Kenny Dalglish.

Dalglish. He really wanted the job but they told him not to even bother applying because they didn't want him. He works in the youth academy and is club ambassador as well.

I agree they are deluded, they looked down their nose at Roy and thought he wasn't big enough to manage their club. Poor guy didn't stand a chance.

Funny thing is Mourinho has said on record that he wouldn't touch Liverpool with a barge pole, said he'd rather manage Everton or Villa or a club like that. Reckons Liverpool is cursed or something

Apparently, no matter what the result of their Europa game tonight, Roy Hodgson has been told he must resign as Liverpool manager. Frank Rijkaard is reportedly going to be announced as their new manager.

Hodgson needs to be at a mid-table side, our expectations are too high for him.

Carragher off injured, never thought I'd say this but it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

And David Ngog vs Cannavaro, Ngog's going to score tonight and prove himself as a top class striker :)

Rooney has just signed a new 5 year contract keeping him at Utd until 2015.

Looks like all that bull**** about wanting to leave was just to secure better terms for himself. Fair play I suppose. Still a gob****e though.

He's made Fergie look like a fool, never thought I would see the great man have to bow and scrape to keep a player, people are right when they say the players and agents hold too much power these days. Also shows what a dire situation United are in, no money for new world class players (which is apparently why Rooney wanted to leave, funny what a difference being offered a shed load more money makes though eh?) mahoosive debts, they're definitely on the slide.

Well said, Ian Holloway. I've just watched that press conference and every word of it's true, he's got it spot on and brought the whole thing back down to reality.

It's amazing how, at that level, it's all about player power. It's not about the club, the fans or the passion. How can you, like Holloway, said sign a three or four year deal and, a year or two in, decide that you're ****ing off? How?

Wayne Rooney is a silly, overrated player with no class who's become a spoilt, obnoxious **** and he's being horribly, horribly advised.

No doubt the United 'fans' will change their opinion from him being a useless scouse **** to being a top quality player again.

His agent must have engineered it. Even though I agree with Holloway you have to ask how Alex Ferguson, of all people, was out manoeuvred like this. Ten years ago Rooney would have already been out the door.

MissKittyFantastico
22-10-2010, 04:26 PM
The difference is 10 years ago, United weren't in the **** like they are now financially, they weren't relying so heavily on two players in Giggs and Scholes who are surely in their swansong season or near to it, if Rooney was sold would Fergie even see a decent chunk of the money for new players or would it all go towards paying off some of the massive debts they have? Fergie's hands were tied and Rooney being the disloyal little gob****e that he is, has just played a blinder. It's everything that's wrong with the game today.

The Man U fans are so fickle, they'll go from some of them lying in wait for him outside his house ready to lynch him, to chanting his name like the dumb sheep they are again next time he plays. He's played the whole lot of them like fools.

We don't have any money (surprise surprise), although Moysey has his eye on one or two young strikers from abroad he could get on the cheap/on loan but apparently the door is open for Landon to come back on loan again, and he wants to so long as he feels fit enough so that will do me nicely, made a huge difference to us last season :)

I'll take that point, terrible mistake from Howard to let them equalise but Bainsey's free kick was amazing.

They were better in the first half, we looked panicky and not composed on the ball really, second half was all about both team's defense, both had chances but good defending from both sides. Fair result and we move up to 9th place for a couple of hours at least

Van der Vaart is a knob. Just had to get that in there.

Getting worried about our injury list again, Yak limped off today as well as Coleman, Arteta out, Heitinga, Cahill, and Jags all not 100%, Rodwell, Anichebe, Osman, Fellani, all out for a few weeks at least. Starting to look like last year.

Still, unbeaten and only 1 goal conceded in last 4 games, happy enough with that all things considered :)

How bad were West Ham? They couldn't even pass to their teammates in that 2nd half. Preston won against Palace despite nearly throwing away a 4-1 lead, limping over the line 4-3. Swansea kept up their good form and moved into 3rd, they look like a good team and could be the first Welsh team to play in the Premier League.

Tomorrow, I think Stoke City will 'Stokify' Man United. The match will either end in a draw or a Stoke win, can't see Man United winning. Liverpool will lose 3-1 at home to Blackburn and Roy Hodgson will be sacked and replaced with Rijkaard after the match in my opinion. Celtic will be beatan 3-0 at home in the 'Old Firm' derby. And Man City will beat Arsenal with Arsenal have all the possession but not managing to score enough goals.

The Reds boss can splash £30m in January's transfer window, after thrashing out the financial package in top-level talks with the club's new American owners, John W Henry and Tom Werner.

There will be a further £30m advance for the summer sales and Hodgson has earmarked the defence as his main problem area.

Boss Roy Hodgson has been handed a £60 million transfer warchest.

The Reds boss can splash £30m in January's transfer window, after thrashing out the financial package in top-level talks with the club's new American owners, John W Henry and Tom Werner.

There will be a further £30m advance for the summer sales and Hodgson has earmarked the defence as his main problem area.

Ashley Young would be a great signing..
I think You should go for Fernando Llorente 6 goals already this season (second in la liga) would work great with torres and a great attacking option.

Glad Cardiff won the Leeds 4-0 and now level with QPR:D.

Liking that CR7 is banging the goals at Madrid, as much as I dislike them I always hope he always does well.. apart from if they ever get United in Champions League;).
Smashing it 10 goals, double messi...

Arsène Wenger believes Samir Nasri has everything.

The French midfielder has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers this season, scoring seven times in his last seven appearances including the opening goal in the 3-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Wenger insists Nasri’s impact at important moments added to his obvious natural ability mean he has become vital to the Arsenal team.

“When you analyse Samir Nasri he has all the qualities and he now adds efficiency to his game and that makes him a great player,” said the manager.

“He scores goals, he gives assists, he can go one against one, he can pass, he is all that you dream to have as a football player.

“I am convinced [he is a better player than when he came here] because he is more efficient in creating chances, in the final balls, his vision has improved and he is quicker playing forward.”

Liverpool and Tottenham are set to battle for Atletico Madrid star Diego Forlan in January after the striker revealed he would be interested in moving to either club.

Goal.com UK has learned that the Uruguayan striker is targeting a move to England after setting his heart on a return to the Premier League when the transfer window re-opens.

It is understood Atletico are reluctant to sell the former Manchester United flop but both Liverpool and Spurs have been made aware of the £15 million-rated striker's availability.

Arsenal will easily beat West Ham 2-0 with goals from Nasri. Chelsea will beat Blackburn 2-1 after coming from behind. Everton and Fulham will both beat Stoke and Wigan. Man City will beat Wolves 1-0. Tottenham will take the lead against Man United but Man United will get a penalty late on because Crouch will look at the referee wrong. Man United will then miss it but the referee will ask it to be taken again due to to him missing. They will then score it.

In the Championship, Cardiff will draw 0-0 with Norwich. Swansea will continue their good run by beating relegation favourites Crystal Palace 5-0. Hmmm yeah I agree, we have got players all over the park who can score goals, but at times again today I thought we were gonna have one of those games where we couldn't find the back of the net. If Yak came back into the form of his first season with us I wouldn't be so concerned. Would need him to be banging them in to get decent money for him if he wanted to go, Saha wouldn't bring us much return, only player who would right now who has spoken about maybe leaving is Heitinga, would pick Fellani over him any day anyway, and we could get a decent striker with that money. Everton have agreed terms with Azerbaijan teen sensation Araz Abdullayev, his club Neftchi Baku have confirmed.

The 18-year-old midfielder will start on an initial three-year contract, with the option for two more seasons, when the transfer window opens in January.

The move is subject to a work permit, but his status as an emerging talent who was capped internationally at just 16 stands in him good stead and Neftchi expects no problems.

Sportsmail first revealed Everton’s interest in July and Neftchi say an agreement was reached after talks at the weekend.

Abdullayev has signed a preliminary agreement, which should be formalised in the next 10 days, and his club will only receive a substantial fee if he catches the eye in England.

Neftchi vice-president Tahir Suleymanov said: ‘We did not plan to earn from Araz Abdullayev because our concerns are about the development of Azerbaijani football. But if he moves from Everton to another club, Neftchi will receive some of the fee.’

Abdullayev shot to prominence when scoring for his country’s Under 21s against Scotland.

Timmy Cahill is the best header in the game. It's official :)

"If the law of averages prevails then the corner flag at the Stadium of Light will be in for a serious beating in a few weeks’ time.

In theory, Blues midfielder Tim Cahill would have just maintained his ratio of notching a headed goal every 6.4 Premier League games and the Aussie will be celebrating in familiar style.

Following his headed goal in the dying moments at Birmingham City last month, Cahill now has 27 headed goals in 174 appearances in the top flight.

And that ratio of one every 6.4 games makes him officially the most lethal header of a ball since the Premier League began in 1992.

Not even famed exponents of the booming header like Alan Shearer or Blues legend Duncan Ferguson found the net with their head as regularly as the 5ft 10ins hitman.

“It came as a bit of a surprise to me to find out, but it is something I am very, very proud of,” Cahill told the Evertonian. "It is massive honour, but it isn’t something that happens on its own.

“It happens with the help of the players I have around me. I always talk about Bainesy, and he is very important to me, but it is the whole team as well.

"Players like Phil Neville and Mikel Arteta, the whole team in fact – they all provide me with the opportunities to score. So as long as I can keep doing it, great.”

A glance at the top 10 shows that not only is Cahill is the only midfielder, he is one of only two on the list who are under six-foot tall.

He puts his aerial excellence down to two things - footballing intelligence and, more importantly, practice.

“I suppose I started young and scored a lot of headed goals as a youngster and I worked hard. I was scoring goals with my head long before I was at Everton, even before Millwall, when I was back in Australia.

“Working on my technique, doing basic training with Steve Round, getting crosses in with Bainesy, Phil Neville, Seamus or whoever, these are all things which help me.

“Working hard on your fitness is important too to keep you going and to make sure you keep making the runs when someone else is tired and blowing.

“It is all about timing also,” he added. “You watch the greats like Lineker, Shearer and Platt and they were great players who arrived late into the box.

“I think for me, I just never give up. I am always trying to make that run at the right time. People may think I have got no hope of getting there and suddenly the ball hits the back of the net. It is all about making sure I make the right run.”

The earlier mention of Leighton Baines is also telling. Another staggering statistic shows that of Cahill’s last 15 goals for Everton, nine have been supplied by the left back.

Everton's Tim Cahill has been assisted in nine of his last 15 goals by teammate Leighton Baines

It’s a contribution which hasn’t escaped the attention of the grateful recipient.

“Bainesy is an exceptional player,” he says. “I think I'm lucky because I've got a relationship with him where we work together a lot on the pitch to try to make things happen.

“But I think I am lucky as well because he's got that special left foot which can create chances and put those chances on a plate - hopefully for myself to finish.

“He's a great player and someone who is not only effective in defending but going forward as well - he does give us that different dimension.

“I'm very happy to have someone like that on my side because I rely on him a hell of a lot.”

Don't be stupid, as a team they are one of the worst in europe

Totally agree. Can't wait till England put 5 past them in March.

Chelsea comfortably through to the Last 16. Arsenal lose but will surely annihilate Partizan at the Emirates in a few weeks. Tottenham's result last night means they have a better head to head record than Inter. So if they can win their remaining two games they will win the group which would mean they would be seeded in the Last 16 and play the 2nd leg at home. It would be a great if they could get to the Q-F and got drawn to play against Arsenal. Real Madrid got a last minute equalizer against AC Milan which sent Mourinho running down the touceline in celebration.

Phil Neville has taken over Twitter, this has been going on since the Spurs game Tuesday night and he was still #4 in the worldwide trending topics yesterday

Everton skipper Phil Neville yesterday became an unwitting internet phenomenon as he emerged as one of the hottest trends worldwide on social networking site Twitter.

Sat at home watching Tottenham’s Gareth Bale destroy Inter Milan and Brazil right-back Maicon on Tuesday – and probably feeling quite pleased with his own recent display against the electric Bale – the Blues defender was no doubt blissfully unaware of the storm brewing in cyberspace.

With tweets raining in to praise Welsh wonderkid Bale, Evertonians – and football fans in general – waded in to point out how the 33-year-old Neville had succeeded where the hapless Brazilian had failed.

The result was a comic frenzy with users attempting to out-quip each other with Neville being portrayed as a superhero following his shackling of the Spurs winger.

The former England man became the hottest topic in the UK before trending worldwide, leaving bemused internet users across the globe asking: ‘Who is this Phil Neville!?’

Even Landon Donovan cottoned on to the surge of interest in his former teammate, tweeting: ‘Phil Neville is trending?!? What has this world come to?!?!?!?’

Log on to Twitter to follow Phil’s conquering of cyberspace, and make sure you follow @youreverton for updates all day every day from Goodison Park.

Below are some of the more amusing Phil Neville tweets.

EFC_Tanuki: ‘The Queen sings God Save Phil Neville.’

ste butler: ‘Death once had a near Phil Neville experience.’

SenorDawes: ‘Phil Neville doesn't mow his lawn, he dares his grass to grow.’
