I really hope Birmingham pull it off jf, having said that, I would prefer to see them come back up to the Premiership rather than a tiring run in with the FA Cup competition too.If they stay in the play off places for promotion they are going to have extra games to play there as well. Of course I would also love to see both happen though, promotion and the Cup.

LEE McCULLOCH last night offered to play for Rangers for free until the club has emerged from its financial crisis.

And Record Sport understands the veteran has also made it clear that, even though he could end up more than a quarter of a million pounds out of pocket, he will not expect any of his money back after the club is in the hands of new owners.
The extraordinary move will place the administrators under enormous pressure not to bullet McCulloch this morning when they arrive at Murray Park to start tapping manager Ally McCoist’s players on the shoulder as part of a swingeing cost-cutting plan to save £1m a month.
We can also reveal that McCoist has agreed to sign an identical deal to help spare as many of his players as possible from the firing squad.
But McCulloch’s remarkable pledge to pay to play for the jersey – waiving his contractual right to a wage of around £20,000 a week, while placing himself at risk of injury – may even have stunned the men from Duff and Phelps who had placed his name on a list of 11 top targets.
McCulloch instructed Players’ Union chief Fraser Wishart to make the formal offer to the
administrators yesterday as the clock ticked down to this morning’s expected Murray Park cull.
We understand at least four other players have also been in talks with Wishart over the weekend, offering to do what they can to help save jobs.
But the 33-year-old is the only one so far who has volunteered to go without any kind of pay.
Union bosses were furious on Friday when the administrators turned down an offer for the entire playing staff to take 75 per cent deferrals on their wages.
They believe the money that would have saved would have been more than enough to keep the club in business until the end of the season.
And they warned any compromise deals will be removed if even one of McCoist’s men is shown the door today.
They have also been angered by a warning from the administrators that, even after some contracts have been terminated, huge mandatory pay cuts could still be enforced on those players who remain.
The news of McCulloch’s pledge came as Paul Murray, whose Blue Knights consortium is believed to be the club’s best hope of avoiding liquidation, was in talks with the administrators, urging them to limit the job losses.
Murray met with top brass from Duff and Phelps at Ibrox on Saturday to continue his efforts to rescue Rangers from the hands of disgraced owner Craig Whyte.
After learning of McCulloch’s intentions last night Murray pleaded with the money men to see sense.
The former Deutsche Bank high-flyer told Record Sport: “If it is true that one of our players has offered to make such a massive financial sacrifice for the good of the club the administrators are professionally and morally obliged to accept it.
“My first reaction to this is that Lee McCulloch epitomises everything that Rangers Football Club is about. It’s about people like Lee and Ally McCoist – people who love the club and are prepared to do anything they can to defend the club and to save the club. It’s an incredible gesture.”
McCoist wants as many of his players as possible to be saved as he bids to secure a second-place finish in the SPL, worth around £900,000.
McCulloch has emerged as a key man, having played as a stand-in striker after the sale of Nikica Jelavic to Everton and injuries to Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith.

So AVB sacked, not surprised but Chelsea and Roman Abramovich are a joke how much more managers are they going to go through and get rid after? RA is too nosey in the footballing matters and that causes tensions with managers, but not if you have a good chairman.

"Can anybody argue [against the fact] that the Liverpool fans love me? No," said Benítez. "If we agree with this, what do you want for somebody who you love? The best for him. I cannot be waiting at home for five years. Everybody understands that I will need a job.

"If they want me to have the best, they can say you can manage a team at the bottom of the table or manage a team at a top of the table and try to win trophies. That is my idea, to have the option of a top side and try to win trophies. If they love me, they will understand.

"I have had two or three offers from clubs and one from a national team. I want to win trophies; it's not just a case of wanting a job and having some money. It has to be something. They have now Roberto Di Matteo in [temporary] charge, and I have to respect the manager in charge. I have to wait and [see] if something happens in the future. As a manager with experience in the Champions League, in Spain and in Italy, I am open to offers."

Rafa wouldn't last as long as AVB at Chelsea. He'd be a great manager for them if they gave him time and let him rebuild. But they won't. Their fans hate him already. That's what happens when small time clubs are propelled into the big leagues, their fans develop an overnight belief they should be winning everything.

Real Madrid won 3-2 away against Real Betis.

They went 1-0 down but Gonzalo Higuain scored. Cristiano Ronaldo then scored and then the home side scored to make it 2-2; finally CR7 scored the last goal of the match to make the gap between Madrid and Barcelona 13 points till tomorrow when Barca play.

Hardly a surprise, unfortunately. The way he's been castigated this year has been appalling, and he must look around the dressing room, and think he's wasting his career at Liverpool. So much mediocrity, it's frightening.

No, not this season. I used to go in O'neils last season, and GH's reign. It was dire then, so I don't blame you for staying away. It was never a good idea to appoint the Birmingham manager, but x 2 when you know the football his teams play is so bad.

Don't think even Kenny or Comolli could say that Carroll is/was worth £35 million, but the statement had to be made after losing Torres really. If anything you have it the wrong way around, he came back into the side just intime for the big games against City in the Carling Cup and Utd in the FA Cup, both of which we won while keeping our hit and miss league form, continued that form on for the next few weeks and then win the carling cup, then he gets injured on International duty, then we lose to Arsenal, and then he manages a small cameo in the loss to Sunderland at the weekend

When the club wastes £20m on a winger with no pace, skill or trickery, then they are forced to play him ahead of Maxi who was excellent towards the end of last season with his movement and intelligence.

If Kenny is playing Maxi, that's admitting he ****ed up over Downing. I don't think FSG would be happy to see their money sat on the bench and players from last seasons squad (which weren't good enough either) getting in the team ahead of him.

Maxi isn't even getting a look in from the bench though, he has only managed 5 starts an 2 sub appearances in the league all season. Worse than that he still manages to be our joint 4th top scorer with 2 goals :joker:

I know, mate. It's ****ing bizarre. I think Kenny probably needs to move back upstairs at the end of the season. Our style of play has improved under him, but we can't risk one more summer of Average/British players being signed to flood out the squad. FSG aren't mega wealthy, and they've said lots of times we will only be spending what we make, which means we'll be getting no more than £10-15m each summer.

I think they wanted to make an impact last summer, and that's why we spent so much, + we had the £15m left over from Torres/Carroll deal.

They can't afford to build the new stadium we need, and they can't afford to throw money at the team. Nothing has really changed.

Maxi Rodriguez is a good player, agree about him not being used enough for Liverpool. He was impressive at Atletico Madrid!

Tomas Rosicky has signed a new deal at Arsenal.

Some Liverpool fans claiming Suarez was misunderstood communication wise in that French TV interview RE Lugano and PSG.

I think Arsenal vs Newcastle will be interesting tonight, cannot predict the result.

Rosicky's not even that good. Just had a good few games, he's one of the players I'd get rid of if they had an overhaul

He's not the best Midfielder in the world but he works hard. I thought he was terrific when he was at Dortmund.

The current Dortmund team is amazing though.

From Sky Sports News:

Aston Villa have reached a pre-contract agreement with Australia and AZ Alkmaar player Brett Holman.

Yeah, Dortmund are my German team

I prefer Bayern Munich, however, they are a close second:D.
