Hollyoaks' sponsorship deal with camera manufacturer Nikon has been renewed for another year.

Nikon has sponsored the Channel 4 soap since January and the new deal will see its branding accompany the programme's airings for the whole of 2012, Marketing Magazine reports.

The latest contract also sees Nikon extending its relationship with Hollyoaks by launching a competition which gives customers a chance to win a walk-on part on the show when they buy a Coolpix S3100 camera.

The competition is expected to be promoted on screen and with a variety of activity at Asda supermarkets nationwide.

Nikon UK's group marketing manager Jeremy Gilbert said of the deal: "We are delighted to further build on Nikon's relationship with Hollyoaks with the continued sponsorship of the programme and the launch of the competition with Asda.

"Nikon's stronger association with the hugely popular teen drama is further helping to change the perception of the Nikon brand, and attract a younger audience."

As with the current deal, Nikon's branding will accompany Hollyoaks' airings on Channel 4, E4 and 4oD.

Hollyoaks has enjoyed a ratings boost in recent weeks thanks to Mercedes McQueen's dramatic wedding and the climax of Silas Blissett's dark storyline.

Hollyoaks has announced the casting of Scottish actor Andrew Still.

In his first major TV role, Still will play "mysterious newcomer" Joel, who arrives in the village later this month, turning the life of an unsuspecting resident upside down forever.

Hired as Chez Chez's new dubstep DJ, Joel's arrival coincides with the disappearance of Brendan (Emmett Scanlan), following his release from prison.

The newcomer has also been tipped to catch the eye of sixth-former Maddie (Scarlett Bowman). However, with only one person on his mind, the student could struggle to win Joel's affections.

Still won the role after Lime Pictures sent a casting opportunity to the Scottish Youth Theatre, of which he was a member. Despite not having an agent, he went on to win the role after impressing the Hollyoaks' casting team.

Hollyoaks star Claire Cooper has revealed that she is eager to portray some happier times for her character Jacqui McQueen in the New Year.

Jacqui has endured a turbulent 2011 centring around her rape storyline with Gilly Roach (Anthony Quinlan). The former personal trainer was found not guilty in his trial, but Jacqui has always maintained that she is telling the truth about what happened on the night in question.

Hollyoaks viewers have not yet seen the last of the Jacqui and Gilly storyline as show bosses have promised that there is a conclusion to the plot on the way.

Discussing her hopes for Jacqui's future storylines, Cooper told Inside Soap's Yearbook 2012 that she wants to see the feisty barmaid "having a better time of it".

She explained: "I'd really like a bit of fun for her and Rhys in their marriage. And obviously the conclusion of the Jacqui and Gilly storyline will affect that, whatever happens. There's going to be a heck of a lot for the audience to get their teeth into when the new year starts."

Discussing Jacqui's marriage to Rhys (Andrew Moss), she said: "The relationship is very funny. I think Jacqui brings out a side of Rhys that we haven't seen before. Andy Moss told me recently that he asked the show's producers a couple of years ago if he could work with me, which is very flattering."

Gilly returned to the village in September following a few months away to clear his head.

Well Gilly is leaving so they will probably just have him admit that he raped Jacqui, that is what I think having heard he apologises but I think in a way having been convinced he never did it and Gilly insisting he hadn't, him suddenly confessing he did IMO is just a plothole or trying to rush the conclusion..

I always expected it to be a little slow after the Silas story came to a conclusion, but bloody hell those kids are hard to watch at times. I was totally bored with Bart and the beer barrel story.

Thankfully Myra, Jacqui, Warren and Mitzeee are around to keep the show alive.

I don't mind the 6th formers apart from Neil and Jonno, Maddie and Callum have potential to be intriguing characters. Apart from Ash and Will though the new Freshers are awful, I can see swift exits for most of them in the near future.

The main problem with Hollyoaks is that they keep bringing in new characters when they've already got too many underused or useless characters to begin with. There's at least ten characters I'd get rid of before bringing more in.

I don't think they thought this through. After one of the best story-lines with Silas they fill our screens with a load of newbies. Hollyoaks star Rob Norbury has claimed that his on-screen grandfather Jeff Rawle is a hit with the ladies.

Rawle joined his former soap colleagues on a night out recently and was apparently surrounded by women who wanted to meet the man behind evil Silas Blissett.

Norbury, who plays footballer Riley Costello, told PA: "He came out for a night out with us in Liverpool and he got mobbed. I was getting a bit jealous. All these hot blondes were coming up to him. I was like, 'I'm not happy here'.

"He's a bit of a pin-up, forget all those Dirty Dens and all that."

He continued: "He'll be up for a sexiest male nomination. He can have my longlist nomination because I won't be getting on it, you can put Jeff Rawle up. I think he'll win it!"

Hollyoaks star Carley Stenson has filmed a one-off return to the soap for a special Christmas episode.

The actress's character Steph Roach will appear as an angel as Doug Carter teeters on the brink of death this Boxing Day.

Doug, played by PJ Brennan, starts to feel lonely and depressed in the build-up to the festive season and finds himself questioning whether his life is worth living at all.

With his friends all home for the holidays, Doug reaches breaking point and jumps from a bridge. However, he then finds himself back at his flat with the heavenly vision of Steph before him.

Angel Steph soon starts trying to convince Doug of the positive impact he has had in the village over the past year. Steph shows Doug that without his influence, one teenage resident would be pregnant, while another character would be a broken man after losing his loved ones at the hands of evil Silas Blissett.

However, Doug also sees that his late girlfriend Bex (Daisy Turner) would still be alive if he had never arrived in Chester.

A Hollyoaks statement teased: "Faced with the decision of whether to go to heaven and save Becks' life, or return to Hollyoaks and save the fate of his friends, which path will Doug
choose?"

Stenson bowed out from Hollyoaks late last year, when Steph died in the dramatic Il Gnosh fire.

Hollyoaks will air the special Doug-centric episode on Monday, December 26 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.

As revealed last week, the soap will celebrate its most memorable moments of the year with an hour-long retrospective in late December.

It has now been announced that the programme will air on Friday, December 23 at 9pm on E4.

Will Best and former Hollyoaks star Alex Carter (Lee Hunter) will present the special.

A Hollyoaks statement said: "This special one-off E4 show will take a cheeky look back at the sexiest, funniest, biggest, bestest moments from a phenomenal year in Hollyoaks. Cast and crew share their Best Bits and the Hollyoaks fans get in on the act by making bits of the show at home."

The band are not long term, they will be gone in a few months;).

What happened in todays C4 and E4 episodes? It has mainly been an inconsistent year for the show as always but it is doing OK atm.

- Bring Holly Cunningham back, giving Cindy a new storyline, and give Cindy a home and possibly a new love interest?
- Jack & Frankie to get back the dog, and giving them more screentime.
- Recast Finn and have him and Tom friends.
- Make Carmel more comical like in her early days.
- I think a good idea would be to bring back Ruth Osborne, (possible recast i don't know) she could have a boyfriend, more screen time for Darren, Frankie & Jack, she could return on Nancy & Darren's wedding, but doesn't approve of Nancy.

Rae's shocked me because of how violent it was, Heidi's wasn't violent at all and it was just so shocking and intense the WHOLE episode was intense and on the edge of your seat, Halloween has to win Best Single Episode, or at least be nominated for it!

My 2012 wishlist :love:

- Get rid of Jono, George, Neil, Liberty & Ruby. Teen click can then be Callum, Bart, Maddie, Tilly, Esther & Sinead.
- More screen time for Tony
- Bring Holly Cunningham back, giving Cindy a new storyline, and give Cindy a home and possibly a new love interest?
- Jack & Frankie to get back the dog, and giving them more screentime.
- Recast Finn and have him and Tom friends.
- Make Carmel more comical like in her early days.
- I think a good idea would be to bring back Ruth Osborne, (possible recast i don't know) she could have a boyfriend, more screen time for Darren, Frankie & Jack, she could return on Nancy & Darren's wedding, but doesn't approve of Nancy.
- Lynsey & Doug would be a good pairing.
- More family scenes with the McQueens
- Get rid of the band (think they are leaving anyway)
- Give Amy a good storyline, possible new love interest? or bring back Kathy Barnes?
- Mitzeee and Cindy should become frenemies, but later give in and become best friends

Conor, you should be THE Hollyoaks producer, I love all these ideas, only one I am not fussed on is Ruth returning, I would like Izzy Cornwell back instead :D

When Doug first appeared I hated his character but since his return the producers have made him so much better with his interactions with Lynsey, Bex and Warren.
