And Babel nice finish, but still not close to a finished product needed to be played more like the last 2 years.

Bellamy will tear it up in the Championship. He can be billy big balls at Cardiff rather than a squad member anywhere else. No ambition.

I've always liked Ryan Babel:D.

For once Craig Bellamy has sense where he's at a club which he will get lots of first team football, his family lives locally and the training ground is right on his doorstep LOL.

Hope Villa make it into the Europa League, draw is a risk so far.

Arsenal Line Up Impressive £22m Pair Bid: Wenger to Launch Move for Keeper and Centre Back

Arsenal have set their sights on Dutch international keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The 27-year-old stopper has been linked with an Ajax exit this summer, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is set to make the player his new No.1 target as his search for a goalkeeper continues.

Wenger is also reportedly considering a move for Stekelenburg’s Ajax teammate Jan Vertonghen who was part of the Dutch giants quality centre defensive partnership with a certain Thomas Vermaelen who has of course been a major success at the Emirates since his move to the club last summer. Vertonghen also plays alongside Vermaelen in the Belgian national team set up.

Ajax are in financial dire straits and have admitted they could sell some of their squad before the transfer window closes as they look to make up for big losses incurred over the past few seasons. The club is hoping to negotiate their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kiev.

Bellars scored a screamer on his debut and we ripped a good side apart. Burke played fcking fantastic and it puzzles me why DJ wants to keep him on the bench. Defence played excellent, most solid they've looked in a long time! Hudson was great and I think not wearing the armband anymore makes him a better player as there's less pressure on him. Naylor had a good debut too, he's not match fit but defended well and kept his footing, and played some lovely attacking stuff down the left linking up with Bellamy well. Can't wait for Pompey away next week, same performance again please boys!

Sebastien Squillaci set for Arsenal as Sevilla confirm £6.5m deal for defender

Sevilla have confirmed they have accepted a £6.5million offer from Arsenal for defender Sebastien Squillaci.

The Frenchman is currently en route to England for a medical on Monday with a view to signing for the Gunners ahead of next Tuesday's transfer deadline.

A statement on the Sevilla website read: 'Defender Sebastien Squillaci is tonight travelling to London to have a medical at Arsenal, the club he will be transferred to after an agreement was reached by the two clubs pending the results of the medical.'

Squillaci, 30, will strengthen an Arsenal rearguard weakened by the departures of William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos if he does put pen to paper and complete a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The former Lyon centre-half, who joined Sevilla from Les Gones two years ago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-off against Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for European competition.

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor admits he may leave the club in January if he is not a regular starter at Eastlands.

The controversial former Arsenal striker was on the bench for City’s opening Premier League encounter with Tottenham Hotspur and although he has since discussed his future with Roberto Mancini, the towering Togolese star has been linked with AC Milan and Real Madrid and admits first team football is a prerequisite for him to stay.

Arsenal plot shock move for Mexican international
Arsenal - Efrain Juarez a reported Emirates target
The 22-year-old midfielder has made an instant impact at Celtic after joining the Scottish side this summer, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be interested in bringing the versatile youngster to the Emirates.

AC Milan are poised to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic an escape route from Barcelona in a deal that could see the Spanish champions make one last effort to sign Cesc Fabregas before the transfer deadline.
The Sweden striker is keen on a return to the city of Milan after his £45million move from Inter last summer, with Barca coach Pep Guardiola happy to allow him to leave.
His exit would make room for Fabregas by cutting £8m off the wage bill, giving president Sandro Rosell a reason to go back to Arsenal so he could fulfil his election pledge by taking Fabregas to the Nou Camp.

Chelsea to Make Record Breaking £33m Bid for Real Madrid Man: Ancelotti Lines Up Sergio Ramos!! Move

Chelsea are reportedly set to make a massive €40-million bid for Real Madrid right-back Sergio Ramos .
According to the Marca, Blues chief Roman Abramovich is ready to offer the 24-year-old a huge five-year contract worth €10 million per season.

Ramos was one of Spain’s best players in the World Cup, essential at both ends of the pitch.

With his power and pace, Ramos is been very tough to beat at the back. He is an enthusiastic player, who is good in the air and never shies away from a challenge. He is exceedingly comfortable on the ball, and drives forward at every opportunity, giving his side an excellent option out wide.

We won't do it automatically cos we always fall at the final hurdle. Burnley would have if they had a better manager, Laws is tactically inept and tends to make dodgy decisions, I reckon they'll be about 6th. QPR have looked good tbf but they always start off well then drift into midtable, but Warnock's a great manager and could be the man they need to take them up.

Boro will rape the championship soon, they are starting to play together as a team now, Boyd and Mcdonald up front will score the goals for them, Robson, Arca, O'Neill, Thomson, in midfield are all quality players, they will defiantly go up, Boyd should be playing in the premiership.. and could have went in the summer but choose to play for Boro,

1st - Middlesbrough
2nd - Burnley
Play Off's - QPR/Ipswich/Cardiff/Preston - QPR will win the play off's

Boro are shyte. I watch this league week in week out and there's no way they're going up. Boyd is terrible, even saying he should be a Prem player is ridiculous because he can't even handle the Championship.

We have the best attack in the league by far and arguably the best midfield as well. A new solid and mobile center half to parter Hudson and we'll have the best defence as well.

Villa's 6-0 defeat.

Have the players been on the pi$$ for the last 2 weeks since O'Neill went, or is Stephen Ireland a cuckoo in the nest, upsetting the apple cart? He does seem to have a huge ego and be barking nuts as well. He seems to have taken a leaf out of fellow Corkonian Roy Keane's book and run with it, wrt playing for his country.

Because we have other new players in the squad as well as Bellamy? We'll go up this season, the league is weaker than last year and we easily have the strongest squad in it.

With Sebastien Squillaci looking likely to move to Arsenal, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to Roma defender Juan, according to Sky Sports.

Squillaci will move to North London later on this week, with Sevilla holding out for the best possible price they can get for their French defender.

And with Laurent Koscielny already signed from Lorient, Wenger is eyeing his third central defender of the summer in Brazilian Juan.

Everton boss David Moyes is heading the chase for Peter Crouch - and will let Tottenham have contract rebel Steven Pienaar in exchange.

Moyes has been chasing England target man Crouch for a month after finding out who could be available as Harry Redknapp wheels and deals to get the men he wants.

Now the clubs are in advance talks about brokering a move that would see South African midfielder Pienaar go to Spurs - with the size of fees being discussed and decided.

Redknapp likes Pienaar and his chief scout Ian Bloomfield watched him at the weekend. He has gone to the top of his wish list because West Ham will not part with Scott Parker and Stephen Ireland chose Aston Villa ahead of them.

Moyes wanted to keep Pienaar, but he will consider trading him for the right fee in this window as he would be a free next summer - and virtually worthless in January.

The Goodison boss is desperate for a new striker as Louis Saha has failed to fire, Yakubu is still on West Ham’s list and new boy Jermaine Beckford is being asked to be the number one after joining on a free from Leeds.

Moyes is a big admirer of Crouch and thinks he would bring a new dimension to his side. The fact that he played for Liverpool does not put him off.

Crouch is aware of Everton’s interest and has his doubts about the move. However he also knows that Redknapp could be leaving him out of the Spurs team when he has his other strikers fit.

The tall striker’s wages will also be an issue for Everton solve, but he could be paid off by Spurs in his part of the deal to keep him within the Goodison pay structure.

The move is described as ‘close’ by insiders although Redknapp would have to land a striker to make up for Crouch’s absence.

Not really sure how I feel about this if it's true :/

Don't think we really need another striker, and we'd miss Pienaar's pace down the wing with his link up play with Bainsey (Bily is nowhere near ready for the PL, worse signing Moyes has made in recent times imo, he's actually shocking most of the time), we need a pacey right winger more than anything :/ Having said that if Stevie won't sign a new contract (and one has been on the table for MONTHS now) I'd rather he went in return for us getting a proven goal scorer like Crouchy than having him go for **** all when his contract ends next year. Hmmmmm.

Er, no.

Burke - one off the best attackers in the Championship, he was injury prone at Rangers but fine ever since he came here, you couldn't afford to hang onto him

Rossco - 21 goals in the Championship 2008/09 season, yeee he's so shyte ain't he

Rae - not even in our first team

Naylor - only played once for us and looked good although lacking in match fitness

McNaughton - WTF. If you think he's crap then go get your eyes tested. He's the best full back outside of the Prem, hence his Scotland call up

Quinn - not in first team

Marshall - one of the best keepers in the league, and saved a Ronaldinho penalty... yeaa he's sucha reject.

Meanwhile any of those muppets at McBoro and anyone else could score that many goals in the SPL due to league 2 standard defences, and there's only two teams in there that compete for the title and they'd struggle in the Championship

Marshall like i said was shafted out the celtic team... i am sure a unibond league player could save a ronaldinho penalty if look was with him on the day.. doesn't mean anything at all, you dive the right way and you save it. simple as that

The reason why Boyd scored so many in the SPL is because he had a great midfield and a great attacking partner kenny miller assisting him all the time, Rangers would win the championship with over 100 points and near enough have a 100% home record whilst they were at it, UEFA CUP finalist just over 2 years ago and you think they would struggle in the Championship, Chels you make me laugh

Just back from our game tonight, great 5-1 win to get our season underway properly now (I hope!)

Coleman was IMMENSE tonight, surely Moysey has to think about him starting PL games in the near future, he's a star. Feli was fantastic, Rodwell was great, Beckford got his first goal (a penalty but beautifully taken) and we just looked great all night apart from a couple of iffy moments defensively. Poor Johnny missing his penalty lol the whole of Gwladys was chanting his name haha, he'll be on the score sheet soon though I think. Distin has played great the last couple of games, think he's defo earnt that spot ahead of Yobo. Saha came on to score with his first touch of the ball after being set up nicely by Becks. No Cahill or Arteta tonight, or Howard (Mucha did great in goal with the few shots that came his way), the young lads did us proud :)

Arsenal Complete Squillaci Signing - OFFICIAL

Sevilla accepted an offer for Squillaci, 30, last week and the player has now completed a medical and signed with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger said in his press conference on Thursday: "We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - he was all of that.

"He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well. I believe he will be suited to the English game.

"He will train with us tomorrow morning, but will not be involved on Saturday."

Squillaci, who has previously played for Toulon, Monaco and Lyon, will be eligible for the Champions League after asking to sit out Sevilla's match against Braga last week.

"I made a bid on the day Sevilla played in the Champions League, so he did not play as he was waiting for the transfer," Wenger added.

Arsenal had been expected to bolster the squad with a new goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window, with the club having made two bids for Fulham's Mark Schwarzer. However, while Wenger was not ruling out the possibility of a new 'keeper arriving, he said there is no progress for the time being.

"We are where we are - we have four great 'keepers and it is important we give confidence to them for the next game," Wenger said. "I do not rule it out, but at the moment I say I am not in a position to sign anybody. At the moment, it is all dead."

Lille duo Eden Hazard and Mickael Landreau are in the sights of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

French sources say Wenger is ready to commit €22 million to land both players before the summer market closes.

Belgian winger Hazard has been a long-term target for Wenger and has expressed an ambition of playing for the Gunners.

France international goalkeeper Landreau would arrive at Arsenal as Wenger's new No1, with doubts persisting over Spaniard Manuel Almunia.

HAZARD is nothing short of amazing.

Wenger Payed more than any other manager bar Anchelloti.

Wenger now top earner.

Manager Arsene Wenger is now the second-highest paid Premier League boss, according to Mirrorfootball.co.uk. The Gunners gaffer's new three-year contract reportedly saw him earn a 20% pay rise, meaning he has surpassed Cesc Fabregas as the club's highest paid employee. The deal equates to around £6m per year, or £115,000 each week - some £5,000 more than the Spaniard. Wenger also now reportedly earns more than top-of-the-table rivals Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini, despite Arsenal themselves not possessing quite the financial luxury afforded to their league table neighbours.

Ben Arfa £12m offer.

French TV broadcaster TF1 have claimed that Arsenal are set to launch a £12m bid for long-term target Hatem Ben Arfa. Wenger was first linked with the Marseille midfielder some three years ago, while the youngster was at Lyon - and it is thought he could finally be close to landing his man. Marseille Sporting Director Jose Anigo has confirmed that "Ben Arfa has the choice between two or three clubs, but we also have to find an agreement with the club which is not the case so far." The France star has also been linked with Newcastle and Liverpool in recent weeks.

Well you should see the kid now, he ripped Chelsea apart in the FA Cup 4th round last season.

We're not and it has nothing to do with Bellamy, it's just this season we have a great squad capable of winning the league and we got unlucky last year. Look at the squad ffs - Bothroyd, Chopra, Keogh, Bellamy, Burke, Whittingham, Olofinjana, Drinkwater, McNaughton, Matthews, Blake... it's got quality oozing everywhere. If this team can't win us the league then there's something wrong, we're favourites for promotion, and one of the favourites to win the league.

Have a feeling we will get knocked out the Europa tonight. Only have a one goal lead, are going into some dirty disgusting city, and are missing Gerrard, Torres, Agger, Maxi and Mascherano.

I'm guessing our starting 11 will be:

Reina

Johnson - Carragher - Kyriagkos/Skrtel - Aurelio

Kuyt - Poulsen - Lucas - Babel

Cole

Ngog

Actually feel a bit bad for Villa tonight, should have won that game with the amount of chances they had. Knocked out by RV again...ouch! Didn't play badly really and were dominating the game for the most part. Missed too many chances is all. Had to laugh at Heskey missing a sitter then scoring and not even knowing much about it :p

On a selfish note though lol I hope this means their heads will be down going into our game against them on Sunday ;)

Typical ****ty celtic lol!

Bad for villa :(

Thought they had gone through.

I find it funny, that sky sports saying how liverpool lacked that killer instinct or something..

What do they expect, no gerrard, no torres, no jovanovic no maxi..
Sky sports have it down as glen johnson playing left back, kelly playing right back and aurellio playing right midfield? lol.

They gotta have that wrong, johnson right midfield surely.

Locke.
26-08-2010, 10:06 PM
Think Kelly played right back, Johnson left back, and Aurelio left mid. Didn't watch the game though, just guessing

30stone
26-08-2010, 10:12 PM
Thats terrible.

Aurellio plays left back?

Glen johnson is an advanced right back, who could easily be a right midfielder..

according to sky kuyt played left mid..

Anyway.

i cant see what sky expected.

2 best players out.. who are massive difference makers.
Jovanovic who is a first teamer..

I cannot see why they would expect a top quality liverpool without.

If we went up definately, we'd sing Olofinjana as well because he's quality and what we've been missing in midfield for years. Keeps the pressure off the defence and he's excellent at holding the ball up and playing it up top for Jay to collect. Drinkwater is amazing too and he's improving every game, I'd say he was MOM yesterday along with Hudson who won absolutely everything in the air :) I'd love to sign Drinky but Utd will never let him go, you got a good one there.
