Claire Devine is making a sensational return!

Hollyoaks super bitch Claire Devine is making a shock return to Chester.
We can exclusively reveal that soap favourite Gemma Bissix is reprising her role as the blonde bombshell.

Bosses are keeping tight-lipped about how she returns but in a sensational twist it will involve the soap’s current villains Mercedes McQueen and Doctor Browning.

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood confirmed: "Gemma Bissix is back!"
Fans can look forward to seeing her on screen from April.

And in another sensational twist their mum will be none other than EastEnders legend Gillian Taylforth, who played Kathy Beale.

The soap’s top brass have finally secured Gillian’s arrival on the show.
And they hope that her brood of strapping sons will cause chaos in Chester.

'Hollyoaks': Gillian Taylforth joins, Gemma Bissix returns

Gillian Taylforth is joining the cast of Hollyoaks, it has been confirmed.

The actress, who played Kathy Beale in EastEnders for 15 years, will play the mother of five brothers who move into the village.

It has also been revealed that fan favourite Gemma Bissix will return as evil Clare Devine.

The actress first left the soap in 2007, briefly returning in 2009 when Clare tried to get revenge on enemies Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) and Justin Burton (Chris Fountain), leading to her arrest.

Taylforth, who recently took part in Celebrity Big Brother, previously admitted that EastEnders bosses wanted her back and regretted killing Kathy off.

"They were asking if I could think of any way Kathy could return even though she's been killed off," she said.

"Even one of the executive *producers, John Yorke, told me that *killing off Kathy was the biggest mistake they've ever made."

More details about Bissix's return and the new family that Taylforth's character heads will be revealed soon.

I agree. Bryan Kirkwood needs to rebuild the uni group in particular, they have not had any scenes together in ages and don't seem to study much either LOL.

I think we might see some more students cast if there are a few more departures from the show that have not happened or been announced yet,

I can even forgive that awful return when she came back for revenge on Warren and Justin in The Loft Fire because Bryan Kirkwood was not in charge then and the show was in a mess.

That storyline was originally for Louise, although Roxanne McKee did not want to return hence the last minute decision to bring Gemma Bissix back that year.

'Hollyoaks': Cheryl Brady is arrested

Hollyoaks favourite Cheryl Brady is arrested next week as her new business venture backfires.

Viewers have recently seen Cheryl (Bronagh Waugh) recruit a number of the village's male residents to become naked waiters for her Saucy Service idea.

In the coming days, Cheryl tries to go big with the concept by attending an investment meeting in Southport - only to find her Hollyoaks Later love interest Nate sitting in front of her.

It later transpires that Nate (Tom Turner) is a millionaire rather than just a guy with a horse and cart, and Cheryl struggles to forgive him for deceiving her.

When Cheryl eventually relents and agrees to go out with Nate on Valentine's Day, she gets dressed up as a '70s pimp for the occasion.

Unfortunately, just as the date is ready to begin, Cheryl is arrested for soliciting prostitution - and it looks like Rob Edwards (David Atkins) is to blame for sleeping with Saucy Service clients! How will Cheryl get out of this mess?

'Hollyoaks': Clare Devine's return to air in March

Hollyoaks will air Clare Devine's return scenes next month, it has been confirmed today (February 5).

Last night, it was announced that Gemma Bissix had agreed to reprise her role as Clare, who was last seen on screen in 2009.

Show bosses have today released further information on Clare's shock comeback, revealing that she will take her first steps back into Hollyoaks towards the end of March.

Clare's latest return will see her come between Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Doctor Browning (Joseph Thompson), but exactly how she tries to tear the pair apart remains to be seen.

Bissix said today: "I'm really looking forward to re-joining the cast of Hollyoaks. Clare Devine is one of my favourite characters and I can't wait to get back into the role.

"I'm particularly excited to be working with [executive producer] Bryan Kirkwood again. He first cast me as evil Clare and I hear he is doing amazing things with Hollyoaks at the moment, so I'm really looking forward to being a part of it. Bring back the bitch!"

Meanwhile, former EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth has today expressed her delight following last night's confirmation that she is joining Hollyoaks to play Sandy Roscoe.

No offence and even though Brendan has been a fantastic character and how great it has been to have such a talented Actor like Emmett on the show Bryan Kirkwood really gets the show and I think has a plan to keep the show firing on all cylinders despite the loss of some popular characters leaving.

'Hollyoaks' boss Bryan Kirkwood teases new "male McQueens" family

Bryan Kirkwood has revealed that Hollyoaks's new Roscoe family will be like the "male McQueens".

Celebrity Big Brother and ex-EastEnders star Gillian Taylforth was recently confirmed to be joining the teen soap, and will play the male-dominated family's matriarch Sandy.

"I'm very excited about this family," Kirkwood said before quipping: "Think a male version of the McQueens!"

He also compared one of the new brood to a member of world famous boyband One Direction, telling the Daily Star: "With five brothers there will be something for everyone - from the younger one who could be in One Direction to the eldest who is a true soap hunk.

"They are all seriously hot, and will be shirtless for a lot of the time!"

Neil, Jono, Rhys, Bart & Joel (Maybe Dirk). (Brendan Leaving), whereas only Maddie has left for the girls (Maybe Lacey).

John Paul is my favorite character for when Brendan goes, & he was a teen. The teens can be really strong (Hannah, Craig, Sarah, Nancy, John Paul), the right group have to be around.

I think Esther/Tilly/Callum/Phoebe are great.

Yeah. Nikki Sanderson is on a six month contract because most standard HO contracts are six months to a year before the Producers choose to renew them.

Kieron Richardson shaves off Emmett Scanlan's 'Hollyoaks' moustache

The Hollyoaks cast were keen to get involved in shaving off Brendan Brady's legendary moustache on his last day.

Kieron Richardson, who plays Brendan's lover Ste Hay, marked the significant occasion as Emmett Scanlan filmed his final scenes on the teen soap yesterday (February 6).

Scanlan, who announced his Hollyoaks departure last month, has promised an "epic" final storyline for Brendan.

Bronagh Waugh, who plays Brendan's sister Cheryl, also took part in the ceremony watched by the show's crew.

Waugh, who posted the pictures on her Twitter page, has also left Hollyoaks. Her character's exit will tie in with Brendan's and air in the same week.

Hollyoaks bids farewell to one of its most popular characters next week as Rachel Shenton bows out from her role as Mitzeee Minniver.

Show bosses have lined up a dramatic final storyline for the village's glamour girl, who is left with a massive decision to make when vengeful Carl Costello (Paul Opacic) asks her to be part of a plan to get rid of Walker once and for all.

It's certainly been a tough 12 months for Mitzeee, but with the stakes now higher than ever, is there any hope of a happy ending?

Digital Spy recently caught up with Rachel to hear more about Mitzeee's exit and her decision to leave Hollyoaks.

How are you feeling now that your time on Hollyoaks has come to an end?
"It's a little bit surreal, actually. I don't feel like I've left yet, because I'm still on screen and I'm still doing interviews concerning my storyline. I think I'll have to wait and see how I feel next week once the final scenes have aired!"

You've left the show of your own accord, so was that a difficult choice to make?
"Yeah, I kind of think it's harder when it's your own choice! Hollyoaks really is such a great place to work, and there was nothing bad whatsoever about my time there. I loved my job, I loved everybody that I worked with, and I was blessed with great storylines. Career-wise, it's probably one of the hardest decisions I've had to make so far."

How long ago did you make the decision to bow out?
"I've known that I was leaving for quite a long time. I sort of knew that I was going to leave this time last year, but decided for definite a good six months before."

What was your last day on set like? Were there any tears shed?
"There were so many tears shed, mainly from me! The scenes that we were doing were quite intense anyway, which was great. But then some of them really didn't require tears, so those were more tricky to film! For example, there was one scene where I had to say goodbye to Jess Fox's character Nancy. I've lived with Jess and I got so upset that we couldn't even do the scene. It was an overload of emotions!

"I also had the most amazing send-off from Hollyoaks. I was filming my last scene and then all of a sudden, our lovely producer Bryan Kirkwood, everybody upstairs from management and lots of cast gave me a lovely send-off with flowers and stuff like that. It was just so overwhelming - that was probably the best bit."

Who are you hoping to stay in touch with?
"There's so many people! Definitely Jess Fox, Bronagh Waugh and Jen Metcalfe. They're probably the three that I've been closest to during my time on Hollyoaks. I'll definitely be staying in touch with Nikki Sanderson too. She's quite a new addition to the show and we've only worked together for about three months, but we became very close.

Were you pleased with Mitzeee's exit story?
"So pleased! I hadn't pitched anything to the writers - I left it completely up to them. Because I'd told them quite a while ago that I was thinking of leaving, I just wanted to see how Mitzeee's journey went for myself.

"When I finally heard what it was, I thought it was just perfect. Her departure storyline is just so fitting and I managed to cram every single emotion into that last week. It's going to be a great one to watch, and I'm very excited to see it for myself!"

Were you glad they brought back Paul Opacic as Carl Costello for Mitzeee's exit?
"I thought that was great - especially because myself and Paul both started on Hollyoaks on the same day. It was really fitting that he would be there for my last day - it just made it feel quite perfect. Paul and I are very good friends, so we had a laugh on those last few days."

How does Mitzeee feel when Carl tells her that he wants to have Walker killed?
"At first, she's just in total shock. It's the last thing that she'd expect from Carl. There's a big question mark over why Carl is back, but I don't think Mitzeee would ever suspect it would be because of this!

"A tragedy like Riley's death could lead to irrational thoughts in a person's head, but even so, Mitzeee is shocked by just how serious Carl is about this plan. At first she says, 'Absolutely not - I don't want blood on my hands and this is not my fight'. You'll have to wait and see whether she changes her mind."

Mitzeee's final week also sees her make an appearance on Sky News with Eamonn Holmes. What were those scenes like to film?
"Eamonn really was so much fun and such a good sport. I was quite nervous, actually, because Eamonn's a little bit of a legend and I grew up watching him on TV. But he was so cool and really threw himself into it, actually. He was asking lots of questions and really wanted to do a good job, and he did!"

How did you feel about Mitzeee's pregnancy?
"I was really shocked when I first heard about that. I'd heard that Mitzeee and Maxine would both think they were pregnant and both take tests, but I was thinking, 'Surely it's going to be Maxine's kid?'

"When I found out that Mitzeee would be the pregnant one, I thought, 'Oh my God, this is amazing - what more can this girl have to deal with?!' I was really interested to see how she would handle it."

Are there any final scenes between Mitzeee and Brendan in her final week?
"Yes, there are! There's a little twist and Brendan is involved in Mitzeee's final week in an indirect way, so he's definitely there."

Do you think Hollyoaks is going to bounce back from the loss of popular characters like Mitzeee, Brendan and Cheryl?
"Yes, of course I do. The show is going to be absolutely fine, because we're following Bryan Kirkwood's lead. I feel very confident about Bryan's decisions because he definitely knows what he's doing.

"Hollyoaks will just get stronger and stronger. There will be more characters and more exciting stories. I think it's going to go from strength to strength and I have every faith in it."

Do you think Maxine has a strong future in the village even with Mitzeee gone?
"I don't see why not! That's absolutely not my decision to make, but she definitely has a place in the village and she's already causing trouble! I think she's made her mark, so I certainly hope so."

What kind of projects would you like to take on next?
"I've got a few things that I'd like to do. I think I'd really enjoy doing some more theatre, because that's where I started off.

"It's just about the role for me, as cheesy as it sounds. I'd like to do something that's a huge departure from Mitzeee, because I've played this character for a couple of years now. That'd be great, but we'll have to see what happens."

Mitzeee became far more popular than people might have imagined when she first joined. Are you proud of the impact she's had?
"I try not to think too much about it, but I am immensely proud. It's strange, because Mitzeee almost feels like a very good friend, as odd as that sounds! I really cared about her, and I think her two-year journey has been so full of different emotions.

"That's something I'm proud of, but I'm very proud of everybody there at Hollyoaks, because it's definitely a team effort and the people I worked alongside are very talented."

Which Mitzeee storylines were your favourites?
"I really liked the prison one, because I really felt like everyone was so invested in that. I had people sending me 'Free Mitzeee' t-shirts, which was the coolest thing ever!

"When I first joined the show, my first Hollyoaks Later series was great too - when Mitzeee was out to get a footballer and she did 'The School of Mitzeee' with Nancy and Theresa! Those three were a really unlikely trio, and I loved that.

"I couldn't single one storyline out, but those are definitely two in my top ten. There's so many!"

How would you like Mitzeee to be remembered?
"I'd like her to be remembered for everything that she is. I think she's definitely proved three-dimensional, and she's now a different person to who she was in the first few episodes. I actually watched my first few episodes back a few months ago and I thought, 'Wow - this is a different girl'.

"How else would I like her to be remembered? Maybe on the back of a horse naked, I think! She was on the top of her modelling game then!"

One Direction's Niall Horan sets sights on 'Hollyoaks' Rachel Shenton

Hollyoaks actress Rachel Shenton caught the attention of One Direction singer Niall Horan as she made a live TV appearance on This Morning today (February 8).

Horan publicly voiced his approval as the 25-year-old was interviewed by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford to promote her character Mitzeee Minniver's upcoming exit storyline.

She is a classic character. I am sure that Bryan Kirkwood has plans for her and Tony as individuals now they are separated for good.

Tension between the pair flares up after Ste's estranged partner Doug Carter (PJ Brennan) seems to be growing closer to John Paul (James Sutton).

The story begins when Doug has a mini-disaster at the deli, spilling cooking oil on the floor before slipping and knocking himself out as smoke starts to billow from the oven.

Fortunately, John Paul rushes to the rescue of a grateful Doug, leaving Ste (Kieron Richardson) jealous of their new friendship.

The next day, a mischievous John Paul makes it his mission to infuriate Ste at the careers day by undermining him in front of the students.

When Ste finally loses his temper, the pair fight in the college corridors - but what will new headteacher Patrick Blake make of the situation?

Former Peak Practice actress Saskia Wickham will play Anna, mum of Dodger, Will, Liberty and Sienna Blake.

Daniella Westbrook has revealed her desire to prolong her stay on Hollyoaks.

Westbrook, best known as EastEnders character Sam Mitchell, will hit Channel 4 screens as ex-convict Trudy from February 18.

She ends up living above the shop, how does that happen?
She’s been living with Tony even though they’ve split up and it’s been like war of the roses, she gets to the point where she’s like stuff this so her and Holly move out. The flat is a real hole, really horrible. Holly’s not best pleased and storms out.

What does Cindy do next?
After Holly runs out Cindy pours herself a tumbler of wine, feeling very sorry for herself. She thinks her life is over and she’s hit rock bottom, it’s the worst she’s ever been and now she’s got to live in this dump, it gets too much and she thinks ’what’s the point in carrying on?’.

How does she end up semi naked on a web chat with Darren?
Cindy gets on the computer in her nightie. She’s crying, a bit drunk and she sees Darren is online so they start chatting. She’s really drunk and emotional, not really listening to what he’s saying just pouring her heart out. He can’t hear her properly so he thinks she’s going to commit suicide, so he rushes round to the flat.

What happens next?
She convinces him she’s not going to kill herself and then convinces him to stay. They have a lovely chat but she doesn’t realise she’s left the web cam on. She makes a pass at him, she tries to kiss him and he’s like ’what are you doing?’. Cindy starts crying and feeling sorry for her he gives her a hug at which point Nancy comes home and sees them. But she can’t see that Cindy has been crying just her in her nightie and thinks something is going on.

Does Cindy have feelings for Darren?
I think she always will, I don’t think she has any desire at the minute to break up his and Nancy’s relationship. They are very comfortable with each other and know each other inside and out, so there will always be something there. Darren is happy with Nancy, for now anyway!

Does Nancy confront Cindy?
Oh yeah! She comes storming round the next day, Cindy is very hung over and she threatens to beat her up. Darren’s there as well and Cindy teases her by hinting that a few more glasses of wine and who knows what would have happened. She eventually confesses and admits that like a sad singleton she made a pass at him but he knocked her back.

Hollyoaks spoiler: Kevin accuses him of sexual assault.

Brendan Brady is in for a massive shock when he’s accused of a wicked sex attack on Kevin Foster.

The two men come to blows in Chez Chez and Brendan beats Kevin to a pulp.

It’s exactly the situation Kevin has been waiting for as he’s only in Chester to help Walker destroy the Irishman once and for all.

When he finally manages to escape Brendan’s clutches he take his injuries one step further and uses them as evidence of a sex attack.

Kevin is so convincing that even trusty Ste Hay doubts Brendan.

Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste, said: “Ste’s been beaten up by Brendan loads of times, so even when Brendan insists that he’s innocent, there’s doubt in the back of his mind.

“Brendan could do anything and Ste would still love him - he’s already go away with so much.

Ste doesn’t really like Kevin but he decides that he should go and hear his side of the story in person.”

Of course Kevin tries to turn Ste against Brendan but it doesn’t work.

Kieron added: “Ste isn’t afraid to man up to Kevin.

“He’s learnt a lot from Brendan, and Ste’s got a past of his own. He does have a set of balls, it’s just been a while since he used them!”

Trudy may have more money than Jacqui after running a successful cleaning company but she is just as trashy in the style stakes.

Danniella says she had a lot of input into Trudy’s style.

She added: “Bryan the executive producer was actually my boss on EastEnders for a while and we both wanted the same thing - something big, trailer-trash, ghetto, that whole ‘she’s got money but doesn’t have a clue’ look.

'Hollyoaks' Tom Turner: 'Nate plots will be very dramatic'

Hollyoaks actor Tom Turner has promised that his character Nate Tenbury-Newent will feature in "very dramatic" scenes in upcoming episodes.

Nate returned to screens last week as he came face-to-face with Cheryl Brady (Bronagh Waugh) again, having previously taken a shine to her in the last series of Hollyoaks Later.

'Hollyoaks': Danniella Westbrook teases Trudy, Jacqui scenes

Danniella Westbrook has revealed that her Hollyoaks character Trudy has a "soft spot" for Jacqui McQueen, despite the tension ahead between the pair.

Jacqui (Claire Cooper) accepts a cleaning job from Trudy next week as she desperately needs to improve her family's dire financial situation. There is already a history between the two ladies as they were previously in prison together.

Viewers will see that Trudy holds a grudge against her old acquaintance, which becomes apparent when she tries to frame Jacqui for stealing mobile phones from work.

However, Westbrook told All About Soap: "Secretly [Trudy] has a soft spot for Jacqui, and I think vice versa. They do have genuine affection for one another, but they're both quite tough. They wouldn't be like, 'Aww, you're my best friend!' with each other!"

She continued: "Jacqui and Trudy are always gunning for each other's position. They've each got a hold over the other that has to do with something that happened when they were inside.

"They know if one of them says something about it, then they'll both be in a lot of trouble, so they use that to their advantage all the time. Jacqui will get one over on Trudy, and then Trudy will get one over on Jacqui."

Keen to get in her boss's good books, Jacqui convinces Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) to go on a date with Trudy.

Westbrook explained: "Trudy first sees Tony in the village and thinks he's really gorgeous and hot. Jacqui persuades Tony to go with Trudy for one drink, but I think Trudy just frightens the life out of poor old Tony!

"He's absolutely petrified of her. The problem is, she's way too full-on and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and her behaviour really scares him."

Hollyoaks has brought out Will Savage's sinister side in recent weeks as he has been using his self-inflicted disability to manipulate everyone around him.

Will's machinations continue next week as he attempts to get Texas Longford (Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove) to devote all of her time to him. But just how far will he go to get what he wants?

Digital Spy recently caught up with James Atherton, who plays Will, to hear more about next week's episodes and his character's new direction.

How have you felt about exploring a much darker side to Will?
"I've absolutely loved it. It's so much more interesting to play. The reasons behind his madness are all to do with jealousy - it's a horrible emotion and it causes people to do crazy things!

"I just love the fact that Will is just suddenly so rash about things, and he's taking pleasure in the fact that he has control over people. It's been really fun getting into that darker mindset."

Were you surprised by this change in direction for Will, or do you think hints of this were always there?
"Well, when we were talking about it, we made the decision that Will could have had this obsessive streak as far back as when he first arrived in Hollyoaks. We saw him sketching Theresa and he did seem a little bit obsessed with her, so we felt like it had always been there a little bit.

"More recently, we had the stuff with Silas in the summer. Will was meeting up with him to write a book, and then recording girls in the woods to get into his mindset. I don't think you can do that sort of thing without being a little bit unhinged yourself! I think it's always been there under the surface, but now it's nice to see it coming to the forefront of the character."

Do you think Will still has a likeable side?
"Even though the audience has seen that Will chucked himself down the stairs, he did it as a cry for help and attention. He didn't expect to find himself in the wheelchair, and I think there are definitely moments where the audience are still supposed to feel sorry for him.

"Those moments are getting few and far between now, though, I have to admit! But I still would like the audience to see that it's terrible what he's done to himself."

Does Will genuinely love Texas, or is he more interested in getting one over on Dodger?
"I think Texas is someone who Will has placed on a pedestal. Now he's getting closer to Texas, she is something Will has that Dodger wants. It's the first time that Will's had one over on Dodger, so it's a lot more to do with Will's relationship with his brother. It's sick and twisted in that way - Texas is like a trophy that he has."

What happens when Dirk returns next week?
"Once Dirk is back, there's an expectation that Will is going to go back to living on the boat. But throughout next week, you'll see Will manipulating every situation possible to stay in the lads' pad with Texas. Texas is helping Will out of guilt, but the more the week goes on, he manoeuvres that guilt to make her think that she has genuine feelings for him.

"At one point, Texas goes on a girls' night out and Will deliberately throws himself out of his wheelchair. Once Texas is back, Will acts all pathetic, as if he's completely reliant on her. He's pushing his luck further and further, and he snatches a kiss from her at the end of that night."

What happens next?
"Will just keeps putting ideas into Texas's head, and the week culminates in him putting on a massive act as he claims that he'll check himself into an assisted living facility. Actually what he wants - and what he does get - is Texas and the whole of his family running about after him, pleading with him not to go!

"Because of that, Will actually feels wanted - possibly for the first time in his life. By putting himself in this horrible position of being paralysed, suddenly he's got everything that he wants. He's going to use this situation to get everything he can now, which is really sick!"

Are there any limits to how far Will would go now?
"That's what's great about it - he's going to use it to his advantage as much as he can. Even in the moment of him throwing himself down the stairs, Will didn't think it through. He's prone to doing rash things, and he's a terrible decision-maker. I think that might continue."

How long can he keep the truth about the fall under wraps for?
"As Will is the only one who knows what really happened, I think he can keep it secret for as long as he wants to!"

How are the Hollyoaks fans reacting to Will's darker side?
"It's been funny, because I think everyone's loved the character shift. Although they hate him, I think they've enjoyed seeing this darker side of Will come out. It makes him so much more intriguing and interesting for me to play, and I think it's the same for the viewers as they're wondering what he'll do next.

"The response has been really good and now even the make-up girls here at Hollyoaks tell me, 'I absolutely hate Will!' It's great fun."

You must be pleased that the Savage family are becoming a much bigger part of the show.
"I'm absolutely chuffed about it, yeah. It's lovely, and the stories they've come up with for us have been great. Our producer Bryan Kirkwood has played more on the idea of two brothers feuding, and Will's jealousy of Dodger.

"Also, with the Blakes coming in, Dodger now has two dads - both of which absolutely hero worship him! Will feels like he hasn't got anyone so it's made it even harder for him. It's just going to make Will green with envy and do even more crazy things, which usually end quite destructively!"

What's the atmosphere like on set at the moment?
"It's really good at the moment. I think it's probably the best it's been since I've been here. There's been so much exciting stuff happening storyline-wise, and we've got some really good new people joining the show.

"I've also been reading the scripts of some people's exit stories and various other things coming up, and it just feels like the show's in really strong shape at the moment. It's just going to get better, I think! Especially with the big names coming in - I think it can only do wonders for the show and hopefully we'll go from strength to strength."

Hollyoaks twins Dodger Savage and Sienna Blake are in for a massive shock when they discover their mum tried to kill them.

Anna Blake - played by Peak Practice actress Saskia Wickham - will slip unnoticed into Chester next month when she poses as Will Savage’s home help.

Bye Mitzeee:(, what a fantastic character she has been. Her leaving storyline could have been better IMO, but in a way I am glad she got a nice low key exit with a kind of happy ending e.g. pregnant with Riley's baby and leaving alive which means a possibility of a future return.

Ooh that big file on Brendan Brady is setting the wheels in motion for the downfall of the Irish bad boy.

Walker is getting more unhinged and I hope he does not hurt Maxine to get that file, Kevin seems to have a conscience where that is concerned so I hope he double crosses Walker to save her.

What’s it like being back on the soap?
My character is all grown up, which is nice. The last time I was here it was all about teenage discovery and lots of coming to terms with sexuality and all that. Now that’s all been dealt with and I’m a grown up and a teacher, which is really exciting because I get to work with different people.

He has joined the school when there is a real issue with bullying...
Yeah, it seems like there is a real bullying problem in the school, I mean everyone is a bully, literally everyone! I think it’s good that the show is addressing this issue, yes Hollyoaks is entertainment but with its 6.30 time slot then it has responsibilities too which means we must cover issues that affect kids watching at home.

Has it changed much since you were last in the soap?
Yes it has. It’s nice to see some of the younger actors, who were perhaps more part of the ensemble before, have now been pushed to the front. Like Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste. Ste was this little chavvy, track suit wearing kid when I was last in it and now he’s a big part of the show now. It’s nice to see these kids have made the journey from having little bits in the show to being upfront.

Are you still surprised by the fans love for John-Paul?
Yeah I am, it’s lovely though. Before I went to Emmerdale I had a period where I did some dramas but I’d get messages every day asking when I was going back to Hollyoaks. At the time when you are doing storylines like we did, you don’t think it’s going to be iconic or even remembered. I suppose it means you’re doing your job right.

Do you think that in some way what you and Guy Burnet did as John-Paul and Craig paved the way for relationships like Brendan Brady and Ste Hay?
Maybe, we were the first gay couple of that kind. In terms of the fan interest then I think we did start that ball rolling. What Kieron and Emmett are doing is very different from what we did but it’s lovely to see. It’s good for the show to have couples that people care about so much.
