generate 4 billion? for whom, the super rich

only reason brexit was created was because the elite have this neverending and unnecessary hatred towards the EU

post-brexit i will continue to share my support for everyone in britain who is gonna suffer from this no deal, also makes me sad how unemployement rate in britain is gonna rise either

and no i am not 'fearmongering' i am just being honest and i am worried for british middle-class, and i also worry for already bad relations between Ireland/Northern Ireland, could possibly get a bit worse as well

and yes i finally know what brexit is about, it is a trade thing

I do think you're right there.

I think more and more of the next generation of voters in N Ireland, will start to think of unification with the Republic.

I mean people talk of Scotland voting heavily to remain.
Well the people of N Ireland voted by a double figure majority too wanting to remain
The DUP no longer really reoresent those people.

Scotland has several issues, which is growing the move for independence more firmly now.
Unlike N Ireland, the SNP has no natural alliance to other UK Parties.
Whereas the DUP of N Ireland are always identified with the Cons.

This means Scots voting, firstly are dismissed with their strong remain EU vote.
However they cannot get any government they want in the UK parliament now.
Being stuck with extreme, dismissive and arrogant Con governments, or Con/ DUP extreme ones.

No more UK, no more Great Britain, were independence movements to grow and succeed then.
I feel more than ever before, independence could come now definitely.
Johnson and his extreme Cons can huff and puff all he likes but he cannot be allowed to and shouldn't be either, to keep Scotland like a hostage in the UK.

The SNP are sitting with a ton of Labour former votes in their support now.
Voters in Scotland now know that in England, particularly the far South, the bastion of Con voters will always not act in Scotland's interests.
They'll also be always able to dictate to all Nations of the UK too.

So there are possibly bigger constitutional and worrying issues to arise not only as to the economic side of the UK now from this brexit..
While the extreme brexiteer MPs, in the Con Party, plus their supporters get their way, who only want brexit not caring about any of the consequences of the UK.

Then those other consequences possible, or now even more probable, will only gain more and more strength.
In my view.

Regardless of what happened and is happening right now, I think it's a sad situation to see our great friends from UK leave EU.
I have a special connection with this country, it inspired me and welcomed me and made me who I am today, and I know that so many people will always consider the UK as part of that dysfunctional family.

It is very sad indeed.

For me retaining ties is a start as to any trading deal.

It's not worth my reliving all of the past referendum on this or the chaos all through.
I voted to remain.
I would again.
Certainly whenever it comes in the future, I will vote to return too.

All my very best to you for Christmas and my.hope really now is to start to see a healing process here in the UK to begin, following any new trading set up with us and the EU.
Which I hope will reduce the divisions of the past over 4 years on brexit.

With a flow of a more inclusive move towards the rest of Europe and the EU from the UK, as our voting population changes more positively.

We know this is going to be terrible in a few days time when the full details leak so let the tories own it. You can't criticise it once you sign on to it.

That's good. I'm glad a deal was reached, mainly because our country isn't ****ed now and it's funny to see all the no deal people lose their ****.

If our rights are protected though, that's all that matters.

Dutch interests are well taken care of in brexit deal

Dutch interests are well taken care of in the new trade deal agreed between the European Union and Britain, foreign affairs minister Stef Blok has told MPs in a briefing.

The deal which has been agreed is the best which was possible given the circumstances, Blok said.

In particular, he said he is pleased about agreements on ensuring a level playing field, the rules on state aid to companies and on the environment, workers rights and taxation.

Nevertheless, he said, Dutch and other EU fishermen will be able to catch considerably less fish in British waters.

And while this is a disappointment to the fishing industry, it was a necessary trade off to reach a deal, Blok said. He also said he regretted Britain’s decision to withdraw from the Erasmus student exchange programme.

Earlier, prime minister Mark Rutte said news that a deal had been reached was ‘excellent’. Dutch employers also said they were pleased that a deal had been reached in time but that ‘we should not get ahead of ourselves’.

In particular, the VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland have welcomed the parts of the agreement that guarantee a level playing field between British companies and companies in the EU.

‘But nevertheless, the consequences of Brexit will be immediately felt by industry from January.

We will have to study the exact content and scope of the deal in the coming days to map out the effects for Dutch companies,’ the organisations said.

old stuff

Whenever you can't answer anything you always say it's old and to move on. This is the EU ref thread, a 40 year project of folks refusing to move on. At least be consistent.

Maybe something to do with Labour Party

Like what? I don't understand.

Are you saying he did want it but voted against it just because Labour were voting for it too?

Back in October he should have voted for it.
Sure, but now he is saying how good
it is without the Forced EU
tax.

If he is glad the tax is gone, he would and should have voted for its removal. Either he voted against his conscience at the time or he is simply talking bollocks now, either of which, is not a good look.

the fishing waters dispute is a political argument. The fishing industry is a tiny proportion of our GDP and shouldn't be considered seriously in any pragmatic discussion.

Don't buy single items under £15 from the EU or you'll be hit with around a £9 duty fee on top of delivery.

A single 5kg package being sent to Europe costs £44. It cost £13 a couple of days ago. Enjoy your sovereignty.

anything over £135, you have to pay the vat and customs duty to the courier rather than the shop. Customs duty is a variable rate ... with no specifics other than a base rate of 2.5%. It was a single item weighing about 8 pounds

https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/economics-and-finance/brexit-deal-trade-remove-tariffs-rules-of-origin

The Brexit deal is being celebrated as though it removes all tariffs. It doesn’t

The newly signed EU-UK trade and co-operation agreement (TCA) does little to remove bureaucracy at the border, or facilitate trade in services, but it does at least remove all tariffs and quotas, right?

In practice, the answer is: it depends. As large retailers such as Debenhams and Marks & Spencer are somehow reportedly finding out for the first time, tariff-free trade is not unconditional.

This might surprise you. After all, Boris Johnson has been keen to highlight that the TCA will “enable UK goods to be sold without tariffs, without quotas in the EU market.”

But in order for an exported product to qualify for tariff-free trade under the terms of the EU-UK TCA, it must have either been wholly obtained, or been subject to a significant amount of processing, in the EU or UK. Or to put it another way, the EU-UK TCA only benefits goods that can legitimately claim to have been made in the EU or UK. These so-called rules of origin are not uncommon and can be found in near-every free trade agreement.

This means that if your business model involves importing large quantities of clothes from Indonesia into the UK, and then selling them to shops across the EU, then tariffs might now be levied twice: when the clothes enter the UK, and then again when they enter the EU. The clothes are Indonesian, not British or EU originating, after all.

And while it might be easy to demonstrate that a leg of Welsh lamb is from the UK, and therefore qualifies for tariff-free trade, things get more complicated when you are thinking of exporting something more complex, for example a car, which contains parts sourced from all over the world.

For a petrol car to qualify for tariff-free trade under the terms of the EU-UK TCA, 55 per cent of its value must have been created in either the EU or UK. For carmakers with larger European supply chains this might not prove too difficult a hurdle to clear, but for those that source many parts from Asia it could prove trickier. And if they are unable to meet the 55 per cent threshold, then a 10 per cent tariff applies, with potentially significant implications for their business model.

The EU and UK have attempted to reduce the “day-one” burden for traders somewhat: agreeing that for the first year, exporters will not be required to have all of the evidence supporting their origin claims immediately to hand. But this does not mean the exporters don’t still need to comply with the rules and ensure their products are eligible.

Free trade is rarely free, and for many British companies, used to trading with relative ease across Europe, the new conditions and red tape will come as a surprise. And while some will surely adapt to the new normal, and continue on as before, others will turn their back on exporting all together.

Whether the apparent lack of awareness about these predictable challenges speaks to a wider problem with government communication, or is simply the forgivable result of crisis-fatigue, I leave others to decide.
