The thing I've always found with Babel is when he plays he either has an A game or a D game. He rarely has a game where he just does 'alright', he's either amazing or has a shocker. I'm don't really mind him going, but only because I can't wait for a Torres Suarez partnership upfront.

Don't get your hopes up yet because Ajax are demanding a big sum of money and at this rate Man City will make an offer just to get one over you lot:rolleyes:.

I liked Babel, shame really Benitez didn't play him much but I hope he gets back to the player he once was at Ajax:).

The atmosphere from Leeds was superb last night, a proper football ground and proper supporters. Leeds are a hated club but their support is brilliant - more or less the whole ground was stood up.

Must have been a bit of a shock for the Arsenal fans used to the library week in week out. Highbury was great though.

Fair result. Bendtner was the worst player on the pitch by a mile.

David Wheater has signed for Bolton from Middlesbrough, which could pave the way for 25 year-old centre-back Gary Cahill to join Arsenal.

Bolton have serious debt problems and Cahill could earn the club an initial £10 million, as well as add ons. Bolton were initially unwilling to sell for less than £17 million, but they now appear to be more willing.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen up their defence, especially after recent injuries to the likes of Sebastian Squillaci and Thomas Vermaelen. Cahill, who has one cap for England, could be the perfect addition to Wenger's squad. The centre-back has a no nonsense style and has the tough mentality Arsenal need if they want to break their trophy drought.

Villa to offer Arsenal 'keeper fresh start
Gerard Houllier interested in bringing out of favour Arsenal star to Villa Park

Manuel Almunia could be leaving Arsenal during the transfer window, but staying in the Premier League, with Aston Villa looking to give the Spaniard a chance to prove himself again.

A number of high profile errors cost Almunia his first team place and now Lukas Fabianski is Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper.

Villa's current number one, Brad Friedel, is 40 in May and is expected to retire in the distant future despite not missing a game since 2005 and with fellow veteren Andy Marshall the American's follow up, Houllier needs to invest in younger goalkeepers.

He's definately not as bad as people make out.

After he inspired the Gunners to an FA Cup third-round replay win over Leeds, the United defender hailed the Frenchman as a leading contender for player of the year.

Gareth Bale
Carlos Tevez
Nemanja Vidic
Samir Nasri

Bacary Sagna has hailed the form of Arsenal teammate Samir Nasri.

Sagna believes Nasri is in contention for this season's Player of the Year award for his sizzling performances.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has already heaped massive praise on Nasri by saying he should win the coveted award.

And Sagna added: "Coming from a player like Rio, that is a great compliment for Samir.

"Samir's been doing it all season for us.

"He's at the top his form and if he keeps playing like this, then he will be the best player this season."

I agree with Rio about Nasri:). I also think he's had a better season than Bale who IMO does deserve the praise he's getting but they need to be careful now of not overhyping the guy as theres enough pressure for Spurs at the moment...

Nasri 28 games 14 goals 3 assists

Bale 30 games 11 goals (unsure how many assists)

More surprisingly walcott ( who has played 21 hours less football than bale which is 14 games less, and only has 22 as he has been a sub in so many games)

Walcott 22 games 10 goals 6 assists

Fabregas 21 games 7 goals 10 assists.

Comment: Rampant Robin Van Persie Can Make All The Difference To Arsenal's Premier League Challenge - If He Stays Fit
Dutchman must be used wisely after hitting first hat-trick in England

Lille midfielder Eden Hazard has been confirmed as a transfer target for Arsenal by Manager Arsene Wenger.

Talking on French TV programme Telefoot, the Arsenal Manager admitted that he is interested in the 20-year-old Belgium international.

Wenger said: “He is a player that I have followed for some time, but I do not want to destabilise Lille right now. When he is available for transfer, we will see if there is the possibility to sign him.

Arsenal are close to ending the much anticipated transfer speculation surrounding 17-year-old teenage sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as they prepare to win the chase with a £10 million bid – according to a report in The Daily Mail.

England’s elite clubs have been tracking the Southampton wonderkid, with reported interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Oxlade-Chamberlain visited Arsenal’s training ground on Friday and met with manager Arsene Wenger and will sign for the Gunners following successful discussions with the club’s director on Wednesday.

It is thought that only a last-minute offer from Manchester City can disrupt the move, as the teenager’s advisors will choose the club whom they believe will best help him develop.

Arsenal lead the race, as they previously dealt with Southampton for Theo Walcott – who has emerged as one of the Gunners’ most promising prospects.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will move for Eden Hazard when Lille make him available for transfer.

The French tactician is a long-term admirer of the Belgian winger and is keen to bring him to Emirates Stadium.

The 20-year-old starlet has already made over 100 appearances for the Ligue 1 club and been part of the first team for over three years.

However, Wenger is in no rush to get his man and with Lille riding high at the summit of the table he is against unsettling the league leaders' squad.

"He's a player that I have followed for some time, but I do not want to unsettle Lille now," explained Wenger.

"When he is available for transfer, we will see if there is the possibility to sign him."

Coyle: I love watching Arsenal; it's the way football should be played

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has revealed his admiration for the way Arsenal play football and has backed Arsene Wenger’s side to end their five-year trophy hiatus.
The former Burnley boss has reinvigorated the Trotters brand of football since succeeding Gary Megson at the Reebok Stadium in January last year, and Coyle suggests he is a football purist in the same vein as Arsene Wenger.
Coyle believes the brand of football currently being executed by the North London Premier League side and also Barcelona, “is the way football should be played” and although he is by no means suggesting Bolton are on a par with the aforementioned vaunted sides, it is clear where his inspirations lie.
Speaking about his own footballing philosophy, Coyle told the Times: “I’m not going to overburden players,
“If they have deficiencies, which we all have, we will work on that.
“But equally, when they go out to play, I can’t have them caught up in what they’re poor at because ultimately that makes them nervous and leads to mistakes.
“They need to feel, ‘I want to go out an express myself. I’m going to put my best foot forward.’
He continued: “I love watching Arsenal. I watched them at Leeds last week and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
“That, for me, is the way football should be played. I love everything about the way they play.
“Arsène Wenger and the job he has done is fantastic.
“I know people always say the thing about a lack of trophies, but I’m sure they can be among the trophies this year.
“Barcelona, they take that three-yard pass in the middle of a crowded pitch, which is the hardest pass in football, and are effortless at it.
“For the purist in us all, it’s an unbelievable way to play football.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tips Cesc Fabregas to be future captain of Spain
Gunners boss praises his 'absolutely fantastic' skipper

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised Cesc Fabregas' leadership skills, stating his belief that the 23-year-old will one day captain his country.

Wenger's comments come after Denilson last week suggested that his midfield partner wasn't a leader, but following a superb performance against Wigan at the Emirates on Saturday, the Gunners boss, who gave the Spaniard the armband when he was only 20, has hailed his captain.

He told the club's official website: "His character. [He is] strong, strong mentally. And his intelligence.

"He understands very quickly and he has a huge desire to win. He is ready to die to win. When a guy turns up at 16 or 17 and everybody gives him the ball, he has some natural charisma. I believe he will be an outstanding leader and he will lead the national team in Spain without any problem.

"At 16, he was shy. I do not believe in being a born leader but you can see that the qualities are there or someone can develop into a leader. You learn that. Overall, one of the leaderships he has is on the football pitch - that strengthens your belief he can lead the team.

"What people forget he is 23 years old. I have been 23. What he does on the football pitch at that age, as a leader, is absolutely fantastic."

The highly-rated England centre-back, 25, will get the chance to impress one of his suitors tonight when Chelsea head to the Reebok.

"There's no doubt in my mind he'll go to a bigger and better club. no offence to Bolton. I'm expecting him to go but you can't put a timeline on it.

Dutchman praises team-mates' efforts during scoring run

France legend Zinedine Zidane believes Arsenal’s Samir Nasri is the future of the French National side as he described the 23-year old as the “greatest hope” for the future of his country.

Manchester United have made a late bid to hijack Alex Chamberlain’s £10m move to Arsenal, according to The Sun.
A source inside the club said: “The boss (Sir Alex Ferguson) has made his move and now it’s down to the lad and his family to decide – but United are a massive club to turn down.”

The Arsenal goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has warned Ipswich Town they can park the bus, or as many tractors as they want, in front of their goal at Emirates Stadium tonight, but Arsenal will break through the barrier and reach the Carling Cup final. Ipswich defend a 1-0 lead from the first leg at Portman Road after a below-par Arsenal were beaten by Tamas Priskin's second-half goal. The Championship club's defender Damien Delaney has said "we will go and park the bus in front of the goal at the Emirates".

Szczesny said: "We have a team from the Championship coming to the Emirates and they probably won't fancy it too much, but we fancy our chances and are confident we will go through. We are Arsenal and believe we can beat anybody. They have a one-goal advantage which they will try to defend, but as soon as we score the first goal it will be downhill for them. We just have to break them down and score as many goals as we can. We are confident we can turn this around."

Reported Arsenal target Siaka Tiene has his sights set on a move to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT, the versatile Paris Saint-Germain defender is ready to seal a switch to England, and has his heart set on one club in particular.

"Nothing is going to prevent me playing in the Premier League. I dream about playing in England.

"I have always seen Arsene Wenger's teams play and it excites me."

Whether the 28-year-old Ivorian's "come and get me" plea will be heeded by the Arsenal boss remains to be seen, but he is known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements.

Liverpool hoping Ajax striker Luis Suárez pushes for a move as Ryan Babel departs for Hoffenheim
Liverpool’s hopes of signing Uruguay international Luis Suárez depend on the player following Charlie Adam’s lead and agitating for a move.

If they actually get him, i think liverpool will be a lot more dominant..

All the paper talk about Suarez is a load of crap, it will be like the Babel deal.. nothing at all will be known because that's how things are being run here now.. Frustrating for the fans but in the end it's worth it.

I think we will get him though, it's all gone on too long, if we weren't willing to meet their valuation we'd have pulled out ages ago.

Oh, and we wouldn't have let Babel go if we aren't sure of a replacement either, and Suarez plays in the same position.

Arsenal striker Carlos Vela has agreed to sign for Valencia on loan, according to TalkSport who have cited reports in Spain.

Those reports claim that Valencia officials were in London last week to try and finalise the deal and it now looks as though it is all but completed.
The Mexican international is currently Arsene Wenger's fifth-choice striker behind Robin Van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner, Theo Walcott and Marouane Chamakh and he has started only three Premier League games in three seasons at Arsenal.

Wenger has openly stated that he wants Vela to go on loan but only to a club that will play him whenever possible.

Wenger also revealed that he received numerous enquiries from Premier League clubs for the striker, but it seems La Liga club Valencia have won the race to sign him.

Vela endured loan spells in Spain earlier in his career, at Osasuna and Celta Vigo, and is set to sign a six-month loan deal at the Mestalla.

Vela has made 34 appearances for Mexico scoring nine goals and was part of
the South American team's World Cup squad in South Africa last year. He started both group games before missing the final one through injury. He was an unused substitute in Mexico's defeat to Argentina at the last-16 stage.

Rangers eye Pompey's Hreidarsson as Arsenal weigh up move for Bougherra

Bougherra would walk into the Arsenal team, he is worth at least 10 Mil as well even Xavi said he would be good enough to play for Barcelona

Hreidarsson would be a decent replacement but he's getting on a bit now, him on Weir at the back would have a combined age of 75

Ipswich tried to destroy Fabregas 100%...

They commited more fouls on fabregas than the whole rest of the Arsenal team, and thats not including a few that wernt given, like when 3 guys all took him and landed on him..

Ref was okay that match really wasnt card happy which was good koscielny's card was harsh, but the only problem i had was Arsenal play a through ball it hits the ref, drops to another Arsenal player... he gives ipswich a free kick for getting an advantage through him, then changed it to a drop ball, worst decision in a while.

And the co commontator was licking ipswich.

Still they got taught a lesson in the end.

""That is our challenge and I demand the total help of our supporters in doing that. My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals."

Since then things have only been on the up for the club and for Torres himself.

Now he hands in a transfer request and wants to go to ****ing Chelsea. Ridiculous. Transfer request has been rejected anyway, " "Fernando is under long-term contract and the Club expect him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed in principle to join Arsenal and is set to link up with the Premier League club in the summer, Goal.com UK can reveal.

Arsenal and Southampton were today locked in talks over the structure of the deal, which will be worth £10 million including performance and appearance-related add-ons.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s switch will be completed either today with a loan back to St Mary’s until the end of the season or a pre-agreement will be put in place for the teen sensation to move to the Gunners in the summer.

It is understood that Manchester City have been the only club other than Arsenal to table a formal bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain but the 17-year-old was not interested in moving to the City of Manchester Stadium and was concerned by the army of talent blocking his path to the first team.

MEGA FAIL

Fabregas incited the rage of Huddersfield’s fans when he appeared to be trying to get the referee to send off McCombe by waving an imaginary red card at him. Fabregas then converted the penalty that saw Arsenal win 2-1. It was not exactly a good-natured game but events after the final whistle led to Hudderfield Town’s Anthony Pilkington accusing Fabregas of disrespecting two of his teammates by refusing to swap shirts. Pilkington then accused Fabregas on Twitter saying, “2 lads asked him for his shirt and he told them to ***** off!! Sick player but what a tit!”

Arsenal countered the claims by saying that Fabregas had in fact given two of his shirts to opposing team members and Pilkington has now shut his Twitter account down and apologized. If you want to read more about the Arsenal vs. Huddersfield game then head to the match report on BBC Sport.

What are your thoughts of Fabregas being on the receiving end of such criticism by another player on Twitter? Do you think it’s a classic case of tweeting before you think? We’d like to hear your opinions so please do send us your comments.

Bummer...

Arsenal are believed to have been unsuccessful with a bid to sign Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been keen to try and strengthen his defence during the transfer window and 25-year-old Albiol was linked with a move to the Gunners earlier this month.

The Spain international has failed to secure a regular first-team place at the Bernabeu this season under Jose Mourinho after being a major part of former coach Manuel Pellegrini's back four last year.

But with Mourinho instead handing more starts to Pepe, Albiol is believed to be available should clubs make an offer before tonight's transfer deadline.

Reports in Spain on Monday suggested an offer had been made but that Arsenal are unwilling to meet the centre-back's wage demands to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

Andy Carroll poised to join Liverpool to replace Fernando Torres as Newcastle accept offer of £35m

Andy Carroll is on the verge of joining Liverpool after the club improved their offer for the Newcastle United striker to £35 million, a price at which Newcastle will sell, dependent of Fernando Torres completing his move to Chelsea.

By Rory Smith 3:02PM GMT 31 Jan 2011

Liverpool had an offer of £25 million rejected earlier today and were told that they would have to pay a further £10 million to land the forward.

The club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, are now thought to have agreed to meet that price, though no final agreement has yet been struck.

A deal will only go through, though, should Chelsea sign Torres. The Spanish international left Melwood, Liverpool’s training base, at lunchtime, though he has not yet travelled to London as reported.

Chelsea have seen two bids, worth £28m and £35m, rejected and will have to come far closer to Liverpool’s £50 million valuation to secure the player.

Yes hes good but id rather have benzema for 30 or Rossi 32m..

Real only have 3 strikers fit at the minute, Adebayor on loan, Ronaldo (who is mainly played as a winger I think), and Benzema, they wouldn't consider any offers for him til the summer. Doubt Rossi would come here he played for Utd.

Does he have the qualities to be a truly world class player though?, there would be lots of apologising for his critics to do if he does the business but the fee is absurd.

If Andy Carroll is supposedly worth £41 million then Villa is worth double but Liverpool only 6 points off 4th place, however IMHO I can't see you guys finishing above Spurs as I think they have a stronger side but with how this league is going anything is possible:).

Yeah he was quality, not just because he scored either his movement and passing were very similar to what Torres was like in his first season here. Kelly has been our best defender this season, think he is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the first team week in week out now unless he is injured.

Yep and the fact that Hamilton lose like every game is handy, between tonights morale boosting performance and our 6 new signings it should be enough for us to stay up comfortably, hopefully we can go a step further and start climbing up it.

Too right i was, they keep kidding themselves that they are title contenders but they got hammered by Celtic last Wednesday and beat by the Gers tonight so hopefully i'll hear less of their pish at school now. Think it's the first time this season we won and they lost, what a great feeling!

Ciaran Clark is a top class defender, you can tell that because he can play anywhere across the back 4. Shame he chose to represent Ireland because he would of been a future England starter for sure. Capello and the FA dropping the ball once again. Hope he doesn't go to someone like United in the summer, and if he did he would be worth at least 15m

Wonder what all the people who said Bent wasn't worth 18-24m think now? Bargain in comparison to a 35mill youngster who's had one good half-season.

Best signing is going to be Michael Bradley, going to boss our midfield, great energy and work ethic.
