They have had more than enough time. I mean i get most labour MPs are probably dyslexic and have learning difficulties but they have had days to read this small document. GET IT THROUGH.

Reading it is irrelevant; they need to understand it and work out the implications for the country. That should take weeks if they were doing it honestly.

There’s more to life than money. Or to be more specific, your money, along with your job and any public services you may be unlucky enough to rely on.

That was the gist of Sajid Javid’s extraordinarily ill-judged letter to the Treasury select committee, in which he grandly declined to provide it with a proper analysis of how Boris Johnson’s last-minute Brexit deal will affect the economy. There is more to delivering Brexit than “spreadsheets or impact assessments”, said the man whose actual job is making such assessments so the rest of us know where our money’s going, because really this is about securing voters’ trust in politicians. What happens to trust if the economy craters because MPs were intimidated into blindly backing Brexit without understanding the consequences? Well, let’s hope we’re not about to find out.
Of all the shabby games played over Brexit, this is one of the shabbiest.

British taxpayers face paying out for a large fine after the EU launched a legal action against Boris Johnson’s government over his failure to abide by the law and nominate a candidate for the new European commission.

Despite knowing for weeks that the UK would remain in the EU beyond 31 October, when a new EU executive had been due to be in place, Downing Street failed to put someone forward to join the bloc’s 28-strong top team.

Johnson instead belatedly claimed in a letter sent on Wednesday evening that he had been unable to make an international appointment due to purdah rules ahead of the general election on 12 December.

A spokeswoman for the European commission said the UK had breached its legal obligations despite the prime minister’s repeated claims in public that he would not defy the law.

What has that to do with an in out referendum? There is no assurance that issue will be addressed out of the EU, in fact it could signify immigration being expanded freely worldwide couldn't it?
If we were to take a seat in the WTO, there may be some provision to make free movement a condition of free trade.
The implications are not known are they so why is it so attractive a prospect?

Ahem... I posted this in Feb 2016.

''The immigration rules at the moment allow free movement from all EU nations and then quite significantly tighter rules from the rest of the world.

Our immigration rules will be fair to the world once we leave the European Union."

No... you are not understanding what I am saying. We are still a country within Europe... not the European union.
Why would brexit make it more likely for people to visit? What's changed there?
It won't be any different for people from outside of the European union to visit and more difficult from European union countries. So what makes us more attractive?

Boris Johnson has signed the Brexit withdrawal agreement in Downing Street.

The prime minister hailed a "fantastic moment" for the country after he put his name to the historic agreement, which paves the way for the UK's exit from the European Union next Friday.

He said he hoped it would "bring to an end far too many years of argument and division".

Earlier on Friday, European leaders signed the document in Brussels, before it was transported to London by train.

The signings mark another step in the ratification process, following Parliament's approval of the Brexit bill earlier this week. The European Parliament will vote on the agreement on 29 January.

I object to your thinly veiled insult, it was not ignorant to suggest that old people voted brexit, there are many supporting stats that confirm this. However there are like these gentlemen older men who see past the faux patriotism, they know what true unity and democracy is due to their shared experience with our European neighbours.

I was referring to oop North, and once again my comment about older folk was not directed at you, you really need to get over the victim complex, you were absent from the forum for a huge chunk of time, there was plenty going on in your absense :)

On further reading the article some comments from residents

Meanwhile, neighbours living in the tower block on Vauxhall Street, have reacted to the letter's contents - though none wished to be named,

One said: "The bottom line is I am a Christian and I believe you should love your neighbour, wherever they are from and whatever colour their skin is.

"It is quite surprising because I have always felt that there's a good community feel in this building and I can't think of anybody here who would have written such things."

Another said: "It is what it is really, I did not see the poster myself. However, I think everyone should be able to live where they want."

Another added: "Who else lives here does not really affect me."

Is there any possibility at all that a remainer could have put these posters up to try and make it look like Brexiteers did? Or is the case closed?

There's a motive, they want to rejoin the EU, so need to smear the other side.

anything is possible, not sure how many stories we are talking about but it probably took more than one person if every flat got one, suspicion would then fall on the residents who might be completely innocent, and as usual no one is taking any notice of the positive comments just this one negative act.

More proof that Brexiters need to keep talking about remainers to distract themselves from their own mistakes really. How long will Brexiters blame remainers for everything? Probably for as long as they live. Brexiters might have gotten what they voted for from who they voted for but they'll never take responsibility, will they?

It's always someone else's fault. So many brexiters are utter children.

Scarlett.

I can see many Brexiteers saying "too right" and downloading copies to put up in their tower blocks.

I have a neighbour from his rhetoric would love a copy and probably would like to expel anyone from this country who is not white and British

1230627615637168129So British people need to see these industries "as careers" - but the wages are so low that they will definitely need to be topped up with Universal Credit... And your Universal Credit agent won't pay your monthly credit unless you sign an agreement to, and prove that you are, seeking better paid employment.

 Schrodinger's care assistant?

Kizzy
23-02-2020, 01:42 PM
I'm going to do something I never thought I would do in my life and agree with the conservatives, not entirely but I feel there should be a recruitment drive for the care sector. I think there should be a bigger push in schools towards this area.

Of course it needs shaking up with better pay, flexible working for parents and better regulation for the sector as a whole.
