's final week on Hollyoaks begins, the glamour girl is shocked as Carl (Paul Opacic) informs her that he wants to hire a hitman to murder Walker (Neil Newbon).

Although Mitzeee (Rachel Shenton) isn't keen on the idea of taking the law into their own hands, she does consider being part of Carl's dark plan to avenge Riley's death.

In the end, though, Mitzeee resolves to do the right thing and she leaves Carl appalled when she tells him that she's called off the deal with the hitman.

Refusing to give up so easily, Carl takes over the task himself - clutching a knife as he tracks Walker down to a hotel bar. Will Carl get his revenge?

'Hollyoaks' star Anna Shaffer talks Ruby backlash

Hollyoaks star Anna Shaffer has revealed that fans often mistake her for bully Ruby Button in real life.

The actress, whose character has made Esther Bloom's life hell in recent months, explained that she receives messages on Twitter from angry viewers defending Esther.

http://i3.cdnds.net/13/05/618x664/ruby-button.jpg

"I've had quite a lot of backlash on Twitter for example, but I think you have to take it in your stride because if people genuinely believe you're a nasty person then you're doing the right job," MSN quotes her as saying.

"That's the character I have to portray. It's not that nice and it is a bit repetitive when people go, 'Stop being mean to Esther' in the street but it's all part of the job and you just have to take it in your stride.

"Hopefully in coming weeks Ruby will redeem herself because she does feel so bad about what she's done."

She added that being good friends with Jazmine Franks, who plays Esther, means the pair can really "go for it" while filming their scenes.

"It's actually a bonus that we are such good friends," she said. "A while ago I had to slap her across the face and she was going, 'Go on, just do it'. If we didn't like each other in real life there's no way she would have let me slap her across the face!"

I feel sorry for Anna that some people are tweeting her abuse, it is a shame these people cannot differentiate between a fictitious character and the Actress who plays her!
