That's completely false, jet. The Palestinians have been suffering for decades, and there has never been a time or place to support them. Anyone supporting them has been dismissed as cranks, and now is the time, because it will be too late once they've been wiped out.

For the sake of history, it's Israel that has generally scuppered any chance for peace. They have had pro-peace government officials murdered by internal Zionists and replaced by hard liners in order to prevent a peace process.

There has been no peace on the table recently that Hamas have destroyed with their atrocities. Correct and this is well known and understood from history; the Israeli government knows this... they know that by levelling hospitals and neighbourhoods in response to Hamas, they will only increase their recruiting power, and increase the overall level of risk. So you do have to ask yourself - what is the motivation?

I think the end goal is relatively clear; to completely depopulate and eventually assimilate all current Palestinian territories into Israel.

And I think it'll probably happen, eventually. Eventually that map of Israel/Palestine will simply be Israel, and Palestine will cease to exist.

I had cause to go to Peterborough not long ago and got talking to a homeless man (I was fussing his dogs). He said he couldn't get any help because the benefit office told him he has no links to the area. Except he was born in Peterborough! And he lives in a shop doorway. The rest of Peterborough looked like a foreign country. I'd be interested to know what links they all the foreigners have to the area. Peterborough Council is making a fortune from the government by taking and housing all these incomers to the detriment of indigenous British people. Fair enough, I totally respect that it's possible to have your sensitivities more alight by a certain angle/side.

My algorithm is the same in all honesty. I will say though that in Ireland pro-Palestine stances have always been symptomatic of our own history as a repressed, colonised nation. Even our centre-right leaders have condemned both Hamas and expressed extreme caution and concern at the magnitude of the IDF response in the last week or two. We've historically been vigilant of Netanyahu's regime overstepping international laws and being a grand-stage bully. This should not be conflated with anti-semitism or outright rejection of the Israeli state.

In very practical terms, condemning the Hamas atrocities whilst not picking 'Team Western' and instead actually airing vigilance, context and caution to the cyclic history of bloodshed and oppression that precipitated these atrocities to begin with would seem to me to be the most humane, actionable stance as it speaks to prevention rather than reaction. Prevention is possible, reaction is inevitable.

I think the global response needs to force a two state solution. This has been eight decades of going round in circles, there are too many people who vehemently reject the idea that they should concede anything to the other side and the cycle continues. How can anyone expect Israelis and Palestinians and the wider region to sit down and peacefully agree to each other's right to exist when there are populations loudly decrying that the other side are rats to be exterminated or colonial settlers who steal land, children of light and children of darkness... the rhetoric is so extreme that obviously nothing productive can come of it. The British government and opposition uniting to give the green light to Israel to 'respond' when the response has already been made, to blockade basic essentials needed for life and to cause the forcible transfer of population from north Gaza to south, after decades of hemming people into tinier and tinier pockets of space, is utterly reprehensible.

It's been playing on my mind how furious from beyond the grave I'd be if I died in either side of this conflict right now with my beliefs that Hamas and Netanyahu are extreme nutcases who don't represent me at all, and large sections of the world wouldn't stop to think if me, a victim, even agreed with any of it.
