Russia is going onto a full war footing
forcing all of your people's men (18-60 age groups) to fight for you, sending them to their deaths very likely
is going to backfire on Putin i think, since he's already been worked against by some other members in the government, i don't think they'd agree with practically sending all men to their inevitable deaths

that's so not true
and Putin is getting more cornered now with all honesty, he really doesn't know what he can do anymore, and sending all your nation's men in a fight to the death in that warzone is the worst thing you can do
he should if he was still fit to be president (which shows he clearly isn't), recognize a losing fight and focus on doing the right thing, help out Armenia against the Azeri's (if he really genuinely wants to fight nazi's then he should fight azerbaijan, because those are the real evil basically)
Announcing a part mobilisation of the population and referendums in occupied areas of Ukraine
Russia is going onto a full war footing
i don't think that's anything new, they started calling up reservists months ago and coercive referendums are no indication. What it all shows is that the war is going badly for him so far. The media are now openly discussing how badly it's going and his speech wont help that

Ukraine is Putin's waterloo because they are backed by the west (rightfully so of course)
if Putin wants to do some good again for his russia's reputation, he should go into war with azerbaijan, since they are currently a more dangerous threat out there (you might piss off Erdogan then but tbh russia has always had good relations more or less with armenia and russia is the only one practically whom armenia can hope for now, with UN, NATO pretending their noses bleed and looking away from their conflict)
Thing is if these regions vote to join Russia then he then says Russian territory is being attacked by Ukraine and the West. Its no longer just them carrying out a 'special operation' in another country, it paves the way for a big escalation
it was already that way though, thats why they recognised their independence at the start of the war. I think though that there has to be a 50% chance that he will use tactical nukes in ukraine. Winning is more important to him than leaving anything habitable behind

just give Donetsk, Lugansk their independence, those regional governments will never submit to ukraine government either
be done with it, so Putin can focus on more important matters

https://nltimes.nl/2022/09/21/putin-panicking-dutch-pm-says-announced-military-mobilization
Prime Minister Mark Rutte is not impressed by Russian president Vladamir Putin’s declaration of partial military mobilization. Putin “is panicking,” Rutte said before entering the parliamentary debate on next year’s budget. “You see that Ukraine is starting to act successfully against Russian aggression with Western support.”
Putin’s partial military mobilization means, among other things, that reservists with military experience will be called up for military service. “The West wants to destroy our country,” Putin said in his first televised speech since Russia invaded Ukraine. To protect Russia, 300,000 reservists will be mobilized on Wednesday, and the Russian government should make more money available for arms production, Putin said.
The Russian president also accused the West of nuclear blackmail and said that Russia has “a lot of weapons” to respond with. “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will use all available means to protect our people. That is not a bluff.”
Rutte doesn’t think that the danger from Russia has increased. “It is also not in Russia’s interest to do strange things. Then they also have a huge problem.”
“It leaves us reasonably Siberian, to stay in Russian terms,” Rutte said of Putin's statements. “But the fact is that the Russians still occupy an area the size of Hungary. This certainly is not over. We have to stay sharp. We have to continue to support Ukraine.”
Rutte is also not impressed by the Russian rhetoric that the war in Ukraine may result in the use of nuclear weapons. According to the Dutch Prime Minister, that is “also a kind of rhetoric that we have heard more often.” He thinks the Russians should give it "some rest."
Russia also came up in the parliamentary debate about the 2023 Budget in a clash between PVV leader Geert Wilders and D66 faction leader Jan Paternotte. After Wilders lashed out at D66 Ministers Rob Jetten (Energy), calling him a “climate psychopath,” and Sigrid Kaag (Finance), Paternotte called the PVV leader “Vladamir Putin’s corporate poodle.” According to him, the PVV votes “like Putin wants it.” Wilders said that he is not on Putin's side, but the Dutch are “in trouble” because of sanctions against Russia.
CDA leader Pieter Heerma called Wilders to account for denouncing the sanctions against Russia. He wanted to know from Wilders how he thought he could stop Putin’s aggression. Wilders replied that it was enough for him to fight “the tyranny of section K.” “I was not elected to solve the problems in the world. I was elected to ensure the Dutch can eat and drink.” According to Heerma, this was “the weakest answer” Wilders has ever given.

Health Minister Robert Jenrick has confirmed that Aiden Aslin, who was sentenced to death after being captured by Russian-backed forces in eastern Ukraine is among those who have been released in a prisoner swap between Ukraine and Russia.
Aslin, 28, was captured along with Shaun Pinner in April while fighting with the Ukrainian Marines.
"Aiden’s return brings to an end months of agonising uncertainty for Aiden’s loving family in Newark who suffered every day of Aiden’s sham trial but never lost hope," Jenrick wrote on Twitter. "As they are united as a family once more, they can finally be at peace.

Russian police are reported to have arrested hundreds of protesters rallying against the Kremlin's decision to call up thousands of extra troops to fight in Ukraine.
Russian human rights group OVD-Info put the total at more than 900. The largest number arrested was in Yekaterinburg, a major city east of Moscow.
Dozens were also detained in Irkutsk and other Siberian cities, and Moscow.
Flights out of Russia sold out fast after Vladimir Putin's announcement.
Russia's president ordered a partial mobilisation, meaning some 300,000 military reservists - but not conscripts - will be drafted to bolster Russia's forces who have suffered recent battlefield reverses in Ukraine.
The move came a day after occupied areas of Ukraine announced snap referendums on joining Russia.
And in remarks condemned by Ukraine and its allies, Mr Putin stressed that he would use "all available means" to protect Russian territory - implying this could involve nuclear weapons.

Queues have sprung up along Russia's border as men attempt to leave the country to avoid a military call-up for the war in Ukraine.
President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilisation on Wednesday, which could see 300,000 people summoned to serve in the war.
The Kremlin says reports of fighting-age men fleeing are exaggerated.
But on the border with Georgia, miles-long queues of vehicles have formed including men trying to escape the war.
One man, who did not want to be named, told the BBC's Rayhan Demytrie he had grabbed his passport and headed to the border, without packing anything else, immediately after President' Putin's announcement - because he fell into the group that could potentially be sent to the war.
'I will break my arm, my leg... anything to avoid the draft'
Some witnesses estimated the queue of cars at the Upper Lars checkpoint to be some 5km (3 miles) long, while another group said it had taken seven hours to get across the border. Video from the scene showed some drivers leaving their cars or trucks temporarily in standstill traffic.
Georgia is one of the few neighbouring countries that Russians can enter without needing a apply for a visa. Finland, which shares a 1,300km (800 mile) border with Russia, does require a visa for travel, and also reported an increase in traffic overnight - but said it was at a manageable level.
Other destinations reachable by air - such as Istanbul, Belgrade or Dubai - have seen ticket prices skyrocket immediately after the military call-up was announced, with some destinations sold out completely. Turkish media have reported a large spike in one-way ticket sales, while remaining flights to non-visa destinations can cost thousands of euros.
Germany's interior minister signalled on Thursday that Russians fleeing the draft would be welcome in her country.
Nancy Faeser said deserters threatened by "severe repression" would receive protection on a case-by-case basis, following security checks. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and the Czech Republic struck a different tone, saying they would not offer fleeing Russians refuge.

Referring to a time he was stabbed in the back with a knife, Mr Aslin said: "I knew there was a very high possibility I was about to be killed."
He was then asked by a Russian who was guarding him: "Do you want a quick death or a beautiful death?"
Answering a quick death, Mr Aslin was told: "You're going to have a beautiful death and I'm going to make sure it's a beautiful death."
He said he was beaten for having a tattoo of a Ukrainian trident and for one showing his time in Syria.
Mr Aslin said he was kept in a two-man cell with four people and had to sleep on a mat infested with lice.
"We couldn't go to the toilet properly because we didn't have a toilet", he said, adding that they had to use empty bottles.
Mr Aslin said he survived for three weeks eating pieces of bread and water - and "eventually we had to beg them to give us tap water".
There was a window in the cell, but it had "nothing to protect us from the outside elements" he said, which led to it being cold in the winter.
Talking about when his passport was checked, "as soon as I said Great Britain I got a straight punch to the nose" he said.
Mr Aslin said the only time he was let out was to do propaganda or take phone calls.

The Kremlin has admitted mistakes were made in its drive to mobilise Russian army reservists to fight in Ukraine, amid growing public opposition.
"There are cases when the decree is violated," Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said, adding that "all the errors will be corrected".
Multiple reports say people with no military experience - or who are too old or disabled - are being called up.
Last week's mobilisation decree has already triggered widespread protests.
President Putin announced what he described as partial mobilisation on 21 September, with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu later saying 300,000 reservists would be called up.
However, reports in opposition Russian media suggested that up to one million people could be called up, pointing out that one paragraph believed to be about the exact number of the required reservists was omitted (classified) in the published version of Mr Putin's decree on the official Kremlin website.

yup clearly wusses, because getting deported to gulags in siberia or getting murdered is something not to be scared of
there are quite some russians who are against Putin, you know, they tend to keep a lower profile within the resistance now, not to get arrested or killed
and within Putin's own government also not everyone is on his side anymore

they made moves against Putin's forces you know, like the carbombing which killed that daughter of one of Putin's closest allies (in which that bomb was also meant for the father)
and not everyone of the soldiers of the russian army are eager to fight in the frontline either, hence why quite some who have fled back into russia, Putin might think his troops are willing to die for him, but not everyone has this ''death wish''
Doesn't seem the damage is as big as it seemed at first, traffic due to resume over the bridge later

i just said he is not wrong about some nazi traits within ukraine, remember ''freedom of speech'' but that has been taken away from donetsk and lugansk since they are being denied rights of independence, now that are typical nationalistic traits from ukrainian government of the whole ''take take take''
russia had not intent of invading ukraine, it was seen as an invasion that is something different and from there it started escalating, especially with sanctions from EU, UN, NATO and russia getting banned by UEFA, FIFA, EBU
russia sent military to help donetsk, lugansk for their defences because they were being threatened by zelensky to submit to kyiv and let go of their independence desires

The Russians are pulling out of Kherson which is pretty amazing when they just annexed the region and it's the only capital they've seized
Could well see them push for peace talks in the coming months I think
i think the war is at a pivot point now. Winter is here and Putins options are running out. He could escalate or he could try and negotiate. I don't know which way he will go
I think they'll retreat to a pretty safe position and try and freeze the front lines for the winter while they shore up their gains. Ukraine will feel very emboldened now though and will probably try and push Russia back further which could make Putin pretty desperate
General Sergei Surovikin, who was made Russia's commander in Ukraine just weeks ago, announced the planned withdrawal of his troops from Kherson on TV.
Alongside other military top brass, he confirmed Russian troops would pull back entirely from the western bank of the River Dnipro.
It is a significant blow to Russia's military ambitions as it faces a Ukrainian counter-offensive.
Surovikin said: "I understand that this is a very uneasy decision. At the same time, we will save the lives of our servicemen and the combat capability of our troops."
He added: "The manoeuvre of the troops will be carried out in the near future, formations and units will occupy prepared defensive lines and positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River."

feel sorry for the withdrawing russian troops, some of them likely to be deported to the gulags in siberia :worry:
The Russians after an illegal invasion are now retreating ( which may apparently be a trap) but they are leaving behind thousands of buried landmines
We all think it’s so bad over here but just give those poor Ukraines a thought now and again

[Renowned graffiti-artist Banksy has unveiled
his latest work on a building devastated
by shelling in Ukraine.
Banksy posted a picture on Instagram of
the artwork, a gymnast doing a handstand
amid debris, in Borodyanka.
Murals spotted in and around Ukraine's
capital Kyiv had led to speculation the
anonymous artist was working in
the war-torn country.
Another, not officially claimed, depicts a man
resembling Vladimir Putin being
defeated at Judo by a child.]

Russia needs to go extinct and we EU along with Ukraine need to claim that territory as our own
The American and Russian spy chiefs met in Turkey yesterday so I think the US are starting to push for peace talks to begin soon
It will probably be hard to convince Ukraine to give much up though now that they have the momentum. I think battle lines will freeze for winter soon then there might be some progress on peace in January/February :fc:

Russia will always have long range missiles, including nukes, and they have shown that they cant be trusted in anything that they say, so it's going to be very difficult for the world to say, oh yeah, we believe you mean it now. I think there may be some pretence at peace talks, but we are years away from a solution

The convicted murderer was hired by Russia's Wagner group of mercenaries
He defected to the Ukrainian side but was recaptured by his former colleagues
Horrific video released on social media showed his execution by sledgehammer
Margarita Simonyan, head of the RT state media outlet, said sledgehammers should be used to 'correct' the mistakes of those who lie to Putin

i think its likely it was debris from a shot down missile, it will take time to evaluate. However, Russia shouldnt be bombing anything that could spill into a neighbouring country, they know the risks if something goes wrong. If similar were to happen again i think we could end up directly involved

Not really although of course the blame-game is being played - the suggestion is that it's a SAM (surface to air missile) fired by Ukraine to intercept Russian missiles, that has gone astray and landed over the Polish border.
I personally would call that shared responsibility; Ukraine ultimately has to share responsibility if equipment has gone wrong, but Russia is partly to blame for engaging targets so close to the border, as they know the risks.
These things aren't all that unusual, similar has happened plenty of times in the Middle East (usually Americans firing the rockets). More commonly missiles aimed at military targets accidentally blowing a civilian building to bits.
NATO countries have a vested interest in giving the benefit of the doubt if both sides are claiming this was an accident, because if they don't allow "it was an accident sorry!" to be an acceptable excuse, then they'll have less wriggle room themselves when they inevitably next do the same.

Most Surface to Air missile systems use infrared (or "heat-seeking") as part of their targetting system so while it seems like a huge coincidence, it's actually quite plausible that a stray missile in a large open area would hit a dwelling/vehicle etc. because they're the only thing in the area generating any heat in a cold area. More likely at this time of year as the surrounding area will be even colder by contrast.

Sunak was completely right when he said Russia and Putin are responsible for the Ukrainian missiles straying into Poland, even though Russia didn't launch them.
Russia is responsible because Ukraine wouldn't be firing missiles if it wasn't for Putin and Russian starting this war.
