Hollyoaks stars have been spotted filming on-location in Ibiza for a forthcoming storyline.

Jennifer Metcalfe and Nicole Barber-Lane, who play feisty McQueen family members Mercedes and Myra, are among the cast who recently flew out to the Spanish island to film special scenes for the programme.

Digital Spy understands that the Ibiza storyline will feature in the fourth series of Hollyoaks Later, which airs for five nights on E4 later this year.

During shooting for the late-night spinoff show, Metcalfe was spotted wearing a fake baby bump on a beach, sparking speculation that Mercedes will fall pregnant in a forthcoming storyline twist.

Mercedes's current plot on the main soap has seen her pretend to be expecting a baby as part of a desperate bid to keep her steamy affair with Carl Costello under wraps. She has been engaged to Carl's son Riley for several months.

As a result of the love cheat's deception, show bosses are keeping tight-lipped over whether Mercedes is still pretending to be pregnant in Hollyoaks Later or is expecting a baby with Riley for real.

A Hollyoaks source told Digital Spy this morning: "There's plenty of twists to come in this storyline and in a week of episodes airing at the end of the month, viewers will see Mercedes's big dilemma over Riley and the 'pregnancy' come to a head."

Hollyoaks star Hollie-Jay Bowes has reprised her role as Michaela McQueen following a year away from the soap, show bosses have confirmed.

Michaela will return to screens for the fourth series of Hollyoaks Later, which is due to air in autumn 2011.

The character's surprise comeback was being kept under wraps by Hollyoaks producers, but speculation began today when paparazzi pictures emerged showing Bowes filming on-location in Ibiza alongside her screen family members Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes) and Nicole Barber-Lane (Myra).

In addition to Michaela's return, Hollyoaks Later will introduce viewers to a new member of the McQueen clan, who is to be played by Amy Walsh - sister of Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh.

Meanwhile, former EastEnders actor Chris Coghill (Tony King) has also been cast in the late-night E4 spinoff show, though his role is currently unknown.

Hollyoaks Later's fourth series is being produced by the main soap's series editor Claire Fryer and will air as a week-long run of five hour-long episodes later this year.

Full storyline information and the reason for the special Ibiza scenes will be kept under wraps until closer to transmission.

Bowes played the role of Michaela for four years before leaving the soap last summer. Michaela was seen departing the village and heading to London to be with on-off boyfriend Zak.

Kinda Footballer Wives esque but it fits in with the profile they gave of the Costellos so it actually suited the storyline:shocked:.

I hope if it returns next year they do a big stunt. Hollyoaks actually has a big budget compared to the rest of the other soaps, which is surprising and how they can afford to go to Ibiza to film:joker:.

Hollyoaks bosses have officially announced that viewers will be introduced to three new characters in a special storyline shot on-location in Abersoch, Wales.

Next week's episodes of the teen soap see teenagers Sinead O'Connor, Ruby Button and Esther Bloom head off to the seaside resort to party with rebellious Bart McQueen and his old school friends Tilly, Maddie and Jonno.

Having completed their exams and lied to their parents and guardians about why they want to leave the village for a few days, the show regulars are keen to celebrate with parties, passion and fun on Abersoch's sandy beaches.

As revealed earlier this month, former Waterloo Road star Lucy Dixon has joined the cast of the soap in the role of Tilly. Meanwhile, Maddie and Jonno are played by Scarlett Bowman and Dylan Llewellyn respectively.

Hollyoaks bosses have instigated a significant change in the development of storyline ideas, increasing the role of scriptwriters as part of a more streamlined creative process.

In a production overhaul at the Channel 4 soap, writers are now expected to submit their own ideas in story conferences and the involvement of storyliners has been dropped, according to Broadcast.

Under the previous working practice, storyliners would come up with ideas for each episode which were then passed on to writers for further development. However, it is thought that writers are now playing a bigger role in shaping the show's direction.

Confirming the change, Hollyoaks' producer Gareth Philips told the publication: "This is a natural progression and is part of the evolution of Hollyoaks as a long-runner. The new storyline process allows us to focus on developing character-based narratives that are relevant to our young audience.

"It is a much more exciting way of working and has already generated some fantastic ideas for the show."

In further changes, Broadcast reports that a number of established writers have been replaced by new faces in recent weeks.

Hollyoaks appointed Philips as producer in January after Paul Marquess left the position following a one-year stint in charge.


Hopefully this will lead to better characterisation, more creative storylines and good ideas. Only downside is now it'll take a couple of months for these changes to be shown on screen!

Hollyoaks will be filming special scenes at T4 On The Beach on July 10.

The soap will see character Liberty (Abi Phillips) perform on stage, taking friend Theresa and policeman Ethan Scott with her.

Phillips will also become the first person in T4 On the Beach History to perform as two different people. While Liberty gets her big break, Phillips will also perform her own solo material to the T4 crowd.

Phillips expressed how thrilled she was to be singing at the event.

She said: "I'm so excited to perform at T4 On The Beach. It will be my biggest audience to date so it's a little scary but I just can't wait to get out there and perform. I hope the fans like the episode of Hollyoaks too. I love the idea of dropping in my scenes from T4OTB in episodes just two days later. It's going to be tight but it's all very exciting!"

The special T4 On The Beach scenes will broadcast during Hollyoaks on Channel 4 and E4 from Wednesday 13th July through to Friday 15th July.

I honestly think Gaz has left, he hasn't been in it in ages (longer than usual for a characters absence in Hollyoaks) and he isn't in spoilers anytime soon, Rae is another joke of a character, yes shes an alright actress, but her absences are too long that the audience forgets about her character, and i heard shes coming back AGAIN, the cast is big enough as it is, they shouldn't keep bringing characters back like Rae that have no point.

Was bored last night so watched a episode, first time in months.

Dont understand why people are bitching about this Liberty, they way people go on I thoguht she would be terrible, but she got through her lines and seemed okay to me.

Now, Sasha, Beth and Katy.... they were god awful actress's... however Katy actress has improved, seen her in a horror film the other year and she wasent that bad

Liberty and Noah need to go but of course only the producer can decide that, they axed the Sharpes after negative feedback so maybe constant criticism will eventually convince them to drop the characters;).

I hope the producer has some axings lined up after being quiet for like a couple of months not even giving the fans an inkling to what his plans for the show are.

More online speculation HO will be axed, don't know how much C4 have to keep insisting it's not going to be axed although the ratings have dropped they have issues with their other programmes and the Hollyoaks brand is valuable to them plus the demographic they are aiming for:).

Looks like it, they should scrap them and go back to the former way of just using overall clips that happened in the show as it saves time having to keep editing titles once cast have left, returning or are new additions.
