Since 2014, in fighting between Ukrainian separatists in Donbass and the Ukrainian army has been going on. That story is a complex one, but one we need to understand if we are to debate why Russia moved in.

Crimea and the south off Ukraine were already annexed to Moscow and the Russian speaking people in this region proudly flew the Russian flag. The battles in this region had been relentless for 8 years and there had been many atrocities at the behest of the Ukrainian government.

In March 2021, Zelensky issued a law to reconquer by all military means and he initially said he would start this initiative on February 16th. We, here in the West, were informed by MSM that Russia would be invading the Ukraine on Feb 16th.
Russia didn’t invade on Feb 16th What happened is that the Ukrainians increased their firing and their shelling on the 16th, 17th, and 18th. On the 18th, it was about 40 times the normal rate of shelling than usually observed in this region…. Ukraine has attacked a bridge linking southern Ukraine to the Crimean peninsula with long-range British missiles, Russian officials say.

The two parallel Chonhar bridges were both damaged but no-one was hurt, said the Russian-installed governor in occupied Kherson Vladimir Saldo.

He said it was likely British Storm Shadow missiles were used in an attack "ordered by London".

The bridge is the shortest route from Crimea to the front line in the south.

It is also an important link to the occupied city of Melitopol, which lies on the coastal route from the Russian border across southern Ukraine to Crimea.

Photos posted by Vladimir Saldo showed a gaping hole in one of the two bridges, but he said repairs would be made quickly and vehicles would take an alternative route temporarily.

Russia uses the road as a land bridge to Crimea, and Melitopol is thought to be one of the targets of Ukraine's counter-offensive, which began in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia earlier this month.

Russian forces seized the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014 and then in February last year they invaded Ukraine's southern coastal region too.

Yevgeny Prigozhin called off his advance on Moscow, according to UK security sources.

has shared an audio statement directly addressing
the mutiny in Russia over the weekend.
In the 11-minute clip, he said:
"We started our march
because of an injustice."

He claimed the decision to turn around the
march on Moscow was because he and
his fighters didn't want to shed Russian blood.

The former Wagner leader also said it was not
his aim to overthrow the Russian government.

"We stopped at the moment when the first
assault unit, which had approached 200km to Moscow,
deployed its artillery, made a reconnaissance
of the area," he said.

"It was obvious that a lot of blood would
be spilled at this point.
So we felt that the demonstration of what
we were going to do was enough.

"And our decision to turn back was influenced by
two most important factors.
The first factor was that we did not want to
shed Russian blood.

"The second factor was that we were going for
a demonstration of our protest,
not to overthrow the government in the country."

The Wagner leader also repeated his
claim that his troops were attacked by
Russian soldiers, saying 30 people died
with more injured.

Prigozhin added that Belarusian President
Alexander Lukashenko
"extended his hand and offered to find
solutions for the further operation of
Wagner in a legitimate jurisdiction".

But he did not offer any details about where
he was or what his future plans are.]
