Hollyoaks star James Atherton has revealed that his character Will Savage will return to using his brain rather than his brawn in upcoming episodes.

Will has undergone a transformation in recent months, becoming more confident since enrolling in Hollyoaks Community College, meeting new friends and joining the rugby team.

Atherton, reflecting on the change, told Digital Spy: "I really enjoyed playing the old Will, when he was more insular. It was really fun to come in, put the glasses on and get stuck behind a book, especially because it's so different from me in real life.

"But what we've tried to do with Will is show that when people go to university and settle in with a group of friends, they do relax and come out of their shell. He feels more comfortable in his own skin now, and I think that's what they've tried to show over the last six months."

Viewers see Will take centre stage on the soap next week as he organises an Enchanted Forest-themed music festival to help raise money for his homeless family. The storyline leads up to singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre's guest appearance on the Channel 4 show.

Atherton added: "I think we'll maybe see a bit more of the old Will coming back after the music festival. He realises that maybe the festival was more of a Dodger thing to do, when perhaps he can find other ways of making money.

"I think we'll see him using his brain a bit more, rather than this rugby brawn that has started coming out recently."

Atherton joined the cast of Hollyoaks in March 2011.

Hollyoaks has landed a new product placement contract with Nokia, it has been announced.

The soap will feature Nokia Lumia smartphones on screen from July in a four-month deal agreed between Nokia, Channel 4 and Hollyoaks's production company Lime Pictures.

Show bosses have confirmed that a select group of Hollyoaks characters will be seen using Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 smartphones. The phones will be integrated into storylines, demonstrating the Lumia's features in the process.

Characters will also be seen wearing Monster's Purity HD headphones, while Nokia poster adverts will appear in the village's bus stop. Additionally, two characters will be developed off screen as they tweet in their Hollyoaks personas to further promote Nokia Lumia.

Channel 4's partnership leader Rob Ramsey commented: "The Nokia Lumia phone range is a terrific fit for Hollyoaks's young and savvy audience, and I'm delighted to be announcing this new partnership between Channel 4, Lime Pictures and Nokia.

"It's the second major product placement deal we've agreed for Hollyoaks in 2012 and is a fantastic example of the targeted and innovative deals Channel 4 and Lime Pictures can offer across our content and platforms."

Lime Pictures's head of product placement Ian Cartlidge added: "We are delighted to be working with Nokia on this exciting new deal. Lime and Channel 4 have shown that, by working together, we can provide an opportunity for brands to work across all the properties Hollyoaks has to offer within just one deal."

Meanwhile, Nokia's head of marketing John Nichols said: "Hollyoaks is the perfect platform for Nokia to engage with younger audiences, embedding Lumia in amazing everyday storylines people can relate to. This partnership is another example of how we are pushing the Lumia brand in new innovative ways, with a human approach across multiple platforms."

Product placement was given the green light by Ofcom in December 2010. Hollyoaks already has a six-month deal with cosmetics and beauty company L'Oréal.

Abi Phillips has called on Hollyoaks writers to give her character Liberty Savage a romantic plot.

Phillips has seen her character engaged to Ethan Scott (Craig Vye) since joining the teen soap in 2010.

However, since the pair split up after it emerged he had been secretly dating her best friend Theresa, Liberty has not been in any lasting relationship.

Phillips told Heat that such a storyline could be unlikely due to the presence of her alter ego's older brothers Dodger (Danny Mac) and Will (James Atherton).

"My brothers are so overprotective of me," she explained. "I'd really like my character to go a bit wild on the boy front.

"It would get so many people in trouble and you'd get to learn what the family's about. It'll be cool to see why they're like that as well."

Hollyoaks viewers will have to wait until a future episode to see if she survives, or the extent of her injuries.

Soap bosses are reported to have wished to give the air-head character a more serious and emotional storyline.

Hollyoaks newcomer Neil Newbon has teased that his character Walker's storyline will be "quite revolutionary".

Walker made his first appearance on the Channel 4 soap last month and he will return to screens in a few days' time, causing Cheryl Brady to fear that her brother Brendan is up to no good again.

Brendan (Emmett Scanlan) and Walker previously spent time in prison together, now sharing both a rivalry and a mutual respect.

Newbon told Inside Soap of Walker's future: "I'm so excited about what's in store. Walker is a very unusual character for Hollyoaks, and his story is going to be quite revolutionary."

He continued: "It's something the audience won't have seen before."

Offering his take on Brendan and Walker's sparring, Newbon added: "They have a volatile dynamic because they're so similar in many ways. Walker thinks Brendan is far and away the most impressive person he's ever come up against, and has a lot of respect for him.

"They're always working in parallel, whether it's together or against one another. They are each other's shadows."

As seen in the latest Hollyoaks picture preview, Joel Dexter (Andrew Still) will soon decide to do some detective work by finding out more about Walker.

Beyond that, magazine reports have revealed that Lynsey Nolan (Karen Hassan) will also become curious about Walker, doing some digging of her own when she realises that there may be a mystery connection between him and Amy Barnes's Australian boyfriend Ally (Dan O'Connor).

Apparently Riley gets it on with Lynsey after Mercedes causes him to fall out with Lynsey, she is being devious and being nice to them as part of the plan.

Hollyoaks star Karen Hassan has revealed that she is likely to remain in the soap for the "foreseeable future".

The actress - who plays Lynsey Nolan in the Channel 4 soap - said that although she misses her family and friends while filming, she is also enjoying her time away from Northern Ireland.

"Everybody's always at the end of a phonecall and my friends were over at the weekend - and my mum's coming over in the next few weeks," she told What's On TV.

"I miss the closeness and the familiarity of home but I feel settled here in Liverpool and it's my home for the foreseeable future.

"The whole thing for me has been a whirlwind. I always say when you start on Hollyoaks you don't just get a job, you get a whole lifestyle."

Hassan recently returned to Belfast to film her role in BBC drama The Fall alongside her Hollyoaks co-stars Emmett Scanlan and Bronagh Waugh.

She explained that she enjoyed having the opportunity to live with her mother during the production.

"I've wanted to come back to Belfast and do something for a while, whether it was a play or a film or a series like The Fall and it was lovely to fly back to Belfast and I'm able to stay at my mum's house while I'm filming.

"It's funny - obviously I was over the moon because me, Emmett and Bronagh are all in Hollyoaks together playing kind of a family so it was amazing for us finding out the news kind of consecutively that we'd got parts in The Fall.

"We're all over the moon that we all ended up in it but randomly our paths don't really cross that much in The Fall. I was filming a scene with Emmett yesterday but our characters didn't know each other."

Crime drama The Fall starring Gillian Anderson debuts this winter on BBC Two in the UK.

Karen Hassan recently said that she wants Hollyoaks serial killer Silas Blissett to make a dramatic return to the village.

Hollyoaks star Dan O'Connor has admitted that his character Ally will lose his "good boy" reputation as his new storyline kicks off.

Show bosses first teased that Ally has a dark past some time ago, and fans can expect this to become apparent on screen within the next few weeks.

Speaking on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff this morning (June 6), O'Connor suggested that Ally will no longer seem similar to his Neighbours character Ned Parker, who he played between 2005 and 2008.

Discussing how Ned and Ally's stories crossed over, the actor commented: "I think initially they did. Ally's quite a strait-laced… well, we assume that he's a strait-laced good boy. But that's all about to change!"

O'Connor went on to joke about how Ned and Ally both sparked speculation over their sexuality in their first storylines.

He said: "I think the reason why that came up [on Neighbours] was because [Ned] was very secretive about something, and so everyone assumed that [he] was in the closet. But the fact was that [he] really liked musical theatre and was trying to hide that from everyone else.

Emmett Scanlan has claimed that his Hollyoaks bad boy character Brendan Brady will go "to a new level of darkness" in Hollyoaks Later.

Scanlan told PA that the post-watershed show "builds very, very nicely throughout all five episodes".

Scanlan has recently been flying to and from the set of Hollyoaks to Belfast in order to film BBC crime drama The Fall, alongside his soap co-stars Karen Hassan and Bronaugh Waugh.

He spoke of the challenges of working on two shows at once, saying: "For the first time in a long time I've been cast as a good guy. I'm going from hunting a serial killer to being hunted myself when I'm back on Hollyoaks. It's a massive change."

Hollyoaks star Gemma Merna has revealed details of the struggles ahead for her character Carmel Valentine as her injury storyline begins.

Carmel has an ordeal on the way in upcoming episodes as a tanning machine explodes when she is using it, leaving her with a face wound and serious burns.

The incident occurs as part of Carmel's ongoing desire to look her best for the Face of Attwells competition.

Merna, speaking of the consequences for her alter ego, told TV Times: "Carmel has spent years working in the beauty trade. Image is absolutely everything to her, so she's devastated.

"She feels ugly and thinks other people will think she's ugly too. She's always had this dream of meeting her Prince Charming, but she feels that's never going to happen now and she's going to be stuck on her own."

Sleazy Doctor Browning is among the hospital staff who look after Carmel during her recovery. However, it is Lynsey Nolan (Karen Hassan) who is forced to step in when Carmel makes a shocking decision.

I know the show is youth orientated but it is better without those sixth formers, although if the show had more balance with the fair use of older and younger characters in terms of storylines then it would be better and of course having much improved writing too in terms of the characters and storylines.

Indeed and I know they read forums etc for feedback, so I hope they take peoples opinions on board.

They need to improve the writing, storylines and characterisation and plus use older characters more and give them storylines which do not involve their children.

Hollyoaks also needs to take on board the amount of comments from viewers about the overuse of the teens and the constant concert storylines involving music which are getting on some peoples nerves;).

Hollyoaks star Ashley Taylor Dawson has revealed that there is a "party" atmosphere on the set of the new-look Dog In The Pond.

The village's pub has been getting a makeover off-screen in recent months, but has its grand re-opening in tonight's (June 15) episode.

Dawson, who plays Darren Osborne, told Inside Soap: "The old set had lots of nooks and crannies, so often people in the background weren't needed for every shot because they'd be out of sight of the camera.

"But now everyone can be seen - there's nowhere to hide - so pub filming days are like one big party. We get excited and everybody messes around. There's usually someone shouting, 'Shut up!' It's mayhem."

Viewers will see Jack Osborne (Jimmy McKenna) become infuriated in the next few days as the Savages take up residence in their new houseboat just outside The Dog.

Back to that Mercedes thing It is obvious that she will stab herself so that Riley will have sympathy for her and then blames Mitzeee because by then Mitzeee knows that Mercedes is her stalker.

Hollyoaks star Jeff Rawle has returned to the set of the soap, sparking rumours of more storyline twists ahead for his evil character Silas Blissett.

As seen in the paparazzi pictures below, the actor headed back to the show's base in Liverpool last week and was spotted holding a Hollyoaks script - news which is likely to excite the Channel 4 soap's fans.

Viewers thought they had seen the last of serial killer Silas last year when he went to prison for his sinister crimes. However, his return to filming shows that he could still have plans for the remaining residents of the village…

Rawle was also pictured on a night out with the Hollyoaks cast yesterday (June 18) as they were apparently celebrating his shock comeback.

Cast joined Rawle at the Gusto restaurant in Liverpool, immediately setting tongues wagging over how and why Silas would be back.

Hollyoaks and Company have teamed up for an upcoming storyline.

Esther Bloom (Jazmine Franks) and George Smith (Steven Roberts) will become interns at the fashion magazine's headquarters, in a plot which will play out on screen next month.

From Monday, July 9 to Friday, July 13, the Channel 4 teen soap - set in Liverpool - will relocate to Company's London offices.

Victoria White, editor of the magazine, will guest star in the show as herself.

Both Hollyoaks characters will struggle to cope independently in London, with Esther nearly ending her career by ruining a feature piece.

Meanwhile, George will embark on an office romance with fellow intern Ryan, who will be played by George Evans.

Esther and George's friendship will also be challenged in the special week.

Hollyoaks favourite Mitzeee Minniver becomes the prime suspect for a terrible crime next week as Mercedes McQueen is found stabbed.

The shocking incident comes after the glamorous love rivals have a huge row, which is sparked when Mitzeee discovers that Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) has been her stalker all along.

When Riley and Lynsey find Mercedes in a desperate situation and Mitzeee with blood on her hands, it seems that the feud between the two women has taken a disturbing twist. Has Mitzeee done the unthinkable, or is someone else to blame?

Digital Spy recently caught up with Rachel Shenton, who plays Mitzeee, to hear her thoughts on the dramatic storyline.

How does Mitzeee feel when she finally gets together with Riley in the next few days?
"She's so happy. Mitzeee really wants that unit of her, Riley and Bobby. It's very unconventional, but she loves it. She loves Riley for all the right reasons and I think, for the first time, she's actually quite content."

Mitzeee, Lynsey and Mercedes have all been battling for Riley's affections. Do you think Mitzeee is definitely the best match for him?
"I think so - I think Riley was always going to be with Mitzeee in the end. Mitzeee knew that she had more sway with Riley, because they go back such a long way and there is a history there.

"Ultimately, they had a strong connection and I think there's no effort required for Mitzeee and Riley to be together - they do it so easily. They live together at the flat, they do the nappies and the dinner together, so it all works fine. I think Mitzeee was always going to get him, but her question was always whether Riley felt the same way or not."

We've seen that Mitzeee and Riley have their fans, but some viewers can't get past their family connection! Do you like the fact that they cause a bit of a debate?
"I do like that people are talking about it, yeah! As actors, when it first came up for the two of us, we said the same thing - 'How does that work?!' But it isn't incestuous, because they're only second cousins. Also, they grew up separately and came back into each other's lives as adults. It certainly doesn't feel like they're family, and it doesn't feel seedy. But yes, I do like that everyone talks about it!"

With Mitzeee and Riley together, Mercedes returns to her old tricks. How does Mitzeee react when she realises that her stalker is back on the scene?
"I think at first, Mitzeee is so happy with Riley that she feels like she's finally turned a corner and she can put everything to bed with the whole stalker thing - it's been a while since that reared its ugly head. She's very content, but then strange things start happening again.

"Mitzeee comes home one night and there are photographs of her all over the flat, which have been taken when she's out and about. Mitzeee is shocked that this person not only has been following her every move, but also has a key to her flat or has gained access in some way. So not only has the stalker come back, but they've come back on a whole new level."

Does she have any theories on who the stalker might be?
"Mitzeee definitely has no idea that it's Mercedes - in fact, Mercedes is probably the last person that she'd suspect. She actually thinks that it's Lynsey and accuses her, because it seems to make sense.

"From Mitzeee's point of view, Lynsey isn't going out with Riley anymore and could be slightly bitter about it. Lynsey would also potentially still have a key to the flat, so it seems like the most logical explanation."

What can you tell us about Mercedes's stabbing?
"Mitzeee comes home and she's in such a state because of the photographs and the other things that the stalker has done. She takes some antidepressant tablets to calm her down, and she has some wine too - which isn't a great combination!

"Then Mercedes comes round saying that she wants to see if Mitzeee is okay. Mitzeee still has no idea who the stalker really is, but as they're talking, Mercedes says something that makes Mitzeee discover the truth - and she's totally shocked.

"Mitzeee is petrified and picks up a knife in the kitchen. The next thing you know, Mitzeee wakes up after being unconscious due to the tablets and the wine. The first thing she sees is Mercedes with a stab wound and there is blood everywhere. Mitzeee doesn't have a clue whether she could have stabbed Mercedes, or if someone else came into the flat and did it."

Did you ever imagine that this story would take such a dramatic twist?
"I certainly didn't expect it to play out in the way that it has. But it's just so exciting for me to film and I feel like Mitzeee has come on such a journey. We saw her as a bit of a bimbo and an airhead when she first joined the show, but then people had a bit more time for her and realised that she's a decent person underneath it all.

"As an actress, it's just so great to be able to play something like this and get your teeth into it. I've been blessed that I've been given so much, and these scenes were just a joy to film with Jen."

Mitzeee turns to Brendan for some help, doesn't she?
"She does! Mitzeee and Brendan formed an alliance quite early on, and they've been friends for a long time. He's her partner in crime, as he's the one who helped to send Warren down and the person who she rings when she's in trouble. It's very natural that Brendan would be the first person she would go to, as she knows she can trust him.

"Brendan is there for Mitzeee and he listens to her, as she still has no idea of what's gone on. He helps her as much as he can, but I'm not allowed to give away too much about what happens after the stabbing…"

There's a lot of drama at the moment, but are you still hoping Mitzeee and Riley get a happy ending?
"I certainly hope so! I know it's what she wants, but things happen and in true soap style, it's very rarely plain sailing. But it would be nice as I think Mitzeee deserves a bit of happiness. She deserves a good bloke!"

Would you like to see Seth back at some point?
"Yes, definitely! Miles [Higson] is a really good friend of mine and I think it'd be nice to see Seth back because Riley's in trouble at the moment. Maybe Seth could come back to check if he's okay, or to see the baby. Who knows, but we've got a great storyline team so I'll leave it up to them."

Are you excited to be in Hollyoaks Later again this year?
"I'm very excited and we've just started filming for it, actually. I love doing Hollyoaks Later because you're on location and it's a different sort of vibe. It's really enjoyable and the story this year is going to be great."

How's the training going for your Mount Kilimanjaro climb?
"The climb has been pushed back a year, so I'll now be doing it in September 2013. Because of my storyline, Hollyoaks can't release me to do the climb this year, which is fine because I'm very busy at work and really enjoying it. But I'm still training for it, so hopefully next year I'll literally jog up that mountain!"

Best in a while and it should bring a conclusion to his storyline I actually hope he kills Texas because she was his first intended target and it would bring the storyline full circle.

Jennifer Metcalfe has said that her Hollyoaks character's baby is persuading her to start a family herself.

The Mercedes McQueen actress told Star magazine that she enjoys her on-screen rapport with the young actor who plays baby Bobby.

"I'm not ready to pop one out yet, but Jacob - who plays Bobby - is perfect. I'm warming to the idea," Metcalfe said.

Of her relationship with professional ice skater and former Dancing on Ice partner Sylvain Longchambon, she gushed: "It's amazing.

"We work very well together - and he's good around the house!"

Metcalfe revealed: "Sylvain wants to get married and have a family, and, one day, I'd love to too. Let's see where we're at in five years."

The star's character Mercedes, who she has played on Channel 4's teen soap since 2006, gave birth last autumn.

Lucy Dixon has signed up to star in a pantomime production of Aladdin this Christmas.

The actress - who currently plays Tilly Evans in Hollyoaks - will take the lead role at the Norwich Theatre Royal's festive panto.

The former Waterloo Road star is joined by comedian Andrè Vincent, who returns to the theatre for a fourth year running.

The play will run from December 18 to January 19, reports EDP24.

Norwich Theatre Royal's John Bultitude said: "The two latest casting announcements are going to help make this year's show one to remember.

"We are really excited to be welcoming Lucy to the city to star in the festive spectacular. Add André into the mix with his distinctive brand of off-the-wall comedy and Aladdin looks like being a panto to remember once again. Oh yes it does!"

Tickets for the panto can be purchased via the theatre's box office.
