I think United leading this division with their weakest team in some time is some indication of where the Premiership is at the moment. Awful standard.

Yep, all the teams just seem to be taking points off eachother, the league's so tight which makes it better IMO. If a team like Man.City or Arsenal could just put a string of good results together i think they'd start to run away with the title, hasn't happened yet though.

Blackburn 2 Liverpool 0:shocked:, this will probably be the last straw for Liverpool's owners and by tomorrow Hodgson could be on the lookout for a new job.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 Chelsea 0- Considering Wolves fixtures after this (mostly against teams in the top 6) they've certainly got the potential to cause upsets and Chelsea need to buck up their ideas quick.

I wouldn't be too sure:nono:, we'll definetly lose at some point and some are getting carried away with United being unbeaten:rolleyes:, we've played crap and will hopefully improve but there's more twists to come.

What world class players would want to go to Liverpool with the current situation?, no Champions League football possibly again for another season. If I was a Liverpool fan right now I wouldn't bother about 7th place even if it's Europe and would hope for managers/owners to try and rebuild the squad in terms of the league because for the first time in ages you guys were so close to winning the title one year than the year after it went tits up in the wrong direction.

Alls that the player needs to do is look at our star players. Reina, Gerrard, Torres.. 3 of the best players in the world. Obviously when they see are position in the league it doesn't look good, but we are only 5 points off 7th place with 2 games in hand. And we're still in the Europa aswell.

Just need to get a decent manager in to make the players play.

There's only so much the star players can do to motivate the team, they're all meant to be in it together. Look at the team spirit that teams like United, Arsenal and Chelsea have. If all the Liverpool team isn't motivated then there is obviously big problems.

It would be nice for Liverpool fans if you won the Europa League but in a way the longer you stay in could be a distraction IMO.

We should really have made city suffer.. hit the post like 3 - 4 times..

They never had a clear chance i dont think..

We completely dominated, would have loved to have beaten city.. again.. as we were much better. and for once alan hansen who usually writes us off, says we are more of a title threat than city.

Nasri is set to see his pay increased to £75,000-per-week, which would be just reward for the Frenchman after his 13 goals this season have seen Arsenal continue to fight for glory on several fronts.

The Arsenal midfielder has been an inspiration for the Gunners this season, and really came to the fore during the absence of injured skipper Cesc Fabregas.

And Nasri's father believes committing his long-term future to Arsenal is the best thing his son can do.

“He is only 23 years old and still has much room for improvement,” said Hamid Nasri. “I am convinced that he can go even higher. I think that yes, this will be with Arsenal.

“It is a club that is close to his heart, that knew how to bring him to the level where he is. I think that Arsenal remains his priority.”

Good times.

Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has hailed defender Johan Djourou after the 23-year-old made a successful comeback to competitive football following his fitness woes last term.

The Switzerland international was injuried before the start of last season, and has made seven starts and two substitute appearances in the league this term in the absence of Thomas Vermaelen.

"I’ve talked about Johan before, but I really admire how he’s handled his comeback," Fabregas said in the club's official matchday programme, before the recent game against Manchester City.

"I don’t know how I would react to a season without playing but he was always strong, smiling and working hard. The boss has treated him really well, with caution, and he’s now playing fantastically for us.

"Hopefully he can keep it up because I think that, with the way we play, we need a centre-back like him – strong, good on the ball, quick, making his presence felt on the opposition striker."

Thomas Vermaelen emerged unscathed from his first day back in training and Arsenal are increasingly hopeful he can return at the end of January, Goal.com UK can reveal.

The 25-year-old defender has been out since August with an Achilles injury picked up on international duty and Arsene Wenger has aired the possibility of dipping in to the transfer market for a new centre-half if Vermaelen's comeback is delayed once again.

But Goal.com UK understands that Vermaelen came through well in his first full training session on Wednesday and the medical staff are confident that he can finally return to the first team later this month.

Obviously I want city to win but I'm not bothered if we lose as long as we give it a good go and it's not a battering which could damage team morale, as things finally seem to be getting back on track for us now. :D I'll go for 2-1 Stoke.

Arsenal Target Lille's Eden Hazard For Summer Signing
The player said this week that, with clubs from all over Europe courting him, he dreams of moving to the Emirates. "Let us try to make his dream come true," Wenger said when told of the player's ambition.

John Terry’s A Pusher: The Sun go for the Chelsea captain this Saturday claiming he injured at steward at Wolves. “John Terry was at the centre of a row last night amid allegations he pushed a football ground steward, causing whiplash to his neck. Patrick Steadman, 39, claims the Chelsea ace, known as JT, shoved him in the chest near the end of the Blues’ 1-0 defeat at Wolves on Wednesday. The burly steward, standing at the edge of the pitch, says he was retrieving the ball so Wanderers goalie Wayne Hennessey could take a goal kick.”

RIght did anyone see this??

Wenger wins manager of the decade!

Forget the heroics of José Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson, or the genius of Carlo Ancelotti, Arsène Wenger has been the world’s best manager over the past decade – and it’s official.
The Arsenal boss topped a table complied by the ‘International Football Federation of History & Statistics’ (IFFHS) – an organisation recognised by FIFA.
The 61-year-old, whose team have not won any silverware in six years, earned 156 points while Ferguson was second (148) and Real Madrid’s Mourinho followed in third (135).

"More than ever, we need to stick together," he told The People. "We must live in the present, from match to match.

"We need to add more points, win matches and improve our standing in the table.

"That is our challenge and I demand the total help of our supporters in doing that.

"My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals.

"I haven't considered leaving, although in football that depends on the club.

"Liverpool had a lot of success under Rafa Benitez and that is difficult for anyone to follow.

"Even if the ball hasn't always dropped our way this season, we have missed out in a lot of matches."

Fair play to us yesterday, wasn't even our first team out there apart from the defence and we gave it a right go against Stoke who actually had their first team out! We were the better side first half by miles.. they got back into it but we defended incredibly and no doubt was Super Mark Hudson man of the match :D reckon we'll turn them over at home as we haven't been knocked out of the cup in Cardiff since 2004. With the Dalglish appointment I can't see Liverpool making any real improvement - their problems run deeper than changing the manager. Benitiez left them with a piss poor squad.

Knee jerk reaction from a club in trouble, the board trying to win back a few of the fans by getting in a man that most Liverpool fans want as the new manager.

It's a temporary thing having a legend of the club to steer the players and get the fans on side during a difficult time:p. Only thing is got to watch he doesn't fall into Kevin Keegan territory by what happened at Newcastle:D.

Correct - that won't happen until the summer though, and he may not still be at the club.

They only have 3 players good enough for a side looking for a title challenge. A big clear out is needed. They are nowhere near top 6 standard at the moment.

I reckon they will get a couple this transfer window, although it's obvious to wait till the summer because there will be more quality available and most of them want to play in Champions League football but if some do want to play for them then expectations would have to be lowered for a while...

We're second in January, we have a right to be optimistic of promotion. Didn't say we were gonna run away with it. One-man-team QPR aren't running away with it either.

Parkin's the last thing the opposition defence is going to want to see coming off the bench after being knackered out by Chopra, Bothroyd, Bellamy and Burke and soon to be Routledge. Nearly every championship defence can't deal with him because he's such a physical player.

We're 2nd so it's all good and form has been picking up again. :) We've apparently agreed a deal with Everton for James Vaughan too, which would be a great signing as cover for Chops. Routledge is close to signing as the deal was originally done before Pardew came in at Newcastle and I'm buzzing to see him in a city shirt again, he'll rip the championship up! We were also in for Danny Wilson at Liverpool on loan til the end of the season, but now Roy's gone we'll need to see if he's in Kenny's plans to see if we get him or not.

Thats the problem - which top quality players are going to want to join them in their current state? Not many.

We were very close to going up last season - we were still in with a chance on the last day of the regular season at Millwall. At one point when we went 1-0 up we were in 2nd place but then of course Leeds turned it around and both Swindon and Millwall had to settle for a play off place.

Made it to the final of the play offs at Wembley where we were deservedly beaten by a decent Millwall side, but may have been different if it wasn't for the Wembley turf as that cost us an equaliser near the end of the match. A real let down of a day, not just the result but the whole Wembley 'experience'.

As for this season...lost our captain, lost 29 goal top scorer to Leeds, and lost a loanee who scored 9 from midfield in half a season - and haven't replaced them. Manager is coming under a lot of pressure.

Yes I am, funnily enough Parkin has got a good record at championship level so you clearly know jack about this league. We've signed him as a player who's gonna use his physical presence to rough up some tired centre halfs for the last 10-15 minutes of a match. We're talking with players like Vaughan and Routledge so we're obviously looking at giving it a good go for the final third of season.

Drinkwater is gonna be a quality player one day, even Utd fans have said it. Hudson's one of the best centre halfs in the championship, such a professional and a good leader, also played well for Palace in the premiership and he was all over Fuller and Jones on Saturday... and Naylor? LOL WTF LMAO I never said he was premiership standard, he'd be okay for someone like Ipswich who are constantly mid-table but not for a team looking for promotion.. no clue where the ******* you got that idea from.

None of them are capable premiership players, they may be good at their current level but that doesn't mean they are premiership standard.

Nothing more than a lump nearing retirement - his legs have gone and its only a matter of time before he drops down the leagues.

Most appropiate term to describe him is a 'carthorse'.

Strange, strange signing.

Here is a view from a Preston fan on another forum:

Right here s the deal with Parkin.

Lazy , over weight oaf , who despite time and faclities a plenty cant even be bothered to get fit. Doesnt jump but prefers to drag his opponent down to get the foul. Wont chase cant chase.

Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be readying a bid for Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol. The Arsenal boss has stated his desire to bring in more defensive options and is keen on bringing the Spanish international to the Emirates in January.
25 year old Raul Albiol arrived at the Bernabeu in June of 2009 and was a regular under previous boss Manuel Pellegrini, making 42 appearances in all competitions but he has since lost his starting eleven spot to Portuguese international Pepe which has led the former Valencia man to being restricted to just five La Liga starts this season.
The strong tackling centre back may well then be open to offers that give him regular first team football which will in turn increase the chances of Albiol getting a starting spot in the Spanish national team. Wenger has previously been linked with the likes of Per Mertesacker and Neven Subotic but moves to sign either of the Bundesliga stars have been hampered by the their respective clubs refusing any approaches for their prized assets.

Liverpool have prepared a £10m bid for Southampton's highly rated teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as they attempt to rebuild for the future and to back Kenny Dalglish's pledge of support for Fernando Torres with action.

The 17-year-old son of the former England international Mark Chamberlain has made only 14 starts for the League One club but is regarded by many at Southampton, and Liverpool's scouting department, as a better prospect than Theo Walcott was at the same age. Walcott's current club, Arsenal, are Liverpool's main rival for the signature of an attacking midfielder who has scored six goals this season, and the clubs hope to complete a deal in this transfer window.

That wasn't our first team tonight, that was Kenny giving the players that have been dropped over the months a chance to prove themselves. Which they didn't take.

Like any of them bar Gerrard would have made a difference. :joker:

Aurelio, Cole and Babel have hardly been first teamers this season anyway, and Carragher is wank these days.

The better side won, of course Dalglish won't get any abuse but if Woy picked that side he would have been slated.

Would have made more difference than Jovanovic and Poulsen.

We just haven't replaced the players we've lost with anyone that is as good as them.

Arbeloa > Johnson
Riise > Aurelio > Insua> Konchesky
Hyypia > Skrtel

Alonso> Aquilani > Meireles
Mascherano > Lucas

Garcia > Benayoun > Cole

Still no replacement for Keane either

Nicklas Bendtner, football fake. Once again he has looked out of his depth against a Championship side - he should be shipped out by Wenger tomorrow.

It's a good job the French guy at centre back only cost Arsenal a couple of million or whatever it was - he's garbage.

Liverpool proving tonight that they have more underlying issues than just changing the manager - they have a very, very average squad.

I dont think ive ever seen Arsenals passing so average.. Song made a difference, but denilson is **** and i would have started song ahead of denilson, and Bendtner was crap, Chamakh was better than bendtner and he played like 20 minutes, Fabregas was definately frustrated.. Eboue was complete ****...

I definately think the second leg...

Arsenal fans want Gary Cahill ahead of Per Mertesacker, but how would they each fit in to Wenger's defensive options?
Fans vote for Bolton defender, but Castrol Rankings rate German higher

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his desire to bring in a new central defender in the January transfer window.

Goal.com UK revealed earlier this week that Per Mertesacker is high on the Gunners' wanted list, but they face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.

With Thomas Vermaelen, arguably the Gunners' top centre-back, currently out injured as well as Sebastien Squillaci, Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny are Wenger's only prominent options at centre-back.
Mertesacker has been identified as Arsenal’s main target to solve their defensive problems. However, with a £20 million price tag and competition from title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United, the north London outfit are in for a hard time to capture his signature.

Think we might end up signing Charlie Adam now, here is what Holloway has said:

"I want him to go to a club which is not struggling, it's always been my goal to get him to one of the top five or six clubs,'' he said.

"Liverpool have not made an inquiry, but I would not be surprised after that. I would look at that one differently."

Bossed our midfield the other day, didn't see what the fuss was about before the game but would take him now.

This has pretty much been confirmed now. Plenty of sources saying it and our Director of football strategy was at their last game watching him.

10 mil is far too much for someone of that age though if you ask me

Arsenal are close to agreeing a £5million deal for Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Manager Arsene Wenger has moved swiftly to head off interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United in the 17-year-old.
Arsenal have a strong relationship with Southampton after signing Theo Walcott in 2006 and the Oxlade-Chamberlain transfer will be similar.
They paid £5m for Walcott with another £7m based on appearances and England caps.
Southampton are still negotiating but hope to achieve £10m for Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the player staying on loan for the rest of the season. (Daily Mail)
It had looked like Arsenal were being beaten to the punch with regards to Southampton’s latest young starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but apparently, according to this source, a deal is practically in place to bring the attacking midfielder to the Emirates.

Immediately upon making that table, I realised these fans are geniuses. Arsenal have been an absolute shambles. My sincere apologies to every doom monger for genuinely believing in this team. How very naive of me!

The most obvious observation is that they haven’t won all their matches. We should not care that City and the Spuds have won 50 percent or less of their games or that Chelsea have a lower winning percentage than Arsenal. A club like Arsenal should be winning all their games.

Arsenal’s poor win record comes from the fact that there are no 20 goal strikers at the club, Arshavin is useless and doesn’t care, Cesc wants to be at Barca, there are no real wingers, no one can put a decent cross, and no one really wants to shoot at goal. The fact that Arsenal have scored 11 goals more than the next best just shows that we can do anything with statistics.

The central defenders are completely useless and this can be seen from the goals conceded. Arsenal are conceding 1 goal a game whereas United and Chelsea only concede 0.93! The Tiny Totts have been so good this season. They’re only conceding 1.38 goals per game. What a mistake it was to let Gallas leave. Arsene should learn from ‘Arry and buy English defenders like Dawson.

The best proof that Wenger must spend can be clearly seen from the performances of Man City. Their defensive record is even better than that of United and Chelsea!! And they’ve only lost 6 games compared to Arsenal’s 8. That’s 25 percent less losses than Arsenal. How’s that for a stat?! It doesn’t matter that they drew with Leicester City in the FA Cup or lost to a team like Lech Poznan in the Europa League.

Their loss against Arsenal at home was clearly an aberration. We all saw how great City were at the Emirates. They showed the value of buying proven central defenders and defensive midfielders. They also exposed all of Arsenal’s attacking weaknesses that I mentioned above.

Considering these facts I think it’s only fair that the fans are not getting behind the players when they’ve struggled for form. I mean why should a fan cheer someone like Arshavin who is making big bucks and not delivering. Just look at someone like Bale, now that’s a guy who should be cheered. He’s got 7 goals and 3 assists in the League at a rate of a goal or assist every 185 minutes. Just because Arshavin has 4 goals and 9 assists at a rate of a goal or assist every 108 minutes doesn’t mean he’s actually done well. Stats can even show that Arshavin’s overall contribution is better than Nasri’s who’s got a goal or assist in the League every 139 minutes. We all know that’s rubbish! Arsenal win because Nasri has been phenomenal and struggle because Arshavin has been useless.

We can all see he’s lazy and underperforming. It’s his job to lift the fans out of their miserable lives by winning matches and scoring wonder goals. It’s preposterous to suggest that fans should get behind the team or an out of form player when they’re not doing well.

I used to think Arsenal have a great squad and they’re trying hard. I think I was confused because Arsenal are the only team who are still in all four competitions. But based on the ‘facts’ discussed in this article, I’m beginning to change my mind. I’m sure there are a lot more observations that prove how wretched Arsenal have been this season. Please feel free to share your favourites.

Manchester United target Lassana Diarra’s agent has revealed that, although his contract runs out at the end of June, he will move in January.

Diarra has struggled to make an impact at the Bernabeu so far this season but has offers from Italy to consider as well.

Diarra has experience of Premier League football, having played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth and would be seen as a good signing for Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is thought, though, Fergie would rather bring him in on a free transfer in June because Manchester United do not need another holding midfielder yet.

However, Owen Hargreaves’ Old Trafford contract also runs out at the end of the season so Manchester United will then be in the market and would not have to pay a fee to Madrid.

If they are to sign him, though, it now looks as though they will have to move quickly as interest in the player hots up.

His agent said: “His contract with Real Madrid expires in June, but will move as early as January. Diarra is considering several bids, even from Italy.”

Van der Vaart hails 'important' Arsenal starlet

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has hailed the impact of young England star Jack Wilshere as one of the most important players at North London rivals Arsenal.
The Dutch international, who moved to England at the start of the season from Real Madrid, says he watched the 19-year-old closely from the stands when the Gunners played Spurs in the Carling Cup earlier this season; a match in which Wilshere steered Arsene Wenger’s side to a 4-1 win.
Speaking at Nike Town to assembled media, the White Hart Lane fan favourite spoke warmly of Wilshere’s qualities:
“I saw him playing for Arsenal against us in the Carling Cup. I was not playing, so I had a good position in the stadium.
“I really enjoyed his game because he was the best man on the pitch. When he controls the ball he’s always free. It looks easy. But it’s the most difficult thing.
"He’s so young and he’s already so important to the team, and I respect that.”

I reckon Downing will stick it out at Villa, he's getting lots of first team football and seems to be enjoying it there but these footballers are fickle:D.

Can't see Suarez going to liverpool.. there is no chance of any champions league football next year.. Tottenham should bid for him once they Sell Keane

I think Inter Milan will end up bidding for him, they're on a lookout for another striker despite being linked with Edinson Cavani from Napoli and they're hitting top form again after falling behind in the title race and close to getting back into the top 4:).

They won't sell Keane now, none of the big clubs will want him, the smaller teams won't be able to pay his wages, and they won't loan him out

Surprised to see O'Neill rule himself out of the running for West Ham manager, BBC were making it out to be a done deal. I'd like Avram to be given a few more games in charge I think, our recent results have been pretty solid, but if we do sack him then Big Sam to be his replacement hopefully

The board seem to be trying to force him out though, especially Karen Brady :bored:

Hope Avram stays, he's been in the relegation zone for about 18 months but I reckon he'll save West Ham.

Arsenal ready to end trophy drought, says Thierry Henry
Former Arsenal striker believes his old club can finally end their six-year wait for silverware this season - If we beat ipswich and west ham/ birmingham...

Manchester City were yesterday preparing to hijack Arsenal's bid for Southampton wonderkid Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Sportsmail revealed last week that the Gunners were close to agreeing a £5million deal for the winger.
But big-spending City have now made their move to land the 17-year-old. Eastlands football administration officer Brian Marwood has been handed the remit of luring Oxlade-Chamberlain to City and has already made contact with Southampton.
Sources close to the player last night claimed they were expecting Marwood to speak with the teenager's advisers this week. The approach could be a fatal blow to Arsene Wenger's hopes of taking the youngster to the Emirates this month.[b] - Wankers..

Frenchman tips defender to be back within six weeks - This is what i want, not only for Arsenal lol... but a good performance and i can buy him on fifa ultimate team :)

According to the ever-reliable caughtoffside.com, Arsenal are planning a £4.5million raid for Philippe Mexes of Roma.
The France international is out of contract in the summer and could be the ideal man to solve Arsenal's defensive crisis- Not a bad signing for just 4.5m..

With West Ham manager Avram Grant teetering on the brink of unemployment and the club paying the full £90,000-a-week wages of loan signing Wayne Bridge, ITV tried to cheer up their supporters by listing the halftime score of their match against Arsenal on Saturday as 2-0 in favor of the Hammers.
Of course, the actual haftime score was 2-0 to Arsenal before they added one more to make it a 3-0 final. But ITV's efforts to bring momentary joy to beleagured West Ham supporters and to drive rash Arsenal supporters to jump out of the nearest window were admirable. - lol..

Fair play, was tempted with the under 2.5 goals market but thought better of it. Nice return for you there.

You've shafted them with that fee to be fair.
